Help restoring facetime and utilities folder

I got my new iPhone 4 today and used the "restore from back-up" command in iTunes to port everything over.
When I restarted, I don't have facetime, and the utilities folder was gone. I assume that all the utilities had in it was calculator, stocks, weather, etc. And I still have those from my old phone.
1) How do I get facetime back?
2) Anything in utilities that has been added or other apps Apple included that I may have lost on the upgrade/porting process?

Uhh, I did a search first thing.
There is no app, and the setting under Phone, which is on, is to have facetime display one's phone number...not to enable the program.
Next suggestion?

Drive Genius 2 and utilities folder

Hi there
1) I am hopping some one called help me with Drive Genius 2. I want to initialize the disk. But the problem is that there are two options one is “Apple Partition Map” the other is “GUID Partition Table”. Don’t know which one to choose, what do they mean? I am using a three year old iMac and want to reformat an external USB drive.
2) Something else I would like to know about the utilities folder in the app folder on the Mac. All of the utilities that came with the Mac are missing. Don’t know where they have gone but “About this Mac “ and the more info button is greyed out and cant be pressed. The info I think was in utilities folder which is now missing. How do I get the utilities back, can I get it from the Mac OS X disc that came with the computer? Don’t want to install the how system, is there anyway I can just get utilities from the disc?

I have Pacifist and I thought it had worked but on the Disk utility, system profiler, and terminal are crossed out and when clicked on it says "You can't open the application "System Profiler" because it is not supported on this architecture". What does this mean and can I get it working again?

Help...deleted utilities folder!

My wireless mouse is acting up and I managed to delete my entire utilities folder! I checked the utilities folder on the OSX disk but it doesn't seem to have nearly as many utilities I had before like Audio/midi setup, Activity monitor and a bunch more...where can I get these back?

QT 7 and Utilities folder

Having downloaded what must be the latest version of QT 7 (for SL) from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923 , and registered it as QT 7 Pro, I'm wondering why it is installed in the Utilities folder.
Not that it really matters, but could it be moved to the Applications folder?

I can only guess, but I imagine it's in the Utilities folder so as to not confuse people with having two versions of QT Player in the Applications folder. I haven't tried moving QT Player 7, but I would imagine that it would work. Updating it may be problematical if you move it, though; the updater may fail or it may install another version in the Utilities folder.

Need help restoring iphoto and iphoto library

Hi, I have been trying for over a year to restore my iphoto library which was lost when my hard drive died. Since I often go months between attempts, I kind of forget what we have already tried. I think we have tried rebuilding it as suggested in other posts. When we have done this, I think we have ended up with about 6 copies because when we search in spotlight, it says we have 19,196 jpgs!
When the hard drive died we had about 3000 photos. I believe all of them are still there in the mom and dad user, and they seem to be undistorted-yeah! However, when I click on the iphoto icon, I only get the task bar, no window opens up, and almost all the options are gray.
So basically, if I want to find a photo, I have to go through a long path, locate the thumbnail, drag it to the desktop and then I can use it.
I have read many of the similar posts, but I was still unsure what to try first in my situation. I imagine I need to get rid of about 16,000 copies of my original photos before I do anything else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to make a family album, and I really need those photos!

I don't know what version of iphoto I am running (or was running?), but I think it is an older one, since my g4 is several years old, and I don't think I ever purchased ilife. If someone can tell me how to check, I will provide the info.

I looked through some of the jpgs from spotlight, and I found at least 1000 that weren't photos, just some weird random stuff I didn't recognize.
Yes, the rebuild did work for awhile, but then it was gone again. It doesn't seem like it lasted very long. Also, I had the same problems others described with all the albums lost, and it seems like there were some photos I thought were lost as well. Like I said, I go months between my attempts to do this because it is so time consuming, so that is why I can't remember all the details.
Anyway, I thought that when I had it restored for a short time that I had backed up my photos, but now I can't find the disks, so maybe I never got around to it. You can bet I will be doing it this time!
For the sake of my book I am trying to get done for Christmas, would it be bad to just search through my jpgs, make a folder of some of them on the desktop, and then import them to shutterfly?
Also, I am wondering if buying the new ilife w/iphoto 8 would be a good idea right now or if it would just make a bigger mess of things? Would it have any way to search for my photos?
Sorry for all the questions. Hopefully if there is a solution, I will be able to get there soon.

I got some many ppl telling me that i have to pay for facetime! My dad got iphone 4 and we live in canada (calgary) My brother lives in Australia and i have mac! Is facetime free to talk to him! Telus is telling us that it will cost my dad 2 dollars a min then Rogers is telling us it is free! I need help cause if both have wifi it should be free! We want to know! Please let me know! thanks! I am ready to blow up here LOL!

All FaceTime calls are over WiFi, thus they are "free", unless you're using a WiFi hotspot that charges for its use.

