Help with LR4 importing

I have just purchased and installed Adobe Lightroom 4.  I want to know is it possible to just pull one photo into LR4 at a time to work on it?  I do not want to import all of my photos into LR4...just the one that I want to work on at the moment.
If this is possible, what are the steps to do it.  No book or instructions come with CD...except for the "help" section when I installed it.   That is not what I am looking for.  I am looking for a place where I can ASK a question and get an answer. Also, (as an afterthought) are there any CD's or videos available for purchase that will come to me in the US Mail.  I would like to have them here in my hands.....not online where I have to go back and forth...I want to use 2 laptops at a time.  one with the CD I am using....and the other with my photo that I want to work on so I can follow along.
Thanks
sherri

Yes, you can do that, Sherri.
From the import dialogue, select the folder where the image you want to work on resides.
Lr will display thumbnails of the images within the folder, each with a tick at top left.
If you click the "Uncheck all" button at the bottom left of the screen, the ticks will be removed. You can then select the one image you want to work on, tick it, and select "Import" at bottom right.
It's not really how Lr is used to its best advantage, but it can be done.

  • Need Help with FCP7 import and plug in question.

    Hello,
I just registered and would like to ask two questions. Everything else I'll use the search function for but I need the answer right away.
Ok First question. I have a mac pro at home and a intel macbook both with FCS4 during the holiday season I'd like to work on a project on my laptop. Now I have all my files on a 2.0 USB drive(I know its not that fast for video) but this is only temp. while traveling. I'm trying to figure out why it wont import the files into another project. Even when I'm at my home Mac Pro when I try to import a projects footage into another project it doesn't read it. This comes up
"File Error: 0 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied 254 unknown"
But all the files will work in the project that it was originally captured too.
If this helps the codec is sonys HDV 1080 60i converted to Apple ProRes 422(HQ) which I found out I should only use the regular Apple ProRes 422. I'm stuck now b/c I cannot import the files into a new project to work in on my laptop. Plus my Macbook doesn't have Firewire800 so I have no way to get the footage from tape to my laptop other then my USB Hard Drive.
I also have problem importing the files in Motion and Cinema Tools they also are not recognizing the files which is getting me upset since they are FCP7 generated files after I convert them to ProRes.
Whenever I try to import/use the files in anything other the original project they are grey'ed out.
I'm also confused on how to import effects plug-ins I've downloaded effects from apple only to have now directions to import them into the program.
Sorry for the Noob questions I'm a film student learning FCP7 by myself so I have the upper hand come next semester. Thanks in advance.

Can't tell for sure but it sounds as if the drive is not properly formatted, or you do not have correct read/write permissions for it. There is no way you can use this drive with HQ video. You're going to get into problem if you even try.

  • Help with data imports and identifying correct contact

    Hi Guys,
I am looking to import some data from a csv into a table called 'interactions'
This table is linked to contact via a 1-to-many relationship.
when I am importing data often I get errors saying that it cant determine which contact to use because we have contacts with the same name.
Is there anyway I can import data into the 'interaction' table and not only say which contact this is attached to but also provide some more information such as the contacts parent account so that it can identify the correct contact more often and leave
me less that I need to add manually?
    Many thanks in advance

The data import wizard is built into CRM.  You can now place csv files of different entities into a single zipped file to do a sort of pseudo batch import.
It may be helpful to download a template of the import file for the entity that you want to import.  This can be downloaded within CRM.  The benefit is that you are given the column headings.  And when you hover over a column heading, it tells
you the data type it will expect.  I will use the template and just copy and paste the data in from another spreadsheet if I get the data from a user.  The import runs smoother then.
If you have the resources, there are 3rd party tools such as Scribe that can import data from different sources into CRM.  A bit costly but you can get a trial version to test.  The trial may only be good for 2 weeks.  But it offers the ability
to transform data if necessary for the import.

  • Help with large import to Lightroom

I have about 15000 images in 100's of folders to import into Lightroom; tech assistance tells me I must import each folder one at a time; please tell me there is a faster way for such a large import.  Thanks in advance, Mirlie

I beg your pardon.  You are absolutely right (as, I am sure you had no doubt).  I was clicking choose instead of import all photos in selected folders; as a matter of fact until I just read you response I had not ever seen the option of "import all photos in selected folders".  Again so sorry to have indicated your solution was wrong.  It amazes me that I have spent hours on the phone with Adobe LR tech support and they continued to read from their scripts that I needed to import each folder individually.  You have saved me many hours and stiff shoulder muscles.  I now know where to come for help.  Have a great evening.  Thanks so much.

