Here's the deal...

I have once again spoken to Apple IT department, and they told me "if people are having issues with the newest upgrade, they need to call us directly". Ok I told him...I am calling you, how do I fix it? His answer...I don't know. We didn't know about this. I say yeah right. So everybody...CALL APPLE support and let them know that THERE IS A PROBLEM with the latest upgrade. The number is listed on the contact us section of the website. Please CALL THEM!!!!

If you can't tell by the thousand or so post, there is a configuration problem with the last itunes update. Depending on your computer, it will effect you in different ways and give you various "error codes". AS far as your request for me to identify the problem , I have no idea...that is for Apple to figure out.

  • So here is the deal. I have purchased a new iPad 3-32 GB and i was trying to sync it with my windows-7 computer. The device option doesn't appear in the I-tunes. What could be the possible problem and how can this be resolved.

Also the ipad is not yet connected to any internet connection but the computer is connected to LAN. I am in desperate need for answers and some guidance.

  • Here's the deal with 1-gen AppleTV and iTunes Store...

Okay folks, since Apple remains mum on the subject and I finally found a solution that works for me, I thought I'd share.
As far as I can tell, the issue lies with the "live" elements of the menus ("Top TV Shows", etc.) that were introduced in version 3 of the software, as I recall. Apparently, the method that the older units use to get that information no longer works, so the unit endlessly tries to reconnect. This causes playback to stutter terribly, as well as slowing down menu navigation to a crawl.
Now, unfortunately, if your AppleTV shipped with version 3 or later, you might be out of luck. I believe one poster has suggested that using Parental Controls to restrict access to the iTunes Store might solve the issue, and I guess if it also turns off the suggestions above the menus, that might actually work.
Since my unit shipped with version 2.4, I was able to simply do a Factory Restore, which should work for anyone with a pre-v3 AppleTV (make sure all your content is saved elsewhere first). The caveat to this is that I can no longer access the iTunes Store (except Trailers), but if you own a first-gen AppleTV, you can pretty much kiss the iTunes Store goodbye anyway. The other problem is that my YouTube account (Subscriptions, Favorites, etc.) doesn't work, probably because so much has changed with YouTube since the introduction of the AppleTV. Come to think of it, it might have been YouTube issues that forced me to upgrade to v3 in the first place.
Anyway, I hope this helps, and I hope Apple doesn't remove this post. Obviously it's possible that they will do something to fix the issue (and it should be quite easy), but my experience tells me this won't happen. So, we have lost one of our big advantages over the newer models (being able to BUY instead of just rent), but we STILL have what I consider the most important advantage, and that is being able to sync content to the AppleTV and store it.
Thanks for reading, folks... good luck!

I have a Gen 1 ATV - Software 3.02.  Worked like a champion - odd bit of stutter lately but otherwise good.  iTunes V 11.1.5 running on MBPro.
Since 17 April 2014 I have been unable to see iTunes store on ATV interface - only showing My Movies and Trailers option.  No Search or other options.  Selecting Trailers option gives a jittery display that keeps resetting itself.  It is not possible to play a trailer from that screen.
    Same for TV Shows.
    YouTube working fine.
Music cannot see my shared library, nor does it list the music already synced.
On my MBP (where the shared iTunes library lives) I can no longer sync anything to my ATV.  Movies, TV Shows and Music have disappeared as options.
Full factory restore of ATV had no effect.  No option to selectively synch TV Shows, Movies or music is available from within the iTunes interface.
Deleting ATV from my devices in iTunes, then adding it again had no effect.
As Apple have not yet deemed a response is necessary to the rapidly increasing number of inquiries about this issue, I will take the problem in person to the Genius Bar and post their response into this forum within the next 48 hours.

  • Anyone here use the Camera / Framing behavior?

I have a project with a few video clips in a 3d group. When I set one of the clips as the target of a camera's framing behavior, it doesn't frame the target. Rather, something waythehell off in z space. Sometimes the framing does catch the right target, but on export or re-opening the file it won't be aligned. These framing behaviors are assigned to one camera, not overlapping in the timeline. Bug or human error?

