Help on SQL expressions in IDT

Hello experts,
I have relational connection type universe connected to SAP BW multiprovider.
I have 2 questions...
1. I want to be able to derive the cumulative total by fiscal year period. In WebI, the function is runningsum. What expression can I use in IDT business layer to calculate runningsum.
Example..
2. In WebI, there is a function sum[amount] ForAll ([Fiscal Yr Period]). How can I acheive the same function in IDT's business layer SQL expression?
Example..desired result is below highlighted in yellow colum
Appreciate any help or guidance.
Just to clarify, I need to keep the calculations in the universe and not in WebI report.

Ann,
To be perfectly honest, I would advise against it unless you have a really specific requirement which you cannot do in Webi. Cumulatives like running sum are better achieved in Webi because it offers more flexibility. You build a universe to provide the flexibility of adhoc analysis - try and visualise in SQL terms what you want to do and then consider that this can be mixed and matched with other dimensions and it throws the granularity.
What benefits do you perceive from doing it at the IDT level? Is it simply because the end users are struggling with the context operators?

"SQL Expression Fields" branch missing from Formula Workshop/Field Explorer

Hello,
I am using Crystal Reports XI R2 SP3. Some recent information I have seen suggests that I should use a feature called "SQL Expression Fields". If I search the built-in Crystal Report help for "SQL Expressions", on the help pages I see that there is a "SQL Expression Fields" branch in the left pane of the Formula Workshop, just under Formula Fields and just above Selection Formulas (it's unfortunate that I cannot embed a bitmapped screen print of this). The left pane of the Formula Workshop looks like this:
Report Custom Functions
Repository Custom Functions
Formula Fields
SQL Expression Fields
Selection Formulas
Formatting Formulas
However, in my local copy of Crystal Reports the SQL Expression Fields branch does not exist - the left pane of the Formula Workshop looks like this:

Is there some special patch, add-in or plug-in that's necessary to enable this functionality?

I set up a DSN to a local MS Access database and used it for an ODBC connection. Once connected, the SQL Expression Fields branch was available in Field Explorer and Formula Workshop.
But I am developing reports for an ERP system that uses Oracle 10g databases - I have no choice but to use Oracle 10g databases as data sources for my reports. I am not sure how to set up an ODBC connection to an Oracle database as I have never had to do so - will SQL Expression Fields not work with the native Oracle driver?

Errors when applying sql expression on filter, please help

Hello guys
I was trying to put a filter on the date column and filter between timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-31,current_date) and current_date
I was successfully able to define both field on sql expression of the filter and I selected "is between"
However when I run reports it returns the following errors:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 22024] A comparison is being carried out between non-compatible types. (HY000)
SQL Issued: SELECT "Year"."Transaction Date" saw_0 FROM tranSale_cube WHERE "Year"."Transaction Date" BETWEEN timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-31,current_date) AND current_date ORDER BY saw_0
When I using the same timestamp expression on the column formula and run report without filters, the report will return the correct date however though
I am using essbase as the data source.

However, the error still exist the same.. This error code returns when I run report based on this one single column
when I put this date column with measures and other columns then run report, I get a different error:

I believe it must be something with the essbase that is not serving OBIEE well. Because I tried the same filter on a different environment not having essbase, it return me the right results..

Select Expert or SQL Expression Fields help

I am trying to do something I would consider very simple but can figure it out.
I have two tables. FDC_Trips & Facility. On the report I can get the FDC_Trips.DivertedbyFacility field to populate a number value because that field is an integer. But we need the name to show up. That field is the ID (foreign key) of a Facilty which matches with the field Facility.Code. Instead of it displaying the DivertedbyFacility number/ID I would like it to be able to show the Facility.Name value. If I place the filed Facility.Name field on my report it is blank.
How can I write a where clause to query the Name of the Facility where the Facility.Code = FDC_Trips.DivertedbyFacility?
Do I use the Select Expert or SQL Expression Fields.
Please advise.

Actually you'll use the Links tab in the Database Expert. If CR did it's stupid auto linking thing... delete them. It usually get's it wrong.
Now just link the fk field in FDC_Trips to the pk field in Facility. Once you have that done you'll be able to simply drop Facility.FacilityName directly onto the report.

create a group, group off of account number.
Your select statement should be close to this.
in Date (2011, 01, 01) to Date (2011, 10, 31)
You can drop your fields into the detail section.
Right click the ordhrd select insert summary, group 1, and change it from sum to count.
You can suppress the details.
The corresponding SQL would look something like this.
SELECT `ordhdr`, `acct_no`, `DT`
FROM `Datasource name`
WHERE (`DT`>=#2011-01-01 00:00:00# AND DT`<#2011-10-31 00:00:01#)
ORDER BY `acct_no`

Help with an SQL Expression - Return field value where Datetime is Min or First datetime

Hello,
I'm extracting results for a patient population.
I have 6 SQL expressions that pull back the first date for specific procedures or Medications being ordered.
These Expressions work perfect - One of the expressions return the first time a lab was ordered.
I'm using SQL that return
Min(OrderDatetime)
From OrderTable
Where
LABCode = XXX
I've now been ask to return the value of this lab result.
Question: How do I write an SQL expression that return the Lab value of the Min(OrderDatetime)
Example Data
PATID* LABID * OrderDatetime * ResultValue
Pat1*133 * 12/12/2013 11:00:pm * 77
Pat1*145 * 12/12/2013 11:45:pm * 45

Here is what I came up with but I'm getting an error -
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <,>,>= or when the subquery is used as an expression.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

