Help! Newbie needs a bit of advice :)

Trying to put up a website in tables & cells....can't
seem to get answers to a couple of Q's.
Any experts out there that could offer insight would be much
appreciated!
Here's the sitch :
Down the left side of my page is a list of services, I want a
mouseover action on each of these services to cause the HTML text
to the right of the services list to change to an explanation of
that service, and to change the picture to the right of that text
(in yet another cell) to a picture of that service. So one
mouseover will cause both of the two neighboring table cells to
change their content. THE TEXT IS IN HTML and cannot be an image
for SEO purposes.
The second question regards a different page. I have text
that is too big for its table cell. I was wondering how to put a
scroll bar in a table cell.
If anyone knows the answer or can point me in the right
direction it would be so helpful!!

Your going to have to use some kind of layer/s for that.
Use 'settextofLayer' under the 'behaviours' in Dreamweaver.

Need a bit of advice regarding sync

Hi all,
Just looking for a wee bit of advice. I've got my son an ipod touch 4 for Christmas and was wonder how to set up itunes for him. He's only 7 and so I was going to add him to my itunes account so I can add something like a fiver a month for him to use for apps/games on it or something like that. However, I don't want it to synch to my iphone. Is there a way to stop that or should I set him up an email and set up a new account for him?

In itunes you can set up allowances, for the article about them: type HT2105 in the search bar on this website when support is clicked and you should get the article to pop up on how to set up allowances.

HELP: Newbie needs advice regarding Photo Editing Software

I'm brand new to Apple therefor I'm brand new to its' software... I am looking for a thorough Photo Editing Suite that isn't going to cost me $600. Is Adobe Photoshop my only choice? Aperature seems a bit to "high-end" for what I want to do. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You do not specify your image editing needs. Pro shooting DSLR RAW? Occasional point-and-shoot digicam JPEG photos? Other?
Point-and-shoot folks may suffice with iPhoto.
If you are a professional DSLR Photographer you do need Aperture for RAW image management and organization; and you also need a separate image editing application because Aperture's image editing is quite limited.
If you are a professional DSLR Photographer needing to edit images Adobe Photoshop Elements ("PSE") is IMO the application that you are looking for. It is reasonably priced and provides most of the utility that a photographer (as opposed to a graphic designer) needs from an image editing program.
There are many other image editing apps, even some free ones, but unless you are totally broke they are IMO a bad idea. You are much, much better off with a well established professionally supported application like PSE. And you will be working in a workflow similar to the full $700 Photoshop app, which is the right direction to be going in.
As you become familiar with PSE you will be able to immensely benefit from the discussions on the Adobe PS, Photography and PSE Forums such as at <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.ee6b362> and <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.3bb41392>.
Every so often Adobe offers PSE owners special deals on upgrading to full PS, so be sure to register PS Elements with Adobe. Hardware vendors sometimes offer PSE as a bundle with their hardware, so if you need a scanner you might get a free copy (e.g. with the excellent new Epson V700 scanner).

Need a bit of advice before I update to Win7, or perhaps throw my laptop through a wall

I've got a month-old G60, and Vista just crashed (blue screen on any non-safe-mode boot-up) and I was wondering if I will be able to install windows 7 to a computer in this state. The reason I ask is that I don't want to have to take it into a repair-shop, considering that windows 7 ships on wednesday and I might be able to solve the problem with a new OS. Just so you know, I tried system restore at various restore points to no avail, and I have no recovery discs because the disc creation program would not work before this happened--and, again, I would rather not have to purchase new discs when a new OS would fix it.
Any reply would be repaid a hunderdfold in warm fuzzy karma, I`m sure.

Have you tried pressing F10 for the System Recovery at the very beginning of the startup. That should take you to the option to reformat your computer to the way you bought it and you might loose your files.
Either way it might erase your files if you do the upgrade because it will bring everything from vista to 7 and the error might do or disrupt something. So the best way is to reformat the computer and then do the upgrade or do a Custom install and that should put all the files in windows.old and you can grab what you want from there and when you did you can delete that folder as it takes too much space if there is nothing you need. But you will need to install all the programs from there and in the folder swsetup, the programs that came with HP should be there.

Hello, we recently got a blackberry curve 8330, carrier verizon. My husband must be able to get to his work web site which apparently requires that our browser support "iframe html tag". We have upgraded as to what verizon supports which is v4.3.0.127 (platform 3.1.0.72). Verizon tech support said that their are other OS available for blackberry that they do not support (although they did not tell me where/who/what). They said we could purchase/download them and then we would just have to receive tech support from that company rather than verizon.
By the way, we already have the boxes checked under browser options: support javascript, allow javascript popups, support html tables, and show images on wml & html pages.
Does anyone know what these OS are, where to find them, etc? Does blackberry have a version we could purchase/download?

