Help on Data Types

Hi,
I want to compute 200 rasied to the power of 250 and
double would do upto 1.7976931348623157E308.
But i need pretty much more than that. If u can suggest me any data type that holds or any technique with which i can compute such a big number it would really be appreciable.
Thanks
Annapurna

try "BigInteger".

  • Need Help with data type conversion

    Hello People,
    I am new to java, i need some help with data type conversion:
    I have variable(string) storing IP Address
    IPAddr="10.10.103.10"
    I have to call a library function which passes IP Address and does something and returns me a value.
    The problem I have is that external function call in this library excepts IP Address in form of a byte array.
    Here is the syntax for the function I am calling through my program
    int createDevice (byte[] ipAddress).
    now my problem is I don't know how to convert the string  IPAddr variable into a byte[] ipAddress to pass it through method.

    Class InetAddress has a method
    byte[]      getAddress() You can create an instance using the static method getByName() providing the IP address string as argument.

  • Static input help for DATS type

    Hello,
    I'd like to link static input help for screen field of DATS type. If I click on help linked to this screen field I get CONVT_NO_NUMBER error: 'Unable to interpret "=2" as a number.'
    My steps:
    - In Screen Painter I selected desired screen field and selected DATS type and "1 Show at selection" in its details.
    - I defined global variable with same name as desired screen field
    What's the problem?
    Best regards,
    Josef Motl

    Hi,
    do this way.....
    first declare the variable in program as
    1. data: date type sy-datum.
    2. now go to your screen,(click on F6) use get from Program
    now choose date form it , and say ok, now save it and activate it.
    delete the old one..
    now you will be able to get all the things which you want.
    automatical validation also possible, and F4 also possible.

  • Help in data type

    Hi,
    I have a table and one of the column is of varchar2(4000). When input data are submitted by the user from the UI then the input data are getting inserted into the table and based on the input we are fetching the data and collecting the data and send it through mail to the user.
    Issue -> So when its inserting the data more than 4000 then its not showing any request_id to the user due to size of the column.
    How can we avoid this without the use of CLOB data type.
    Note: When we are using the datatype as CLOB then the fetching of data is not happening due to some issue.
    so please help me or any other way can we handle this.

    if the column is defined as varchar2(4000), then your statement " its inserting the data more than 4000"  cannot be true.
    As for the rest of your problem, you seem to be describing a problem that exists with your un-named and un-described method of "fetching the data and collecting the data and send it through mail to the user."

  • Help in Data types behavior

    HI All
    I have some data types that i dont know what are the behavior of them
    I need to know that for all the following data types
    Data types such as
    byte -  Unsigned 8-bit integer value
    guid - a 16-byte (128-bit) unique identifier value
    SByte -  a signed 8-bit integer value
    Int16     a  - signed 16-bit integer value
    Int32     a -  signed 32-bit integer value
    Int64     a -  signed 64-bit integer value
    Single - a floating point number with 7 digits precision
    I want to know if user want to create such of data types
    does he need to specify a length and decimal for example .
    for instance to string data type user dont need to specify anything
    but for char ne need to specify a length ,etc .
    I search for this data type in the help
    and i found this following links but it's help for this data types  .

    [These predefined types|http://help.sap.com/abapdocu_70/en/ABENBUILT_IN_TYPES_DICTIONARY.htm] are only ones available and can only be used when typing data element in DDIC , but not directly in ABAP program.
    Moreover what do you need such huge memory allocation for (i.e int64) ? I can't even imagine what max value would that be.
    If you want to create dynamically certain data type (local to program) use cl_abap_elemdescr=>get_YYY where YYY stands for data type you want the data object be typed with.

