HERMES 845GV questions

Hello everybody. I 've just bought a HERMES 845GV with a 2.8GHz P4 and 512MB Kingston PC266 DDR RAM. Some questions:
-Can I drive a CRT monitor through the DVI port with an adapter? (I have another one on the VGA port)
-I can't shut the thing down from within Windows (XP Pro SP1). Basicaly, windows do shut down but the computer is left running. I have to keep pressing the power button to kill it. Would anybody know anything about that?
-Is it supposed to be that noisy? I don't know which fan is making all that noise, but at times it gets very disturbing.
Thanks.

yes, you need a DVI-to-VGA adaptor, but you'll need to check if your display hardware will support dual monitor display
as for your shutdown problem, in the BIOS settings, ensure that ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is enabled. if it is, can you hear a click after windows has shutdown, as if the power should be turned off? i had a similar problem like that where the PSU would "click" to power off, but it all stayed running. the PSU was faulty - i replaced it and it all worked fine

  • Hermes 845GV delivered with wrong airflow??

Can anybody shed a light on this? What is the history with the Hermes cooling system. First there was the 845GL with fan duct, guiding cpu heat out, towards the double exhaust fans on the side.
Now, with my newly delivered 845GV, there is no air duct, but moreover the side fans were taking cool air into the case, and the CPU fan was sucking the air through the heatsink, blowing the hot air into the case right under the PCI cards.
Of course I didn't even try this "hot" new idea, but reversed the fans right away.
Who can confirm which is the right way to organise the airflow within the Hermes? Many thanks!!

Hi Videoz, thanks for the reply. Really strange that my unit had the opposite fan direction. Did you find anything unusual with your Hermes 845GV's? I got mine 2 weeks ago through Alternate. That with the PSU doesn't sound promising. What's the potential damage if that happens when i'm not around? does the PSU shut itself down when overheating?
For the time being it is doing fine. More noisy than I expected but under the sofa i barely hear it (pc under sofa -- not me...). the only annoying thing is that TV-out and VGA do not work simultaneously (at least not with 640x480) and after every restart/resume from S3 the TV-out image jumps slightly outside my TV screen due to some strange move in the Intel VGA utility settings. When I click on "defaults" it is OK again...

  • Hermes 845GV Power Problems

I have a Hermes 845GV system.  Every night it goes into standby.  In the morning I hit any key and it resumes.  This morning it did not resume so I hit the power button and made the system reset.  Instead of resetting the system shut off and would not turn back on.  It seems that there is no power getting to the system at all because the intergrated NIC on the back doesn't flash as it usual does and the mouse isn't lite up like it usually is even when the sytem is off?
I know there is power coming from the wall.  Everything else plugged into that outlet works (monitor/speakers/lamp).  I have also tried resetting the BIOS by switching the jumper as instructed in another section on this forum and then waiting and switching it back.
Is there anything else I should try before trying a different power supply?

    Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with PSU fans in these machines?
We've had a run of failures lately - I think the bearings in these fans are not very good
Mind you, the systems are failing after about a year of permanent running, but we hadn't experienced this problem with the older 6215 barebones.
Incidentally, the plug-with-a-fuse design mentioned by Wonkanoby is generally only found in the United Kingdom (and a few former colonies, e.g. Hong Kong I think). I think it's a by-product of the UK "Ring Mains" power wiring method, which involves heavier wiring and larger capacity switchboard fuses, so you need a smaller fuse to protect each individual appliance.

  • Hermes 845GV-Lite - 2 ddr rams don't work

I have a Hermes 845GV-Lite and I have made sure I have the correct RAM ddr pc2100 266mz ddr sdram and I have bought 2 sets a 256 and a 512 both work indidually but together and windows crashes every time ... Both rams are kingston and both work fine when put in on there own but not together .... although the ram test at the begining of startup finds both chips..... What can I do to sort this out ???
Is it a windos problem?? Please help...
    Thanks

I must say that MSI mobos are very sensitive when RAMs are mixed, especially when they are working under different RAM CAS timings. Check what is the similar timings between both RAMs and set your DDR Timings to that value. Try to increase your DDR Voltage to 2.7v also.
Next, it will be better if you pos your Full system specs + PSU specs amps.

  • Hermes 845GV Lite Power Supply

Does anyone know where I can source a small number of replacement power supplies that are in the Hermes 845GV Lite barebone machines.
I have about 45 of them on a client site and a couple are begining to show signs of problems that appear to be PSU related.
The PSU is made be Delta Electronics and the part number is DPS-200PB-138 A
Any help or advise would be most welcome.

if you cannot find a suitable MicroATX PSU to replace it, your first port of call should be your nearest MSI office, they should be able to supply you some

  • CPU fan isn't working on Hermes 845GV full and Lite

    well
i have here an hermes 845GV and when i switch it on, the cpu fan starts for about half an second and stops then, same problem with the lite version.
so, can this problem be solved or do i have to send it back to msi? (both comps are new)
    thx schBORG

it works fine, except the cpu fan isn't working, it only starts for about half a sec when u switch it on, when u connect the cable with the plug for the 2 side fans it works fine, but when the cpu fan isn't working, the cpu gets too hot and the computer crashes, and so the os installation is destroyed, that's the reason why i found that problem

Here's a few things to try. Some of them are long shots, but if you're desperate....
Make sure the 6-way ribbon cable from the front panel is plugged in properly.
Watch the HDD LED - should come on briefly, go off for a few seconds, then start flashing a lot when it starts booting. There's always a possibilty that the system is working, you just can't see the pictures for some reason.
Try unplugging all the drives (especially power leads) and see if you can get to BIOS. Then plug things back in until you can't.
Oh, and expect the PSU fan to fail after about a year
    Cheers

