XML, PHP and Flash forms
After searching several tutorials and forum posts, I still am
puzzled at how to get started on this.
I want to enable my client to upload changes to the XML file
used on his site without knowing anything about XML. He also wants
to upload images which are referenced in the XML. So, I am assuming
that I create a form that allows him to type in changes to sections
and select an image on his local drive and submit it to a PHP
script on the server which will, in turn generate/update the XML
and upload the image(s).
Is this correct or am I going about it the wrong way? Of
course, I should just tell him he'll have to pay me to update the
site. ;-) I'm really confused about how to start this whole thing
in the planning stage. I just need a little direction then I can
research the rest.
thanks!

are you making this admin interface in flash then? personally
I would
steer clear of that as it will be harder to debug - doing it
in HTML
will be much more straightforward, and if you do it right you
can change
to using a flash front end in future.
Handling file uploads in PHP is a little tricky but there are
loads of
good pages of advice on using PHP on the web. Here's a good
place to
start as there's lots of notes by other users:
http://us2.php.net/manual/en/function.is-uploaded-file.php
XML with PHP I have only done once - and I think that was
just reading
it and not writing it. Should be OK though, again, lots of
help
available online!

Hi,
I need to display a Username in a Flash Banner in my website. The Site is PHP and the header is made in Flash. My requirement is that, when a user Logs in, his name should be displayed in the Top of the site (in the Flash banner here) like "Welcome User". Is it possible ? I have the PHP file which displays username. All I need is that to merge it to the flash banner (through actionscript, isnt it ?)
Please help me
Thanks

I am trying to do some Javascript with a Flash Form and it is
failing. I have a field with a value in the field name so I dont
have to use labels. I know with Javascript that onFocus, the field
will clear. Is that possible in a Flash Form.
DonUse actionscript, like so
<cfinput type="Text" name="txt_box" value="Initial Value"
onFocus="txt_box.text=''">
For readability the onFocus is
" txt_box.text = ' ' "

Can't get php and web form to function properly
Hello,
I have a html web form and a php code that works fine in my older website.
i just updated my site and need to transfer the code for the html form into a newly designed page.
I copied and pasted the form into the new page. The form come up and works properly except that it doesn't send the form to my email address.
Everything appears to be the same as my old page but obviously i don't have them linked properly. i've attached the code to both html files. thanks for any help. Owen

Hi,
hopefully anyone can help me out here I am working on a site
that has part flash and html in it. I am using php to dynamically
pull in the flash files from an includes folder. In doing so I have
uploaded everything to our preview server where I tested the site.
It works in firefox but not in the ie browsers, I thought this had
to do with active control, so I downloaded the extension but
nothing happened, still it works in firefox and not ie either 6 or
7. t
click
here to view the site I am working on. If you have suggestions
please let me know. I have attached the code as well for one of the
flash animations.
ThanksLooking at the source of your page, I note that you missed a
couple lines in the AC_FL_RunActiveContent embed. These 2 lines go
in the head of the page.
<script language="javascript"> AC_FL_RunContent = 0;
</script>

PHP and PDF Forms Data????
i would like to send the fields of a PDF to a PHP script hosted on my web server. (This can by configuring
SUBMIT to send the form fields to a URL - ie: www.test.com/parse.php)
this works, but i am unable to access any of the form fields inside the PHP script.
are there any examples of how to do this? perhaps there is some undocumented
environment variable that can give me a handle to the data structures that contain
the form field data.
help please!!!
robI think that the license may allow you to submit the data and create a new PDF with that data for use by the user. Be sure to read the license carefully. The tools to do this would be the FDF Toolkit for AcroForms (not those from Designer). You can probably do the same thing with Designer. In any case, you are probably talking about some programming.