I can't be exactly sure this is your problem (not enough info,) but I have been able to recreate the problem you're describing, somewhat.
Here's the deal -- Framing behaviors need to be "discreet". By this, I mean they should not overlap each other. If you have 2 or more framing behaviors on 2 or more clips (which play at the same time, or IN the same time) and they all exist for the entire durations of the clips, Motion is going to try to do them all at once... and that can lead to the middle of space sometimes ( ) [cross-positioning leads to averaging of values].
Anyway, the other thing that has to happen is that the framing behaviors must be stacked in order, the lowest occuring earliest and the highest to be the last.
You can use I and O to create trim points for just the behaviors and slide them into the time positions at which they need to start.
Once all the framing behaviors are separated into their own "time" and stacked in order of "play" then all your framing problems should resolve.
The thread you referenced has nothing to do with any of this, and if that was an issue in a former release of Motion (version 4 judging by the date), it seems to have been fixed (default transition is set to Constant now and seems to work quite well.)

  • What's The Deal With Ram?

I just got my MBP with 4g's of RAM after working with a PB 512 RAM.
    So here's the deal. I still get the spining wheel often when opening and closing programs; render and export time is similar in FCP and iMovie;
and here's the clincher-when I check Activity Monitor during "RAM Intensive"
functions, it's like 2-3 gigs green.
I'm begining to feel as if RAM is not what it's cracked up to be?
    Am I wrong?

The best answer/explaination is that it really depends upon what you are doing. A couple of examples and a rule of thumb:
First the OS must have enough RAM to do its job. I'm not sure what the value is but Apple is selling MBPs with 2g of RAM. Lets say that is what is required to allow the OS to function and "typical" programs to run.
When you run a program it needs to be loaded into RAM. If there is free RAM then it will go there. If not then the OS does what is called swapping. It takes parts of programs and code that are not currently needed and moves them to a special disk file and then it loads your program into RAM and it begins running.
This swapping process is usually one of the slowest things Mac OS can do. If it has to happen at some point you generally see it with spinning beachballs and bouncing icons in the dock. Your computer is not dead, it is just working really hard to make space.
If you want to see this happen, open the program Activity Monitor and look at the memory usage and watch it change as you open more and more programs.
Adding RAM makes the need to swap much more rare.
But no matter how much RAM you have, how fast your processor is, all things still must go through the disk system. If you are loading big batches of data then it will take time.

You haven't purchased apps with multiple Apple ID's have you? If you have, you can only sync with one Apple ID in the iTunes library at a time. Whichever ID you are signed into on the computer and the iPad would determine which apps would sync.
Have all of your apps been transferred into iTunes for your iPad?

What is the deal with people posting their personal information on here?
I am getting sick and tired of clicking the "Report this Post" button.

    It's starting to get frustrating.

On my iPhone 5, upgraded to iOS 7, the lists in Reminders are impossible to delete.  When I press Edit button in the right corner of the app, the button Delete list is supposed to be at the bottom, but it's empty there, the deal is I could delete some of the lists, but most of them I can't. I tried delete iCloud account from iPhone, but they are still there, and still no Delete button. In the Browser I don't see those lists, so cannot delete them from the Browser as well. Could you help me?

  • The dealer changed our plan without letting us know about disadvantage.