  • General Question on Firevault Encryption

    Hi all,
    1. With an encrypted home folder, does that mean any files saved from my computer to say a USB stick to be transfered to another computer are all encrypted too (hence cannot be opened)? (If so an encrypted Mac is like a non-workable hermit Mac...)
    2. Does FireVault block or fail the UPloading of a torrent? Or does it slow down torrenting?
    3. If I had not back up the filed Before encrypting, and only save a back up of my files After encryption, am i saving an encrypted version of them which cannot be opened anywhere else?
(Hence to have the original files, it is imperative to do back up before encryption?)
    4. Can the encryption be easily reversed? I know we can just turn it off again but will it leave any damage/residue etc anything to the original files?
    5. I read from the warning pane that we cannot even do printer sharing??? Meaning we cannot print even with our private printers?
    6. Can an encrypted Mac do file sharing or screen sharing with another Mac both of which I have the master password? But both of them have a different version of OS X.
    Thank you "-)

    1. No.
    2. FV only affects files within your Home folder.
    3. A backup of a Home folder while in use is not encrypted or secure. You must be logged out before making such a backup so the backup will be of the encrypted disc image.
    4. Yes, just turn off FV. An unencrypted version of your Home folder will be written to the hard drive, then the encrypted disc image is removed. This requires sufficient space on the hard drive to save two copies of the Home folder - the unencrypted and the encrypted - until the decryption has finished.
    5. Not familiar with any effect on printer sharing or printing.
That was five questions, not one.

  • Hermes 650 MS-6535 won´t support multimonitor in W2k

    Hi,
i have trouble setting up the Hermes-650P Barebone running in Multimonitor mode. The driver mode dialog only offers 'single' and 'mirror'. The item 'Multimonitor' is missing.
I´ve tried some different driver versions, with no success (both, drivers from msi.com.tw and sis.com, and the driver CD shipped with the box of course). The multimonitor option ist still missing.
The problem don´t occur if running Windows XP Prof.
    Setup:
    MS-6232
    System BIOS v1.1
    Windows 2000 Prof SP3
    Display Driver v5.13.1.2081 (v5.13.1.2079 won´t work either)
    Processor: Intel Celeron 2.0GHz, FSB 400, BX80532RC2000B
    RAM: Infineon 256MB PC333 CL2.5 32Mx64, HYS64D32309GU-6
    HDD: Seagate ST340810A
    CD-ROM: Benq CP-652A 52x, 99.B4511.603
    Slim FDD FD3238T
hope anyone can give some hints

    Hi Helmut,
If "multimonitor" mode means different pictures on different outputs, I didn't realise the Hermes 650 supported that mode without adding an extra video card. Which 2 outputs did you use when it worked under XP Pro?
I can't offer any suggestions for this problem, but you might be able to answer a question I have (Hermes posts are quite rare on this forum)
I have found with both Hermes 650 and Hermes 845, that 2D graphics performance is bad - for example the Screen Saver "Marquee" scrolling message is jerky and 50% slower than on a number of older systems. CPU speed, RAM size and BIOS settings don't seem to make any difference.
Have you noticed any problem with graphics speed? I would be interested to hear from any fellow Hermes users.

  • Questions on Print Quote report

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to Oracle Quoting and trying to get familiar with it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone answers them
    1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
    2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.
    http://<host>:<port>/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?PROJ03_APPS+report=/proj3/app/appltop/aso/11.5.0/reports/US/ASOPQTEL.rdf+DESTYPE=CACHE+P_TCK_ID=23731428+P_EXECUTABLE=N+P_SHOW_CHARGES=N+P_SHOW_CATG_TOT=N+P_SHOW_PRICE_ADJ=Y+P_SESSION_ID=c-RAuP8LOvdnv30grRzKqUQs:S+P_SHOW_HDR_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_LINE_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_HDR_SALESUPP=N+P_SHOW_LN_SALESUPP=N+TOLERANCE=0+DESFORMAT=RTF+DESNAME=Quote.rtf
Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
    3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
    4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
    Thanks and Appreciate your patience

I think I posted it in one of the threads2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

No, there is no conc program getting called, you can directly call a report in a browser window, Oracle reports server will execute the report and send the HTTP response to the browser.4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.

  • Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty

    HI EVERYBODY
I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.
    chears
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
I have already found you other threads.
    Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.

  • Anyone know how to remove Overdrive books from my iphone that have been transferred from my computer? They do not show up on itunes. I see a lot of answers to this question but they all are based on being able to see the books in iTunes.

How do I remove Overdrive books from the library that were downloaded onto my computer then transferred to my iphone? The problem is that they do not show up in iTunes.
I see this question asked a lot when I google, but they always give answers that assumes you can find the books in iTunes either under the books tab, or the audio books tab or in the music. They do not show up anywhere for me. They do not remove from the app like the ones I downloaded directly onto my iphone.the related archived article does not answer it either.  I even asked a guy working at an apple store and he could not help either.   Anybody...?
    Thanks!

there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory

  • Basic question

Hello, i have a basic question. if i have defined 2 fields in a cube or a dso:
    Name Quantity
and from the external flat file i get some characters for my quantity field. would my load fail?  for standard dso and for write optimized?
NOTE: quantity field is a keyfigure defined as numeric.
and the load coming in has "VIKPATEL" for Quantity field and not numbers.
    thanks

    Hi Vik,
    Yes, the load will fail.
May be you coud first load this data into BW (into PSA) and set both fields as characters fields. Then you can create DSO, do transformation from this PSA to the DSO, and put your logic as to what do you want to do with those Quantity that is not number (e.g. convert to 0, or 'Not assgined', etc).
You can use transfer rule, or a clean up ABAP code in the start routine.
    Hope this helps.