Hi,
I'm relatively new to Flash and I (foolishly) said that I
could add a simple link at the end of an existing Flash file. The
link is no problem, but the movie calls all of its text from an XML
file. While I'm awed by how this works, I'm also stumped--I can't
get the movie to actually display the text. Here's the bit of
actionscript that refers to the XML file in question:
_level0.displayMode_str="loaded";
launchFile_str="advice";
launchFolder_str=""
xmlFileToLoad = "advice_AM.xml";
commonFolder_str = "./commonFiles/";
#include "loader.as"
I'm pretty sure that it's finding the XML file ok, as it's
pulling one or two headings from it, but nothing else. I know this
isn't much to go on, but you guys are my only hope. Is there
something basic I'm missing?
Thanks in advance!I figured it out--the CSS called for a missing font. When I
swapped that for a font I actually have, everything worked. -
I have a 2200px hight form. I would like the Preloader and
error message window to display in the center of the
viewport(browser) but instead displays in the center of the form
which is not in the users view at all times.
Does anyone know how to move these elements?Hi Mary,
Do your input text fields have the correct names that the PHP
is looking for?
eg...
household
water
soft
bottle
comments
namebus
address1
address2
phone
email
I dont know a whole lot about intergating PHP and Flash
mailing forms, but I remember when I started, I had this problem
too.
It's worth a try.
hope this helps. -
I'm having trouble with cfform and flash forms. The forms
work fine in IE, FF2, and Google Chrome. However for some reason
the form isn't rendering under firefox 3. If anyone could help me
out with why this is the url is here:
http://city.richbank-studios.com:81/admin
I can go directly to the cfswf file and renders fine in ff3,
but something is not right with the embedding code or something
because it won't render in the page.
Thanks
TerryI am having the same problem, Flash player 10 seems to have
broken Firefox 2, 3 and Opera...
I use the "Wimpy" flash button to stream Podcasts and Random
songs on my site's front page, and as soon as I did the flash 10
update, it stopped working for me, and many users whom I've talked
to. Still works in IE 6 and 7..
Even more funny, I created a Web Photo Gallery in Photoshop
CS2, (Flash - Gallery 2) and it doesn't work either.
Gallery is here:
http://beastiemixes.com/images2/othersites/cnc/index.htm
Podcast page is here:
http://www.beastiemixes.com/podcasts.php
On the podcast page, under "Stream" There's supposed to be
little (|>) flash play buttons. -
CF8 Flash forms nor server monitor not working on authenticated server
Have bee troubleshooting an issue with the server monitor and
flash forms not working on a CF8 server that is completely
authenticated. You can see the full thread of the issue here
http://groups.google.com/group/houcfug/browse_thread/thread/71160184e762587f?hl=en
In the pre-cf8 days, we had implemented the following "fix"
for NT Authentication with CF Templates
http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_18516
However, when I uncheck the "Check that file exists" flag in
IIS6, both the server monitor and the CFFORM type = flash are now
both working. Am I making a tradeoff between NT security and
Flash/Flex?
My question is this, is the "fix" referenced in the KB
article abonve still needed for CF8?
If so, do I have to decide between security and Flash/Flex or
is there a way to have both NT security and flash/flex on the
server?
If not, I would suggest that somebody from Adobe make an edit
to the KB article pointing out that the "Fix" is not needed for CF8
and if implemented will break the server monitor and flash forms
and Flex on that CF server.
Thanks,
MI mean when I open the administrator and click on Launch
Server Monitor it does nothing. Does not open and as far as I can
tell no error is generated or logged. If I open it outside of the
the administrator it opens but when I click on Statistics or Alerts
I get a logon Server Monitor logon box that tells me that the
ColdFusion Server is not started. -
Flash form and Database integration using PHP
One of the simpleest ways to Flash forms and data components
to interact with a MySQL Database is with the use of PHP scripts.
These scripts can be the intermediary between the Flash form and
the MySQL Database. There are some
FREE Tutorials available at
http://www.interactivewebconcepts.com
I hope this helps.
MauriceI think i found your problem.
It's a Syntax Error here you should use . instead of ,...
Subject",$CompanyName
this should work.

Subject".$CompanyName

Flash Video Player, PHP, and XML
I'm the visual designer for a web site "Global Oneness
Project" (
http://www.globalonenessproject.org/videos.php
) that's currently "streaming" progressive download quicktime
movies. The individual video pages (where you view a video) is
currently a php template that calls a MP4 from an XML file. Our
goal is to switch the embedded quicktime videos to embedded Flash
videos that play progressive download movies.
Ideally I would like to create a single Flash Video player
(SWF) thats embedded in a single php template (video.php), but will
play different videos depending on what state of the php is being
called. Basically, I want the site to work exactly like it does now
but with Flash instead of Quicktime.
I'm assuming that this will be created with some combination
of an external "AS" file, the XML data and the PHP logic but can't
even begin to get my mind around what needs to be done.
I found a few examples of how to play multiple videos in a
single player, but all of the examples use a playlist that's
embedded in the SWF. The video player will only be used for player
control and the user will choose the movie by selecting the correct
PHP page within the HTML.
I'll be thankful for any direction you all can give or even a
Flash developer who would be able to take this project on.
Thanks,
Shawn
yes, it's possible. and there are some similarities with an xml image gallery. the main difference would be using something like an flvplayback component to display the videos as opposed to using a target movieclip to display the large image in an image gallery.

PHP files and Flash contact form
Hello,
I am creating a website in flash CS4 and I made a contact form and when I test the site out, I can type and click the submit button, so everything is fine there but it doesn't go to anything. Now I know I need a code to tell the contact form where to go, but I can't find one that works, or I may be doing something wrong. I also have been reading about PHP but I am not sure what that is. I found a site that said to put this code in the actions panel.
on(release){
getURL("http://www.mail.menaceaudio.com", "", "POST");
The www.mail.menaceaudio.com is the site for the companies email.
So when I test it out this error comes up:
1087: Syntax error: extra characters found after end of program. The code you show is AS2, not AS3. Try searching for 'as3 form php' and you should find plenty of info.
PHP is a server-side scripting language. You put PHP files on your server and can then call them from Flash... -
Editing a XML file with PHP and HTML or AS2
Hi webmates...
I have been looking for a good tutorial on managing an XML
file through Flash (AS2) or HTML and PHP... but all of what I have
found at the moment are very confusing and incomplete... the
examples actually do not work ok...
Would anyone mind on addressing me any good place where I can
find nice tutorials for this ? perhaps any example ? I wil really
appreciate it, My web is already reading the XML file to load
data... but I also need to create an application for editing this
XML... thanx in advance...I have no experience with any decompilers beyond possibly attempting to trial one once. The only one I have seen recommended is made by Sothink.
Here is a link to a page with a tool that has an interface you can use to determine various properties of an swf file, including the Actionscript version.
