Help with button actions

Hi all,
The last Flash version that I am use to, is 5.5 which was extremely easy to use. I have used CS3  a little, but now I have CS4. You use to be able to set the action right in the button, then just copy the button. Now it's totaly different. I have watched some tutorials in Adobe TV, but find that my property windows do not look like theirs, which is very confusing.
Can any one point me to some URLs that show me basic buttons tutorials, such as: on release goto and play scene 1 frame 10, etc.
Thank yoou
HDsuperglide

you can use as1 if you want.  cs3, cs4 and cs5 are all backwards compatible with the coding style you've used in the past.
nevertheless, i'm not an adobe employee/company rep.
this forum is for people that want help and i'm here to help people that want help.

    As part of a class I have to create an aquarium where I have
    pictures of fish on the side and I want to be able to click on the
    fish and have it add the fish to the aquarium. I want to be able to
    have the viewer select the number and types of fish they want in
    the aquarium. I'm using Flash 8 if that matters. Please, any help
    would be wonderful.

    Thank you for your help so far.
    I am just a beginner and that coding went way over my head. I
    have created a movie clip for each fish and I have added the
    buttons to the aquarium. I have created the linkage for the movie
    clips in my library. I am having problems attaching the clip to the
    button. In all of the examples I have seen I have to include the
    instance name. How do I give a clip that is not on the stage an
    instance name?
    Can you please help?
    Thank you

  • Help with buttons :S

    hi all,
    i'm new to flash but i have an idea whats going on with webpages. I need some help with buttons! i have a website and its has a stage and 9 different flv's (screens). I've been trying to read online and i can't find out how to navigate to different screens, example below
    home          |            |
    about us     |  stage   |
    contact       |            |
    you click one one button it updates the stage. also i'm using actionscript 2.0.
    thanks for any help ahead of time
    Thank you,

    Is it a wi-fi or cellular connection that isn't working?  If its wi-fi and other people/computers/phones can connect check your settings.  If its cellular, are other people's phones (on the same carrier) working in the same location? If other people can't connect then it is likely a network problem.  If others can you may need to reset/restore you iPhone.

  • Help needed with Button action performed

    Hi,
    I am new to AWT prgramming .
    I have created a menu called " Menu System Test window " and it contains toplevel menu items of "File" and "Help" and File Menu contains subitems "Product Evaluation" and "Exit".
    When i click File->Product Evaluation it displays a new Frame named "ProductEvaluationMeasurementTool" with some check boxes ,radiobuttons, buttons and text fields. So when i select some checkboxes in that new frame and click the button labeled "Metricslevel" it displays some resultin textField1 , similarly when i click Button labeled "Measurementlevel" it displays some result in textField2.
    My question is i have another button in Frame Called "Reset". When i click the Reset button all the check boxes which have been checked previously should be unchecked and moreover the result in both the textfield should be cleared.
    I am sending my code. Kindly help me.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Need help with buttons in a phone simulation

    Hello
    I have built a telephone interface to be used for training in a Call Center.
    I am attempting to allow the user to press on the numberpad to enter passwords and such.
    It is only a simulation and will only work if the user presses the correct buttons.
    I am able to create the simulation when the user presses different buttons such as 1234
    but I need them to press 0000 (zero 4 times)
    I am not sure how to do this...
    I have been playing around with the advanced actions, which has allowed me to accomplish the hide and show actions when the user clicks a button, but wondering if there is a way I can
    have them click the 0 on the dialpad so each time it brings up the next zero
    once its gets to the 4th one, it will advance to the next slide...
    Hope that makes sense
    I appreciate any help or advice
    thanks
    Melissa

    Hi there,
    What I did, I took a variable 'counter123' and assign '0' value to this variable.
    I then added a button with Advanced action, I am sharing the Screenshot of the advanced action panel.
    Screen shot 1 :
    Incrementing the Value on click :
    The value of the variable should increase on every click, so lets add a true statement as a condition.
    Screenshot no 2 :
    As normally on buttons/click boxes, the project will continue as soon we click them.
    lets compare the value of our variable and then pause the project.
    Screen shot 3 :
    last if our purpose is solved, here we have clicked the button 4 times, so that has updated the value of our counter to 4, so as soon as the counter exceeds the value, we want the project to continue.
    please let me know if this helps you.
    This will help you in pressing a button 4 times, and i think you can also add actions to show and hide 'zeros' in your project.
    I find such scenarios very interesting and I always find help on Lilybiri's Blog : http://lilybiri.posterous.com/

  • NEED HELP WITH BUTTONS IN AS3!!

