Help with Cat 5 cables

Hello, I'm new here and need some help. I am trying to set up a small network at my office using cat5 wire I purchased, along with line tester. I had to throw approximately 120 ft of cable to the furthest computers, but the router doesn't recognize it, although the line tester saya everything is working fine. The computers state that a network cable is unplugged and won't let me proceed with set up. Any ideas on what is happening? Thanks in advance.

Did you make the cable a straight, or cross over? You need a cross over cable for this.

There's many ways to do these things. I advise you to learn a little on your own as it will make your life in linux much easier and more productive.

Need help with CATS WebDynpro

EP 7.0 SP13 u2013 MSS 1.0, ESS 1.0
Scenario: We are trying to implement the CATS functionality in the portal so that contractors can enter their time and managers can approve time from within the portal. We currently have our employees in the HR system and Contractors in the Financial system. I have changed the JCo References within the DCu2019s for esscat & msscat~approval from SAP_R3_Human Resources to SAP_R3_Financials.
Issues: Approving time is working correctly. What is not working is the Time Entry Portion. If a contractor logs into the portal to enter time he can not see his work items. When I remove my IT0105 Subtype 0001 from my HR system I get the User does not exist in this period error. I looked in the DC and notice that it uses the DC pcuigp~xssutils FCEmployeeServices. This DC checks the HR system for the useru2019s information. Since contractors donu2019t exist in our HR system we receive the error. Is there a way to override the calls to this DC and point them to the Financials systems? We donu2019t want to change the DC to only point to the Financials systems and this DC is used for ESS as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeh I got that. I was just thinking of past clients. It always worked pretty well if they "rolled on" contractors like employees but in their own emp. group. Then they had a pretty good way of tracking them.....as well as things like you discuss with time especially around PS. In fact, at one client, I had to build a CSS (Contractor/Consultant Self-Service) along with their ESS solutions. hahahaha
Anyways...yeh, yours will be tricky. The FI and HR tie ins to CATS are cake (hey, that's what it's for CROSS APPLICAITON....haha) but the trick is saying "some of these people are employees and need to feed over to HR, but some aren't". Have you looked at any of the CATS user-exist or BADIs to see if you could put in your own "filter" to not check contractors? Maybe have contractors in some Z table and check it before the calls are made to the HCM system? Just a quick thought. In any event, I think I see some "fun" custom development in your future. *grin*

I'm trying to connect my 23" Cinema Display monitor to my iMac. The adaptor cable I ordered came with a female, I need a male adaptor. Any ideas where I might find one? I purchased the BlueRigger Mini Displayport Male to DVI Female Adapter Cable.

I have the 23" aluminum Cinema Display. I just can't seem to find the right adaptor for the monitor femal plug on the backside. I've tried a Bluerigger but it was a female adaptor. I believe I need a male.

Help with purchasing cables for Sony DCR-TRV320

I have the above model sony camcorder and the sony website has 3 different cables that supposedly work to transfer video to a computer.... the VMC-IL4435, the VMC-IL4415 and the VMC-IL4615. Does it make a difference which one I should purchase? Thanks.

Welcome to the Discussions.
The VMC-IL4615 is the 4 to 6 pin cable you want.
But there's no need to buy it from Sony and pay $40 bucks! Any store that sells computer or camera accessories should have one.
Just ask for a 4 to 6 pin FireWire cable.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

I upgraded my iPhone 4 last evening to iOS 6, the upgrade completed and the device was usable. Then in the morning I went to the device to check E-mail, Voice Messages, Test Messages, etc... and the phone was dead. I tried plugging the device into a charger (for a couple of hours) - still dead. Plugged into computer with iTunes, device not recognized or discovered, and iPhone was still dead... Took the iPhone into an Apple Store and the Technician looked it over for any visible signs of defect/malfunction, then performed various tasks to breathe life into the phone - nothing... His suggestion, at this point, was to replace the phone. He speculated that the iOS upgrade possibly corrupted the iPhone's charging firmware, and that this device was now a BRICK. Keep in mind that the phone and it's charging abilities were perfectly fine prior to the iOS Upgrade. I hate to go through the replacement hassle and the cost ($159.00) when the iOS upgrade caused the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If the sign does not go away it has not completed the restore. So you are incorrect when you say it "keeps completing the restore" if that message is still displayed.
Do you get an error message? If so, what is the error number?

