  • Can't purchase home network defender after trial. Can anyone help??????

    I get an error page that says:   Due to the instability of your Internet connection, we cannot process your request. Please try again in a few minutes  I talked to 2 live techs and still no help.  The first guy said that I had to buy network magic for hnd to work.  I told him that in the FAQ page it says you do not have to buy network magic in order to use hnd.  he said that was incorrect and it will work if I buy the program.  So I paid for network magic and what do you know I still get the same error page.  so I talked to the second live tech and they gave me the support number for network magic.  When I called them the guy said that I didn't need network magic to use hnd.  He was nice enough to give me my money back.  He said that I would have to talk to someone at linksys support to help me.  Well I think I am done with that.  No one knows how help me and it seems like they don't care to help me buy their own product.  I used hnd during my trial and loved it.  I also talked to trend micro and they said they don't support hnd and just gave me a web link to linksys support page.  So it seems like no one from linksys or trend micro can help me buy their product.  If anyone is out there that can help me let me know.  They have a customer waiting at their door.  Or maybe I should just return the router and by a different brand.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I just want to send out a special thanks to Spencer.  For anyone else who is having problems with HND Spencer is the man.  He stuck with me the whole way and made sure that there was going to be a resolution.  And I am happy to say that I have purchased HND and its activated.  All you need is a little patience and Spencer can work it out.  I work in the customer service business and must say Spencer is top notch.  Thanks again Spencer for all your time and effort.  And for everyone else I highly would recommend getting Home Network Defender.  It's a great product with awesome protection and unrivaled parental controls.  If you have kids and want to feel safe that they are not getting into trouble on the internet.  Or worried about them messing up your computer with viruses or spyware.  HND is a no brainer!!!!  Great product!!!  Thanks Linksys and Trend Micro.

  • ID and password won't let me into Home Network Defender

    When I set up a new install of Home Network Defender two days ago, some of the settings were temporary. This evening I tried to go into HND to revise some settings and the access info that I wrote down when setting it up two days ago won't work. What do I need to do to get into HND to set it up.
    I tried "Live Chat" That was much time and lots of restating the issue with finally getting some instructions to uninstall Network Magic Pro, reboot, and reinstall NM. I did. Nothing changed except the clock (more time lost).
    I'd sure appreciate some helpful instructions for how to get into HND or how to uninstall it and start over. I can't see HND as an installed application on my computer.
    Router: WRT610N (working great)
    Adapter: WUSB600B (working great)
    o/s: Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intalled HND 6/8/09
    Installed NM 6/8/09 and again 6/10/09
    Tried to add anti-virus 6/8/09 (that seemed to be a non-starter)
    Cheers!

    I have similar problem.
    When I tried to login i get following message "HND is registered to a different user account please try again ".
    I spent one hour chatting with online support of linksys and got directed to Trend. Yester day I spent one hour with Trend to get "kicked" back to Linksys support.
    This time (my third attempt) on phone support with linksys I spent another one hour resetting router WRT610N to factory default and reinstalling the software. Then got transfered to "Tech specialists". I was given an offer to remotely 'try' to fix for "additional cost" or can guide me.
    At this time I have two softwares worth for a total of $100 that is not doing its work and I was given an option to fix remotely for 'additional cost". When asked about this to the agent, received a 'curt' reply that it is optional to spend.
    Anyway eventually even this guided service did not work after once again reinstalling the software for the second time. I was then directed to "Purenetwork" saying they manufacture Network Magic software and they can reset from the server.
    My fourth call with "Purenetwork" costed me another 1 Hour uninstalling the software, resetting the Router. Finally I was told this is a unique problem for which I will get reply once they discuss internally and find an answer. No time lines comitted. After more than 24 hours from my last call, I do not have any answer to my problem.
    After seeing this many treads on HDN, I am surprised to see such product amd support from Linksys.
    Can any one help me how to reset HDN?

