Help!- problems with Adobe reader v9 ifilter and sqlserver2005

Hello,
I am trying to implement search of pdf in binary column in sqlserver2005 using Adobe ifilter.
I installed full version of Adobe reader v9 which has its own Ifilter on my server (runs on 32bit)
I have done the following based on what i read on the internet:
The environment variable path has an entry for Adobe reader the following:D:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader
exec sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1;
exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0;
Restarted services SQLserver and MSFTESQL
The issue is upon installation, sqlserver wasn't showing the doc type 'pdf' so I registered the dll but the sys.fulltext_document_type is showing this path instead and I can't update system tables in sqlserver2005.
Also when I carry out a search based on my Fulltext setup, it returns 0 rows.
select
document_type, path from sys.fulltext_document_types where document_type = '.pdf'
document_type               Path
.pdf                                c:\program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\MSSQL\Binn\AcrodIF.dll
Please what can I do to correct things and make it possible to carry out my pdf search
THANKS!!!!

I have resolved this myself as follows:
I deleted the pdf document type entry from table sys.fulltext_document_types
At the command prompt, in the directory where Acrobat reader is installed which was on my server D drive path:
       d:\program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.3\MSSQL\Binn\ and REGISTERED the ifilter dll - AcrodIF.dll
exec sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1;
exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0;
Restarted MSFTESQL service
This resolved the problem and all these searches work:
select * from tablename where freetext(*, 'searchword')
select * from tablename where contains(*, 'searchword')
Search phase also work:
select * from tablename where freetext(*, '*search phrase*')
select * from tablename where contains(*, '*search phrase*')

  • Problem with adobe reader, commenting

one of our authors is using adobe reader x 11,1, and I send him a pdf (enabled commenting and measuring), but for some reason the commenting-fields does not show on his screen?
should I save the pdf in another way?

What do you mean by "commenting fields" exactly? By “commenting filds” I mean the tools in top of the page – delete, highlight etc. When I send the pdf, I save it as “file - save as -  reader extended pdf – enable commenting and measuring”, otherwise the commenting tools normally don’t appear by the author.
Are they existing comments? no, it is the text in his pdf-book he needs to correct
Is he able to access the commenting tools? no
You can try sending a non-enabled version since Reader 11 can add comments to a non-enabled document. will try that J

  • Continued problems with Adobe Reader 9.3.1

Adobe Reader stops at the half-way mark in the progress block when loading a form to print.  Cannot get this fixed. Does anyone out there have a fix for this.  Is Adobe even recognizing that there is a problem with this.  Error message keeps telling me that there is a problem with Adobe Reader, exit and try again.

I haven't been able to print any .pdf files since I downloaded 9.3.
My message says Internet Explorer has closed it down because of data executable files.  I've changed my DEF settings to allow
Adobe Reader but it still doesn't work.  I never had any problems before with newer versions.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader Plug-In (7, 8, and 9) on Windows XP

We are experiencing a problem with the Adobe Reader plug-in and viewing documents hosted at our site.  The problem seems to happen with larger (over 5 MB) PDF files enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem never happens when viewing PDF image only files which are not enabled for fast web viewing.  The problem happens inside and outside our firewall, so it is not a firewall problem.  My organization has been hosting PDF files to the web at least all this decade, and this is the first time we have experienced and documented this problem on this scale.  We have ruled out the program creating the PDF file is causing the problem as I have eight sample PDF files created and modified by a variety of programs exhibiting the same issue.

I can reproduce the problem with Internet Explorer 8.0.6 and Firefox 3.5.4 using Adobe Acrobat Plug-In 7.0.9.50 running on Windows XP Professional SP3.  Others have reproduced the problem with 8 and 9 versions of the plug-in on Windows XP Professional and Home.  Oddly, no one has been able to reproduce the problem with Unix/Linux versions of the plug-in or third party plug-ins.  This points to it being something wrong with Adobe Reader.
The problem is when I attempt to view one of the eight PDFs in my browser, I can severely stall or lock it up if I attempt to view more than the first page before the whole document downloads.  Sometimes if you wait it out, the browser will unlock, but not display text on the pages.  Sometimes if you wait for the whole document to load before switching pages, it works.  Sometimes you can start switching pages and the document will not lock up at all.  All eight documents can be viewed without issue if downloaded to the PC's hard drive and then viewed with Adobe Acrobat 7.0.
Can anyone point me to a technical document or reason why we would be experiencing this issue?  Even better, does anyone know the solution to these issues?
Any help will be much appreciated.

I looked at a few documents. They appear to be scans and scans that have been OCRd. It is also likely they have not been optimized for page view. This means that the document has to be fully downloaded before viewed. That means the browser may appear to freeze until the entire document is downloaded. Downloading the entire document appears to be a reasonable way to handle these files.

  • Problem with Adobe Reader and IE

I'm using Vista Home Premium and IE9 with the latest Reader available.  Starting yesterday, I cannot read PDF files on the web.  This is a new problem.  I tried to download newer versions of IE and the Reader, but both tell me I've got the newest versions I can use.
I have no problem with Firefox.  Just IE.  I prefer using IE.  Can someone guide me -- without using technical language.  Many thanks!!

