  • Help with multiple AP network setup

I am in need of a little help setting up my network again. I have a AP extreme2, AP extreme 1 and two AP expresses. The house I am in is wired with CAD 5 to each room. I have a Linksys Etherfast Router (BEFSR81, this is the 8 port version of the one that is certified to work with Back to my mac). I have two desktop macs (G4 and G5)without wireless as well as a MBPro.
I have had this all working as a WDS using the airports in bridge mode and was able to control Airtunes from any computer in the house, share files and use screen sharing without trouble. The problem is that back to my mac would not work with this set up because NAT was not switched on. How should I configure each of the Airports to be able to use Back to my mac, file sharing and airtunes for each computer in the house?
The basic set up I have is as follows:
    1. Linkys router receiving input from cable modem (cox cable) and passing to LAN to distribute to each room of the house.
    2. AP extreme 2 in office with G4/G5, airdisk attached.
    3. AP extreme 1 in bed room
    4. AP express in living room
    5. AP express in den
In order to use the back to my mac feature of 10.5 I believe I need to select "Share a single IP address" in the Airport utility but what do I need to do after that? I am at a loss with IP addressing and such.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the Mac wired - it does not have wireless capability, and as it is sitting right next to the router I just want to hook it up with Ethernet cable. The wireless function is just for the PCs I have downstairs.
I am not sure what non-broadcast SSID means, but I think that has to do with the wireless portion of the network, right? I do have a SSID name set up, and WEP encryption so that only the PCs I own can connect to the wireless network, not anyone else's computers. But on the wired PC I have connected directly to the router, I do not have to input any of the security settings. I've even set the router to recognize the MAC addresses of all my computers, including the Mac.
What brand and model of router are you using successfully with Macs & PCs? The store I bought my router from is willing to give me a full refund if I can't get it to work - perhaps I would have better luck with the type of router you're using.

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • Newb needs help w small office network setup

Just started a new job at small start-up company that needs their 6-7 macs and a couple of printers networked. I'm just a designer and I'm trying to help but I'm not familiar with osX networking and I hope someone could point me in the right direction. Currently the owner has DSL on all the computers so there is an ethernet cable in each one to a router or hub i believe.
Currently when I try to connect via Go menu to Connect to server, there is no list. If I type in the name of one of the other computers and try to connect I get:
"Connection failed. The server may not exist of it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."
I don't really know where to start or what questions to ask but I hope having an ethernet cable system already in place is a good thing.
    Your help appreciated

I'm starting out with 2 computers near me, G4 HOMER
and G4 MINI. Both are connecting to the net via
ethernet. Personal File Sharing is ON on both.
On G4 MINI, I can see G4 HOMER, but when trying to
connect (Go>Connect to server>G4 HOMER) get
"ConnectionFailed -Server may not exist or is not
    operational"
when connecting ot the server try using G4-HOMER.local as the server address.

  • Need help maximizing my Apple network reach

I've been reading through the discussions here for a while now looking for a similar issue to mine and haven't quite found it so I'm hoping the knowledgable people here may be able to help.
I have a somewhat complex/convoluted setup that I'm hoping to simplify.
My ISP (Fios) router is located in the back corner of my basement. Attached to that is a 48 port (Netgear) switch which sends hardwired ethernet cables throughout my entire house.
The Fios router does have a wireless network which covers most of my basement but not well as the signal coming out of the boiler room is quite weak.
On the main floor I have an Apple Time Capsule which is hardwired from the Netgear switch. This provides a wireless network for most of the house. It's set to "create a wireless network" and is in "bridge mode" (this wireless netowrk has a different name from the one the Fios router creates)
The signal from that TC does not reach all of the main floor and is weak upstairs as well so I have an Airport Express hardwired (from the Netgear switch) which also "creates a wireless network" in "bridge mode". This is a 3rd wireless network from the other (TC and Fios router).
When i 1st got the Express, I tried to use it to "extend" my main floor network but was unsuccessful in doing so. The signal was too weak to reach the location i need to have it in. Also, I thought I was giving away too much in terms of speed by not taking advantage of the fact that I can have the AE hardwired.
I'd love to have a single wireless network throughout the house which would aid in controlling my devices (we have 3 appleTvs througout the house which are also hardwired) and would allow me to access my wireless printer from anywhere (currently only accessable when I'm on the main floor network).
I'm up for buying another AE (for 99 bucks it's totally worth it) and relocating basestations.
I'm thinking I need a roaming network but because my switch which provides ethernet cable to my house comes off the Fios router, I won't be able to set one up. If this is the case, can I put a new Express (or TC) in line after the Fios router but before the switch to then have an Apple device essentially servicing the ethernet?
Am I missing some other aspect that may make this easier?

