HELP with DATA TYPES

I am totally new in oracle and am interested in databases. Can anyone please tell me that is there any ORACLE DATA TYPE which allows only integer input.

It's not the fact that a telephone "number" MAY include non-numeric characters, it's the fact that it has no numeric properties. Simple test: would you ever conceive of doing any mathematical operations on a telephone number? The answer is a resounding "NO".
Same thing applies to United States Social Security "Numbers", and U.S. postal zip codes. They are all represented with numeric characters, but have no properties of numbers. It is simply by convention that these codes use exclusively the same characters that are used to represent numbers. The convention could have just as easily specified other characters as well and it would not have changed the nature of the data.
And it is this very confusion of data type that causes unwanted behavior when importing text files into Excel. If Excel sees a field that contains only numeric characters, it assumes (often incorrectly) that it is a number, and stores it as a number, and makes the column a number. As a result, "numbers" that aren't really numeric get any leading zeros dropped and the data is thus corrupted. Thank you Billl . . .
I fear that as my generation of programmers moves into retirement, the generation that was brought up on 'point-'n'click' programming will more and more develop poor applications because they lack a fundamental understanding of the nature of data.. Any my future health care and retirement income will be managed by systems developed by such . . .

Need Help with data type conversion

Hello People,
I am new to java, i need some help with data type conversion:
I have variable(string) storing IP Address
IPAddr="10.10.103.10"
I have to call a library function which passes IP Address and does something and returns me a value.
The problem I have is that external function call in this library excepts IP Address in form of a byte array.
Here is the syntax for the function I am calling through my program
int createDevice (byte[] ipAddress).
now my problem is I don't know how to convert the string IPAddr variable into a byte[] ipAddress to pass it through method.

Class InetAddress has a method
byte[] getAddress() You can create an instance using the static method getByName() providing the IP address string as argument.

Issue with Data type 'Date' in Hyperion Planning V11.1.2.2

Hi,
I have created members with data type date. However when I save the date, it either disappears or comes up with a random date? Has any one come across this kind of problem before?
If so can you share the fix.

This problem is linked to you not having a consistent setting for your date input type.
So, go to application administration and set the date format to MM/DD/YYYY in application settings and display options, under current application defaults. Then after you have done this as a user go to User Preferences and display options and on the date format select the same. Or remove the Automatically detect.
I have seen this behaviour if you have Automatically Detect on the user preferences

JDBC MS Access--- cannot extract entry with null value with data type Meta

I'm trying to extract a data entry with null value by using JDBC. The database is MS Access.
The question is how to extract null entry with data type memo? The following code works when the label has data type Text, but it throws sqlException when the data type is memo.
Any advice will be appreciated! thanks!

The question is how to extract null entry with data type memo?Okay, what you need to do is this:

}This way, when it's a null value, you can check it first, and then handle it how you want, rather than getting an exception.

Is there a Java utility class to help with data management in a desktop UI?
I am writing a UI to configure a network device that will be connected to the serial port of the computer while it is being configured. There is no web server or database for my application. The UI has a large number of fields (50+) spread across 16 tabs. I will write the UI in Java FX. It should run inside the browser when launched, and issue commands to the network device through the serial port. A UI has several input fields spread across tabs and one single Submit button. If a field is edited, and the submit button clicked, it issues a command and sends the new datum to the device, retrieves current value and any errors. so if input field has bad data, it is indicated for example, the field has a red border.
Is there a standard design pattern or Java utility class to accomplish the frequently encountered, 'generic' parts of this scenario? lazy loading, submitting only what fields changed, displaying what fields have errors etc. (I dont want to reinvent the wheel if it is already there). Otherwise I can write such a class and share it back here if it is useful.

here my problem is for BP transaction I could not find any BADI or screen exit to add the fields. Even EEWB tool does not allow us to cretate the fields with data type "TIMS". so could you please suggest any other way to add these fields to BP?

BUT000 table also?

In the physical layer, Column Properties change the data type to int.
If still problem exists, In the Business Model, write a case statement like
case when column1=1 then 1 end
and apply count aggregation on the new calculated column,add the column to presentation table, use that new calculated column for report.

Need Help with Dates

I am printing a calendar and certain events will be helds on certain dates.
One can edit the event if it has not passed the date. Events in the past can be viewed but not edited.
When I query the database the date must be formatted dd-MMM-yy
I am able to get today's date by doing this:

I'm looping through each day of the month to print the days. I have the month, day, year as integers. How can I create a date object out of that and compare it to today's date to test if it's before or after today???
All the function in the Date class that I think would do this have been deprecated.

Here is some information about dates:
There are many edible palm fruits, and one of the most widespread and favored of these is the data (Phoenix dactylifera). Dates were cultivated in ancient land from Mesopotamia to prehistoric Egypt, possibly as early as 6000 B.C. Then--as now--dates were a staple for the natives of those dry regions. Much later, Arabs spread dates around northern Africa, and dates were introduced into California by the Spaniards in 1765, around Mission San Ignacio.
The date prefers dry, hot climates, because date fruits are injured at temperatures of 20 degrees F, and the damp climate of the California coast was not favorable for fruit production. In the mid-1800s, the date industry developed in California's hot interior valleys and in Arizona. Now the date industry in the United States is localized mostly in the Coachella Valley, where the sandy soils permit the plants to be deeply irrigated. Today the new varieties, mostly introduced in this century, produce about 40 million pounds of dates per annum, or over 60% of the dates consumed in this country. The rest are imported mainly from Persia. According to one survey, about one million people are engaged entirely in date palm cultivation worldwide.

