Help--XML text and Flash

Hi,
I'm relatively new to Flash and I (foolishly) said that I
could add a simple link at the end of an existing Flash file. The
link is no problem, but the movie calls all of its text from an XML
file. While I'm awed by how this works, I'm also stumped--I can't
get the movie to actually display the text. Here's the bit of
actionscript that refers to the XML file in question:

I'm pretty sure that it's finding the XML file ok, as it's
pulling one or two headings from it, but nothing else. I know this
isn't much to go on, but you guys are my only hope. Is there
something basic I'm missing?

I figured it out--the CSS called for a missing font. When I
swapped that for a font I actually have, everything worked.

XML, PHP and Flash forms

After searching several tutorials and forum posts, I still am
puzzled at how to get started on this.
I want to enable my client to upload changes to the XML file
used on his site without knowing anything about XML. He also wants
to upload images which are referenced in the XML. So, I am assuming
that I create a form that allows him to type in changes to sections
and select an image on his local drive and submit it to a PHP
script on the server which will, in turn generate/update the XML
and upload the image(s).
Is this correct or am I going about it the wrong way? Of
course, I should just tell him he'll have to pay me to update the
site. ;-) I'm really confused about how to start this whole thing
in the planning stage. I just need a little direction then I can
research the rest.

are you making this admin interface in flash then? personally

steer clear of that as it will be harder to debug - doing it
in HTML
will be much more straightforward, and if you do it right you
can change
to using a flash front end in future.
Handling file uploads in PHP is a little tricky but there are
loads of
good pages of advice on using PHP on the web. Here's a good

XML with PHP I have only done once - and I think that was
just reading
it and not writing it. Should be OK though, again, lots of
help
available online!

Flash text and flash buttons in DW CS4

Hi,
I have installed DW CS4 on my pc with Vista Home Premium 64
Bit...I have edit my website homepage and I have discovered that I
can't edit all flash text and buttons that I have created with DW
CS3! I have see that the adobe has removed from CS4 version this
option! So, now how I can resolve this problem??
I have try to install also the CS3 version but I don't
understand because I can't no more activated it from internet or
phone option!
I'm very angry for this, now I have to recreate from the
begin all flash text and buttons of my website with other software?
perhaps to buy also the Flash CS4 version for the solution? is this
the new idea of adobe with their new CS4 version?

It was a poor choice on Adobe's part to ever include such an
option, and on
your part for using it. Think about it -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
Especially
consider those people who are browsing from a corporate
internet where Flash
is not allowed by the IT staff.
2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will
not be
spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
You will have
to remake those buttons.
It's almost always a very bad idea for these reasons.
The solution is to make graphics to replace the Flash
elements, or just use
CSS styled text.

[HELP] T61, red and flashing at the bottom-left corner of LCD.

I only bought this t61 one year ago. The warranty is already expired. :-(
I found this problem 2 weeks ago. Initially, just a little bit red showed at the bottom-left corner. Today, it spread to almost half of screen and flashing at same time.
Dose anybody know what problem causes this?

Help with IE7 and flash with spry

I been working on this site for some time and still need
help. I am using xml datasets to retrive the menus. I set of menus
- MenuBar1 are weblog, about the designer, and contact which work
on pulling the data into contentDiv division. I'm doing the same
thing for portfolio MenuBar2 which is setting a variable
xmlDataPath1 and then loading in flash using swfobject 1.5 into the
flashcontent divsion. This works in Safari Mac, FF Mac, and FF PC.
What does not work is IE7, the latest one. This was working in IE7
but you would get the click to activate. I ran the IE7 earlier this
week which did away with the click to activate but now the flash is
not loading. Well I think the flash is loading but not display, if
that makes sense. I had set a alert to output the value of
xmlDataPath1 which was correct.
Now I don't know what to do next to get this to work. Anyone?

I changed up the swf code to version 2 and still have the
same
problem. For some reason IE does not read the xmlDataPath.
I've even
hard coded the value both as:
var xmlDataPath1 = 'test2';
and
flashvars.xmlDataPath = "eryx/test2/gallery.xml";
Any ideas?

Help producing text and image next to each other in output.

Hi,
I've been trying to produce a PDF and HTML version of a Highlights for Users section using FM and RH in TCS3. All of our documentation is produced in Framemaker and RH is used to produce the WebHelp output. What I would like to have is text left-justified next to an image, separated by a company-coloured line for each highlight, then same again for each highlight.
I have tried importing images into FM which are right-justified and run into paragraph, and I could probably fiddle this just for the PDF using carriage returns but I cannot get a decent RH WebHelp output.
I/m completely inexperienced in trying to produce fancier type of output and until now have only ever had to import screenshots with figure caption with text before and after. If the above is badly explained this is what I would like to see in both PDF and WedHelp

I'll try that. Would I then have to have an image restricted to the size of the Table? At the moment I restrict
the image size in PDF to the width of the page, but allow full-size images in the WebHelp output. I like this
scenario as I think that more people use the html, but from user surveys PDFs are needed for printing out.