    I'm thinking I need a roaming network
I agree, and you're 99% of the way there already. All that remains for you to address is this:
(this wireless netowrk has a different name from the one the Fios router creates)
Fix it: provide the exact same network name and security settings for each network created by your Time Capsule and Express (as well as any future Expresses you may want to add). Your devices will "see" one and only one network, despite that there are in fact three separate networks created by those three devices. Make absolutely certain their network names and security are precisely the same. If necessary, temporarily use a simple network name until you confirm that everything works the way you require.
Clients of your wireless network will more or less seamlessly drop connections as they move from an area with a relatively weak signal and connect to a stronger one.
my switch which provides ethernet cable to my house comes off the Fios router,
That is actually the correct way to do it: FiOS > router > 48 port switch > all your wired devices, including Time Capsule and Expresses, each configured as bridges.
Given the fact that your FiOS wireless router is in a basement boiler room (a common location for such equipment, yet it's hard to imagine a worse one) its wireless range is bound to be poor. You may wish to disable its wireless completely, for simplification as well as to eliminate its possible contribution to wireless interference.

  • Help setting up wireless network with Verizon DSL

I bought a MacBook Pro and an Air Port Extreme yesterday. I have an iMAC G5 from October 2004. I have Verizon DSL service and a Westell Series 6100 modem.
Bottom line --> I can't get the wireless connection to work.
I have successfully used a wired dsl connection with my iMAC G5. But, I tried to just disconnect the ethernet cable from my computer and put it into the Airport Extreme and that didn't work. I used the utility to set up the base station and the network, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.
I know a PPPoE is involved but I'm not sure of how to configure the system properly. I'm also not sure if the problem is with the configuration of the AirPort extreme or with my Verizon modem.
All I know is that I want to see a green light on that thing and not a flashing orange one.
Does any one have some instructions for setting up your AirPort Extreme using Verizon DSL? Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks in advance!
    MacBook Pro & iMAC G%   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Just finished solving this problem. I am not a strong tech guy, but I know that since it works for others it is just a question of poking and pushing. Anyway it was nine hours in the making...
My snow airport working with an airport express had been bullet proof with verizon dsl for a couple of years. I wanted to upgrade since I am now Intel mac and hit the blinking amber light.
I am only going to be able to give the big picture... The AEBS found and worked with all my computers from the beginning, so the problem became that the default IP Address and Subnet Mask were wrong and never automatically adjusted by the assistants.
Take your working plug-in ethernet connections or the working snow connections from the Airport Utility Internet Connect page. I used the manual configure process to access the info screens.
I copied all the numbers down, but I believe you only have to insert the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS servers. I put "dsl.verizon.net" in the domain search box.
Go up to the IPv4 pull down menu and select manual and put in the numbers you copied. Then click Update. When the software returns control, the AEBS will still be orange.
Toggle the IPv4 to "using DHCP" Click Update.
This should bring the green light.
I think I then updated the Network Preference Pane, probably had to manually put in my wireless password again. Browser and mail program worked.
I think that was all. I may have had to repeat the toggle to make it stick, but I am operational for the last several hours, including the airport express, a G4 laptop and a Sony PC.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need help setting up a network with new Airport Extreme

Hey All I need some help. Networks, Wan, WPA it's all greek to me. Here's what I am trying to do, I have a newer imac, an ipod touch, a apple TV and the kids have a laptop running on Vista. I have a DSL internet connection through Verizon with a Westell VersaLink Model 327W router. I disabled the wireless option on the versalink and hooked the Ethernet cable from the versalink to my Airport extreme. I am trying to figure out how to set things up so I can restrict the kids laptop from the internet after say 9pm but allow everything else unlimited access. I've read other posts and the manual but can't figure it out. When I turn the Airport off Bridge mode i get a bunch of errors re DHCP beginning and ending addresses and have no clue how to set this up. Before I spend hours on the phone with tech support I figured someone out there may be able to help. This can't be to difficult or is it?