Thanks for your input.  I opened the standalone Adobe Reader X, clicked Edit, Preferences, Security, Advanced Preferences.  Then clicked each of the 3 tabs on top, but nothing looked like "Protected Mode."
Then I went back and clicked Security (Enhanced) and unchecked Enable Enhanced Security.  Tested this change, but I still get the gray screen and messages:  "A problem has caused IE to close."  "A problem with this website has caused IE to close and re-open the tab."  I then went back and re-checked Enable Enhanced Security.
I should mention that I have used this particular website for about 10 years and never had a problem.  But I now have the same problem with any online PDF that I try to open using IE.
Can you think of anything else?  If not, here's my plan of attack.  Please let me know if you think it will work.
    1)  Copy over all my favorite sites from IE to Firefox.  (I've already started doing that.)
    2)  Uninstall IE and re-install it.
    3)  If I still have a problem, uninstall Adobe Reader and re-install it.
Do you think this will do the job if all else fails?
Many, many thanks for the time you have put into this.

  • Having problem with adobe reader in opening websites pdf content, can someone help in this topic ??

Give me some suitable answer for my problem.

    Hi,
Your question is not about FormsCentral. I suggest you to check whether Adobe Reader is enabled on your web browser's add-in list. For example, on Chrome you may type in "chrome://plugins/" to open the Plug-ins list, and check the status of Adobe Reader. If it's not the latest version, you may update it as well.
You may go to Adobe Reader's forums and start a discussion if you like: http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums
    Kind regards,

  • Problem with Adobe reader on iPad air

I have looked all through Google to solve this problem but can't find help anywhere.
I Have an IPad Air and want to open some PDFs files which are in a password area on a website. this works fine except for on my IPad. When I click on the file I want to open a page appears but only the first page and it doesn't even seem to be a PDF file. The first page is a school exercise but I can't read the answers on the second page. If I click on the box with the menu I can't even find the open with Adobe reader. I Have the newest version of reader for iOS and have also signed in but nothing opens the PDFs file.
I Really hope someone can help me.

I Have an IPad Air and want to open some PDFs files which are in a password area on a website.
I am not sure what the "PDFs files which are in a password area on a website" mean.
Are the PDFs from your school called "protectedPDF" by Vitrium by any chance?  Or do they use some other third-party technology for DRM (Digital Rights Management)?
Would you share one of the PDF documents with us?  I have sent you the instructions on how to share a PDF document with us (Adobe).
    Thank you for your help.

  • Is there a solution for my "files in use" installation problem with Adobe Reader XI?

I have tried repeatedly to download Adobe Reader XI (11.0.07), but I keep getting a "files in use" message that indicates my current version, Adobe Reader 8.1, is using files that need to be updated by the download's set up. The message directs me to close my Adobe Reader 8.1 and then continue, but when I receive it my Adobe Reader 8.1 is always closed. I am tempted to uninstall my Reader 8.1 and then try downloading Reader XI, but I am afraid I could be inviting even more trouble. I should mention the reason I am trying to download Reader XI is a notification I received in my computer's status box that indicates my Reader 8.1 is not working properly and suggests I download the latest version. I discovered the notification after I was unable to open a GIF file attachment. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

    Thanks for your reply.
I tried to uninstall my Adobe Reader 8.1 in safe mode, as suggested above, but received a message which indicated that Windows installer could not be accessed. That was a strange message, because I have not had problems uninstalling programs in the past, and, after receiving the message, I tried uninstalling a different program in safe mode and had no problem doing so. I am now going to try your suggestion.
Honestly, these types of technical issues always leave me so frustrated. I do not have a high technology acumen, and because my laptop is six years old, I cannot get professional help without paying a hefty fee. Thank goodness for this forum. If the solutions suggested here do not work, I guess I will keep my laptop until my Adobe 8.1 gives out completely.
Thanks again for your assistance. I will let you know if it works.

  • Win7/32 Preview Problem with Adobe Reader XI

we need Win7/32 with Adobe Reader XI. The Preview function in the explorer does not yet work.
Windows is in German, Adobe Reader in English
    Thanks for your help

Reader XI is the program name; the version is something like 11.0.10.  If your version is less than that, update to that version and try again.
If that doesn't fix the problem, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Printing Problems with Adobe Reader 10.0.1

I need some help on printing with Adobe Reader X:
we use Multi Funktional Printer from HP, they have some finishing options like Booklet Printing or stapling.
when printing 1 copy of a document it is attached correctly, at 2 copys of a document (stapled or booklet), the documents stapled together.
With Adobe Reader 9.4 it was working fine, since Update on 10.0 / 10.0.1 we have the error on 2 or more copys of a document they are stapled togehter, so they are useless!

I have the same issue. I searched and found your April 18 post. Since it has not been answered, I posted my own also.
Maybe one of us can get the answer.

  • Runtime error with Adobe Reader 9.x and IE

I'm getting a runtime error with any adobe reader 9.x and Internet Explorer whenever a .pdf is being viewed online.  It will pull the .pdf up and then pop up a runtime error window and close it down completely.  It is only happening with individuals that have redirected app data folders and profiles.  I have all machines running Windows XP sp3 and IE8.  I know, I know, I can always go to Firefox or Chrome, but IE is easily managed with group policy lockdowns.  I can unintall reader 9.x and then reinstall 8.x and it works perfectly.  The only problem with that is that I have to go do every machine and physically uninstall since I buildt the windows xp installer package with it.  Does anyone know a workaround or if adobe is going to get it fixed pretty soon?

I am experiencing exactly the same problems on one of two identical machines after something happened in the registry.
The first problem that appered was an error 1325 "Favorites is not a valid short name".
I did find the registry key involved (%userprofile%\Favorites) and fixed it.
So now the the next one: yours.
I think the solution can be found in the list of registry keys that Adobe Reader is accessing.
btw Eusing registry cleaner did not find this key to be in error.
Problem is that the Reader does not ask for an alternative location after stumbling on the key.
Who can gnerate a list of keys accessed?
