Help - Premiere CC2014 When exporting it's not using my whole CPU LONG EXPORTS

Using my recently built computer with:
250gb SSD samsung (Software)
2TB HD 7200 rpm (media, export)
6 core I7 4930K
Noctua SSO CPU cooler
Nvidia Geforce 770 4gb GPU
32 gb of ram
750 watt power supply
Asus mobo
Pretty decent computer. that shouldnt have problems exporting pretty basic videos.
I am exporting for the web.   .h264 CBR with 12-16 mbps  or similar
No Max rendering checked.
using multiple camera files from Sony, Canon, Gopro.
When it starts exporting a video that is 20 minutes long will take 4 hours to export. Video that is 3 minutes long (right now) is taking 25 minuts to export. That didn't used to be the case.
I open my Task manager and look at the processor it is only using 1 core at about 10%
I do have GPU acceleration on but I have switched it on and off and it hasn't made a difference.
I believe when I exported from my CS5 version it would use the whole processor and hash it out real quick.
THE BIG QUESTION: IS THERE ANY SETTINGS I NEED TO CHANGE TO OPTIMIZE MY COMPUTERS HARDWARE TO EXPORT THINGS EFFICIENTLY.
Anyone have this problem and find a solution for it?
I am new to usin the adobe community and problem solving on forums so let me know if I didn't give you enough information.

I too have this problem, and it seems to be relatively new. I'm trying to figure out if there's anything I changed, but I can't place it. I've read a few threads with people having this same issue though, so I don't feel like it's anything I've done.
The only solution I've come across is to do a restart. After restarting, I open AME and just start my queue. It then utilizes all cores. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to install a previous version of AME and see if the problem goes away.
This thread mentions a solution: AME CC2014 Very Slow Encoding
However, I believe this solution does not work. I did as it says, and it only temporarily fixed it, and I think that was due to the restart. Also, my power settings are set to Performance.

i have an old ipod touch that i have not used in a very long time, and im having trouble gettign it to turn on. ive had it on a charger for over an hour now and still nothing hs changed. i just updated my itunes to the current version they haev so i know its not an itunes problem its rather a problem with the old ipod touch itself. im leaving for deployment soon and im trying to get this fixed without having to send it in. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this thing turned on it would be greatly appreciated.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.
The flat fee for a battery exchange is, I believe, $99.00 USD.

  • Lightroom 6 / CC2015 - Facial Recognition Terribly Slow, not using all of CPU or GPU, still keeps going when paused.

This is actually a couple of issue but wondering if others are experiencing it and worked through it.
I am using a Dual Xeon CPU 3.2 ghz Mac Pro, Catalog on SSD, Images files on Mirrored Pair, Dedicated GPU (max I can install in my version of Mac Pro) and hardware acceleration enabled in Lightroom.
I watched the Lightroom 6 Facial Recognition tutorial which leaves out a lot of the bulk editing and says basically let it loose on your whole catalog.. NOT recommended.
I started out with a couple small portrait galleries that identified a couple hundred total people to seed facial recognition so it didn't suggest everyone is the first person I confirmed (which it will do otherwise). I have also optimized my catalog multiple times.
I have encountered the following serious performance issues and bugs with Facial Recognition.:
Lightroom Facial Recognition goes to a ridiculous crawl after about 2000 images to be confirmed. (i.e. 2000-2300 in a couple hours, 800-1200 in the next 12 hours)
Lightroom becomes largely unresponsive after having a fair number of images to be confirmed, even after pausing Address and Facial Recognition. So even selecting 4 rows of images can take 5 minutes with several long pauses.
Once I select and click confirm it takes up to 2 minutes to update the "to be confirmed" list again.
When I click on an individual at the top of the page, pause facial recognition and address lookup it still continues to "Look for similar faces" [BUG!!!!!!!!] even though all I want to do is just confirm some individuals more quickly in bulk with the images already identified.. not continue to look for more as a work around for the painfully slow responsiveness of the module.
The odd part is that with all of the performance issues Lightroom will not use more than 20-30% of my two Xeon CPUs, barely touches my GPU (<10% CPU, 30% memory), my and no more than 35% of my memory. Computer Temps are also barely above startup temperatures and 15-25 degrees cooler than when I run other applications which will consume my entire CPU and memory if I let it. I have explored Lightroom's settings but seen nothing further I can configure to speed it all up.  I have also attempted the operation on images on the SSD, my drobo (known to be slow), an independent fast disk I have, and a pair of raided disks and have the same issues.
I will also note that all of my other applications seem to continue to operate just fine.. the slowness seems to be contained to the Lightroom application itself.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