SQL Expressions in RAD -Getting error during runtime while generating rpt

We have just migrated from WSAD to RAD Version: 7.0.0.7.
The issue is: I am getting the error at the runtime when I am trying to use the SQL expression in my one of the report. The SQL Expression feature is not supported by this version of RAD. I checked the Help contents. It says
Field Objects: SQL expression fields
This report contains SQL Expression fields. These fields are not visible in this version of the Crystal Reports designer, but they will be evaluated by the system when the report is executed. New SQL Expression fields cannot be created by the designer. SQL Expression fields will remain in the .rpt file after saving and can be edited by other Crystal Reports designers
To me it seems you can use the 'SQL Expressions' in the report using some Crystal Reports designers and at the runtime it will be evaluated. So I edited my report with some Crystal Reports Designer and tested it on WSAD. It worked fine. Now since we have migrated to RAD, this is an issue since I am getting the following error:

SQL Browser not started in SQL Express 2012

I just installed SQL Express 2012 on a Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the advanced 64bit installation file and selected all the options except SSRS. Everything seemed to install successfully including SSMS. I was able to connect to the instance locally
and create a database. However, when I tries to connect from a client PC, I got the "not configured for remote connections" error. I went into Configuration Manager on the server and saw that that SQL Browser was stopped. But the Start Service option
was grayed out. How can I enable SQL Browser?

Displaying diff dates using PL/SQL expression for 'display only' item ?

I am having a display only item -- :P2_FROM_Date . If its Thu,Fri,Sat or Sun I want to set the date as the last Monday's date . If its Mon,Tue or Wed then it should be the present Monday's date .
E.g: Today is Friday and the last Monday was on 18th .
So for yesterday , today,tomorrow and Sunday , the date should be displayed as 18-JUN-2012.
From the coming Monday to Wednesday , the date should of be the coming Monday i.e , 24-JUN-2012
I tried it doing under 'Source ' of item using PL/SQL expression and PL/SQL function body. Not working
Can someone help ?

SQL Express 2008 R2 will not start on Windows 7 Home

Ok, This used to work, and then over night my system rebooted and now I cannot start SQL Express 2008 R2 after I have unistalled, and re-installed.   Cleared out the folders and the certificates, changed the Named Pipes configuration and all to

I am logged into either the Administrator Account or my Account in which I am in the Adminstrator Group or an Admin.   My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, so I cannot clear out the MSSQL groups and things I have seen online. Since this
is Express, there is limited capabilities with the config tool.
I have tried to change the log in as in the SQL Configuration tool and every item I check, Local Service, Local System, Network Service all give the same error,
"Cannot Find Object or Property. [0x80042004]
SInce I have Home Premium, MMC will not load the snap in for Local Users and groups to check out these items.
A check of the net user shows only the Administrator, Guest and my local login in Admin Account. net localgroups show these items.

I checked the SSL and Force Encryption is set to no and the certificates have been cleared.
I am not sure how to solve this problem.   Please help.   Thanks, in advance.

I created a new Administrator account on the machine, mdahl.   I then started the SQL Configuration Tool and changed the log on to this new account. Same problem.   Here is the SQL Log.

Also, the link you provided is to Windows Vista, not Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I did look at the registry setting they said to look at in the link.
Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Under the ProfileList subkey, delete the subkey that is named <var>SID</var>.bak.
Note <var>SID</var> is a placeholder for the security identifier (SID) of the user account that is experiencing the problem. The <var>SID</var>.bak subkey should contain a ProfileImagePath registry entry that points to the original profile
folder of the user account that is experiencing the problem.
Exit Registry Editor.
Looking into my registry for my ProfilesList as mentioned. I have these items.

Then I have an item for each of my three accounts, Administrator, Martin Dahl, and mdahl, All admin Accounts, which has no sid.bak, but a Sid, so not sure how this link helps me either.   Still looking for assistance. Still not starting.

The TEST Table from the source and TEST1 is a lookup table because I couldn't do the alais in ODI

SQL Express LocalDB as Back-end for MS Access

Can a MS Access front-end database be connected to the new SQL Express LocalDB backend on the same machine?
If the answer is YES, where do I find information about the driver/connection string?
This is what I’m trying to accomplish. I have a project that uses MS Access to collect data using stationary PCs located far from the actual data collection site. The use of Tablet PCs with the use of wireless network has been suggested to make data entry
more efficient so data collection is done at the point of inspection. The problem is that MS Access was not build to transmit data/be used in a wireless network environment, so my idea was to use the same MS Access front end (to save time by not building anther
FE and keep same interface for user) with a LocalDB as back end on the Tablet PC and have the LocalDB either at time interval send the data to synch to a network replica backend for everybody use.
If answer is NO, suggest a feasible approach with any other product of way to accomplish this data transmission.
Just so this post question is clearer a SQL Server is not be permitted in this site.

Unable to start SSIS Projects : SQL Server 2008R2 Dev edition installed on top on SQL Express 2008 with Advanced Services

Hello,
I first installed SQL Serrver Express Edition 2008 with Advanced Services (As a part of some client's software)
Now I have isntalled SQL Server Developer Edition 2008, by selecting ALL features and client tools.
Now, with BIDS, I can start SSRS and SSAS Projects, but I can't start SSIS Projects.
I am getting below error message :
To design Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration
Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
Please let me know how do I resolve this issue "Without un-installing Express Edition installed earlier on my machine"

This is a common pitfall with the SQL Express editions. It cannot co-exist. You
need to un-install the "Express".
What works is having a VM with Express Tools if I you (strangely) need them.