Need help with php and flash

Hi,
hopefully anyone can help me out here I am working on a site
that has part flash and html in it. I am using php to dynamically
pull in the flash files from an includes folder. In doing so I have
uploaded everything to our preview server where I tested the site.
It works in firefox but not in the ie browsers, I thought this had
to do with active control, so I downloaded the extension but
nothing happened, still it works in firefox and not ie either 6 or
7. t

couple lines in the AC_FL_RunActiveContent embed. These 2 lines go

Importing xml text and menu

I am just trying to get my head around Flex by building a
simple application.
What I have at the moment is index.mxml that has an
ToggleButtonBar in it and a ViewStack that lists the three menu
options in the ToggleButtonBar. Clicking each of the buttons in the
ToggleButtonBar opens a new mxml either PageOne.mxml, PageTwo.mxml
or PageThree.mxml (by wiping up and down). This all works and I
have managed to style and position the elements as I want them and
I have activated the history on the 'pages'.
What I would like to be able to do is populate the ViewStack
data from an external xml file (e.g. menu.xml) . I would also like
to populate the sub-mxml files with data from another xml file
(e.g. content.xml) where this would hold the panel's title and a
paragraph of text into something like a textarea.
I have managed to populate xml data into a datagrid on
another test application, but I can't see how this can work with
panels.
Hopefully once I have grasped the basics on how Flex
applications import data I can teach myself how to progress things
to do other things.

I tried writing a tiny bit of xml - something like this:

Then a script that creates a new button (which works). But I
have tried pulling in the data from the xml file to add to the
button like this:
myButton.label = test.root.menuitem;
But it doesn't work. If I put some text in quotes it does
display. The problem is the fact that I am not pulling in the data
from the xml.
Although this isn't the code I am using, how would this
snippet of Adobe's code be adapated to add text from an xml
document to poulate the button's label?

Hi, please help about text and divided/summed cells

Here's my problem: I need that the text in a cell exceeds the right border of it, and this work ok by default.
But when you sum or divide even only a pair of cells, in all the cells of that column the text is forced into the borders.
I need to make a sheet of my guests (I work in a hotel), and the plan is this:
- every column is a day of the calendar
- every room has a row, to text in the Name of the guest and some useful info about the room type, a different color for different travel agency etc. Note that for me is very useful to read easily that info, and so the fact that the text goes in the next cells is a must have.
For the next season I was managing to complete this registry adding a new row for each room, where to put in some numerical info, for doing sums of the people I have in day per day ect.
So I was plannig to divide every cell of the second row in two cells, one for the adults in the room, one for the kids, in order to have the sum.
But when I had the second row and divide the cells the text in the upper row is forced into the cell, and also all the text in that column.
Anyone who can help me?

Here's an example, with three different ways to shot the daily total.
Totals for Jan 1 are shown in the three footer rows. Each is independent of the others, and only one would be used in practice.
Form A is a simple sum of the column: =SUM(B)
Form B separates the integer and fractional parts of the total, then recombines them into a text string:
=INT(SUM(B))&"A "&ROUND(100*(SUM(B)-INT(SUM(B))),0)&"C"
Form C does a similar separation, but treats the SUM result as a text string:
=LEFT(SUM(B),LEN(SUM(B))-3)&"A "&RIGHT(SUM(B),2)&"C"
Note that the daily counts are entered as # of adults, decimal, # of children (using two digits)
Formulas will accommodate any number of adults, and up to 99 children (total). For a higher total, revisions to the entry method (one more digit after the decimal—2.001 in place of 2.01) and to Form B (replace 100 with 1000) OR Form C formulas (replace SUM(B),2 with SUM(B),3 ).

Hello,
I want to ask if anyone knows a way to know when a flash
movie has been played completly one time in a C# form. The main
idea is to make a flash movie playlist and when a movie finish
change the activex control to the next movie in the list.

Help With text and positioning

Hi All,
If you have ever seen a website that when you drag it to be
smaller this is what my question is. No havent seen it? Well go to
good-tutorials.com and drag the window smaller, see how the text
moves so there is no scroll bar... I was wondering how to make it
so the text will move so there is no scroll bar?

I see no such effect in either FF 1.5.03 or IE 6 on XP Home.

HT4436 Icloud help with text and email???

I created an icloud account and now my text messages say that they are from my email account, and when someone sends me an email it is showing as a text? How can I fix this to indicate a text is from my cell and emails go to email not text???
