HELP!!!  --- Runtime in Linux?

We have a code that was supposed to execute an executable file. It uses the Runtime class. But it does not run on Linux though..help? :(

If it tries to start a Windows executable then ofcourse it will not work on Linux. Unless you have luck with the windows emulator...

  • Java Help Exception in Linux

    Hi all, I have a piece of code that initializes Java help on windows perfectly but the same code causes an exception in Linux. below is the exception I am getting in Linux. because of this, the applications help is not appearing in Linux. Does anybody know why this happens only in Linux / has come across this or a fix for this earlier?
    Also I am working on Linux for the first time and I noticed that when i gave a couple of System.outs in the code to find out what was happening, they appeared allright in windows, but did not appear in Linux !! (then even the exception below disappeared, and that did not load help either !!)

    An answer to this will be highly appreciated...

    At present I am not sure if I can post code. I am trying to find that out. However, can u tell me what u mean by a Windows - window? I will try to figure that out...

  • Displaying Icons in 10g runtime (On Linux RHEL 5)

    Hi, I've read several threads on here about displaying Icons in 10g runtime.
    Currently, I am able to get the Icons to work on my localhost Windows machine and the icons display fine.
    However, my icons are not displaying when I copy them over to the Linux machine. My forms compile correctly. I've made sure they were case-sensitive.
    I modified the Registry.dat file to point to the path where I so tried the icons (in my case, /home/OraHome_1/yb/ico, where I've put all my icons in a file called icons.jar).
    I also modified the default.env file to point the CLASSPATH to this directory as well.
    Am I missing something on Linux, because this works on Windows.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    I do not remember making changes to the CLASSPATH, either way it would be good that you double check your steps against the metalink note 232413.1 - How to Deploy Iconic Images via a JAR File in Forms 9i/10g.
    As a reference, you can also take a look at this thread icons not displaying in oracle forms.

  • How can I install ADF runtime in Linux 6.3

    When I was installing the ADF runtime 11.1.1.6 in Oracle Linux 6.3. I got error at prerequisite check step due to the version of linux. I could still continue to install, but I am not sure if there will be any problem or not. How can I make the prerequisite check continue without the Linux version issue? Thanks.

  • Runtime Environment + Linux + the "find" command

    Hi everybody,
    I want to write a small program which makes it easy for me to use the find command with Linux. I have experience with Java but I have never used the runtime environment before. I am not sure how to best execute the "find" command. I tried this:
        public static void main(String[] args)
            String command = "find -name \"*\"";
            execute(command);
        private static void execute(String p_command)
            // Show the executed command.
            System.out.println(p_command);
            // Get the runtime object and handle the command.
            Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
            try
                // Execute the command.
                Process proc = rt.exec(p_command);
                // Show the output of the command.
                InputStream stdin = proc.getInputStream();
                InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(stdin);
                BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
                String line = null;
                System.out.println("<OUTPUT>");
                while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null) System.out.println(line);
                System.out.println("</OUTPUT>");
                // Show the exit value of the process.
                int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
                System.out.println("Process exitValue: " + exitVal);
            catch (Exception e)
                System.out.println("Could not excecute: " + p_command);
        }This piece of code returns this:
    find -name "*"
    <OUTPUT>
    </OUTPUT>
    Process exitValue: 0This is not correct, because it should return something like this:
    [jethro@laptop FindNix]$ find -name "*"
    ./nbproject
    ./nbproject/project.xml
    ./nbproject/project.properties
    ./nbproject/private
    ./nbproject/private/private.properties
    ./nbproject/build-impl.xml

    ./test
    ./manifest.mf
    ./build
    ./build/classes
    ./build/classes/findnix
    ./build/classes/findnix/Main.classDoes anybody know what I am doing wrong?
    Best regards,
    Jethro Borsje

    It looks like you doing all correctly. I don't know what does Runtime.exec() do with passed arguments, but if specify command in following way:
    String command = "find -name *";
    'find' executed through Runtime.exec() behaves as if it was executed from command line with arguments -name "*".

  • Need help with arch linux install!