    Hello, I am stumped with an action scripting problem. I'm
    trying to create a really basic website in flash using buttons to
    jump from scene to scene. Let's say I want to do something as
    simple as make scene 1 jump to scene two right? I'll place in my
    scene 2 button on my first page:
    But instead of the scene changing to the next scene after I
    press the button, these errors come up!!
    1180: Call to a possibly undefined method on.
    1120: Access of undefined property release.
    1120: Access of undefined property _root.
    I've tried asking in so many different forums, I usually do
    pretty good with action scripting for buttons. But this is my first
    time doing it with cs3. I'm utterly confused, someone please help!!
    Thank you.
    The code on this page is the code I was using to try to
    change scenes...Oh! and whenever I try to put a code in the actual
    button, it won't let me. I just get a message that says something
    like "Can't have any actions applied to it".

    foxxpop,

    > 1120: Access of undefined property _root.
    You're using three terms that aren't supported in
    ActionScript 3.0: the
    on() function, the release parameter to that function, and
    _root. In
    ActionScript 3.0, you'll have to give your button an instance
    name and wire
    it up like this:
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2007/flash/making-buttons-work-in-flash-cs3
    In that blog entry, you'll see (with explanation) something
    that looks
    like this:
    myButton.addEventListener(
    MouseEvent.CLICK,
    function(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    trace("I've been clicked!");
    Just bear in mind that you can also make that a named
    function, like
    this:
    myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickHandler);
    function clickHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    trace("I've been clicked!");

    Your issue isn't Flash CS3, it's that your FLA file is
    configured for
    ActionScript 3.0. If you change that to AS2, you can go right
    on using the
    same approach you used to -- and you'll be able to attach
    code directly to
    objects. ;)

  • Need help with buttons that react to rollover that create a scoll effect

    hey everyone,
    I'm new to flash and actionscript and am having trouble
    creating what I need. I want to create a scroll area that scrolls
    left and right when you rollover a left or right arrow. what I want
    to scroll looks like a piece of film negative that has about 20
    thumbnails in it. I only want it to show about 4 thumbs at once
    though (thus the scroll is needed). so when the mouse rolls over
    the arrows, it scrolls, and when it rolls out it stops in place.
    eventually, i will add links to the thumbs for a better image.
    I've checked out a couple tutorials on scrollbars and such
    thinking that I can just go in and modify the code a bit, but the
    two turorials i've tried to do have left some of the pieces out...
    not very helpful when you don't know actionscript well. does
    anybody have any tips or ideas?

  • Need help for button actions

    Hi, can someone help me please? I like to put a invisable
    button over a picture (movie) with two actions. 1. rollover will
    show a title, 2. release will get new URL. I succeed in one or the
    other action but not on both of them combined. What can I do? I use
    action script 2. Thanks. Sarosa

    You could achieve the same result putting code in the
    button...
    1 - Open example.fla
    2 - Save it as example2.fla
    3 - Layer Actions --> frame 1, delete all the code leaving
    only:
    testing._visible = false;
    stop();
    4 - Layer button: select the bt button instance
    5 - in the Actions Panel (by the way, attached to the
    button), put this code:
    on (rollOver) {
    testing._visible = true;
    on (rollOut) {
    testing._visible = false;
    on (release) {
    getURL("
    http://www.google.com", _blank);
    6 - Test your movie: it works too!
    If you are totally new to Flash, always remember to name
    things in an appropriate way using the "official" names.
    (read again the beginner's tutorials)
    For example, it's wrong to say "I put the action script on
    the button not on a separate layer".
    This is completely ununderstandable...
    More: I didn't "convert" a graphic symbol to a button but I
    changed the behavior of a graphic symbol into the behavior of a
    button.
    Doing so, the graphic symbol is recognized as a button with
    all the properties attached to a button.
    The main difference between a graphic symbol acting as a
    button and a real Button is that the Button has four frames (Up,
    Over, Down and Hit) and the graphic symbol has not.

  • Help with button code please?

    I am a novice and have just completed my first animated movie. I need help with action script.
    The movie is currently looped and I have created and invisible button the size of the frame with the intention that a user can click on the movie image to stop it and on second click continue the movie from where it stopped.
    I have used the AS event handler method to stop the movie. I have tested it and it works. But I cannot figure suitable code to restart the movie.
    Two questions;
    1. am I going about the task the right way? (should I use two buttons, one stop, one start)?
    2. if my approach is feasible, can anyone give me the correct AS to re-start the movie and put me out of my misery please?

    you can use the following after changing "yourbutton" and "yourmovieclip" to use suitable instance names:
    yourbutton.onRelease=function(){
    if(!this.toggle){
    yourmovieclip.stop();
    } else {
    yourmovieclip.play();
    this.toggle=!this.toggle;

  • Help with buttons in gui

    I need to create first, last, next, and previous buttons in my gui. I have them in there (in the code), but only one button shows up (instead of four), and it has "first" overlapped with the "previous" button. The "next" and "last" don't even show up at all.
    Can some one guide me please? Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?? Thank you in advance

  • Help with buttons and timing

    I have four buttons, each with an advanced action.  Only the first one works.  I know it's related to the button timing, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

    Let's try some troubleshooting 101.  Remove the complexity to isolate the issue.
    Try setting each button just to have a Continue action again and test. This will show whether the problem is with the buttons or with the Advanced Actions you've assigned to them.
    If the buttons work fine with Continue actions, try dragging your first button off the stage area into the scrap area and then test the slide again.  If the button that is first in line NOW works, but others don't, then I would look at these advanced actions carefully because there may be something in the logic that is fouling things up.
    For example, standard actions do not release the playhead unless you also add an extra Continue action line, whereas Conditional Actions do not require this same Continue action.