An authorized dealer changed our plan without letting us know what is going to be changed, and we didn't even know they are changing our plan on new contract, we just found out, they do not want to answer. I want to know if we can get back our old plan, as the contract was signed under false information.
This is the story happened today:
My mom, is the master holder of our VZW account, we've been using verizon for years and years, and we first got our smartphone when Verizon just started selling iphone 4, we ordered it online when it was just released.
The plan we had was family plan with unlimited data.
We did not used data that much for the most of the time, but we did used it a lot for some month - thanks to unlimited plan.
We were trying to keep our unlimited data plan, even when my mom lost her iphone 4, she didn't connect with her old phone (not the smart one) so that our unlimited data plan would not be changed.
The dealer we made contract for iphone 4 has moved, or disappeared, i don't know, so my mom had to find another verizon dealer who speaks Korean,
because she doesn't speak English at all - but she's the one who take care of the bills and this kind of stuffs as she has more available time than me.
I wanted iphone 5 when it was released, but wasn't really sure about paying for it to get upgraded because iphone 4 was doing pretty well enough for me.
Then she found this dealer in Korea Town ( Ultimate Wireless - at 6th), and she told me that they could get us the newest smartphone only for $75 -
iphone 5 for me, and Samsung note 3 for her.
I was like - 'Samsung maybe offer some sort of special rate, but I'm pretty sure Apple wouldn't sell their just-newly-released-phone for much low price than 2yr contract price.'
and my mom was like ' i don't know but they said they can do it for sure' - so i was like Ok, why not .
I guess that's about an year and half ago.
Now iphone 6 is here, and i looked up on my verizon account and Sadly, my contract ends next May or something.
So I told my mom about Verizon's iphone trade-in offer and I feel  sad about that I am not eligible for it right now.
My mom happened to visit this dealer again to add a new line in our plan, and she asked about that trade-in offer and mention that her daughter (me)
is sad that she is not eligible.
And that evening, my mom told me that they said they can do this trade-in thing for me.
and i was like what? how?
and she was like 'how do i know? they said they can do it so just told me to bring the old phone'
Well my mom, is 54 years old Korean born woman, who doesn't know about technology, English, or any complicated stuffs.
She doesn't even know what the term 'trade-in' means, so that I even had to explain her like it's an offer from verizon you give them old iphone 4 or above, and they give you $200 certificate. But only for new 2yr contracts.
She was like 'well, she said she ordered it already so just go pick it up'
She normally picks up the phone for me (since she's always around K-town, but im not) but today, I happened to have free time on afternoon, and she had some appointment so I had to go visit the dealer to pick up the phone.
So I went in, they were nice and kind, recognized my mom by mentioning her name.
She, the dealer, was a bit busy helping out other customer so I had to wait for a while -
While i was waiting for her, I just looked around inside of the store - like TV screens promoting new phones, and new plans and stuffs.
Finally she got back to me and brought out the iphone 6 from back -
    and she was like
'Not sure if you know, but your contract has not been end - so it's going to be like returning and getting back with the EDGE' (speaking Korean)
If i didn't see the 'EDGE' plan stuffs from the TV screen, i probably would just go ok- ok- ok- thanks.
But when she just mentioned 'EDGE', i felt something is not right.
so I asked her, what exactly the 'EDGE' is, and what is being changed.
she hesitated a bit -and said
'Um... so you now have 6 GB data.. and ..'
i was like what? no no. we have unlimited data plan since our very first smartphone - and we never changed plan and tried keep the plan when even we lost one of our phone.
    then she was like
    "um...but..it seems like it changed.."
SO i asked When did it changed.
and she was like "i don't know. But you guys use only 3GB anyway"
I was like ' well, that's not important how much we actually use our data. the thing is we never changed our plan to keep the unlimited data plan'
and she just ignored it and move to next issue - setting up the new iphone 6 for my number.
she was like 'You don't need to give us the old phone. the payments will be billed to your statement and it's going to be.."
She was saying everything quickly and just briefly in Korean. She sounds like YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE PHONE.
I didn't even know there is such thing like payment plan for buying a phone BEFORE I saw it on TV SCREEN while i was waiting.
And those promoting screens was made in English, while most of their customers are Korean who doesn't know English much.
and i was like "what? what payment? Are you saying I don't have to pay for the phone OR are you saying I'm paying for the phone every month?"
She was like " uh... I mean.. there's certain payment amount you are paying for iphone 5 currently, and this plan, there will be about $10 difference for the phone payment...and.."
I'm a person who raised in Korean till highschool I speak Much better Korean than English, but I was hard to understand what she was exactly saying
because she was saying everything so complicated.
So I tried to clarify: "Ok. so this phone - I am not getting it for free. Right?"
then she was like 'uh...yes - it's now free but you don't have to pay anything right now'
So I clarified again " so that means, I'm buying the phone. not free. right?"
and she was like "uh..but it's not that you buy this right now. It's about $30... so.."
She then was saying this very unclearly so that she sounded like the phone only costs $30.
"then why did you tell my mom that you can to trade-in deal for me?" I asked.
then she was like "I didn't tell her I can do trade-in. It's not trade-in"
So I told her" OK, as you know, she doesn't know about anything about this kind of stuffs. she doesn't even know the word 'trade-in' in English. She said she asked you about we bringing you the old phone and you get us $200 gift card so we would use that card to buy iphone 6 and she told me that you said YES YOU CAN DO IT, SO BRING THE IPHONE 4"
She paused for a while, and I asked her again "and what's up with the change of plan? Our plan was unlimited data. Did you tell my mom about changing the plan? If she knew plan's being changed, she would not do this with you, or she always asks me before signing a contract if there's any change. All i remember is you are getting us decent phones only for $75. How can you explain about this?"
I was amazed after hearing her answer
    "I don't know"
and her kind attitude was gone, she was like 'i don't have nothing to do or say'
I was so mad, told her to cancel the iphone 6, and I just left the store.
I'm not a person related to the law, but I've met some lawyer few times with my friends, and I remember hearing this story about fraud -
although the customer signed the contract on a stack of paper with small letters saying all about the terms and condition -
if the customer was been told differently than the actual contract info by seller, and the seller took advantage from it, then that could be counted as fraud.
I felt so conned and so sorry for my mom. I told her the story and she's mad, too.
My mom and I will look up the old statement and check records to see if we were paying for our phone during current contract and visit the dealer again if we find something odd.
But as from the story above, the dealer goes like she doesn't know anything about plan changes (even it was something she did) - so I don't really wanna talk about it with her.
So I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to go back to our old plan in the case when the plan was changed without user's acknowledgement.
Sorry to let you read this long story, sorry about temper.. but does anybody have idea on this sort of cases?