Need help with rebuilding and iPhoto folder

I'm new to this Apple support thing, but sort of desperate. I was an idiot and renamed some photographs in the iPhoto folder that is accessed from Finder.
**(side note: it would be nice if there was something with iPhoto that informed users this is a bad idea. I didn't like the number format used in the iPhoto finder folder, and found it hard to find anything when trying to upload something to the internet, so I tried to change this- using actual iPhoto first, which didn't work- and have now discovered the consequences the hard way.)
All of my photographs are backed up to an external hard drive, but unfortunately they are all still goofed up, as well. (I can open them in Preview, but not in iPhoto). I've gone through rebuild, which didn't work, and am now trying something suggested here, which is to rename the folder "iPhoto Library_old" and then create a new library. This is working to an extent. When I am done, a window pops up telling me that I have unreadable files and that "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
I have definitely learned from this and will never touch the folder in the future, but if anyone has any idea of how to fix this problem, I would be incredibly grateful.

That is an incredibly helpful suggestion; thank you very much! I think the unreadable files are actually thumbnails. Another post explained that iPhoto doesn't re-import thumbnails from an old library because it creates its own.
Just one last quick question- when I've uploaded pictures from my "iPhoto Library_old" folder, for each roll there are the regular pictures and identical ones (unless they've been cropped, turned, etc.) called originals, presumably because they look like the original photo did. Can I delete these originals without hurting my library?

Help restoring disk and booting from external clone

Yesterday I tried to boot from my external clone just to see if it was possible for me to do it. After going into sys prefs and clicking boot from clone restart, as the computer was restarting up it froze or couldnt complete the restart so i simply hit the power button and shut down. I then turned the computer back on and the computer booted from the internal hd but after start up ALL my apps that started with the letter a-i were deleted. luckily i had a clone to simply copy and paste the missing apps but i wanted to do a disk restore but the disk utility would not let me choose a destination. I also tried doing a disk restore using intego personal backup which also i had problems with doing. Could someone please give me help with restoring my disk? And also explain why all the apps were deleted?

The fixed 640x480 display resolution indicates that your external drive is missing the drivers for the eMac's video hardware. You can build the OS on the drive using the OS X install disc that came with the eMac, but that's a model-specific (gray label) disc that only has a full set of drivers for that particular Mac model. You really want to build the external drive's OS using a retail (black label) OS X Install disc that was released at or after the same time as the most recent Mac you need to be able to boot; retail OS X Install discs (should!) have the necessary drivers for all compatible Mac models released prior to that particular OS X disk.

My computer recently got a power surge from lighting and I had to buy a new one. I already deauthorized my computer and authorized my new one but I cant get my files on my Ipod Nano 3rd generation to upload to my new computer. I got my music files to upload but can not get my play lists to up load to Itunes or my pics to upload to my computer. I am using Vista now and don't exactly know where to find everything...that could be some of the problem. lol I would greatly appreciate any help. Thank you!

Help - Restored ipod and didn't want to.....

I don't know how I have done this but I have wiped everything from my IPOD!!! It is an Ipod photo 40GB
All my music is still in my itunes library but don't know how to get them from there back onto IPOD.
Also when attaching my IPOD, where it usually shows that it has connected my IPOD it is not showing

We had issues like that at my work and we used Gmail. When we used IE 8 a message would pop up saying your browser is old upgrade to a more modern browser. SO we switched our standard from IE to chrome but I still have a couple of apps that require IE.

I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

E Mac I cant see any videos in sites like Youtube. I have versions 10 in the application folder and Mac version 7.6 in the utilities folder. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

*** may have found a fix ? *** Thanks to your post re: GDI objects I checked task manager ( added column "GDI objects")and saw 700+ whereas working 6.18 was 160 ish Got thinking - what could possibly use that many GDI objects ( firefox only uses a few hundred and it's a platform ) Then it hit me - emoticons ! So in tools/ options/ IM&SMS/ IM Appearance unchecked "show emoticons"and also unchecked "show images and other media previews"restarted Skype and GDI objects now only 164 ( down from 729 )and all other windows are repainting fine and are usable again( my problem was RDP sessions that became unusable, as I work remotely ) To be sure, have rechecked the options and restarted skype and see 700+GDI objects ( goes up from 660 when place call to echo/sound test )and removed them again to get only 164have also rebooted a few times and gone through the whole processof unchecking emoticons, restart, rechecking emoticons, restart to make sure itsnot a fluke. pretty sure this has fixed it for me ( so I now have a working 7.6.0.105 on XP SP3 ),and as your problem "sounds" the same I hope it also works for you. I have a iMac, Yosemite 10.10 and my toshiba external hard drive is not being recognized, except when I eject it!. I have the preferences checked to show icons and have looked in the utilities folder..nothing. I have also changed ports. ??

A few things to try:
1-Repair permissions and restart your computer.
2-Zap the PRAM
3-Use Software Update/App Store to update your OS to OS 10.10.3. Also, update everything SU/AS has to offer for your computer. When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.