    rmunoz274 wrote:
I had to call Verizon and spend an hour on the phone, my Versalink is about 3 years old and I never updated it. There is a software update which makes it a little more mac friendly. Cables still run through it on the Ethernet port. I was able to turn the wireless feature off on the Versalink (to stop my neighbors and kids from bypassing the APE and just factory reset the APE and set it up with a shared IP adrs instead of bridging it. Also made sure I turned off the guest network on the APE. Once it was set up I clicked on Airport in the Airport Utility then wireless Clinets, jotted down the client I wanted to restrict access to (Kid's Laptop) then go back to Airport screen, last option on right Access then MAC Adrs Access Control change to "Timed Access", then click the + on the bottom of the window, type the MAC adrs you want to restrict and set time limits, when complete click done..... Only took me a week and a half to figure it out...... Good luck, if that doesn't help let me know, but I'm no expert...
    thanks!!
i think i have the most recent 327w update, because it now shows my modem screen in a red color and it is broken into 3 sections across the screen.
as far as the AEBS is concerned, you did not use it in bridge mode at all?
i thought you had to connect 1 cable from it to the 327w? I have about 5 items i will be connecting, so i will probably run any wired from the AESB, but not sure yet?
thanks, and yaeh last time my network took me a bit of time as well!!
what kind of encryption are you running?
    thanks

  • Help "unable to load network list"?

After updating my iphone 3gs to ios 4.3.3 my phone's cellular serice does'nt work anymore, when I go to Setting>Carrier it say's "Unable to load network list". But anything else works fine.
Please guysss if someone knows how to fix this please let me know..

Sorry not sure why your new sim card isn't supported...not sure if it helps but I had my laptop connected to wifi at the time also, but I don't think it should matter. Its worth a try connecting to internet with ITunes on, connect your phone and then turn it on and see what happens.

  • Help with small wired network?

My office has 7 iMacs and 3 MacBooks using ethernet cables to connect via a hub. I'm trying to establish a wired network between these, so as to allow full browsing and read/write access among them while preventing access to any computer not physically connected.
I understand I can set the home folders to shared, but a few problems present:
    1. This seems to establish wireless sharing, whereas we need a wired-only network.
    2. I understand how to share between accounts on a single computer, say, accounts A and B on computer X. But how to add permissions for accounts on other computers (e.g. account Y on computer Z)?

Yep, I realize that, and it's where I'm stuck at. I'm only seeing two possibilities, neither of which is helpful...
    A. allow permissions for "Users & Groups" on the same computer, which ignores the goal of networking users from other computers.
    B. allow "Everyone" with a wireless connection, which ignores the goal of creating a network between only the office computers.
So the Receptionist computer wants to allow access to users from the Front Office computer, Technicians computer, and Back Office computer. Back office wants to allow users from the Technicians computer, Front Office computer, and so forth.
But for example, all I can figure out now is how to allow users on the Receptionist computer to allow other users on the Receptionist computer, or else to allow all users from any computer with a wireless connection...

  • Help Creating a Roaming Network w Sonos

    Hi all,
I have a networked 2 story and 1 separated cabana room.  The smart panel DAS doesnt work - so I have the Comcast cable modem with 100 Mbps Service in the smart panel (SP) connected to a Netgear Bridge, and the networked cables to the rooms I need connected to the bridge.
    Here is my current configuration:
    SP to Netgear Bridge
4 Network Cables from Bridge to: Master Bedroom (Airport Extreme N as my base), Office, Living Room, Cabana Room (Cabana room is 60 ft away from main apartment, and 60 ft, 1 floor below, and 1 60 x 20 patio away from AEBS)
19 WiFi devices actively on network
Sonos system running off Mac Mini in Office off WiFi from AEBS, Speaker in Living Room and Speaker in Cabana Room
Cabana Room speaker disconnects frequently from Sonos as the WiFi seems to get lost traveling across the 60 x 20 patio
No internet in Cabana Room - which is a critical issue as I commonly work out there and PS3 is there
I tried to setup a completely separate network - but there are 2 issues with that....I commonly dropped my connection because one or the other would be stronger and it just wasnt working...the second is the Sonos speakers need to be on the same network.  I have tried extending the network - but the signal ***** and cant hold a VPN connection, much less even attempt to play PS3.  I have connected the network in the wall to the Airport Express and used the same network name - and I lost all connectivity for 24 hours and somehow completely disabled my Comcast phone service forever - I am assuming because of conflicting IP addresses/NAT issues.
I have 2 Netgear Powerline adapters and an Airport Express in my arsenal.  Because the networked rooms are not coming from the AEBS, but from the bridge in the SP - I am guessing that if I use the powerline adapters (one from AEBS) to run a network cable to the Airport Express might be the way to go - but before I muff anything up again and have to create a whole new network - I would like advice.
Confused yet?   Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Need help planning wireless home network and selecting hardware