    Hello, let me start off by telling you about the predicament I'm in at the moment. I've been trying to install arch linux on with a cd-drive that has been failing for a little over a year now, so you can already see where my problem starts!  The cd-drive, however will work with such cd's as Windows, Ubuntu, and Slackware, which I'm happy with. Yet, archlinux doesn't work so much.
    And now maybe my solution. I've got a usb cd drive, that I've had laying around that works well, just not well enough for my bios to be able to boot from; which is horrible I know. I've searched the bios for loading a usb cd drive and everything else, including google so I don't think I'm going to get anywhere with that one. Anyways what I'm thinking of doing is that when archlinux is in the terminal right before you type the "/arch/setup" command, I would like to know if there is any command that allows you to change the cd it boots the cd from to go right into the installation. I'm still working on easying my out of the newbie stage of linux at the moment, but I've never run into a command like that, that would help me out. Hopefully there is one though, because I would very much like to archlinux to work, so please respond! Right now I'm running elinks through the terminal right before you type "/arch/setup". Thanks!

    loosec wrote:
    So you get through the boot process just fine then on your old CD drive. The only thing you should have to do after that is to throw your CD into the USB CD drive and proceed with the installation. The installer should then ask you what CD drive you would like to use when you choose install from CD.
    Another way to do it would be to switch cd like above and then manually mount your /dev/[your_usb_cd_here] on /src. The installer then has to be pointed to this place as the source of your installation. To find out what your usb cd drive is called you should unplug it, then replug it and run: dmesg
    The mount command might also need to be shown that this is a cd so:
    mount -t iso9660 /dev/[usb_cd_device_name] /src
    should do the trick.
    If you really want to learn more of what the installer does (and fail installing a few times) you should also check out the command
    /arch/quickinstall
    If your Internet connection is up for it, it seems like you could just choose an FTP install instead.
    Goodluck!
    Once the CD is removed from the drive that it was booted from. the installation will not continue, as the arch install always goes back to the boot drive to continue read the neccessary information for the install. I do not think there is a way to fool the computer into booting from one cd drive and then continueing on with another. To do this you would have to tell the computer that you are switching drives.
    If you can boot up the CD kernel and get to where you type in /arch/setup then the next thing I would od is FTP install. That would limit your CD rom drie usage.
    There is also a way to install arch from within another distro, EVEN ANOTHER LIVECD! <-- this may be your best bet. Check the wiki, there is tons of information there.

  • Odd string algorithm (string is for Runtime for linux/unix browser popup)

    I was given this code snippet from this forum in an attempt to popup a web brower in linux/unix operating systems. It doesn't work.
    I have never seen the part of code in bold (the for loop) below, so I can't really make sense of it (the '?' and ':' are new operators to me). When I print the StringBuffer, I show some memory addresses, so I suspect the bold code to be the problem (perhaps needs to specify array indexes?).
    If anyone can either decipher the bold code for me or offer a solution that would work, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks!
    static boolean showInBrowser(String url)
        String os = System.getProperty("os.name").toLowerCase();
        Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
        try
                if (os.indexOf( "nix") >=0 || os.indexOf( "nux") >=0)
                  String[] browsers = {"epiphany", "firefox", "mozilla", "konqueror",
                      "netscape","opera","links","lynx"};
                  StringBuffer cmd = new StringBuffer();
    for (int i=0; i<browsers.length; i++)
    cmd.append( (i==0 ? "" : " || " ) + browsers +" \"" + url + "\" ");
                  rt.exec(new String[] { "sh", "-c", cmd.toString() });
                  //System.out.println(cmd.toString());
               else
                 return false;
        catch (IOException e)
            e.printStackTrace();
            return false;
        return true;
    }

    ?: is like an if-else operator: i==0?foo:bar is
    if(i==0) value_of_expression = foo else value_of_expression = bar.
    You probably get memory addresses because in the loop "browsers" should really be browsers
    Plain "browsers" just keeps giving you the memory address of the array (or if you want to get nitpicky the hash code which is not really the address.)