  • Help with folder actions

    Automator is still a little confusing to me, I have virtually no experience, but wish to have automated emails sent when the contents of certain folders in my idisk/public folder are updated.
    First thing that confuses me is I thought automator worked with folder actions, it doesn't seem to for me and am left running an applescript to detect the changes and tell automator to send the email. This seems rather long winded and not what I'd expected.
    Second thing I can get what I've done to send emails when items are added to the folder, but not when they are modified/updated which is what I wanted. This is due to my lack of experience with scripting so any help would be appreciated.
    What I've got so far is
    '....on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving added_items
    try
    tell application "Automator".....'
    how do I change this to do what I want ?

    Winston,
    You need to save the Automator workflow as a folder action plug-in with it attached to the folder of interest. You start this process by selecting the "Save as Plug-in..." command under the File menu. You will then have to enter the name you want to use for the plug-in and select the "folder action" from the "Plug in for:" drop-down menu. An "Attached to Folder:" drop-down menu will appear and you can select one of those presented or navigate to something else by selecting the "Other..." choice (which you will have to do to get to your idisk/public folder).
    Once this is done then every time something is added or modified within the watched folder the Automator workflow will be triggered and run. In your case, because the folder is on iDisk, it will only be triggered when you are logged into your iDisk account.

  • Help in button action to open a file that is attached to main pdf doc

    Hello,
    I have created a button and used an icon saying "click here...." the action I want to attach to it is to have on mouse down for it to open the file which is attached to the document.
    Is this possible?  If so how do I direct the acton of "open file" to be the one attached in document?  can't figure out path...
    there was a suggestion of how to make a javascript for the button action to open the attachment panel...
    this is what was written... and then below that is my question on what was written...
    thomp wrote:Try thisif(app.viewerVersion < 8)
    app.execMenuItem(....);
    else
    app.execMenuItem(....);
    what would go in the '(...)' above?
    I am very poor at javascript, but I am guessing that there is something I would need to fill in there? Am I correct?
    thank you...
    I, too, am trying to get my button action to open the attached document in my pdf form - NOT the navigation panel... I already have it doing that...
    thanks again for any feedback!

    Erin,
    After you set your link... go back into the edit mode, click on your link and go to Actions Tab, click on the "go to page view in another document' under the actions part of that tab (bottom portion of page), then click on Edit... it will open a 'Target Document' window and in the top portion click on 'open in...' drop down box and select 'new window'.... close out and SAVE!
    Hope that helps!

  • Hi there... I need a little help with buttons and their actions using flex builder 4.5

    I run a repo company and have zero experience in the developing applications and I could use some help from anybody that is willing to give it.... Here is a basic idea of what I need...  let's say there are 3 states... state 1 has a question that says "car you read this?" and a "yes" and a "no" button... when you select either answer, you go to slide 2.  Slide 2 with have a question like "Is the sky brown?" and a "yes" and a "no" button and when either button is selected, you are taken to Slide 3.  Slide 3 needs to be some sort of a text form that is created by the user selecting the buttons and the screen would say something like "yes, i can read this.  no, the sky is not brown", or "no, I can't read this.   yes, the sky is brown" .  I know how to get the buttons to take the user to the correct new slide, but I do not know how to get the buttons to insert specific text somewhere else when any button is selected.... Can anybody help me?  Youtube is only getting me so far, and my kids are driving me nuts while I'm trying to figure this monster out...  I've gotten several slides created and some screens have several buttons, I just need to see what I need to put in the code to get it to do this type of function

    Also where can I read up on setting my .Xdefaults and xmonad.hs file? I ripped someones from this forum, and it works nice, but I want to make my onw, but cant find any decent documentation. Thanks.
    At the moment, the best source for configs are those posted in the screenshots thread (for both Xdefaults and xmonad.hs), the xmonad config archive (and the available docs from the root page on that site), and our own thread.  Unfortunately you'll have to sort of scrounge for good docs on the xmonad.hs at the moment, since most of the information was written for the 0.4 version of xmonad.  The configuration has since been made MUCH simpler.
    Hope that helps some.

  • Help with Repeating actions InDesign CS5 animation/buttons

    I have an interactive catalog that I'm exporting out as a swf. I have one button on one of the catalog pages to where you click on it a movie plays and a "close" button is shown. When I click on the close button the dissappear animation is called on both the movie and the close button.  However, when I go to repeat the actions by clicking on the original button that is supposed to play the movie and show the close button, I can only hear the sound but can't see the movie or my close button. If I go to another page of the catalog and come back it performs properly. How do I work around/fix this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