A big problem continues to be that once you wait for it to index all your faces you find it missed over half of them. There are many cases where it missed the subject of the photo but managed to find a tiny waiter off in the shadows. I don't know how this will ever get fixed; it seems it'll require an update that lets you rerun the indexing a few times, maybe with different levels of granularity. I doubt that's coming.
It stands to reason that a system that hands you thousands of false positives for every face can't recognize if something is or isn't a face in over half the cases. Faces in profile or tilted down, especially with the eyes looking down, are bypassed completely. I have directories with a thousand people shots in them, many with multiple people, and instead of LR6 returning an index of 1.5k or so, it gives me 385. I'm not sure how valuable the search advantages will be in this case; I can see it not returning some favorite shots of people.
Anyway, for anyone looking to get past the spinning wheels, work on one directory at a time. Then once a directory is done, keep it selected so you have the same thumbnails of identified faces in the confirmed area, and control-select the next directory. You won't have to reseed the confirmed faces area this way and things move much faster when you're not working with the entire library. It also helps to click each person in the confirmed faces and work in that view sometimes. It'll return faces of family members of that person and you can rename those. You can watch it focus its top results as you confirm but, annoyingly, it doesn't narrow the total suggestions but actually expands them the more faces you confirm and the fewer correct positives remain. (This seems opposite to how it should work. It should give you fewer faces the more you confirm as it gets a better idea what the person looks like and has fewer shots left unconfirmed of that person.)  Yet, even with the expanded results, faces will still escape it and pop up in other people's results as false positives.
Bottom line: It's only a little better than manual tagging, and not as thorough because of the poor hit rate of the initial indexing. But it works better if you stick to isolated directories and occasionally individual people. At least that way you don't have to wait for it to re-sort tens of thousands of results with every click.

  • MacBook Pro Battery: How can I protect my battery when not using computer for a long time period 3-months ?

    Hello,
In 2014, I am expecting to be out of the states for a long period of time which is over 3 months. I am not planning of bringing my MacBook Pro with me. As a result, what would be the correct procedure for the battery in order to preserve it in the best condition when I return back and use the battery normally.
    Many thanks for your assistance!

This is the article for non-Retina systems.  Not sure what to do fro Retina units:

I would also keep it with a friend/familymember you can trust to not take it out during that time and play frisbee with it to control humidity levels and temperature and access while unattended.

  • How can I prevent iTunes from opening when Firefox is open, when the computer is not used for a few minutes?

iTunes opens on my screen if Firefox is on, with page minimised or with current page open, if I do not use the machine for a few minutes. I can't find anything to turn this off.

When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD.

All brushes have been reset and are set the same. We are running CS5.5 Master Edition on a brand new 27" iMac 3.4 ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core using a Radeon AMD HD6970M.
This is a sample of how the tool is not using the entire diameter. This could be either erasing or painting a color.

Steve I am not a Mac user, and I can't duplicate your situation, but you have gone five hours without a reply, so I'll at least bump your thread.
All I can think of is that it is to do with the cursor display problems lots of people experienced when CS4 first came out.  That was a long time ago, but do still see the occassional glitch.  That was always fixed with graphics card drivers, but I know Mac do that differently to Windows.
So anyone got a clue what is going on here?

  • Export (Premiere CC 2014 & Media Encoder CC 2014) not using 100% of CPU

Hey all, had this problem for a while now, Adobe CC 2014 just doesn't want to utilise my CPU, thus taking a 3min clip to encode forever (god forbid I use any effects or a 3 minute clip encodes for over 5hours - no not a joke) it doesn't matter if I use the built in encoder in Premiere or use the Media Encoder. I've seen that many people struggle with this but no-one has supplied a solution not at least oen that I could find. Does anybody know a workaround? Just to throw in some numbers here. A same project file, with the same export settings with the same source files and on the same computer of course; 1 hour and 21min clip encodes in 2 hours and 24min (h264 2pass encode with 35mbit stream) in CS6, with CC 2014 it takes 6 hours and 49 min and that is just preposterous.
As can be seen from the screenshot Adobe CC 2014 is only using about 50% of my CPU thus encoding slower. I wonder if there is a way to tell Adobe to just use all of the resources that are given to it?