  • Network Defender/cannot remove or uninstall

    I recently purchased a second wireless router made by Cisco and installed it without much of a problem. However, I cannot get rid of NETWORK DEFENDER ... I did reinstall the device and went through the process of NOT INSTALLING Network Magic. ... I tried a couple of things that have been mentioned on this board, however, I CANNOT get rid of NETWORK DEFENDER ... I need access to my OWN, PERSONAL WEB SITE, and Network Defender does not allow me to get there ... Since I have uninstalled Network Magic, there is NO WAY to go back and "turn off" this software ... Like the router but I ABSOLUTELY HATE the software and the fact that I cannot hook up the router without loading the software ...
    You guys did a TERRIBLE JOB for consumers, and I don't think I'm asking too much to rid myself of this software ... HELP!!! I need to access my web sites!!!

    Hi, you need to use Network Magic to disable Home Network Defender.  Open up the HND settings from Tasks, then slide both sliders for Home Network Defender to none.  Home Network Defender is a service provided on your Route, but Network Magic is used to configure it on your router.
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
    Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
    Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
    Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
    Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
    Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • I need help on a maze game...

    I need to create a maze game, consist of a 14x18 grid that contains various obstacles. At the beginning of the game, the player is positioned at the upper left-hand corner of the grid. Each space of the board may have one of the following items in it: an immovable block, a moveable block, a bomb, or nothing. The items in the game have the following behavior:
    1. The player is controlled by the user. The player may move up, down, left, or right.
    2. An empty space is empty. Anything may move into an empty space.
    3. An immovable block cannot move. Nothing may move the grid space that an immovable block occupies.
    4. A moveable block can be pushed by the user. It cannot be pushed off of the grid. It cannot be pushed onto a space that an immovable block occupies. A movable block can be pushed into a space that is occupied by another moveable block provided that the second moveable block can move in turn.
    5. A bomb space looks just like an empty space, however it's behavior is quite different. Only when something moves into its space does it become visible. If a player moves into the space, the bomb explodes, killing the player. If a moveable piece is moved into a bomb space, the bomb becomes visible. The bomb will still be active, meaning a player will still want to avoid this grid location.
    The goal of the game is for the player to move from the upper left-hand corner to any grid location in the rightmost column. The player is moved by the input entered by the user.
    So far, I have succesfully made the Simple console input for this game. The source code is as following.
    import java.io.BufferedReader;
    import java.io.InputStreamReader;
    import java.io.IOException;
    public class SimpleConsoleInput

    System.out.print(":");
    // Declare and initialize the char
    char character = ' ';
    // Get the character from the keyboard
    boolean successfulInput = false;
    while( !successfulInput )
    try
    character = (char) br.read();
    successfulInput = true;
    catch (NumberFormatException ex)
    System.out.println("Please enter a character: ");

    Would someone please help me on this game...

    More information about this game:
    The game should generate a random obstacle course for the player. The first column of the grid, however, should consist of all empty pieces, with the exception of the upper left-hand corner, which is the grid location where the player initially resides.
    Enter a loop in which the following things happen (not necessarily in this order):
    Print the current board configuration. Additionally, a key should be printed describing what each piece is.
    Get an action from the user. The player can move up, down, left, or right. Use the following controls: up = 'i', down = 'm', left = 'j', right = 'k'. The player can move at most one block at a time. Of course, if the player tries to move into a spot occupied by an immovable block, the player will not move.
    Inform the player whether they have won, or if they have lost (a player loses if they step on a bomb piece).
    If the player types 'q', the game should terminate.
    I am still stuck on this maze generator stuff.... Please help me....

I'll let you know later, thanks in advance.

