HELP! WinXP Clean Install Problems

I want to reformat my computer for the new school quarter but i run a raid configuration with my NEO2 6728 built in promise controller.  Everything works fine but i forgot to bring my driver diskette to be used in the F6 portion of the WINXP intallation.  I also dont have the driver cd that came with the motherboard (its with the promise driver diskette).  If anyone could tell me how to create my own diskette or download the files somewhere, I would appreciate it.  
Its the Promise 20378 S-ATA RAID/Ultra Drivers that come bundled with the neo2

  • Clean install problem

    OK I've got a problem.
    Short story-
    I tried doing a clean install of 9.2.2 as the first stage of an OSX upgrade. It was a disaster so.... I had kept a copy of the old System Folder. I moved the new system folder to a second drive and successfully booted using the old system folder.
    Everything is working OK except that I get generic icons for some things on Drive 1 (boot drive) and can not rebuild the desktop! The bar goes across about 1/4 or less of the way and the system hangs. I tried this booting off of my Norton CD and I can rebuild disk 2 but not disk 1.
    Longer story.
    I triesd a clean install using a program called "clean-install assistant". Everything seemed to go per instructions. I loaded 9.1 and then did the two upgrades to get to 9.2 and 9.2.2. I had the upgrades on a CD.
    When I reloaded the system items that the assistant had saved, the system would load up through display of extention icons and then hung.
    So I moved the new system file off to Disk 2, renamed the System file copy as "System Folder" and chose it as the startup system.
    All is OK except for the item noted. My word documents, for example, have lost sight of their author although I can open them from Word.
    As I am booting from an unmessed with System Folder I'm not sure what to do.
    HELP!!

    Well it's still sort of a mystery to me, but I'm back to normal.
    I asked Norton again to repair on startup. I did a reboot from the front panel switch and on start up the Apple disk repair window really went to work. (I could hear the disk hard at work!)
    It fixed it.
    So much for a clean install. I think I'll now try OSX on Disc #2 as I think I can then boot off either if I have a major problem.

  • Windows 7 x64 Clean Install Problems

    I have a Lenovo V570 - IdeaPad Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor.  A week ago, my computer crashed because of an OS problem.  I bought a new version of Windows Home Premium x64, and these problems are still active, five days after clean installing Windows:
    When I click "Shut Down" on the start menu, it goes through, Logging Off..., Shutting Down..., and then it stays at a black screen, with the power button on the keyboard still lit up.  This also happens when I leave my laptop on, and it goes to "Sleep".  I have to force restart the laptop by holding down the Power button, and then the computer alerts me that Windows was shut down improperly, option to go into Safe Mode, etc.  I start normally.
    I used to be able to zoom in and out by putting both fingers on the touchpad, and scrolling one finger to the left or right.  This function no longer works.
    My driver for "Network Controller" is missing, and I can't find it anywhere.  I have to use an external wireless adapter to connect to the internet.  I have a built-in wireless adapter, I guess it's the Network Controller, but it isn't working, probably because of the missing driver.