Need help with WRT54GL, can't connect on wireless just cable

I have a WRT54GL, firmware 4.30.5. It is connected to a cable modem. I have two computers, one mac and one pc using XP SP2. Mac works great with its airport adapter but the pc only works with the cable. I tried two separate wireless USB adapters but can't get it to connect to the internet.
I can connect to the router but it keeps getting stock at the acquiring network address. I already set the Mac filter and the connection is Excellent but no internet.
Router is set to Auto DHCP. I appreciate any help.

Thanks for your help. Actually late last night I installed the EasyConnect Utility from Linksys.com and it managed to connect to the wireless router and connected to the Internet. But now my problem is the connection is VERY SLOW. The signal strength is Excellent but it takes a long while to download any page with flash or images. I did a Speakeasy.net speed test and it came our under 100K for download and about 200K for upload. When I connect a network cable directly to the router then the speed shoots up to over 1.5M+

Has anyone tried to sync photos with the cable to itunes rather than how it should work via Wifi with iCloud? The info on the Apple support page says that you should backup to both iTunes & iCloud, but 2x the Genius Bar told me not to. Help please!

The Genius Bar told me 2x not to do both. What experiences has the community had? I'm also having syncing issues with photos most recently as well as contact updates. It sounds like you are mixing up several different things (or not using the terminology that Apple uses).
One thing is backup. You can backup via icloud or via iTunes and there is no reason you cannot do both -- I do and the second link below from Apple gives instructions. Doing a backup will include photos from the Camera Roll in the backup but you will not be able to see the results -- all of the backup data will be stored on iCloud or on your computer in files that are not designed to be accessed by you for any purpose other than restoring to your phone in the event of a problem. If you simply want to transfer photos from an iPhone to a computer, the terminology Apple uses for that is "import" and it is done without iTunes. New photos (taken after you change the setting) can be done via PhotoStream which is a cloud based option. The other option is via cable. Instructions for both: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
Syncing via iTunes (with regard to photos) is used to transfer photos the other direction -- from the computer to the phone. Instructions for that http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

Need help with Tiger & XP network setup

Hi all!
Back in the days of OS 7.5, I managed to stick my old faithful Mac onto my family's otherwise all-PC network. All I really needed was internet access - I didn't try to fileshare.
Now that I have Tiger, though, I'm totally lost as to how to set up the network. All the help I can find seems to say "ask your network administrator." The problem is, that's me! I'm hoping someone can help me set up the router and the Tiger computer as well.
Could this be a compatibility issue between OS 10.4 and the router? The router box said "minimum requirements" for Mac are "10.3, 10.2, or 10.1."
I have a D-link DI-624 wireless router. Right now I have a desktop PC wired in with cat-5 cable, and also a laptop PC that connects wirelessly. No problem with those computers. But I cannot get my Mac to see the router, or vice versa.
I've tried setting the router to "allow DHCP server to assign same IP address to specific MAC address." (I found my Mac's Mac address just fine and double-checked it was correct.) After setting that in the router, I hooked up the Mac via cat-5 and edited Network Prefs. First I tried "Configure using DHCP with manual address," and entered the IP address I had told the router to set automatically for the Mac.
(Router address is 192.168.0.1 and I told it to assign 192.168.0.4 to the Mac.)
Safari told me I wasn't connected to the Internet, so using trial and error I changed Network Prefs to "Configure IPv4 using DHCP." No luck there either, even when I tried the "Renew DHCP Lease" button.
Any advice as to whether or not I should be telling the router to auto-assign an IP address to the Mac? I took off that setting completely, and set Network Prefs to "using DHCP," but still couldn't connect to the internet.
Would it be worth re-installing my older copy of OS 10.1 to see if that works with the router, since that is actually listed on the box?
I thank you for any suggestions you have to offer! I really don't know what to try next.