  • Need Help in Data Type

    Hi :
    I am developing a applicaition in apex i have a reqirement like this i have created a check box, Check box will normally have check and uncheck values which is like 0 and 1
    now i need to create a table to hold these values if i check it must hold 1 if i uncheck it must hold 0 to the data base
    how to design a table with suitable data type to this please suggest
    Please give me both create table and how to insert into table also
    :p16_check is the check box item
    I tryed like this but this didnt work to me
    Create table Check // Createa table syntax
    Board Number(2)
    Insert into Check (Board) values (:p16_check) // Insert table Syntax
    Thanks
    Sudhir

    This is really an Apex question for the Oracle Application Express (APEX).
    There's nothing wrong with storing 0, 1 in your NUMBER(2) column (a NUMBER(1) would do). In the Apex form you need to define the properties of the checkbox to say what values represent checked and not checked (by default I think it is Y and N, which won't work with your number).

    Best regards,
    Jean-ValentinMore than that, and just so that others reading this don't miss the point ...
    It's not the fact that a telephone "number" MAY include non-numeric characters, it's the fact that it has no numeric properties. Simple test: would you ever conceive of doing any mathematical operations on a telephone number? The answer is a resounding "NO".
    Same thing applies to United States Social Security "Numbers", and U.S. postal zip codes. They are all represented with numeric characters, but have no properties of numbers. It is simply by convention that these codes use exclusively the same characters that are used to represent numbers. The convention could have just as easily specified other characters as well and it would not have changed the nature of the data.
    And it is this very confusion of data type that causes unwanted behavior when importing text files into Excel. If Excel sees a field that contains only numeric characters, it assumes (often incorrectly) that it is a number, and stores it as a number, and makes the column a number. As a result, "numbers" that aren't really numeric get any leading zeros dropped and the data is thus corrupted. Thank you Billl . . .
    I fear that as my generation of programmers moves into retirement, the generation that was brought up on 'point-'n'click' programming will more and more develop poor applications because they lack a fundamental understanding of the nature of data.. Any my future health care and retirement income will be managed by systems developed by such . . .

  • Help needed in data type casting

    I have a java program which will receive data and its type in the String format. During program execution, the data in the String data has to be converted into the respective data type and assigned to a variable of that data type so that it could be used in the program. Programmer may not know the type of data that the value has to be converted into.
    I really got struck up with this. This is a RMI application and one process node is sending the data to another node in the String format and the type of data it should get converted into so that it can be converted into the respective type and used for computation.

  • Dynamic structure of "string" data type. Please help.

    ABAPers,
    I am calling cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table method to dynamically create a structure. The input structure definition is as follows:
    data: xfc type lvc_s_fcat.
    data: ifc type lvc_t_fcat.
    * define Fld1
    clear xfc.
    xfc-fieldname = 'Fld1'.
    xfc-datatype = 'string'.
    append xfc to ifc.
    * define Fld2
    clear xfc.
    xfc-fieldname = 'Fld2'.
    xfc-datatype = 'string'.
    append xfc to ifc.
    Although the call to create_dynamic_table does not throw any exceptions, it appears Fld1 and Fld2 are not of "string" data type. I don't know of a way to see what type they are. However, they do have a length limit of 10 characters.
    After some experimenting, it turns out that the method simply ignores "datatype" value if it doesn't understand it and creates the field with some default data type.
    I would appreciate it if someone can show me how to create fields of "string" data type.
    Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Need help regarding the maximum limit for data type

    Hi,
    this is Sravan. for my application am inserting the bulk data in XML format into a column of Database table.
    the sample inserted XML data will be in format... like
    '<ACC count = "10">
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    <Acc ac_no = "1111111111" cn_nr = "US" eflag = "Y" />
    </ACC>'
    this data in XML can have more than 1000 accounts.
    now, i need to take a Parameter value from XML node and write into a file. for this i have written a procedure by looping the Nodes from XML data and building Dynamic Query like..
    if nvl(v_int, 0) > 0 then
    v_sql := '';
         for v_count in 1..v_int
         loop
         if v_sql is null then
              v_sql := 'select extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count ||'/@ac_no'')||extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count
    ||'/@cn_nr'')||extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count ||'/@eflag'') string from sample1';
         elsif v_sql is not null then
                   v_sql := v_sql || ' union all select extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count ||'/@ac_no'')||extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count
    ||'/@cn_nr'')||extractvalue(empdetails, ''/ACC/Acc' || v_count ||'/@eflag'') string from sample1';
              end if;
         end loop;
    end if;
    i will get this variable "v_int" from <ACC count = "10"> ACC count Attribute, here 10 is the value for v_int variable but in real time the variable value can be more than 1000.
    at the time of Building Dynamic Query I make using the Variable v_SQL which is of Data Type "Long",
    this variable stores dynamic query which is build at the time of executing procedure but this v_sql Variable is throughing Exception that ....
    "numeric or value error Character String Buffer is Too Small"... but Long Data type will store upto 2GB..
    this variable cant able to hold much data which is dynamically build.
    will you please help me to resolve this issue Or will u suggest me another method to pick the data from XML column.
    thanks,
    sravan.