  • Yosemite Clean Install Problems

    Hi,
    I have recently tried to do a clean install of the Yosemite OS but the install was unsuccessful and I have had nothing but trouble since. If you have any ideas on how to fix my problem, I'd be very grateful. Perhaps you have or have had the same problem and have some other ideas on how to fix it.
    (Note: Recently I have not used TimeMachine as it kept on corrupting my external HD, so I have backed my files up manually on another volume but no previous OS backup to revert to)
    This is what I've done:
    Attempt 1: Bootable USB
    I created a bootable USB of Yosemite (via Terminal etc.). I was able to install Yosemite and it restarted. On restart, it continued to install the other system files, but suddenly stopped as it "could not extract files from BaseSystemBinaries.pkg". I restarted the Mac and it continued to install the other system files, but after a while it came up with a message saying "couldn't attach disk image". Then I tried once again and it came up with some other error message. I went into Disk Utility, erased the disk and the Macintosh HD partition and attempted to re-install Yosemite from the USB after another restart. Despite having erased the disk, the installation went straight back to installing the excess files (I guess once you get to that point, it remembers and you can't get out of it until the process completes). Unfortunately, once again, error messages came up. (Note: USB was formatted for Mac Os X Journalled thingo)
    Attempt 2: Internet
    I removed the USB and it said I could install the extra files from the net. I entered my WIFI code, AppleID password etc and the download started. Unfortunately I do not have 293 hours to wait until the download completes, and after waiting two hours and noticing the download had another 394 hours to go, I decided this was not going to work.
    Attempt 3: Downgrade
    I hunted around in my old CDs and DVDs and found a bootable DVD of Mac OS Lion. It installed completely and I was so over the moon! I Then thought - ah, perhaps I can upgrade from Mac OS Lion to Yosemite. I copied the Yosemite Installer from the USB on to my Mac and started the install. All went well until the computer restarted and proceeded to install the excess files - once again, I had problems as the "BaseSystemBinaries.pkg" couldn't be opened.
    Attempt 4: Confused
    I figured that I would easily be able to downgrade again considering it worked last time. I did exactly the same things - erased the disk in Disk Utility etc, but for some reason, the install failed and each time I tried to restart, the Mac returned to the same place (a bar "installing Mac OS Lion) and failed shortly after.
    Thoughts
    1) How do I get the Mac to forget or erase the previous install attempt so I can attempt another fresh install. It remembers which stage of install the installer is at be it for Yosemite or Lion. It keeps returning to the same stage and fails. Even after erasing the disk and partition, and resetting the PRAM.
    2) Could my Yosemite Installer be corrupt? How on earth could it become corrupt after installing from the internet? What if I had not attempted a clean install, upgraded. I'd be in the same position and if I hadn't backed up, lost absolutely everything...

    I HAVE NOW SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED YOSEMITE.  Looks good. Everything in place, including all my menubar items. My most used app, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 works (Amen) and all it's 9 or 10 plug-ins there and work. So I'm feeling a-okay about it right now.

    TOPIC 1. HERE'S WHAT HAPPEN TO ME (Thus far):  I did NOT use a USB drive for my clean install (as osxdaily mainly suggested).
    I used an external drive I had available (250GB).
    At the last minute I recalled another item I read while browsing: INSTALL YOSEMITE ON AN EXTERNAL DRIVE (rather than just a USB flash drive) . - So that's what I did; installing it on the drive I  had prepared for the clean install. --
    There was a problem came up> The installation seemed to hang up in the way several others have mentioned (a big X and a stalled blue progress bar).
    I turned the computer off after a few hours. (another suggestion I read). Turned it back on.
    Much to my surprise, my computer booted from this external drive and there was Yosemite  -- I'm also able to access my apps and data from my built-in iMac hard drive. Some work. Some important ones give me an error message...so I need to check all that out.
    I didn't plan this, never done it before but I'm pleased. I can get to see and use Yosemite (I like it's look, features, etc. so far), can access and test what apps work and what may give me a problem and, real cool, I can simply go back to booting up from my internal hard drive and all my Mavericks stuff is there.
    TOPIC 2. WHAT I'D SUGGEST (for clean install) -- which I think is a good idea and part of this OP): Follow the osxdaily steps again (they worked for me).  DON'T LATER RESTORE YOUR DATA ET. AL. FROM TIME MACHINE. -- Instead when Yosemite is going through it's first set-up it asks various questions and give you options to select or not - In this initial Yosemite start-up, select the option that indicates it will MIGRATE YOUR DATA FROM ANOTHER MAC OR FROM TIME MACHINE.
    Thus> Don't try to Restore your info and apps from Time Machine later -- SELECT MIGRATING YOUR DATA FROM TIME MACHINE (or Mac or one of those options) during Yosemite's initial first start-up.
    Also, Big Tip, not only do the expected preparations prior to attempted installation (upgrading your OS and major apps to their latest version, running Onyx or Cocktail or something like that, and backing up Everything in some way -- but when installing DISCONNECT all unneeded USB devices and especially USB hubs -- just keeping what you need for your keyboard and mouse; this can prevent a lot of problems, I believe (maybe caused by device drivers?)
    CONCLUSION: If you get that hang up in the way several others have mentioned (a big X and a stalled blue progress bar).Turn off computer after a few hours and turn on again.
    I think this method will work: as mentioned> MIGRATE DATA DURING YOSEMITE'S FIRST RUN. -- After I test out a few more apps I'm going next to install Yosemite on my main, internal iMac hard drive: it's over 600GB of data on it.
    I hope this helps yourself (and others).