    }Kevin Bacon Game
    For a description of the Kevin Bacon game, follow this link http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/ . Try the game a few times and see if you can find someone with a Bacon Number higher than 3. In this program you will find all persons with a Bacon Number of 8 or higher. One of these persons is a former President of the United States.
    Strategy
    This is basically a shortest path problem. After that is done, find the large Bacon numbers by scanning the bacon numbers and print out the high-numbered actors and their chains. To print out a high-numbered actor, you should use recursion. Specifically, if some actor x has a Bacon number of b, then you know that they must have been in a movie with someone, call them actor y with a Bacon number of b-1. To print out x's chain, you would print out y's chain (recursively) and then the movie that x and y had in common.
    The Input Files
    There are two data files; both have identical formats. These files are: actors file and actresses file. These files are both compressed in .gz format, and were obtained from the Internet Movie Database. Combined, they are 52 Mbytes (compressed!) and were last updated October 17, 2002. These files are available at ftp://ftp.imdb.com/pub/interfaces/
    These datafiles contain approximately 571,000 actors/actresses in a total of 192,000 movies, with 2,144,000 roles. These files also list TV roles, but you must not include TV roles in your analysis.
    Before you run on the large data sets, use the small (uncompressed) file sample.list(http://www.fiu.edu/~lmore004/cop3530/sample.list) to debug the basic algorithms. In this data file, there are six actors, named a, b, c, d, e, and f, who have been in movies such as X, Y, and Z.
    Input File Hints
    Since it is not my input file, I cannot answer questions about it. Here are some observations that I used in my program, that should suffice. You can read the input file line by line by wrapping a FileInputStream inside a BufferedInputStream inside a GZIPInputStream inside an InputStreamReader inside a BufferedReader. You may not uncompress the file outside of your program.
    There are over 200 lines of preamble that can be skipped. This varies from file to file. However, you can figure it out by skipping all lines until the first occurrence of a line that begins with "Name", and then skipping one more.
    There are many postamble lines, too, starting with a line that has at least nine dashes (i.e. ---------).
    A name is listed once; all roles are together; the name starts in the first column.
    A movie title follows the optional name and a few tab stops ('\t'). There are some messed up entries that have spaces in addition to tab stops.
    The year should be part of the movie title.
    Movies made in 2003 or later should be skipped.
    A TV movie, indicated by (TV) following the year, is to be skipped.
    Archive material, indicated by (archive footage), is to be skipped. (Otherwise JFK is a movie star).
    Cameo appearances, indicated by [Cameo appearance], should be skipped.
    A TV series, indicated by a leading " in the title is to be skipped.
    A video-only movie, indicated by (V) following the year is allowed.
    Blank lines separate actors/actresses, and should be skipped.
    Strategy
    In order to compute your answers, you will need to store the data that you read. The main data structures are a Map in which each key is an Actor and each value is the corresponding list of movies that the actor has been in, and then a second Map, in which key is a movie and each value is the list of Actors in the movie (i.e. the cast). A movie is represented simply as a String that includes the year in which it was made, but an Actor includes both the name of the actor, and a data field that you can use to store computed information later on. Thus, ideally, you would like to define a class that looks somewhat like this (with routines to compute Bacon Numbers not listed):
    public class Database
      private static final class Actor
         String name;
         int    data;  // Bacon number ,
                       // determined by computeBaconNumbers
         public String toString( )
           { return name; }
         public int hashCode( )
           { return name.hashCode( ); }
         public boolean equals( Object other )
           { return (other instanceof Actor) &&
                    ( (Actor) other ).name.equals( name ); }
        // Open fileName; update the maps
      public void loadFile( String fileName ) throws IOException
      public int getActorCount( )