I'm using the Mac wired - it does not have wireless capability, and as it is sitting right next to the router I just want to hook it up with Ethernet cable. The wireless function is just for the PCs I have downstairs.
I am not sure what non-broadcast SSID means, but I think that has to do with the wireless portion of the network, right? I do have a SSID name set up, and WEP encryption so that only the PCs I own can connect to the wireless network, not anyone else's computers. But on the wired PC I have connected directly to the router, I do not have to input any of the security settings. I've even set the router to recognize the MAC addresses of all my computers, including the Mac.
What brand and model of router are you using successfully with Macs & PCs? The store I bought my router from is willing to give me a full refund if I can't get it to work - perhaps I would have better luck with the type of router you're using.

Really need your assistance. I have tried both contacting HP by phone (told they no longer support our printer via phone help), the tech told me that I needed to contact HP by e-mail for assistance. I then sent an e-mail for assistance and got that reply today, the reply is as follows "Randall, unfortunately, HP does not offer support via e-mail for your product. However many resources are available on the HP web site that may provide the answer to your inquiry. Support is also available via telephone. A list of technical support numbers can be round at the following URL........." The phone numbers listed are the ones I called and the ones that told me I needed to contact the e-mail support for help.
So here I am looking for your help with my issue.
We just bought a new HP Pavillion Slimline Desk Top PC (as our 6 year old HP Pavillion PC died on us). We have 2 HP printers, one (an all-in-one type printer, used maily for copying and printing color, when needed) is connected and it is working fine with the exception of the scanning option (not supported by Windows 7). However we use our Laser Printer for all of our regular prining needs. This is the HP LaserPrinter 1200se, which is about 6 years old but works really well. For this printer we currently only have a parallel connection type cord and there is not a parallel port on the Slimline HP PC. The printer also has the option to connedt a USB cable (we do not currently have this type of cable).
We posed the following two questions:
1. Is the Laser Jet 1200se compatible with Windows 7?
and if this is the case
2. Can we purchase either a) a USC connection cord (generic or do we need a printer specific cord)? or b) is there there a printer cable converter adapater to attach to our parallel cable to convert to a USB connection?
We do not want to purchase the USB cable if Windows 7 will not accept the connection, or if doing this will harm the PC.
We really would appreciate any assitance that you might give us.

Sorry, both cannot be enabled by design. That said, devices on a network do not care how others are connected. You can print from a wireless connection to a wired (Ethernet) printer and v/v.

US uses 110v on 60hz
Australia 220v on 50hz
Making sure I understood that correctly. Devices I plan on bringing that will use power are PS3 Slim, MacBook Pro 2008 model, and WD 1TB External HDD. My DS, and Cell are charging via USB to save trouble of other cables.
Ideas I've had or thought of:
1. Get a power converter for a US Powerstrip, and then plug in my US items into the strip and then the strip into an AUS Converter into Australian outlet. Not sure if this fixes the voltage/frequency change.
2. Get power converters for all my devices. But, not sure if my devices needs ways of lowering the voltage/increasing frequency or something to help with the adjustment.
3. Buy a universal powerstrip, which is extremely costly and I wouldn't be able to have here in time (I leave Thursday). Unless Best Buy carrys one.

Check the specs on input voltage/frequency of your power supplies.
Many laptop power supplies are "universal/global" and are specced something like 80-265 volts AC 50/60 Hz, but not all. These will just need a connector adapter.
Unsure about the PS3 Slim - if it isn't universal it could be difficult as you'll need a 110/220 transformer, one big enough (power-handling wise) for the PS3 will be very bulky.
For the external WD HDD, if it doesn't have a universal supply, you're probably best off just finding a new wallwart for it that is capable of running on 220/50.