    P.S. -  Yosemite is oh-so clean...a nice 'fresh start' compared to my iMac with a year's worth of this and that all over the place. Contrary to the bad rumors and trolls I think Yosemite is a 'mild' upgrade, meaning it doesn't NOT threaten existing apps and data. -- It's real problems are with the NEW things it introduces, like Handshake and Continuity, Apple Pay, etc. -- Between start and finish it was close to 24 hours.

  • Exchange 2010 database help after clean install of exchange 2010

    Long story short. Had exchange 2010 issues. My exchange store would not open and I could not mount database. Copied v14 folder over to another folder. Removed exchange from AD, recreated my windows 2008 r2 virtual machine, Installed completely new exchange.
    It came up with new mailbox offline, which i left that way. I copied my flat files into the newly created v14 folder. When I open exchange, I see an unmounted copy of my old database. However, I am unable to do anything with it. Esutil said it was a clean
    shutdown. I am looking for the steps I need to take to get my old database back online as it has everyone's info. So exchange see's a copy of my old database, but nothing else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Your correct, I have placed myself in a Jam. the .edb file is in a clean state. I copied the whole directory over to a mapped drive. I am currently working the problem 2 ways. I have created a recoveryDB, but when I try to perform a New-MailboxRestore request
    it fails. When i do a get statistics I can see all email in the recoveryDB, but only a system file mailbox in the new database i created, none of my users. I have also tried the database portability. I can check and confirm the old database, but at the last
    step I am supposed to Get Mailbox -Database "old database", it fails to find the old database. So I am unable to run Get-Mailbox -Database "old Database" | Set-Mailbox -Database "New Database". I have set the new database to be
    overwritten. The problem arises when i try to get-mailbox -Database (old database)=   it says it cannot find database. Since I performed a clean install the old database is not in Active directory. When I open the path to the new database it is pointing
    at the .edb in the folder I created using the steps at www.exchangerecover.com/blog/2010/move-a-mailbox-database-using-database-portability.html
    Now that I totally screwed it up, I can start from the beginning if necessary. I am just hoping I do not lose the data. I would appreciate a push in the right direction. I am currently trying to touch base with an exchange admin at the local university.
    We have played phone tag so far. Microsoft support is my next option.

  • JDS Clean install problem... External user security policy?

    I have a clean install of Solaris 10.
    I'm using openldap to authenticate users.
    When I log in with root o another local user, everything works fine.
    If I log in with some ldap user, jds+gnome starts fine but the bottom edge panel (gnome-panel) doesn't start any applets, so... I don't have the Launch menu.
    It doesn't responds to right click neither.
    Any help?
    I'm very new with JDS.
    I'm using Solaris 10/08 full install with the lastest cluster patch.

    I get no answer here, but working for about 5 days I've decided to use the latest solaris 10 distribution (05/09) and it works fines.
    Didn't know what's happened but now it's working.

  • Z400 Windows7 Pro 64-bit DVD Clean Install Problem

    This is my situation:When I bought my Z400 around a year ago, it had a windows 8 (Trial only) so I clean installed it with Windows 7 32-bit several times already since then. I recently got a Windows7 64 bit installation DVD  from a friend and I discovered that my 32-bit key will work for a 64 bit of the same OS. So I did the usual format (boot from dvd drive) but it's not reading the dvd and instead still boots from the harddrive, even though DVD drive is already 1st on boot sequence. I thought the dvd drive was not working, so I tried booting from my old Windows7 32 bit installation cd. It still boots. So I was thinking this is due to the installer being 64 bit? I tried both Legacy and UEFI options in BIOS out of curiousity but the 64 bit installer is still not being read and it still goes to boot from hard drive. I consider myself just moderately familiar with these technical stuff so I might not have known if there are other things I should have fixed/changed for this to work. Please help. Thanks in advance. 