  • Help with export/import in premiere pro

    Hi Everyone
I have a question about import and export in Premiere Pro CS5.
I have some 1920*1080 .mov-files shot with canon eos 500d.
What is the best import setting for premiere pro cs5?
What is the best export setting from premiere pro (to adobe encore) to dvd?
The film is going to be projected on to a big screen. How do I get the best quality for this?
I would be very very thankful for your help!
    Tami

check your paused and/or playback resolution settings...
I've found TIFF to be the cleanest output from PPT for inclusion in video, and I've also found that the scale to frame size command usually works pretty well within Premiere. However, Photoshop's scaler uses much better algorithms and will give you a much better result. You can do a batch process on all your files and automatically create smaller versions of them if you'd like. Alternatively, you can open PPT and customize the size of your PPT slide, which should scale everything to fit your new size. Then you'll have native 720x480 TIFFs on export from PPT.

  • Help with logo importing?

    hi,
trying to put my company's logo into motion. i have photoshop and i imported it into motion with no problems. everything is perfect about it except that the logo doesn't look good on the video.
the edges are crisp or clear on the logo while in motion.
i know it's a crisp good quality image when i import it. but for some reason when i import it into motion it doesn't look as good anymore. what can i do? please help me!!??

There could be some explanations for that. But first check the aspect ratio pixel settings in photoshop and compare that with your motion project settings. Then also check the output of your file on a TV screen, don't trust fully your computer screen. Also check your anti-aliasing setting. Depending on the final output (where it's going to reside, web site on DVD, ...etc) you may need to compress it and that will give you also a different result. If you are watching the result in your QT player, set the quality to high in the QT player settings before you review it. You may also want to choose to re-draw the logo in motion, that's another alternative, if nothing works for you.
See how you go. Good luck.

  • Need help with FCE import (1920x1080)

I'm new to FCE and unfamiliar with the settings and format.  I bought the software in order to use one third party filter on a particular four minute project.  I thought this would be easy (I'm not even editing the show in Final Cut, just applying a filter.)  But  I've spent literally days watching tutorials and reading discussions trying to get settings and file formats right for a simple four minute project.
Here's my situation.  I created a video in Photo to Movie.
I exported it with the following settings:
    HDV 1080i
         Dimensions: 1920 x 1080
         Video
              Compression: Apple Intermediate Codec
              Quality:  Medium
              Frame rate: 29.97
              Preset: HDV 1080i
         Sound:
              Format: Integer (Big Endian)
              Sample rate: 48.000 khz
              Sample Size: 16-bit
              Channels: Stereo (L R)
Initially I was working in version 4 and could only work with the 1440 x 1080 sequence settings.  The film looked great in FCE but rendering was giving me poor image quality.  I thought this might be a problem with sequence settings.
I just updated to 4.0.1 so that I could work with 1920 x 1080 dimensions.  In Easy Setup I selected AVCHD  Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60.
But when I drag my Quicktime movie into the browser it's listed as 1440 x 1080.  I'm puzzled as I'm sure I formatted it at 1920x1080 and if I
use command+i on the .mov file it shows as 1920x1080.
I'm completely confused.  I have MPEG Streamclip and Iskysoft media converter if that's useful.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?
In the initial export of my Photo to Movie project?
    In my import into FCE?
    Both?
I'm far behind my deadline and really need some help.
Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Hi Tom, you are right, of course.  The inspector says:
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062)
    Millions 16-bit integer (Big Endian)
    Stereo (L R)
    48.000 kHz
    FPS 29.97
    Playing FPS (Available while playing.)
    Data size: 2.66 GB
    Data rate: 89.58 mbits/s
    normal size: 1888 x 1062
    current size: 1888 x 1062
I won't ask you to explain why I fed in one resolution and ended up with another or why the file shows up in the  preview menu as being 1920x1080.  Obviously I don't understand these basic concepts.
The more immediate question is--which settings should I be using to import into FCE (or should I be converting this to something else before it's imported into FCE?)
Finally, when it's time to export (after applying the filter) which settings should I use?
I need a high quality version that can be put on a DVD and also something that can be used on Youtube. (The more urgent need is for the You Tube file).
I truly hate to bother you with all this, but it's remarkable how many different online tutorials I've consulted and they all differ.  I've probably spent thirty hours this week trying different approaches (insane).  Each asserts that this or that format and setting is the "best" but no one seems to agree.    And none have entirely worked so far.  (I even had a professional come to my house this morning to help and he told me all my settings looked fine--obviously not true.)  Ultimately I need to understand the underlying concepts (and should have invested my time this way) but in the meantime, I urgently need to get this project out.
I saw in other posts that you have written about FCE.  Is there a particular title I should pick up to get a good overview of these concepts?  And, in your opinion, does it make sense to study FCE when everything seems to be moving toward the Pro X software?  I ask these additional questions, in part, for the benefit of others.  I'm sure I'm not the only layman out there who is struggling with this learning curve.  Thank goodness for individuals like you.

  • Help with the import statement

    Hello,
i have a question, how would you start a simple program
that it doesn't involve graphics or anything like that.
A simple program that for ex. it would increment and then dicrement the
    enetered number.
    What would you write after import_______________;
and how would you initialize the variables that you use.
    Thanks in advance!!!