  • Make QT export faster? Not using resources.

I am exporting some quicktime movies to DV clips. These clips are 640x480 and anwywhere from 15 to 45 minutes long (however, the following problem happens on QT clips of all resolutions and lengths).
The problem is that the process is very slow, and QT Pro doesn't seem to be using my system's resources very much. I have a brand new Mac Pro (3ghz quad core) with 5 GB of RAM – so obviously I was hoping the new system would speed up this process. But it is not noticeably faster than my old iMac G5.
The "problem" is that I don't think QT is properly using the "horsepower" of this system. The CPU usage meters show all 4 cores being used at only about 25%-30%. However, Activity Monitor shows a process called QTPlayerHelper running at about 125% CPU! (which doesn't seem possible).
As for RAM, Activity Monitor shows all 4.95 of 5GB "used," but Quicktime is only using 100 MB and QTPlayerHelper is only showing 40MB use. But, in another apparent contradiction, it says VM size is over 19GB... if QT, which is the only thing I am doing now, is only using 150 MB of memory, why is VM usage so high?
Other than just some general insight into what is going on here, my real question is: "Is there any way to make QT use all system resources to speed up these exports (so my 4 cores of Xeon goodness would be used to their fullest potential)?"

In Activity Monitor, under the System Memory tab, you will see that RAM usage is broken down into four categories; Wired, Active, Inactive, and Free (shown visually on the pie chart).
Wired: Memory used to run the system (kernal). You can't free up Wired memory since you can't quit the system. Sometimes, a restart will free up some resources here but as you use more of the system, it will claim more memory.
Active: Launching applications causes them to claim various amounts of memory to run. Quiting applications will free up some of the Active memory.
Inactive: Applications may reserve additional amounts of memory that it uses to load a document or cache into so it runs faster that going to the disk each time. Inactive memory is variable, other applications that want to use it can grab it at will. It's basicly like holding a seat in the theatre for a friend, if all the other seats are taken and your friend hasn't shown, you have to give up the seat to anyone that wants it.
Free: Memory that hasn't been claimed or reserved.
The "Used" total includes Inactive memory, but the number in the Real Memory column for each item does not, only Wired and Active.
You may also notice this scenario one day:
    10% Wired
40% Active (let's say two applications are open)
    40% Inactive
    10% Free
---Then you quit one of the applications and see:
    10% Wired
    20% Active
    60% Inactive
    10% Free
You didn't gain any Free memory, but that's because as soon as it was available the remaining application reserved it. If the system needs it or you open a new app, it will give it up to it. It's best to think of Inactive memory as Free for your purposes.
    As for the QuickTime export...
At some point, there is a limit to how fast something can be done. I'm sure you know that 20%(x4) on a Xeon is at least >= 100% on a G5. Only applications specificaly optimized for quad-core processors can make full use of all it's power. Unfortuanatly, not every program toady has been (or needs to be), which was true when dual-core computers first came out. In this case, the power of your machine lies it the fact that you can be doing lots of other things at the same time as the QuickTime export without it slowing down. Can't do that on the G5. Right now, the biggest benefit goes to pro video editing and effects applications and specialized math and scientific programs. For the time being, know that nothing can do it faster than you can and you don't have to take lunch while it exports, you can keep working. 10 years ago, if I wanted to export a 30 minute video I edited in Adobe Premiere, I had to leave it over night, and it wasn't even DV quality or have today's fancy effects. Those were the days...

  • When i crop a video using FCE, how can i export just the selection?

When using the cropping tool with FCE 4, say i just crop out a single square from near the top of the video. if i were to export this video now, the new video would consist of the cropped out selection surrounded by black. is there anyway i can export the cropped out selection without the black? i'm not looking to rescale the image, just to remove the selection at it's original size without all the black around it.

FCE's a fixed-resolution editor and there's no way to export at the resolution of your cropped image unless it matches one of the sequence presets.  In FCP you could set a custom resolution and export as that.