    I'll just type the BIOS here from memory since I can't take pics at the moment. BIOS for z400 looks something like this.
    START OF BOOT
    Boot Mode - LEGACY or UEFI
    Boot Priority - LEGACY or UEFI
    USB - ENABLED or DISABLED
    Boot sequence:
    Hard drive
    DVD drive
    another one here I forgot something with PXE if I'm not mistakenEND OF BOOT
    So as soon as I changed the Boot Mode to UEFI, both Boot Priority and Boot Sequence disappears. In the former area of Boot Sequence list are 2 EFIs like this:
    EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (with code numbers and hyphens here)
    EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (with code numbers and hyphens here)
    Now I don't know what EFI is, but I selected UEFI and disabled Secure Boot like you said, saved changes, and when it booted, it said like "checking for media...." then after a few seconds, it said something like "EFI Network 0 for IPv4 boot failed".
    I apologize I don't know these stuff. I only knew the straightforward clean install and I thought installing 64 bit was the same process as for 32 bit.
    I tried pressing F12 to get to boot options (hard drive, dvd drive, etc.) but it also listed the pair of  EFI Network 0 instead of the hard drive, dvd drive, etc. so from how I understood it, the laptop doesn't even attempt to read the dvd drive because of the bios boot settings?

  • Qosmio X500-106 - Windows 7 clean install problems

    Hi
    Recently purchased a Toshiba X500-106
    and it came with Windows 7 Home Premium,
    I purchased Windows 7 Ultimate as I wanted to use
    Bit-Locker.
    When I installed Windows 7 Ultimate OS I started my Laptop up and found that all original software was gone.
    Of course, but Now the screen is dark and the Graphics aren't right as I tried to run Solitaire and it said "Graphics not hardware accelerated".
    I then checked my system rating and found that My graphics was rated as "1.0"; and I can't watch any DVDs or blu-ray films, I keep trying to find a way to change the video setting but to no avail!
    Is it worth me restoring the HDD to Factory Spec?
    I'm not happy that it just looks bad, do I need the original software to change the settings?
    I've installed all relevant divers and software from NVIDIA and Toshiba but it's not working!
    What is my best option? Clean install again?
    Restore HDD to factory spec?
    Any help massively appreciated

    Interestingly I have install Windows7 Ultimate from an upgrade (not a clean install) on my X500-02M. Now it enjoys nothing better than loocking up every 20 or 30 minutes. I have made sure there are no viruses and run "Registery Patrol" on the computer but it is still very unstable. It also is actually more unstable doing simple things like doing word docs, project programs & emails than if running a game.
    So while I have all my Toshiba software my Qosmio runs like a dog.
    Toshiba suggested (no surprise here) resetting the system. Seems to me an easy answer but this is not the 1st X500 02M that has done this the first became so bad it is now back with its makers. The system seems to be inherantly unstable (much like some of the old satelites but without the blue screen of death)
    While I do recomend going back to the original Toshiba software (notebooks are like that) I do not recoment getting a Windows 7 ultimate upgrade pack until Toshiba makes it as the standard one seems not to work too well.

  • Mavericks clean install problems

    Created a boot drive just like all the tutorials say.  Went through entire install process with no issues. Finally get Mavericks up and running but I see some of my apps on there, like a couple games and some other apps. Also had numerous files from downloads, like songs and movies. I eject the boot drive and restart the computer and when it restarts it's like I never did a clean install. All of my files were still there.
    Any ideas on where I could have went wrong?

    I'm so confused, initially I had upgraded to Mavericks instead of doing a clean install. So after a ton of issues I backed up all my important stuff onto an external HD. I made a boot disk from a USB flash drive. I erased the drive using disk utility and formatted for Mac OS X extended (journaling) then I got the files into the boot disk.
    I restarted, held option and then clicks on the boot disk and started the install. Doesn't this wipe the original OS and completely install a brand new one? I'm used to windows where I can format the drive and reinstall.
    I'm honestly so confused how I could have had a fresh install of mavericks and then restart the computer and have it basically seem like I hadn't done anything.