      Memory Details
    The description above is pretty much what you have to do, except that you must take extra steps to avoid running out of memory.
    First, you will need to increase the maximum size of the Java Virtual Machine from the default of 64Meg to 224Meg. You may not increase it any higher than that. If you are running the java interpreter from the command line, the magic option is -Xmx224m. If you are using an IDE, you will have to consult their documentation --- don't ask me.
    Second, you will quickly run out of memory, because if you find two movies that are the same, but are on different input lines, the default setup will create two separate (yet equal) String objects and place them in the value lists of two different actors. Since there are 2.1 million roles, but only 192,000 movies, this means that you will have ten times as many String objects as you really need. What you need to do is to make sure that each movie title is represented by a single String object, and that the maps simply store references to that single String object. There are two basic alternatives:
    The String class has a method call intern. If you invoke it, the return value on equal Strings will always reference the same internal String object.
    You can keep a HashMap in which each key is a movie title, and each value is the same as the key. When you need a movie title, you use the value in the HashMap.
    Option two is superior (performancewise) to option #1 and it is required that you use it to avoid memory problems.
    When you maintain the list of movies for each actor, you will want to use an ArrayList. It takes little effort to ensure that the capacity in the ArrayList is not more than is needed, and you should do so, to avoid wasting space (since there are 571,000 such array lists).
    When you construct the HashMaps, you can issue a parameter (the load factor). The higher the load factor, the less space you use (at the expense of a small increase in time). You should play around with that too; the default is 0.75; you will probably want a load factor of 2.00 or 3.00.
    You must be very careful to avoid doing any more work in the inner loops than you need to, including creating excessive objects. IF YOU CREATE EXCESSIVE OBJECTS, YOUR PROGRAM MAY SLOW TO A CRAWL BECAUSE ALL ITS TIME WILL BE SPENT IN THE GARBAGE COLLECTOR OR RUN OUT OF MEMORY COMPLETELY.
    What to Submit
    Submit complete source code and the actors/actresses with Bacon Numbers of 8 or higher. Include the complete paths for each of the actors/actresses (with shared movie titles). Also indicate how long your algorithm takes. This means how long it takes to load, and also how long it takes to run the shortest path computation (not including the output of the answer), by inserting calls to System.currentTimeMillis at appropriate points in your code, and tell me how many actors and movies there are. Also, insert this code (at the end of your program) that tells me how large the VM is:
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime( );
    int vmsize = (int) rt.totalMemory( );
    System.out.println( "Virtual machine size: " + vmsize );
    Don't forget to write in the processor speed of the computer you are using. If it's somewhat fast, or provably space-efficient, you can get extra credit. You cannot receive credit for a working program if your program fails to produce a large set of actors and actresses with Bacon Numbers of 8 or higher. Note: the data you will work on and the data the Oracle uses (and the IMDB data) are all slightly out of sync. So you might not be able to exactly reproduce the results, although I was able to get a complete set of Bacon Numbers 8 and higher when I ran my program on October 23, using the Oct 17 files.
    Due Date
    This program is due on Thursday November 14.
    Additional Notes
    The exact sizes of the data files are 36381624 and 18263563 bytes, respectively. If you download and the files are larger, then you messed up the download. Note that if you are using Windows XP, these files might be uncompressed during downloading. If so, you can use this program to recompress the file. If the files are smaller, then the download probably got interrupted before it finished and you will need to retry. Here is a gzipped sample.list for you to test that aspect of your program.
    Running on COTTON in the AUL, which is a 450 MHz Pentium III, and accessing the files over the network as "\\\\couger\\cop3530\\actors.list.gz", (and similarly for actresses.list.gz), and with no other processes running besides notepad, the data files loaded in 180 seconds. You should be able to get faster results on a faster machine. Some of the AUL machines are 1.6 GHz. You should indicate which AUL machine (with processor speed) ran your submission.
    Entries with years such as (1996/I) are optional.
    When writing and reading make sure you are using BufferedInputStream and BufferedOutputStream, as appropriate.
    Sketch of the basic shortest path computation:
    // typically invoked with Kevin Bacon as parameter
    // This is the basic algorithm; there's stuff

  • [HELP] Online Multiplayer Quiz Game!

    Hi, I am wondering if it is possible to make online multiplayer quiz game.
    With that I mean over the LAN network.
    Like it use the bluetooth and you connect to it.
    Like the quiz is to answer 0-20 on german and when you click check it will send the answer to the other phone. Like if my mom have it and says whats wrong and right you know. It would be neat if you did help me!
    Thanks, Sander over here!
    In ActionScript 3 to Air for IOS.