I have Verizon as well, I have read that OS 4.5 (latest for 8330 Curve) will be out in August.
While this is not a recommendation to upgrade to an unsupported OS, if you need it you can follow the link below.

Newbie needing a bit of direction

Hello,
Hoping someone can tell me what I should download to get
started in my Flex evaluation. I have a java/jsp web app running in
Tomcat on a Windows platform. It accesses a MySQL database. It also
generates charts. I use Eclipse IDE. I want to create the same web
app in Flex with all the same technologies behind the Flex app,
i.e., Eclipse IDE, Tomcat web server, MySQL database on Windows.
Question is, "Is this possible?". If so what do I need to
download from this Adobe site to get going?

Yeah, from what I've been reading, Flex has the ability to
access all manner of server-side objects, and has very good support
for interfacing with Java. I'd recommend getting the Flex Builder
plugin for Eclipse--it installed very smoothly with my Eclipse
installation.
You pretty much just need Flex Builder to get started. Of
course, you don't have to use it.

Need a bit of advice....

Long and short i just got a new HP and i knew for gaming i was gonna need to bump up the video card for my gamin experience. FYI, its the HP modle number A4317C. Amd Athalon 2.7GHz, 4 gig ram, and i think 500g HD, anyway. i am looking at 2 cards at bestbuy.com. both are nvidea, and i should be able to use them both, please tell me if i am wrong. here are the cards:

i am battleing the numbers in my head as to how much i really wanna spend. but my BIGGER question is just to make sure these will work, and if not i am open to suggestons. Also, does going to an HDMI cable make a big difference in the gameing clarity? i would think so, but if not then i am not gonna spend the $$ to buy the HDMI cable...

Well, lemme make sure I am clear on the difference between DVI and hdmi.... The video card has the old school VGA plug, a flat hdmi plug, and a goofy sideways pinned lookin plug( looks like the VGA but with an extra flat/sideways pin), However... My monitor only has a VGA plug and a flat hdmi plug, so should I get a dvi to hdmi adaptor or should I buy a hdmi cable?? Or just scratch both and stay with the VGA cable..... Now we are still back to the 2 video cards.... Do I dump the $160 or do I go cheap and get the card for $110.... I guess what I am lookin for is someone to tell me that the $160 card is the way to go cause it's a wicked sweeet vid card....

Need a bit of advice please

I have a couple of swf that I use on my iweb site. Can someone explain to me if there is a significant advantage to using the swf file directly or to use an html file that accesses the swf.
The html is of course lighter but it still has to make the swf work, so, do I save load time?
I am not understanding the function of the html generated when I publish the flash file.

In my samples I use the iframe/object element to display a HTML page within iWeb. You can also use the object/embed code to display the flash file in the HTML Snippet
The html filesize is only a few hundred bytes. But it depends on the flash file whether it's better to use a HTML page or the object code with the flash file.
Sometimes there's a problem with the relative path to the flashvars when using object in the HTML Snippet. Then a HTML page is better.
Also, when you make changes to the object or HTML code in the HTML page, you do not have to update the HTML snippet in iWeb.

Building out dynamic app, need a bit of advice

Hello all !
I have been working on a flex app, that makes users sign in. This is done by checking their username and password against those defined in a mysql database. A field in this database is "ID" which is a unique, a primary key, to that user.
THe app should then display data only relating to that person.
At the moment i have the app working fine, if in my scripts i define an "ID" number to look for.
I will try to explain some more . .
I am using AMFPHP to popular datagrids with data taken from the same mysql database that was used to log in. These scripts being used, pull back data only relating to a certain "ID" at the moment this is built into the script.
I want to have it so when the user logs in, flex takes their ID number and then pushes that to all other relevant scripts that are loading data. SO then when a user logs in, only their data is shown. As all data in the database is linked to an ID.
For instance:
If i had the following users table - used to log in

And then the following data table - used to display data

Is it possible to have it so, you log in, using a php script, and then your ID is returned, then fed into some AMFPHP scripts, which will be used to determine which strings you can see?
So that Bob can see String 1 2 and 5 while Carl can see 3 4 and 6

The work of filtering the data for the particular user should be done by PHP/MySQL or whatever other server-side solution you may be using. It's best to have your have your Flex app be ignorant of details such as this. On the Flex end, keep it simple by assuming that the data provided is correct and go straight to plugging it in (of course with some exception handling).
You probably don't want to be passing that user id around in the open. Make use of PHP sessions.

Im probably going to purchase the iMac Intel Core Duo 2GHz, but Ive recently heard about a Mac Pro.
What is this, when will it be released (I heard its yet to be released) and will it be superior to a MacBook pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo (In terms of playing Battlefield 2) ?

