Help w macbook 10.6.8 bought new battery A1185 not working

I need help! I bought my macbook in early 2009 and my battery stopped working about 2 years ago and in the meantime I updated the system to Snow Leopard so now it is Mac OS X version 10.6.8. I bought online a genuine apple battery model A1185 (i pulled out the original battery and that was the model number) . Now i have put in the new battery but my computer doesnt recognise that its there and has a X in the battery symbol on the top of the screen. The power cord is a green colour except for when i turn it off and then it turns orange. So I left the battery in and the cord connected overnight while it was turned off with the orange light on thinking that the new battery must be charging but today when i checked it (over 12 hours later) the battery symbol still shows an X and when i disconnect the power cord the computer loses all power indicating that it is not registered that there is a battery there.
Also when I remove the new battery and press the small button only one of the five green lights, light up. I also have been browsing this issue online and saw some reference to the old macbook battery not working with the new system 10.6 so i did a software update but still not working. Any help greatly appreciated!

  • Installed new battery. Not working right?!?!

I bought a battery from battery plus for my Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011. I installed it and it wouldn't turn on. So I figured it just wasn't charged, I plugged in the charger and it turned on. Great!! Not really. I noticed the battery symbol in the status bar has a "X" in it and when I unplug the charger the mac shuts off. Don't know why, so I'm here for help.

I would be concerned that the battery is NOT an Apple approved battery, and that is why it is not functioning properly.  You should take the computer to an Apple Retail store, have the genius look at it, and possibly try the proper battery.
    Good Luck.

  • New battery is not working on Satellite C855-29N

    I purchased a battery.
I've put it in to the laptop and the battery light is just flashing orange.
I tried removing the ac adaptor and battery and holding down the power butter for 30-40 seconds before putting the new battery back in again, plugging in the ac and pressing the power button but nothing is happening. It just carries on blinking orange.
I did a comparison against the batteries and both have the same numbers and codes.
    I just don't understand why it won't work :(
    Please help!!

Even if there was a right part number, I guess you purchased some kind of cheap china battery and probably the new part isnt good.
Therefore I have no other solution for you as to replace the battery once again and to purchase genuine battery for this Toshiba notebook.

  • New Battery Still not working

So about a week ago my laptop (a bit over a year old) randomly died. I found out through friends that it was the battery. When I plugged my laptop in, it would work, but took several tries to actually turn on. When it was on, the battery icon read 0%. Today I went to MicroCenter to buy a new battery. Now the icon does read that it is charging, but the power cord is on orange except for the initial moment when I turn the laptop on. Also, it won't turn on unless it is plugged in, which is a problem for me. Once turned on, it will stay on though. Help?

you can try reseting the SMC -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?locale=en_US
Other than that, if you still have the old battery, bring both the old and new battery and your pwr adapter(along with your laptop) to an Apple Store or your local service provider : http://www.apple.com/buy/locator/service/
and have them run a battery/adapter test (I can't speak for apple, but most service providers will run this test for free)

According to Roaring Apps, there is a version of Protools compatible with Lion.  But you may need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to buy either Lion or ML on MAS.   It looks like you need to get up-to-date with your OS and the apps too.

  • New Itunes is not working because my imac is 10.6.8 need help ?

New Itunes is not working because my imac is 10.6.8 need help ....

Because you require Lion to run it. You should not have installed it.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.

                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

Take it to an Apple Genius Bar to be checked out. It will either be the battery or the Logic board (not sure the charging circuit is a separate part. If it is then it mya be just that part).
If logic board just use it plugged in as for the cost of changing out the logic board you can buy a new system.

you mentioned that Terminal does not work at all for your MacBook Pro. What currently happens when you run Terminal? In what way does it not work?

Sometimes you have to reset the SMC two or three times for it to work, don't know why. I've seen that error message before and 100% of the time it was fixed with an SMC reset. I suppose it's possible that your keyboard or mouse IS drawing too much power, do you have access to another you could try?

