Help please, safari won't connect

Hi,
Since this morning my safari & apps unable to connect to the internet.  It's just showing the looping circle and after a while it says "safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding"  Is safari having problems?
I'm sure it's not my internet connection because it works find with my laptop.
I've tried to reset the wi fi and shut down my ipad but it's still not working.
Any advice please?
Thanks.
San

Have you tried to reset your device or force close Safari and see if that clears things up
Reset
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot. No data will be lost.
Force close an app
Double tap the home button. When you see the app previews on the screen scroll sideways if needed to get the preview in question on the screen. Flick that preview up and off the screen to close the app. Single tap the home button or home screen preview to exit the mode.

Safari won't connect to internet; Firefox will???
Wierdest thing. For some reason Safari won't browse or connect to the internet anymore. When I open Safari the default address is in URL bar, but with highlighted (words only) in blue and it just sits there all day. I can't connect to any web site on the net.
However, if I open Firefox all is fine and my Mail is all fine also.
I've repaired permissions a few times and even trashed the preferences for Safari, restarted computer etc, but it still refuses to actually display anything. I get a blank white page, then after about 2 minutes it simply says "Safari can't open the page. Because the server stopped responding".
As I said, no problem with Firefox.
    Any ideas.

I thank you for getting me into the right ball-park otherwise I would not have spotted it.
You're welcome. Glad I could help.

  • Safari won't connect to certain webpages

    Welp,
on my G5, in the past few weeks, Safari won't connect with only certain internet pages, like ebay, qvc, and my school webpage. Called Apple help and the man said there was a third party thingie in the way. Dumped preferences, then re-installed the harddrive (with archives) and still the same problem. Type the address, wait more than a minute, then the Safari cannot connect page comes up. I've sent about nine of these to report bugs but have heard nothing back. I'm computer illiterate and will appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

First off, this is the eMac group. Your system info says "G5". So are you in the correct group (all eMacs are G4 machines).
Have you tried those same pages with other browsers? FireFox and Camino are two that are popular and free downloads. So first thing to do is try those out as well and see how the pages come up. If they come up in Firefox or Camino, then I would agree that your problem is with Safari.
If, however, they don't come up there, then your problem is elsewhere. Likely places to check are Firewall setting in software or in any router you might be using. I have found certain "secure" or other log in type sites sometimes have troubles with certain Firewall settings on my DSL router. You may have the same issue and are looking in the wrong place for your solution.

I can connect to Bank of America's site just fine. Can you connect to the site or is it that you can't perform certain functions on the website? Do you know that there is a Bank of America App available?

  • Safari won't connect without signing on to AOL

I’m having a problem with Safari not working. I have had my imac G5 for a couple of weeks now and It’s been working great until yesterday. I use safari and AOL with a router. Safari is my default browser. Everything was working fine except now Safari won’t connect unless I’m logged into AOL. If I’m in AOL Safari works fine only slower than normal. If I log out of AOL, Safari quits working. Anyone have any suggestions?
Not sure what happened. Everything else seems to be working fine.
    Thanks,
    randy

Just as suddenly as Safari stopped working, it started again. The only thing I did differently was sign in to the main administrator and started Safari from there. Maybe I needed to do that after I repaired permissions and reset the modem. anyhow, it's working ... for now.
    Thanks

  • Safari won't connect to internet

Hi, Safari on Ipad will not connect to my wi-fi.  My wi-fi works fine with Galaxy phone and Gateway computer.   I noticed that next to the wi-fi name there is a little swirly thing that keeps spinning like it is trying to update. I have rebooted Ipad several times and also my wi-fi.  Help!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Safari won't connect to the internet (but computer is)

    Today,
None of our Macintosh (by Apple) devices will connect to the internet. Actually, only Safari says it won't connect to the internet.
If I run Terminal on our Macbook, I can ping yahoo.com, google.com, etc... Also, Skype works just fine. However, when we run Safari, no web page will load and we get the error screen saying that the computer is not connected to the internet. Running diagnostics (forget where it's located on the computer) says we are indeed connected (which I could tell from Skype and pinging).
Coincidentally, neither our iPhone or iPod can get to any web pages on Safari when connected to our wireless router. Using 3g network they access web pages fine. Our PC has no internet troubles today whatsoever.
Any idea why Safari doesn't work? Unfortunatley we don't have Firefox or Chrome on our Macbook to test it out, not sure how to download those without being able to access their respective web pages.
    Thanks!

