Heterogeneous clustering with WinNT and Solaris machines.

          Hi All,
I've deployed my applications on two WinNT machines which are running in cluster with iWS41. as proxy
server. The shared directory for this clustering is residing on one of these NT machine. I want to put one more
Solaris machine in this clustering. Can anybody suggest me, how the new Solaris machine will access that
shared directory residing on another WinNT machine in LAN, I'm new to Solaris, I also want to know that will
there be any issues regarding this heterogeneous environment for clustering.
          Regards,
          Jitendra Kumar.

          Hi,
If m/c on which shared directoy is, goes
down, all WLS running in cluster will report the problem.
Further WLS may stop unless and untill shared directory is
          available again.
Mind it, all WLS should be of same version and same SP on all
for running in cluster perfectly and also same EJBs version
on all m/c if u go for same EJBs copies on all m/c and not using
          shared directory.
          Regards,
          Jitendra.

  • Installation with Oracle and Solaris 9

    Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to install EP 6.0 sp8 with WAS 6.40 (java) on a Oracle 9.2.0.4 DB and Solaris 9 OS.
I have installed this EP version with SQL/Win without problems, but now I have several errors.
Somebody has installed this successfully ?   Any clue would be helpful.
I have 2 errors by the moment:
    1) ERROR at line 1:
       ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)
       ORA-06512: at line 17
    2) Some problem related with network adapters (My server has 4 network adapters)
thanks a lot for your help !
    Regards from Mexico,
    Diego Hernández

    Hi Diego,
you should edit the /etc/hosts file.
Change the frontend ip adress to the servername and delete other entries for this ip adress(eg XXX-b,XXXX-c).
Start a new installation(even Database)->then you won't get different profile Startup Scripts.

  • On The Road Syncing with iPhone and 2nd Machine

    Simple one (i hope)
I'm on the road for two months and the iTunes I sync my iPhone to is at home on my iMac. I have my Macbook and my iPhone with me and would love to sync podcasts and get the new iPhone update. I know all my mobile me cloud stuff is ok (mail, address, calendar etc), but am I risking losing anything off my phone if I sync? What are the other potential hazards?

And you have verified that it is associated to a calendar that is also associated on the other device,
such as work, personal, holidays. you can have many calendars and they don't have to be associated the same on all of your devices.
Open Calendar and click the word Calendar to see which ones are associated and on for each device

  • Issues with Samba and Solaris 10 when number of group is greater than 16

Has anyone heard if Sun plan to increase the value of ngroups_max from 16 to something larger in the next release of Solaris.
I have just upgraded Samba from version 3.2 to 3.3-3.4 and now users that belong to more than 16 groups have no access the shares.
I know the value can be increased via /etc/system but this breaks other stuff.
What I need is either Samba to take this limitation into account or SUN to overcome the restriction.

After some more digging around to help myself, I found a way to get users that belong to more than 16 Windows groups access to the Samba shares under Solaris.
Using a source copy of Samba 3.2.15
    cd source/lib
    edit util.c
around line 460 I added the following of lines of code:
    if (*num_gids >14)
    *num_gids=15;
Provided the users in question that require Samba access have the group they need within the first 15 groups, all works OK.
I presume this could also be done with latter versions of Samba, but I have not taken a look at this point.

  • 2 external hard drives with iTunes and Time Machine

    Hi folks.
My 160gb hard drive on my iMac is full so I've bought 2 x 1tb external hard drives, my plan being to move my iTunes library to one of them (as this uses the majority of space) and run it from there and use the 2nd hard drive with Time Machine.
My question is this, will Time Machine backup any changes to my iTunes library if it isn't on the computer's internal hard drive?
    Thanks!
    Brian

Just be sure the iTunes volume is formatted +Mac OS Extended (Journaled).+ Most drives come formatted for Windoze, and TM can't back them up.
See #1 in [Formatting, Partitioning, Verifying, and Repairing Disks|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Using Snow Leopard+ forum) if you need to reformat and aren't sure how.