Help with date validation on input boxes.

I need some help with date validation on input boxes.
What I�m trying to create is a form where a user inputs dates and then the rest of the form calculates the other dates for them.
i.e. � A user inputs 2 dates (A & B) and then a 3rd date which is 11 weeks before date B is calculated automatically.
Is this possible and if so how do I do it ???

Each ABAP program define its own data types using the statement.
TYPES dtype TYPE type ...
and declare its own variables or instance attributes of classes using the statement

Within the program or a class, you can also define local data types and variables within procedures. Local variables in procedures obscure identically-named variables in the main program or class.
When creating data types and data objects, there are a number of naming convention that also apply for other local program definitions, such as procedures. These are described in detail in the keyword documentation.
The Additions TYPE and LIKE
The additions TYPE type and LIKE dobj are used in various ABAP statements. The additions can have various meanings, depending on the syntax and context.

Have you ever had trouble figuring out how to work with the waveform data type, the dynamic data type, or some of the other more complex data types in LabVIEW? Have you ever given up on a particular data type because it didn't work? Have you ever created a replacement data type because you preferred not to use a LabVIEW data type?

I've been programming LabVIEW since around 3.1 / 4.0. Over the years and versions, I've found it necessary to approach a lot of the new datatypes and algorithms with some healthy skepticism because I don't think we're usually given a "fair and balanced" overview. Some of the things that are highly promoted that bring "ease of use" for beginners (and I *do* understand the importance of that when you're growing your LabVIEW user base) can carry significant performance penalties that are mentioned in more of a whisper, if at all. I'd just like a more full disclosure of the tradeoffs -- the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Waveforms -- very rarely use them, unless required for analysis functions. I have a vague notion (between a belief and a memory) that they used to carry a significant performance penalty compared to arrays, but that the gap is now much smaller. Still, I'm most comfortable with my old habit of using data arrays. Some of this came about because a lot of my work uses counters where I may have a variable "dt" value or where my AI is clocked by a counter and the "dt" isn't internally generated.
Dynamic signals -- have never used them. Have no clear idea what good they're supposed to be, and they seem to be tied in primarily with Express VI's, which I have also studiously avoided.
Variants -- Use them only slightly. Performance issues are a question mark. Exception: have learned that the implementation of Variant properties allows their use as an efficient way to create associates for string lookup tables.
Digital Waveform -- have typically avoided it except when graphing digital data during debug. Haven't found any compelling reasons to use it. I do like the notion of a compress/expand capability for sparse digital data, but haven't exercised it enough to trust the implementation.
Recap: I don't need more simple "how-to's" in the help. I need a LOT more "why bother's" that include both pros and cons.

Help with data imports and identifying correct contact

Hi Guys,
I am looking to import some data from a csv into a table called 'interactions'
This table is linked to contact via a 1-to-many relationship.
when I am importing data often I get errors saying that it cant determine which contact to use because we have contacts with the same name.
Is there anyway I can import data into the 'interaction' table and not only say which contact this is attached to but also provide some more information such as the contacts parent account so that it can identify the correct contact more often and leave
me less that I need to add manually?

The data import wizard is built into CRM. You can now place csv files of different entities into a single zipped file to do a sort of pseudo batch import.
It may be helpful to download a template of the import file for the entity that you want to import. This can be downloaded within CRM. The benefit is that you are given the column headings. And when you hover over a column heading, it tells
you the data type it will expect. I will use the template and just copy and paste the data in from another spreadsheet if I get the data from a user. The import runs smoother then.
If you have the resources, there are 3rd party tools such as Scribe that can import data from different sources into CRM. A bit costly but you can get a trial version to test. The trial may only be good for 2 weeks. But it offers the ability
to transform data if necessary for the import.

Problem with data type 'STRING'

Hi All,
I have created a table named as zproject_mat and there is a field 'LONG_D' for long description and its size is not limited, so i used 'STRING' data type for this field. But the problem is: when i use this field in where condition with 'SELECT QUERY' in my abap program , it throws me an error..'The field long_d is a long string , so it cannot be used in WHERE, ON, or having conditions'.
Can anyone help me regarding this. I dont know which data type will be suitable in both conditions, LONG DESC AND SELECT QUERY.

Hi Rahul,
As mentioned your Table name is 'zproject_mat' and there is a field 'LONG_D'.
The field 'LONG_D' will have a Data Element associated with it. Create a new input Data Element & Domain 'ZLONG' of Type CHAR with Length = 1100. This will used in the code.
For the Table 'zproject_mat', you need to need to break up your field as 'LONG_D1', 'LONG_D2', ........, 'LONG_D5' with Data Element as 'BAPI_MSG'.
To INSERT data in table:
In your code, you need to write your logic where the field 'LONG_D' is SPLIT into 5 words and saved in your table against the 5 fields.
To SELECT data from table:
In your code, again you need to write your logic where the field 'LONG_D' is SPLIT into 5 words as abaove and pass them to your SELECT query...

The limitation of a table length is 4096 whereas of a field is 255 to make it RFC compatible. Table/Structure fields that are passed via RFC for integration have this limitation and to maintain database standards, these limitations exist.