Try turning off the router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on.
Restart your Mac as well as the iPhone and iPod.
If that doesn't help, on the Mac, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Now on your iPhone and iPod tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
See if Safari will load pages.
If not, on your Mac, go to System Prerferences - Security.
If the Firewall is turned on, turn that off. Restart your Mac, Try Safari again.
Since you can access the net with 3G, it's got to be your Wi-Fi.
System Preferences / Network / Assist Me is where you find Diagnostics.
Make sure all the light are green. If not, click Continue.

  • Safari Won't Connect To Specific Network. Firefox Will!

I have a specific issue with Safari (and Mail.app) on a specific network I try to connect to.
The network is one offered on a train service, and pre-Lion I've been able to connect to it just fine.
All of a sudden my MBP and MBA are able to connect to the network - but if I try and start Safari it just bounces away in the dock.
On the rare occasion that Safari starts it won't connect to any webpages. Mail.app also refuses to work in the same way.
If I use Firefox - I can use the internet as normal (although I still have issues with Mail.app).
The bigger issue occurs when I am off the train and trying to use my laptop on other networks - Safari and Mail continue to refuse to work, even though the laptop tells me I'm connected. I have to restart the entire machine.
I've deleted networks from the SysPrefs, reordered them, tried a Google DNS etc etc. I've Googled the issue like crazy, and even contacted the train operator! - and so far come up with nothing.
Any help would be much apprecieted.

Do you have anti virus software installed or any apps like Little Snitch?
Try deleting the cache associated with Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac, try Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

  • Help!  Safari won't fully load web pages until I refresh!  Why and any suggestions on how to retify this??

For several months now safari has not been loading web pages properly (not them all, it is a bit random, but maybe every 3rd or 4th page I open?).  The blue loading bar gets to about 1.5 inches from the end and stops.  I can then click on the bar and refresh and it loads no problems but this is highly inconvenient and I can't seem to fix it.
I have reset safari, updated all software, I am on a mac book pro, I have Version 5.1.5 safari.
Would this be an internet problem rather than a software problem?  How would I check.
It's not very convenient when you're doing something important like trying to get tickets for an event and then it jams, and you know you need to refresh but if you refresh you've lost the tickets...
    Any suggestions welcome

    Hi Krisztina ..
Using OpenDNS can help when pages won't load properly.
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, includes anti phishing filters, prevents browser redirects, blocks the flashback trojan, and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.
Apple suggests using OpenDNS here >  Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found

  • Safari won't connect to internet but other browsers will

Firefox and Chrome can connect to the internet but since upgrading to Yosemite, Safari, iTunes and other Apple Apps have an exceedingly difficult time connecting to the internet. (ie server not found) I have to resort to turning off/on my wifi and/or restarting my computer. All other non-Apple applications can access the internet just fine.

I, too, am experiencing this problem. It occurs with both Safari and Firefox. It wasn't bad at the start; occasionally what seemed like my internet would cut out while I was surfing, but then the problem began to last for longer durations. As of this morning, I've been trying to get Safari to open for two hours with no success.
Here's the specifics. I open Safari. Most times, the load bar will extend about 1/6 the length and stop, displaying my homepage address in the address bar. Sometimes, the load bar will creep halfway, and part of my homepage will appear; typically, images don't load, and sometimes the page format gets wonky. Rarely, the homepage will fully load! I can even move through the homepage's image slideshow seamlessly. However, if I try to go to another page, I'm back at the 1/6 occurrence. Very rarely, everything works fine. Closing the laptop or Quitting Safari kills the connection, and I have to start this stupid process all over again. Finally, Firefox is either all or nothing; either the pages load and work fine, or nothing works at all.
I've done a DNS manual adjustment, I've created a specific Network, I've unchecked Safari from the iCloud options, I've run scans for malware and viruses (and came out clean), and I've done a clean reinstall of Yosemite. There's no need for me to tweak my router or contact my ISP; every other wireless application in our house is functioning perfectly. It's not the wifi.
Nothing's working, and I'm about to throw my computer out a window (not really, just frustrated). Any help would be so very appreciated.

My Ipod stopped connecting to my PC. I plug it in through the USB cable but nothing happens on the PC or the Ipod. I tried reseting it but that didn't help either. Even though I can't get it to respond to being connected to my PC I can still charge it with the adapter and Ihome and before I reset it I could still play music through my Ihome. I have a first genereation Iter's second genereation nano works fine. Is there anything I can do or do I have to send it to get it fixed if that is even possible?