  • Trouble with itunes and time machine

i am having trouble with my iphone and thought it may have been itunes, so i went into time machine and tried to replace my current version of itunes with the last one. Everything went fine until i got right to the end of replacing it. it said i didnt have the authorization to do that...or something along those lines... now i cant even open itunes, ill click on it and it just bounces once and thats it. can anyone help me!?

I haven't been able to back up to my FreeAgent external hard drive
The TM disk is your backup destination and I assume it is the Seagate FreeAgent disk. The source is your Mac.
Wireless. I have a Seagate FreeAgent external hard drive plugged in by USB to the mac.
You say it is connected via USB, yet your are saying backups are done wirelessly.
From Terminal, can you post the output of tmutil destinationinfo (remove any personal information as you see fit)?

  • Help with Recovery and Time machine

So a friend of mine sent me her laptop to change hard drives.  She also sent her Time machine external HDD.  I used her drive as a recovery disc using the Lion recovery tool.  I didnt see or didnt read any where that stated the drive would be unusable afterwards. But after restoring OSX and moving her data back from the old drive I cant seem to get the Time Machine disc contents.  So im trying to get the data from the drive without completely wiping it.
    Any suggestions?
    She has 13 (black)book late 2007
    running 10.7.4

You should not restore a Time Machine backup from one Mac to another one, especially a new one.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main Recovery screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode. All other data will be preserved.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • Problems with oracle10 and solaris 10

    Hello,
I been trying for 3 days to install and make oracle 10g work with solaris 10. I've downloaded oracle 10.1.0.2 (it's the only one available for solaris 64 bitS). I've followed every bit of documentation I found in this forum but still no go. I've read this thread and followed did what it says but still no go.
    Oracle Database10g on Solaris 10
    My questions are:
    1. I've set the semsys and shmsys as instructed in the documentation, but when I run the installer and it comes to the checking kernel security paramters it says that I need to update the kernel system paramaters BIT_SIZE and noexec_user_stack. According to the docs that I've read, the noexec_user_stack is only for soalris versions up to 5.8, but just to test I added it to the kernel but I still get the same error. What gives? Where do I change the BIT_SIZE and what value should i put?
    2. After ignoring these errors, and the installation has finished, I get this error on the console

  • Building Net-SNMP with gcc and Solaris 10's Forte-built Perl

The 5.0.9 Net-SNMP that come with Solaris SPARC is too old for our users. Building the latest version appears to be basically impossible and I'm just about to bail and just build yet another version of Perl for Solaris 10 so it will work. But on the chance that someone has done this:
I am trying to build Net-SNMP 5.4.1.2 with the Sunfreeware gcc. The configure script seems to ignore the --disable-perl-cc-checks flag:
    ./configure with-perl-modules disable-perl-cc-checks
configure: error: This build is using a GNU C compiler (gcc) while Perl has been compiled with a non-GNU (or non-working) compiler (cc). This likely won't work for building with Perl support. Either specify a different compiler (--with-cc=PATH), disable this check (--disable-perl-cc-checks) or build without Perl (--without-perl-modules).
Has anyone successfully done this? I was hoping to get a successful configure run, then build the binaries, and then further tweak the perl makefiles with "GCC=/usr/perl5/5.8.4/bin/perlgcc" or something.

configure: error: This build is using a GNU C compiler (gcc) while Perl has been compiled with a non-GNU (or non-working) compiler (cc). This likely won't work for building with Perl support. Either specify a different compiler (--with-cc=PATH), disable this check (--disable-perl-cc-checks) or build without Perl (--without-perl-modules).The perl supplied by Sun should be compiled with Sun Studio and the error mentioned above seems to reflect this.
So, either build perl first with sunfreeware's gcc and then move on to net-snmp or install and use Sun Studio instead of gcc so perl is happy.

