Help Newbie With Company Website Idea

Hi Everyone,
I'm totally going to embarrass myself with my lack of actionscript knowledge... but, I hope someone can at least point me in the right direction.
Here's what I'm attempting to do:
I'm designing a flash site that has 5 buttons, each corresponding to a different company. When a button is pressed, the logo for that company will appear in the body of the site along with a brief company description. So far, that's all very easy I know. But, here's where it gets complicated (at least, for me):
I've set up shape tweens (25 to be exact) so that every logo can "tween" into any of the other logos. The goal is to have it so that when you click on one of the company's buttons, the logo will shape tween from the current logo displayed to the logo for the company button you clicked. Make sense? I hope so.
When a button is pressed, the script basically needs to find out what logo is currently displayed, so that it can know what shape tween movieclip to play.
I've set up all the tweens on the timeline with Frame Labels: logo1ToLogo2, Logo1ToLogo3 and so forth. And then Logo2ToLogo1, Logo2ToLogo3 and so forth...
Can somebody get me started? It would be very much appreciated!

I really don't want to repeat myself, so you'll need to reread what I offered earlier, but I'll give an example this time to add to it. I don't know why you need 5 for each as it doesn't make sense to tween the same logo into itself but having it will be supported by the example. In any case, each tween that you create you will assign a frame label to the beginning of that indicates which transition is involves. For the example below, the frame label will be "logo1ToLogo2"...
So let's say Logo1 is initially displayed. The variable I mentioned earlier is already assigned a value = "logo1" at the start. So you click the button for Logo2, which you assign an instance name of "btn2", and it has the following code assigned to it on the timeline (not on the button)...

     disable_enable_btns();
     gotoAndPlay(currentLogo+"ToLogo2");
     currentLogo = "logo2";
Each button will have the same code except number (2 in this example) will change to agree with the button.
The disable_enable_btns function is used to prevent people from using the buttons during a transition...

So you call that function in the button code, and you also call it in the last frame of each transition so that when a transition is done, the buttons are once again enabled.

Looking for some helpful advice for a website idea I have

For the past year, my company has had a contract for a tech device manufacturer to maintain a project benchmarking the prices, specs, user features, etc. of their products against their major competitiors. It is quite an in-depth comparison and contains more than 100 products. It is up to date with new product releases and will continue to remain current on the newest products. Anyway, the contract is almost up and I am thinking that the project could be more lucrative if I created a website with all the information I have gathered over the past year. My problem is that I have never created a website for profit. I have created a personal website and my company's website using a combination of CS5 DW, FW, and Flash. I know some html, php, mySQL, and flash, and am fairly comfortable with the CS5 software in general.
Like I mentioned, I am new to trying to make money off a website, but here are two potential ways I have though of to to do so:
1. Just throw all the information on the websites and offer access to all users for free and hope to gain advertising revenue from the manufacturers who have their products on my site.
or
2. Offer a sample of basic info on all of the products, but require a subscription for full access (maybe $199/year).
My target market will consist of the manufacturers themselves, IT professionals, and resellers of these products.
Im also wondering if I should make it Flash-based and very visually appealing or just in html.
I guess i'm just looking for an opinion on which path to choose and any advice in making this effort successful.

I'd make sure to read the contract and any associated fine print really, really carefully before doing this. But back to your question - this is more of a marketing question and I'd suggest hiring a good marketer (or become one) to make the most of this opportunity.
And how do you find a good marketer?
I'd suggest using Seth Godin (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/) as your guide/model. If the person you want to hire knows and follows Seth's good marketing advice, you'll likely do very well. If they don't know who Seth Godin is and are obsessed with SEO rankings and email blasts, I'd be very worried (that's not to say SEO rankings and email blasts are "wrong" but that they shouldn't be the only options in your marketing approach).

Iphoto has stopped working.Help me with any possible ideas please..