yes I knew it was too good to be true, so i was worried but their answer was don't worry it can be done, we are the authorized dealer.
If they fully told us about it, I wouldn't even upgrade my phone and just kept it up with my iphone 4 which I think is still working good for me.
ahh... I just feel so bad
I mean i might be ok with 6gb as we actually don't use that much for the most of the time, but still. This is wrong.
And they tried to do exactly same thing again. and just ignored the issue when I brought it up.
The reason I'm mad and want to get back my old plan is mainly because I feel we've been conned and lost something that we would not have lost without knowing it - and they knew about it all but hid it.
I don't know.. not just about losing the plan... but I think this is so wrong.

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

  • I can't see my screen! What's the deal?

Oh yeah, hi everyone. I'm new to the forums.
So yeah, I have an ibook g4 that I use almost every day. It's fairly new (not quite 7 months) and it's already having problems. I've dealt with Apple and their product service before with my iPod, and i'm sorry, but their customer service ***** badly. I'm dreading calling them tomorrow because I know nothing is really going to get taken care of.
But anyway, I turn on my laptop today and my screen is so dark I can barley make out anything. It's just bright enough that when I hold it at the right angle I can see my wallpaper, but not bright enough to see any details of it or to actually be able to DO anything on my computer. I tried the obvious; turning up my screen brightness but that didn't work. I restarted my laptop and that didn't work. So right now i'm on my roomie's computer. It's the weirdest thing ever, there's nothing wrong with the computer. It's terribly dark but I can see just enough to know that the computer is working fine, I just can't see anything. Sometimes I can see my arrow curser if I move it into the right light.
I don't know what the deal is, I haven't done anything to it. Nothing's been spilled on it and it hasn't been dropped, so I don't know what could make this happen.
The big problem is there isn't any place around here to take it to see what's wrong with it. So that's why i've come to this forum trying to figure out what the deal is. Am I being too vauge or does everyone know what i'm trying to explain?
Sorry my thoughts are so scattered, i'm pretty mad right now so i'm not thinking straight lol.

A little update: I called Apple support today and once again got no help whatsoever. Big surprise. The guy on the phone was nice, but when I asked him if my warranty would cover a repair on my backlight he said that it wouldn't because our warranty only lasted 90 days. Then he spent the rest of the phone conversation trying to pawn off the Applecare on me. No solutions offered at all.
I had the protection plan for my LAST ibook and it did me no good, why should I pay for it again when I still had to pay $900 to repair my last one? Plus the $183 dollars to buy the ******* thing.
I hate acting like such a diva, and I don't like badmouthing Apple on their own site, but this is ********. I'm tired of dealing with Apple's horrible products and even worse customer service. I've spent thousands of dollars on their products and have yet to be satisfied. I will never buy another apple product again.
The worst part is I don't think apple cares.

  • What is the deal with the Zen Aurvana headphones?