I just purchased a new iMac Core Duo. Speaking about current Apple products I can tell you I feel I made a mistake.
I am reminded of what an old Navy Master Chief once told me. "Ensign, never fly the 'A' model of any airplane." The same thing applies to computers.
In my experience this machine does not have all the bugs worked out. I am very disappointed in its performance, most of which seem to be hardware/quality control related.
Apple phone tech support is its usual high quality, and I certainly have no complaints about their efforts, but they have been unable to resolve my problems, and there are similar unanswered problems posted on the Core Duo Discussions.
If you have a Mac that is getting the job done for you, I would wait until they work the bugs out of this one. For a list of all the problems folks are having with the new Core Duos check that discussion board.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Help I need to locate a driver for my soundblaster live 24 bit soundcard

My son has been given the following PC games for christmas:-
Command & Conquer 3,
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3,
Arma; Armed Assault,
Medal of Honour: Airborne
The problem he is having installing these 4 games is this. About half way through installation an error message appears that quite simply states "The software you are installing does not bear a WHQL signed driver. This software will not be installed".
The PC we are running is a Dell Dimension 900, that we purchased about 4 years ago, and it was bespoke.
I have run DxDiagnostics and it tells me that the driver for the graphics card is called p7.sys and the sound card are not WHQL logo'd, so how the hell do i download a driver for my soundblaster Li've 24 bit, that does? bear a digital signatre that is WHQL Logo'd. I hope you can help, me please.

Well, what you can do is now is ignoring the WQHL pop-up window and choose the "install anyway" option during the installation of the soundcard driver, since WQHL only means the driver is tested by Microsoft and nothing more; drivers without the WQHL qualification does not mean they are bad drivers, they usually works as good as the WQHL ones.
Ofcourse you can also download the official drivers for the mentioned Soundblaster li've 24bit at Creative Labs support/download site.

The driver is for all Soundblaster Audigy Value, SE, LS and Soundblaster Li've 24bit, since they are all based on the CA-006 soundchip (with other words Creative Labs renamed the soundcard several times). Also this driver should be WQHL-ed (if not, choose "install anyway" option during installation of the soundcard driver). Make sure you have uninstalled the older driver before installing the new one. For troubleshooting use utilies like "Driver Cleaner" or "Driver Sweeper" (google for Guru3D and go to the site and their download section to get the utilities/tools) to clean up the junk files of the older driver that are left in the Windows OS.

Bear with me please. I read tons of articles on this but somehow as a newbie to MAC (girlfriends sick daughter), I am missing something. 10.5.2
Currently, she can print directly if we plug in the HP Deskjet printer directly via USB to the MACBook. No problem.
When we first got the MACBOOK I tried setting up the MACBOOK wirelessly to recognize the workgroup where the printer was attached via USB to the Windows XP PC. However it printed out garbage since I did not know there was a difference between XP printing and MAC (Gutenberg/gimp printing/drivers).
Now I know there is a difference.
But in reading various instructions, I no longer can find how to connect the MAC to the Windows workgroup. Note we do have a printer set up currently as USB-HP Deskjet on the Macbook (not sure I need to delete it yet).
I went to System Preferences on MACBOOK and clicked on printers, more printers. In the drop down box was CANON, APPLETALK, IP HP printing and Firewire. There was no WINDOWS selection as I saw in other online web instructions.
So not sure how to proceed to find a way to:
1. Connect to Windows workgroup (click on what exactly), step by step please!!
2. Add correct HP Deskjet 5490 printer (perhaps there is one with Gutenberg or perhaps I need Gutenprint-really not sure what I am talking about)

Any chance of posting the Protocol you used to connect to your printer with your laptop? I'm have the exact same problem printing from my MB. Same error message "..is busy".

A bit of advice? Java3D and JMF

I am looking for a bit of advice. I am developing an art project here at Portsmouth University and it is based on the user driving through a �D environment using a joystick. WHen they hit an object in the Java3D space then I want to play the piece of video associated with that object. When the viedoe ends I want the 3D space to come back and carry on and so on and so on.
At the moment I ahve the 3D part working but I am having trouble working out how to open and close borderless windows to play the viedo in - the aim is that bothe parts will operate in fullscreen form.
Any advice or help would be most grateful,

Stick to microsoft office. The macbook comes with a free 14 day (almost positive that it's that long) for both Office and iWork. No one can beat Microsoft Office because everyone already uses it and Office on the mac works seamlessly with pc's when transfering files. Also, with the purchase of office, you get 3 licences so you would be able to split the cost of it with 3 people/3 different computers. I have been using Macs for years and Microsoft Office works very well on the mac and you would easily be able to work with your students without worrying about compatibility problems.
I am sure Apple's iWork is great (obviously keynote is excellent) but depending on what you wish to do, Office might just be the easier solution.
If you look at the reviews of iWork you will notice many people love it, mostly for Keynote, and say that Pages needs work.
