Help with a flash problem

Question

I am using a flash tutorial to custom make the effect for my own site (and to learn more about as3)
It is 3D photo pannels from this page

anyway i have notced that when the app loads the affected object always faces its top left most position.
I believe this is caused by the mouse position being zero before the user mouse overs the flash area.
obviosly i want the object to face the screen as if it was static until the user tries to use it
Firstly I attempted to wrap all of the code into a mouseover event listener but this just crashed it.
My second idea was to copy/paste the entire frame, change the interactive instance name in frame 1, apply stop(); to frame 1 and then use an mouseover event listener on the movable object in frame 1 which goes to frame 2.
This works but there is a notable delay between moving to the second frame and the code that makes the object intractve kicking in
(the background changes instantly when i mouse over so this shows that the framechange is instant, but the object takes a second or 2 to become fully responsive to mouse position changes)
i have tried adding removeeventlistener to the change frame function and this improves speed somewhat but there is still a noticable delay
what else can i do to make the transition seamless?
would putting a preloader on it work (ensure the code if fully loaded before the user can do any interacting?