  • Bought new battery how should I prepare it

I have bought new battery for my Dual USB iBook as a back-up when travelling and as a replacement for the original battery when it eventually dies.
What is the best way to prepare it ? What process is best ? Eg plug in and charge for how long? Then fully discharge it and recharge again?
Should I continually swap them over?
How long will a battery (say the new one) hold a charge without being inserted into the computer?
The older battery is holding its charge less and less.

  • Need Help with iMac 350 - Won't boot - keyboard or mouse not working!

    Hello,
I've scoured the web looking for answers, and can't find any, so maybe someone here would be kind enough to help. I'm working on an imac 350 blueberry for my sister and I'm having all sorts of trouble.
She bought it last week, it started up (8.6 os) no problem. Powered up and down a few times, then all of a sudden, it won't boot. I'm currently getting blinking folder/happymac/question mark when trying to start up.
Here's the big problem - the keyboard and mouse do not work now. I've tried three different mice and three keyboards and no dice with any of them. I have the 8.6 CD from her previous imac (bondi), and I can hear it spinning, but there is no way to start up from cd.
I've also tried 2 other hard drives with the same results.
Tried resetting CUDA on logic board, taking out battery, no change. Bought new battery- no change.
I would love to at least get the keyboard working to see if I can even startup from cd, anyone have any clues on how to get it working? The strange thing is that the keyboard has a power on button, and it works to start the thing up, but dies when it tries to boot. Sometimes I just get a grey screen with the pointer icon, and I can move the pointer with the mouse for a second or two, then no response.
I appreciate any help or suggestions on locating the issues!
    Thank you!

When I said "but dies when it tries to boot" and "..then no response." I meant that the keyboard works to power up the computer, but won't work for anything else. So, I am figuring that the usb ports are supplying power to the keyboard and mouse, but the usb ports aren't relaying information from the keyboard or mouse.
How do you know the mouse isn't working? Won't you have to wait until later in the boot to tell?
The poweron key is a special case. I think that it works by lowering/changing the voltage on one of the usb cables. I read about this somewhere. Anyway, this function was eliminated from later usb keyboards and macs. Maybe a working power button doesn't mean what you think.
I would love to boot into open firmware
Could you try powering up from the machine? Is there a power button on the lower right of the machine?
Have you tried this key combo?
    commandoption+of
The letters are in lower case. Hold all down then poweron the machine. I'd poweron from the machine as apposed to the keyboard.
You could try another usb keyboard.
We actually did boot up the computer several times with it upside down. Not for any reason, except it's become a real PIA to flip it over every two minutes to start it, then take it apart and boot again. When booting either upside down or right side up it shows the same thing - blinking folder w/finder icon and question mark.
Yes, I agree. You could try removing the clear plastic around the bottom of the machine. At least you will not have to slide in the carriage. Note. The tv portion will still be surrounded by plastic! Don't remove the plastic around the tv!
Hope I am not interfering with Richard and his comments.
Richard: Is this the orginal keyboard? When did Apple get rid of the poweron key from the keyboard? My iMac 600 didn't have the key and my iMac 233 does.

  • 9800 new battery doesn't work

    hello
I bought a new battery for my torch, cause the old one draines very quickly. so the new battery doesn't work, it has an X and the OS doesn't load. I've reinstaled 3 times the OS so it's not this problem. also I've charged the battery 1 day, with blackberry original charger.
I've tried every step I found on forums but with nou luck
    any help please..
the battery it's new, it's the same as the original one, I don't know if it's original 100% but it's the same as the one I had before.

I have been having the exact same problem.  I replaced my battery and it still drains really quickly; 3 hours after a full charge and no use and the battery's drained.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
If the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you should investigate more harsh remedies...WIPE, OS Reload, OS Update, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, "Bare Bones" diagnostic reload process, etc.
Good luck and let us know!