    Hi Friends,
    I have Created a  custom table in which i have created a field is
    ZMATLONG which stores material number.
    Now the data element is zdmat which is of char 40..
    Now i want to give search help for this field ZMATLONG..
    I have tried many ways giving search help to this field
    a) i Tried to attach the standard search help of MATNR ie : MAT1 but its showing me data type inconsistancy
    b) i created a zsearch help and in the selection method i have used database table mara , again here iam getting the same error data type inconsistancy...
    Now how can i give the search help like matnr field to my custom field ZMATLONG...
    How can i do it..?
    Thanks in Advance..
    Regards
    Kumar

    Hi,
    MATNR ahs length 18 and ZMATLONG has length 40.So due to this u cannot use MAT1 search help.
    best way would be cope MAT1 into Z search help. Then in the search help parameter change the data element of field
    MATNR as ZMATLONG.
    Now if you assign Z search help to ZMATLONG  it will work.
    I tried this its working fine.

  • I need help in "HOW TO EXTEND THE DATA TYPE SYSTEM"......

    Hi All,
    I need to add new data type like SDO_GEOMETRY in spatial Oracle.
    I don't mean the User-Defined Datatype but new datatype embed in the database.
    I read the Data Cartridge Developer's Guide but it has info how to use more efficiently UDT through indexes.
    Anybody used the “Type System” under Databases and Extensibility Services?
    It might be written in C++ or Java but I do not know how.
    Any hints and help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    > In Figure 1-1 Oracle Services, there is a "Type System" as Oracle Services.
    The "Type System" is merely a compartmentalising the data type handling and implementation code/modules in Oracle.
    This covers all types. Oracle native types, user defined types (UDTs), etc.
    Saying that you want to create a new type in the "Type System" is basically saying you want to use the CREATE TYPE SQL command in Oracle.
    > So, I want new_type1 and new_type2 behave like other built-in types, just the way
    SDO_GEOMETRY works in Oracle Spatial Cartridge.
    Not familiar with the SDO_GEOMETRY. Why do you mention this type specifically? What do you want to do similar?
    > I have already done it with user-defined types. Now I need to do this way so that I can
    compare and contrast in terms of speed, space...etc for part of my research.
    Hmm.. I'm not sure what you are trying to compare ito of a UDT and Data Cartridge extensions. It is not one or the other. What research is this if I may ask?
    Simplistically you extend the Type System with a new UDT/ADT. And there you have a new type data can be used in the SQL Engine and the PL/SQL engine. The OCI (Oracle Call Interface) supports such types via the OCI object API calls - which means this new type can also be used from Oracle clients written in Delphi, C++, Java, etc.
    That new type can be a complex type. This type may need specific management code (memory management, context management, internationalisation, etc). To support this you can extend the UDT/ADT further by developing Cartridge Basic Service interfaces for the type - designing and writing management code to, for example, support specific internationalisation requirements when dealing with multibyte character sets.
    You can also extend the UDT/ADT to be custom managed ito indexing, determining query optimisation, computing costs of custom methods/functions/operators on this custom data type. These extensions are done by developing Data Cartridge interfaces for the type.
    Thus I cannot see what you are trying to compare. It is not one layer/interface versus another. These layers exist for all Oracle types (in the Type System). Oracle not only allows you to add to the top layer by adding/defining a new data type. It also allows you to customise (if needed) the layers below it.