  • Mavericks - clean install with filevault and Time machine restore

    Hi All,
I will update my MacBook pro mid 2011 with the new Mavericks OS.
I've activated Filevault on my HDD due to corporate security rules.
I want to make a clean install of the new OS.
    I plan the following action:
1 - Make a full backup with Time machine
2 - Create a USB drive with Mavericks on it, I'm using Diskmaker to create it
3 - Start MBP with the USB
4 - With disk utility erase my HDD
    5 - Install Mavericks
6 - Reload my data from the Time machine Backup
    Question:
I'm a bit Scare about the Time Machine backup and Filevault, any experience with the same configuration, do I risk anythink if I follow my plan ?
Do I need to desactivated Filevault before to lunch my clean install and make the backup after that ?
Thanks in advance for your feedback
    Regards
    Alain M.

    Hi Alain,
I see you never got a reply to this, but I'm wondering what you finally did? I have very similar questions, but I'm "upgrading" from 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. I also have FileVault activated and use a Time Machine backup. Any comments/suggestions/experience you (or others) would like to share would be helpful.
    Thanks

  • Total iMac failure!  Please help.  Problems with freezing, and time machine

My iMac has started to go crazy over the last week. It started crashing repeatedly, so much so that it could take me 10 tries just to get it going. I was able to run disk warrior and disk utility and neither of those came up with any issues. I took it into the apple store and they repaired permissions and cleared the cache and of course nothing happened while the mac was in the store.
When I came home I started trying to clear out excess files and organize to save space and memory. I downloaded cleanmymac as well as crucial.com's scanner as recommended by the mac genius. Unfortunately, that night after everything had been working fine, the computer started crashing all over again. I get lines through my screen, it locks up, things get distorted, etc.
In addition, I noticed today that all of my time machine backups have been deleted from my machine. The only one that exists is a huge one that was created the day after it was examined at the store. I have no idea how that happened as I have not touched the time machine settings. To make matters worse, the time machine will not even back up now. It says there isn't enough space. (There are 160GB available). Shouldn't it just be making incremental backups? All I am doing at this point is deleting files anyway!
If anyone has any suggestions at all, please offer them!!!

From the release notes of Ops Center 12c Release 1 PSU2 (update 2)
Issues With Upgrading to Oracle Solaris 11.1
Oracle Solaris 11.1 is supported in Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center 12.1.2.0.0 but is not supported in prior versions of Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center. In addition, an issue with Oracle Solaris 11.1 prevents Oracle VM Server for SPARC management on Oracle SPARC T4 servers using the Oracle Solaris 11.1 OS. See the Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center Release Notes for more information.
Does any one know if there has been a fix for this yes

We were told this was actually a problem in OC not S11.1, and this was fixed in U2.
I know this contradicts with the other answer, but thats the info we received from Oracle.

  • Connection with iMac and Time Machine VERY slow

    People
For the past of couple of days the connection with my iMac and Time Capsule has gone askew. The iMac shows the wireless connection at 5GHz with a transmit rate over 200. However, internet is slow and backing up about 300mb is in its 24th hour and it's only reached 180mb.
I don't understand what may have happened. The two machines have been best mates for a long time and now something's gone wrong. The only thing I did a couple of days ago is install the Update for the Apple Magic Mouse.
On the other hand, my MacBook, which also have the Magic Mouse update, has not trouble with internet speed - wireless, once again - and the Time Machine backups are happening without a hitch.
I bit the bullet and turned off the Time Machine and rebooted it. Unfortunately, it's made no difference.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Both your 5 GHz band and the guest band have the same SSID unless you have assigned separate names to them. I think it's much easier to identify them if they have separate names of your choice.
If you have a separate name for the guest 2.4 GHz band, click on the Airport icon at the top of your screen and then click "Join other network". The 2.4 GHz band should appear as a choice and you can connect to it.
I'm using Leopard, not Snow Leopard so I don't know if things display the same way on our operating system. If you want your computer to connect to a given network:
    Click System Preferences, then Network.
Click the AirPort connection on the left and then click the Advanced button at the lower right. You can drag the network that you want your computer to connect to first to the top of the list.