    multiplayer games are for advanced programmers.
    the easiest way to start multiplayer gaming with flash is it use adobe's rtmfp peer-to-peer connections.  here's an excerpt from a book (Flash Game Development: In a Social, Mobile and 3D World) i wrote:
    Multiplayer Games
    With multiplayer games data needs to be communicated among the players.  When a player makes a move (changing the game state) the updated game state needs to be communicated to all the other players. In addition, that communication needs to occur in a timely manner.
    With turn based games (like card games) that communication among players can take as long as few seconds without degrading the game experience. With real time games (like shooter games), even a 250 millisecond delay in communicating game state leads to a significantly degraded player experience. Consequently, real time multiplayer games require substantial expertise to successfully develop and deploy.
    There are two fundamentally different ways that communication among players can be accomplished. Players can communicate via a server (server based games) or they can communicate directly from player to player (peer-to-peer) games.
    Server Based Multiplayer Games
    Generally, the code in each player’s Flash game handles the player’s input, transmits player data to the server, receives other players' data and displays the game state. The server receives player data, validates the data, updates and maintains game state and transmits each player’s data to the other players.
    The code used on the server cannot be ActionScript so you will need to learn a server-side coding language like php or c#.  Server-side coding is beyond the scope of this book so I will not cover server based multiplayer games except to say you need to have advanced coding skills in, at least, two languages (ActionScript and a server-side language) to create these game types.
    Peer-to-peer games
    Since Flash player 10, you can create multiplayer games without the need of an intermediary server to facilitate player communication.  The Flash player can use a protocol (Adobe's Real-Time Media Flow Protocol) that allows direct peer-to-peer communication.
    Instead of using server-side code to handle the game logic and coordinate game state among players, each peer in the network handles their own game logic and game state and communicates that directly to their peers and each peer updates their game state based on the data received from others.
    To use peer-to-peer networking each peer must connect with an Adobe server.  Peer-to-peer communication does not go through that server (or it that would not be peer-to-peer) but peers must stay connected with the Adobe server in order to communicate with each other.
    To communicate with the Adobe server you should use your own server URL and developer key. That URL and key can be obtained at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=cirrus.

  • Need help creating network of 1 Airport Extreme & 2 Airport Expresses!

    Please somebody help me! I've literally been trying to get our home network to function for months now. I'm seriously about to cry if i can't make it work.
    Here's the situation:
    Our apartment is long and narrow and probably has lead paint, so our wifi, powered by a brand new Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11n router (named Igor) connected to a comcast modem doesn't reach the whole house. So we got 2 Airport Expresses to place throughout the apartment (named Sven and Svetlana) to help boost the signal.
    First i tried to set up Igor to 'Create a wireless network" with the option 'allow this network to be extended' and the connection sharing set to 'Share a public IP' and i set up Sven and Svetlana to 'extend a wireless network' and the connection sharing was set to 'share a public IP'. Everything else was automatic or default pretty much. I got it to work but the connection was really weak and dropped out a lot.
    Then i tried setting up a WDS network. no luck there either. so i went to the apple store and they told me i had to hard wire them all together using ethernet cables (roaming network i guess) to compensate for the ****** network acoustics in our place.
    So...i ran 1 ethernet cable from Igor down the hall to Svetlana and another from Igor further down the hall to Sven. I set up all 3 to 'create a wireless network' and gave them all the same network name and password. i left the 'allow this network to be extended' option unchecked on all 3 and put them all in bridge mode and automatic settings for the radio mode and channel selection. After about 50 restarts i finally got it to work. Things seemed great for a minute until i realized that my laptop was the only one in the house that could connect to the internet. When i tried to troubleshoot the problem using network diagnostics and restarts, i eventually got my roommate's laptop to work but then mine stopped working.
    i've tried changing Igor's connection setting to share a public IP address and leaving Sven and Svetlana's in bridge mode. I've tried changing the 'configure IPv4' setting from 'using DHCP' to 'manual' and entering in identical info for all 3 in the TCP/IP section.
    no matter what i do i still have no idea how to make this work for multiple devices in our apartment. I really don't understand that much about networking but i am great at following directions. Please please please please help me! I'm desperate.
    thank you in advance for your help!

    In a "roaming" network, the router connected to the Internet modem should NOT be in bridge mode. In this case that would be your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn). That is because you want it to provide both NAT & DHCP services to both AirPort Express Base Stations and the network clients.
