HELP. new version of itunes made my music skip
I down loaded itunes 7 and now all my music skips/jumps. Any help PLEASE.

For your reference I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Several weeks ago on a Monday I received an upgrade for iTunes. When Tuesday arrived I attempted to log in so that I could download the latest freebie song(s). I was met w/this message: “The file ‘iTunes Library.itl’ cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”
The music/video files are still on my Mac (I’ve verified that via Searchlight), but I’m unable to open the program. Since I know that 10.5.8 is rapidly becoming prehistoric, could it be that the newest iTunes isn’t compatible w/this particular OS? I’d like to switch up, but understand that the newest OS won’t work on a Mac of this vintage (6 years old). In addition, my Adobe products (all CS2) won’t work w/anything newer than 10.5.8, so I’m reluctant to go to a newer OS (I just can’t afford the Adobe upgrade $$$ @ this point).
Is there any way to get a download of an “old” iTunes version? If there were, I’d simply refuse any future upgrades until my personal economy allows me to stop working as if it were 2006. At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it. However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible. iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer. So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message. One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version. Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers. The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

Please Help New version of Itunes 6.4 don't open.
Hi , today I decided to download quicktime with the new version of apple itunes on apple.com and since I downloaded that and upgraded my itunes is not opening anymore on my desktop.
There are absolutely no error messages it just don't open the program does not load.
I have tried reinstalling , deleting quicktime and redownloading another version of itunes and it still don't open. I never had troubles like that.
I am on Windows XP.
Any ideas ?

Windows XPjust checking something...does Quicktime open? Double check to make sure it is there, because iTunes cannot open without Quicktime. If not, DL a standalone version of Quicktime:

Also, what antivirus and spyware programs do you run on your Box? Some of them interfere with iTunes and Quicktime and cause it not to download properly. Post back and we will get it up and going.

Does updating new version of itunes mess up music in my existing version?
I keep getting the option to download the new i tunes. Will this affect my existing library,etc?
Upgrading will normally not affect the tracks and settings already in your iTunes.
That said, it's wise to make a backup of any tracks that you've purchased from the iTunes Music Store or that would otherwise be difficult to replace and of your playlists before you upgrade, just in case something would happen to go wrong. -
Can anyone help with this? I am on my second ipod. First one was generation 3 and this of course is gen. 7.

I had to uninstall iTunes because when I connected my ipod and was in that file and clicked on music to add songs that file was empty. Once I downloaded iTunes again a box appeared that said The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes..............so then I unistalled iTunes and downloaded again 4 different times and got the same message each time. I am using a laptop Windows Vista 64 bit system...please help

Downloaded new version of itunes, and then subsequently performed a sync on my ipod nano as I had purchased a new song from itunes store. I now only have 25 songs on my ipod as it removed all of my other music. My music is stored on an external drive. I downloaded the music there from cd's that I own. Can anyone help me fix this. I am going on holidays soon and want to have my ipod loaded with music for the trip. Thanks

First of all, your music is not gone. Its there, I promise. Second of all, you need to always make sure you backup your music elsewhere because funky things happen and computers do take nosedives.
Ok, go into File on the iTunes Task bar and click on add folder to library. Your music files should be under my documents>my music. Let me know how it goes...

So ever since I downloaded the new version of iTunes, I have no idea how to add music to my iPod. On the last version, their was a box next to the iTunes Store box that said "_______'s iPod". Because I just used to drag my music to the box and add it through there, I have no idea where I would "drag" my music file now to add it. Simply, I just need to know how to add music to my iPod again in the most recent version of iTunes on my computer (11.1.5).
Cntrl + S will enable the side bar.
Then you can manually manage media on your iDevice as you always have.
Alternatively, control the content on the device by syncing the playlists and other media that you desire to the device. -

I have had my account for a long time.Do you currently have a credit card set up in your iTunes store Enter Payment Information screen?
If so, grab a recent statement for that card and check to make sure that the address that shows up in your Enter Payment Information screenexactly matches the address showing on your credit card statement. For example, if your address in the credit card statement says "Street", the iTunes screen has to also say "Street" (Not St or Str.) Also match the capitalisation of the address on your statement. (If it says STREET in the statement make it say STREET in the iTunes screen, not Street or street.)
Also make sure that your name in the iTunes screen exactly matches the one in your statement. (Say, if you've got a middle initial in the credit card statement name, you need one in the iTunes screen.)
After doing that, does that get you past the invalid address thing?

My "newer version" of itunes will not open. How can I either get it to open or get the older version which worked fine?
Restore the backup before you installed.
If you didn't make a backup, at very minimum make sure your Music library isn't compromised by locating the folder you selected the music to be in (usually in Users -> yourname -> Music) and make sure there are several MB of data there by clicking once on the folder, and selecting Get Info from the File menu in the Finder.
If you can't find it, try to locate parts of track names with Find Any File.

then determine which parent file of the .mp3 or .mpa files you have contains all of the music files by getting info under each previous folder in the folder tree.
Once you determine which folder contains all your music, back it up using the Finder, or backup the entire hard drive using cloning software at least to two different drives or two complete copies on DVDs:

You'll then want to erase and install 10.6 from the system installer you used to put 10.6 on your Mac, and run the combo 10.6.8 updater and apply the necessary security updates:

Hi--I can't get itunes to open because it says "the file cannot be opened because it was created by a newer version of itunes." I have installed newest versions of Windows & itunes recently, as the troubleshooter instructed, to no avail...Help!!!
This error prevents iTunes from launching. The library file was modified to work with the newer iTunes version, so it is no longer compatible with the previous version. The good news, however, is that Apple does backup the iTunes library file into a subdirectory that you can use to revert back to the previous version.
To recover a previous version of the iTunes Library.itl file, use the following steps:
Open up your My Documents\My Music folder.
We will first backup the current version. Rename iTunes Library.itl to something like iTunes Library.itl.bak.
Go into the My Documents\My Music\Previous iTunes Libraries folder.
You may see several files that start with iTunes Library and have a date included in the name. Copy the newest file in the folder.
Go back to the My Documents\My Music and paste the file from the previous step.
Rename the new copied file to iTunes Library.itl.
Your library should now be restored to the previous version of iTunes, and you should no longer receive the message. -
After updating my iTunes it no longer acknowledges that my iPod or iPhone is connected so I can't update my music.. I have followed all of these steps and everything is working fine but this new version of iTunes isn't recognizing my devices. Any advice?
I have the same problem. Running Win 8 64Bit, updated to latest ITunes and now will not recognize phone or pad. Followed all advice from Apple (uninstall/restart/re-install, all in exact order) ... nothing. Spoke with Apple tech and walked through the whole process, but no resolution. Tech was trying to be helpful but has no way of addressing issue.

New version of iTunes stutters/trips out while my music is playing.
A few days ago I downloaded the new version of iTunes and later on I figured out it was a recipe for disaster, almost every song I have in my library stutters or does some thing that distorts the audio during its playback. After all that tom foolery I decided it was time to fix this issue, I tried every ******* logical approach to fixing it, I tried doing stunts on my motorcycles, I tried returning over due library books, I tried participating in my schools talent show, I tried singing some karaoke; in hopes of finally fixing the break in the space-time continuum. Sadly my award winning solutions were futile so Im very upset to say I wont be using iTunes for quite some time. Atleast not until i can hear my music without any stutters in it. So if someone at apple/itunes is reading this: please look into this.