I run a music teaching business from home and currently I just have an iMac, an HDTV, a printer and an external HD (for Time Machine backups). My computer and peripherals are in a small study and my TV is in the front room where I now teach. I want to set up a wireless network which will let me do the following:
    1) Access either my iMac's HD and/or my external drive's HD to retrieve and display documents and run applications from the front room, where my TV is located.
    2) Use my HDTV as an extension of my iMac so that what happens on my iMac displays on my TV, including accessing the printer and other input devices that may be attached.
What hardware will I need for this besides an Aiport (Extreme?) base station, and how would I hook everything up wirelessly, specifically my TV? If I connect Apple TV to my TV via HDMi will I be able to do what I've stated above, and access my applications as well as music and photos? If not, what's the alternative? A Mac Mini connected via HDMi? Won't that make my iMac's HD redundant to the above scenario?
Hope someone can help me sort this out.

    Hi there,
It sounds like what you want to do is basically use your HDTV as a monitor for your computer. Devices like AppleTV will not run apps nor show the screen of other computers; for that you need some kind of VNC software (either free or something like Back to my Mac) AND a second computer hooked up to the HDTV. So you're looking at a Mac Mini and an Airport network to connect the two, then a wireless mouse and keyboard to control it. And even then, you may want to just open documents on the mini so you'll need to have a system of syncing between the two Macs if you need to access the same docs on the iMac later.
If you don't want a second Mac then you could use a mini display port to HDMi adapter and a really long HDMI run up to your HDTV, and then hope that a Bluetooth keyboard would still be in range to control the iMac (30 ft or less I believe). That's cheaper, but you have the long cable to contend with.

  • Need help in Validation of Network no.

Hello, I am doing one enhancement. The report is for Post Travel and Living (T/L))Expense to G/L.
Right now there are two scenarios. In first, Interface can book the expense in natural account (travel/meal etc.)to the cost center.
In other scenario, it books a credit to a cost center in a separate account and debits the network on a billable T & L account.
In the event if the network is invalid I have to handle the error.
I need the help from experts. How can network be valid or invalid? Is it any FM for it or Table for it?
    Thanking in anticipation.
    Warm Regards,
    Harish

    Hi,
I guess that you are talking about netwrok from PS module. In that case you can use BAPI BAPI_NETWORK_EXISTENCECHECK to check if network exists.

    Hello,
EXCLUDE=SCHEMA:"IN ('SYS','SYSTEM','OUTLN','PS','SYSADM','DBSNMP','PEOPLE','DIP','ORACLE_OCM','CSMIG','PSMON','PERFSTAT'"It seems that it lacks the right parenthesis on the above syntax.
According to the Note *1133013.1* of My Oracle Support, a wrong syntax of the EXCLUDE parameter may cause the error ORA-39126: Worker unexpected fatal error in KUPW$WORKER.GET_TABLE_DATA_OBJECTS* if you use IMPDB with a Network Link.
So you may correct the EXCLUDE parameter and try again.
    Hope this help.

  • Help Needed Created Standalone Network for iTunes DJ

I use my MBP to manage backing tracks for a band. I would like to use iTunes DJ for requests from the audience via wireless connection via *iPhone/iPod Touch Remote app*. I would use this option in conjunction with a printed song list and small request cards (for those who don't have iPhones).
I can't connect to an existing network as most venues do not have wireless. I would like to set up my MBP as a wireless base station that can be accessed via an iPhone/iPod Remote app. Besides, I would prefer to have a network that echo's the band's name.
I know I have to use the "*Create computer-to-computer Networks*", but I am unsure of what settings I need to get the network working.
I will use Locations to quickly activate the MBP as the base station.
Any help or suggestion setting up my MBP as a wireless base station would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA

Agreed. I'd keep at it yourself. I guarantee it will be something simple.
what are the benefits of a switcher? (never used one before) any recomends?
A switch is just like a hub, except that instead of always sending packets to your entire network, it only sends them where they need to go. The benefits grow with the size and speed of your network. Switches used to be much more expensive than hubs but not any more. Normally I'd recommend almost any Linksys device, but in this case dlink seems to have a better one:
    http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DGS-2205-5-port-Desktop-Switch/dp/B000FIVDIA
Again, I don't think your dlink hub is responsible for this dramatic bottleneck though.