Can anyone explain this to me? (Please note that I am a review addict, and look at reviews before buying anything so I don't make a regretful choice. One of the things that sealed my decision on the Zen was the 8.3 from CNET.)
I've been deciding to upgrade from the Zen's EP-480 set for a few weeks now, and it's a tossup between the Aurvana and the EP-630.
Problem is, everywhere seems to report that the Aurvana is very average. Looking at customer reviews on retail sites and media critics, they all barely rate the Aurvana above average. Looking in the same sources at the EP-630, it has a close to perfect score from various ones.
Now, here's what blows my mind. I stumble upon Creative's European site, and the reception for the Aurvana is better than the EP-630 set. Other countries seem to love the Aurvana more than the EP-630, while the US does not. See for yourself:

I use it quite a bit for zooming in and out (by dragging up and down) but you have to be careful you don't move left or right when doing this as it then becomes a bit unpredictable as you say...
If you just want to use the playhead for dragging left and right (and if you can't find a pref to turn it off) you'll just have to be careful to drag only in the horizontal axis and not up or down..

  • I can't hear when video chatting, whats the deal?

I live far away from my friend, and we video chat. Sometimes I can't hear her, but she always hears me! Everything says that audio is fine, and connection is great but I still can't hear her. WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT?

    Hi,
Lets talk  in broad terms first.
For a Buddy to hear you the Mic as to be connected and turned On in iChat
Taking that it is going to be an Internal Mic we can presume it is connected.
In iChat it is turned On in the Video menu (It will read Audio if you have no camera) and is the one to the right of the Buddies menu.
In here, Microphone Enabled (Or Audio Chat Enabled in  Lion) needs to be ticked.
The Mic then needs to be chosen in System Preferences > Sound > Input AND in iChat as the input/Microphone choice.
In iChat the choice is made in iChat menu > Preferences > Video/Audio Section > Microphone drop down.
In the System Preferences > Sound > Input the volume has to be high enough for you to be heard.
This tends to be a setting that moves the blue bars to about 3/4s of the way across. (At least 1/2 way and not banging in to the right hand end when you talk)
If you are doing things in other apps that use the mic differently or even a different Mic you may have problems if you don't manually change things back for iChat.
    So...
Transferring this to the Other end, your Buddy may not have the Mic on.
May have been doing something else Audio-wise and not changed things back.
May have reduced the volume for Input for another App and not reset it.
She may also have issues with the OS "Seeing" the Mic
She should check the System Profiler (Information in Lion) and see if in Hardware > USB the mic shows up
You can access this from the Apple Icon Menu and holding the ALT key down.
If it does not show up here then a SMC/PMU reset may be in order.

So, scouring the internet it appears that some people are getting some secret HBO promotion. So, as someone who has had FIOS for 4+ years, I'd like to know how were these people chosen for this promo?

    - implement class B
    - have a field of class B's type or
    - use class B in any of its methods signatures
then class B would not be loaded unless the localised code that uses it was executed.
However, I am of course finding that this is not the case.
    So what's the deal?
Why are my classes being loaded when there's no code that uses them?

Okay, prepare for some gory details...
My actual code is slightly more complicated than A & B, but the context of the error is the same.
    Here is what's happening:
    The main method, in class A is creating an instance of A;
    The constructor of A creates an instance of B;
    The constructor of B calls a static method in C;
The static method in C creates an instance of C.
C contains an instance method M that creates an instance of inner class C.C1, however method M is NOT called from C's constructor, nor will it EVER be called in the (test) application.
    Class C.C1 implements interface D.D1.
Neither of classes D or D.D1 are in the classpath (intentionally).
A NoClassDefFoundError is thrown, indicating that D.D1 could not be loaded, with the top method on the stack trace being (from memory) B.<init> (i.e. no mention of C, the only class that refers to D or D.D1).
My assumption was that C.C1 should never be loaded, because it is never used, or that, if it was loaded eagerly, no exception should be thrown until a point at which it is used.
Seeing as the inner classes and the inheritance can complicate things above, I commented out the code that uses C.C1 and D.D1, which results in the following sequence of events (which still fail):
    The main method, in class A is creating an instance of A;
    The constructor of A creates an instance of B;
    The constructor of B calls a static method in C;
The static method in C creates an instance of C.
    Difference is here:
C contains an instance method M that creates an instance of class D, however method M is NOT called from C's constructor, nor will it EVER be called in the (test) application.
Class D does not appear in any method signatures or as a field type.
Class D is not in the classpath (intentionally).
A NoClassDefFoundError is thrown, indicating that D could not be loaded, with the top method on the stack trace being B.<init> (i.e. no mention of C, the only class that refers to D).
Again, my assumption is that D should never be loaded, because the only method that uses it is never called.
Why is the JVM attempting to load D and telling me that it can't find it when the application never actually uses D?
    Crazy stuff!