  • Mac OS x lion clean install problems

    While trying to do a clean install of OS X lion, my macbook pro is stuck at "downloading additioal components required to install mac os x lion. though i have wifi access, there is no bandwidth usage in the whole process.. it starts with 22 minutes, goes upto 4 minutes and suddenly jumps to 5 hours and 54 minutes before showing an error message that says "cant download additional components required to install mac os x lion. Im stuck with a dead notebook.. would be grateful if anyone could give me an insight into a possible solution.

  • Clean install problems imac5.2

    Hi, I did a clean install on my mothers old imac 5.2 operating on Tiger, unfortunately the install disc was damaged and I was unable to either complete the installation ( it gets 79% of the way through then fails) or restore the original OS. I just get the flashing ?/file icon.
    Apple  kindly sent me 2 new Tiger installation discs from the States but I cannot boot from them. I have tried all Mac key combos that I know. I can access disc utilities on the old OS disc. Any ideas? Patrick
    I have a mac keyboard and mouse.

    I can change start up on the old damaged OS disc but that's no good.
    Thats what you need to do.
    Boot from the existing disk then go to system preferences and set the new install disc to start up from

  • Clean install problem, refuse to start installation

    Hello,
    I had mountain lion and wanted to do a complete clean install by doing the cmd+r (recovery mode), format my internal harddrive and then reinstall mountain lion using the recovery system. However, this failed miserably, and now when I reboot the computer, it takes 50 minutes to get into 'internet mode' (or whatever it's called) and then, I get to LION recovery.
    So I tried to install Lion instead, however, this is calculated to take 122 hours. Then nothing happens (I left it on for the night to see if anything changed).
    What am I supposed to do?!

    Why did it fail? What happened. Did you do this:
    Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
          left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
            the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
          the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.

    I am doing a clean install of Yosemite in hopes of resolving  my many MacBook Pro issues. This has been recommended by Apple Support before installing a new hard drive which would be the next option.
    My Macbook Pro is an early 2011, running Mavericks, 2.7 GHz Inel Core i7, OSX 10.9.5. 16 G B Ram, 500 GB Hard Drive with over half available.
    I have Yosemite on a Bootable USB drive and a current back up on a separate external hard drive. The question I have is should I update to Yosemite first, do another back-up and then do the clean install or is this an unnecessary step?

    How do you have your data backed up?  Time Machine or another method?  If Time Machine, run it from the recovery partition and then install Yosemite.  If you simply have data stored on the external HDD with no OSX, Install Yosemite and then transfer the user data.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Clean Install problem....

    OK, long story short, I did a clean install of my system and am reinstalling FCStudio along with all my other software. The hitch is that I upgraded to FCStudio 2 from FCStudio. It is an upgrade version and wants my original serial after entering the upgrade serial. I apparently got rid of all the documentation from my original version when I upgraded, stupid I know. is there a way to find serials registered with my apple ID or anything like that? As always, I'm on a deadline.....

    Well... If you registered it with Apple, you might try giving them a call... They probably have that info saved...
    I did that with software I bought online a few years back, and called them a few years later, and lo and behold, they still had my SN# (but this was another company, not Apple).

    When my installation goes to 60% i have an error em.ear file not found...
    I looking for many issues on this forum, but i can't fix this error (i have been unzipped all 2 archives in the same folder, i have deleted all files in temp folders...), but i can't pass the oracle install test... all test is filed, but i ignor this screen, because i know, that all is right... so can any one help me with installation?

    I looking for many issues on this forum, but i can't fix this error (i have been unzipped all 2 archives in the same folder, i have deleted all files in temp folders...), but i can't pass the oracle install test... all test is filed, but i ignor this screen, because i know, that all is right... so can any one help me with installation?What is the full path name to the directory where unzipped the files?
    Do a system 'find' and locate 'em.ear'. What is the full path name to it? At acommand prompt, enter the following:
    cd \
    dir /s em.earcopy the entire session -- command and results, and paste back here.
    Also, does the path to the installation files contain any spaces? Does the path to the installed ORACLE_HOME contain any spaces?