I have a 9.1.3 version of iphoto'11 on macbook pro with Mac OS X 10.6.6. I can get the application to open but it does not upload and keeps showing the circular 'in process' sign on the iphoto page continuously. Please

You might consider updating the app and your OS. The latest version of 10.6 is 10.6.8 and the latest version of iPhoto that will run on that is 9.2.3
Other than that:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Help (Newbie) with simple business setup

Hi all,
New to the community and this is my first post.
We have a small business and have been running the Business Manager for sometime now with approx 8 staff in a single office running skype on thier pc's with headsets, Skype numbers, voicemail etc.
The office is very IT friendly (lots of cat5 ports etc, a very solid 4-5mb down and up wireless internet connection - a line of sight wireless, we're in the country, but up on a hill so the service great).
I want to move this on to desktop phones without the need for the PC's and ideally the ability for our receptionist to receive both Skype and landline calls and transfer these calls within the office using suitable hardware.
Can someone point me in the right direction in terms of any other services I may need to purchase from Skype and necessary / recommended hardware.

Help me with Timecapsule any ideas will suffice

I recently bought a 1Tb time capsule and connected it and made it my primary wireless router. I backed up my macbook pro and downloaded a 138 Gb to it. now I have an older G5 that has OsX version 10.4.5 something like that. Along with the G5 i have two 250 Gb external USB hard drives. I for the life of me cant figure out how to:
A) connect my G5 to my time capsule
B) back up my two external hard drives and
C) use my timecapsule as a media drive.
There are not a lot of topics on the internet that cover time capsule. Maby im just looking in the wrong places.

A) Upgrade to 10.5 to have Time Machine on the G5.
B) With Time Machine on the G5 you can designate its external drives to be included in the Time Machine backup.
C) You can define the TC as a shared drive on your network and put your media on it. Decent security for this. Two issues: A) This will consume space that your TM backups could use and B) what will be your backup plan for the media on the TC drive?

HELP! with my Website I am having real problems it does not show on safari!

Well my problem is that when i press publish everything works UNTIL i go on visit. Here the disaster starts and so Safari gives me the message that it cannot open this website...
It is not an Internet problem OR that my .mac account does not have the full version or something.
secondarily what might be the problem that i made a .mac domain and have the usual http://web.mac.com/de/(Acc) what should I do I am desperate for support!

HELP Newbie with mac and iphoto

Hey experts - I loaded some photos into iphoto and then made a slideshow with music - how do I get the slideshow with the music into my iweb site? Specifically I want it on a particular page but I have come this far and don't know what to do next. Thanks

Well now you have to export the Slideshow as a Quick time movie, and add that to your iWeb page. How to do? Select the Slideshow in the Source (or Left Hand) pane and go File -> Export. Then complete the export `(after deciding size etc.) and you can then bring that movie to your iWeb site.

Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
It all really depends on your demographic audience.
Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.

Lord K. Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it. It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me. My messages were in folders for a lawsuit. It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea. We are talking thousands of pages! I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried. I need Help with a website I've created

I need help with a website I've created (www.jonathanhazelwood.com/lighthouse) I created the folowing site with dreamweaver at my current resolution 1366 by 768. Looks great on my screen resolution but if it is viewed on other resolutions the menu moves and some of the text above and below. How can I keep all content centered and working like it does on 1366 by 768 on all resolutions. The htm to my site is below I started off with a blank template through dreamweaver CS5.

Look at all the apdiv's you have. Those are absolutely positioned layers. I'm assuming by your post that you are very new to Dreamweaver and HTML and CSS. I would highly recommend not using absolutely positioned layers until you have a better grasp on HTML and CSS.
Looking at your code I would suggest that you consider using one of Dreamweaver's built in, or downloadable templates as a starting point and work from there.

You could try duplicating the Domain.sites2 file and launch this in iWeb. Delete the last page you edited and try saving. If that doesn't work, undo and try deleting another and so on...
If you can find the problem page you would only have to rebuild it rather than the whole site.
The other possibility is to create a new site on the same domain file and drag each page in turn down to it from the top site and try to save each time.