I'm not sure that you understand what an import statment does.
Every class that you want to use must be imported. For example in this the class Integer must be imported
Integer myinteger = new Integer(5);so every time you use the word "new" that class must be imported.
To make our lives a little easier java will automatically include the java.lang.* files so all java programs have the line:
import java.lang.*;even though you don't see it.
If you want to use other classes you must find out what package they are in and import that class or it's entire package.
For example if you want to get user input you would probably want to look at the java.io package.
It will take some time to get a good feel for the packages and what classes are available, but spend some time each day or a couple time a week looking through the java API's.
    hope that helps.

  • I really need some serious help with Encore import

Ok I will start off by saying  Iam a complete and total newbie to this field.  I have produced a few small projects in premier and encore but nothing advanced until now.
Here is what I have done
    I am using CS04 Suite
I have built a Premier Project using AVCHD footage that is 2.5 hours long (roughly)
I exported the final project using AME to H.264 so that I could import it into Encore
The files is 16 GB in size
I am trying to import the file as an asset into encore to build the menus,  I need to create 2 images in encore, one DVD image and 1 Blueray Image.  I am trying to do the DVD image at this time.  Encore allows the import, shows the video in the asset list but my hard drive has been running like a fool for 3 hours now,  I cant seem to drag it to the timeline, if I right click  I cant even access the Transcode setting of the file, my system is very sluggish.  It almost seems like it is pre-transcoding but I see no progress bars anywhere.
Is Encore simply still importing the file?
    Am I doing this correctly?
Should I break up the video into smaller files? Will I need to create multiple Premier Projectes to do so?
If I wait long enough will it be ok?
I have 6 days to finish this project... I really need your help !!!

An external ESATA would do just fine.
Keep all of your media on the external drive.  Only use the internal drive for Windows and your applications.
Your quad-core and 4 GB of RAM is OK.  Not great (I'd get 2 GB of RAM per core), but OK.

  • Need Help with Order import corrections

    Hi Experts,
I 'am trying to edit the data entered into the interface tables for a failed order import through the corrections window. I made changes to the error attribute, say - Inventory_item_id for lines and saved the changes. When I click on "Validate", I always get the error: "Error You are trying to insert an existing order or update an order that does not exist. Please enter a correct operation code." I get the same error for "UPDATE" and "CREATE" and blank values for "Operation Code".
Can you please guide me on how to use the corrections window to import a failed order.
    Thanks,
    Ganapathi

I 'am not certain whether I 'am using the corrections window incorrectly or this is a bug. Please suggest. I 'am on 12.0.6. The "Import" button remains disabled and the "Validate" button always fails. Any inputs on this will be immensely helpful.
    Thanks,
    Ganapathi

  • Please help with video importing

I just got my iBook G4 so that I could make an iMovie for an event that we are having in a few weeks.
I own a Sony DCR trv330 Digital8 Handycam. I have tried everything that I have read to try to get iMovie to import my video and it still say that there is no camera attached.
Is this camera even compatable? Please help quickly.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Are there any other devices connected to the Firewire port? Sometimes this can cause a conflict.
According to the manual for the Sony TRV340, you need to go into the menu system and set the AV/DV to "On".
After that, try a different cable. After that, have you used any device on the Firewire port? It is rare but the port may be fried.

  • Help with photo import quality in iMovie!

The resolution of the iPhoto (5.0.2) pics once dragged into iMovie (5.0.4) severly deteriorates on my iMovie project. The photos are 21 inches widecrystal clear JPEGS in iPhoto, Preview and Photoshop, except once dragged onto iMovie they look blurry and pixely. My digital camera is a Sony 7.2 (shot pixs at 5M)
Playing project footage on full screen in iMovie looks this way as well. So it is not just the import still shot on the clipboard that looks bad.
How do I fix this problem to get clear quality ?

Create your iMovie project in a high quality format (choose the highest one possible) and then the pics you import will be imported in a high quality. iMovie automatically adjusts the quality of your pics and movies based on the quality of the iMovie project you are creating.
I'm not sure what you mean by "a high quality format", hlokty. Are you referring to the iMovie Playback preference, which lets you pick one of three playback settings?
If so, note that preference does NOT affect the quality of the imported image. It has no affect on the quality of project clips like video, photos, or anything else. The preference only affects playback in iMovie itself. Low quality improves the playback smoothness. High quality improves the playback image.
If should be noted that iMovie NEVER shows us all the quality that's there, for either video or photos. That must be kept in mind when viewing photos imported to iMovie. It's important to not judge quality by what you see in iMovie. iMovie is a video editor, not a video player.
There are many Topics here discussing photo quality. To find them, search for words like "blurry" and "jaggies".

  • Help with atuo-importing from finder

I am trying to set a folder action or workflow that will find images dropped into a specific folder and import them into a specific album in iPhoto 8. I found what I thought were the right choices in Automator, but when it runs, nothing is imported even though it shows the action and you can see the correct folders get highlighted and the correct album selected when it opens iPhoto.

Disregard. A quick folder action solved the issue.
