  • I have had a third generation iPod touch for three years. It's worked fine sice recent,y when it started looseing battery very fast and every apo including the built in ones like mail and photos have been crashing after about five. I uses of use!!!!

I have a third generation iPod touch. It's worked just fine until recently. The battery goes out very very very fast. But the main  issue is that all my apps (which is why I use the iPod, to play them) crash after using them for 5 minutes, this does include the built in apps like photos and calendar ect.. I have had this for about 3 years and love it very much it's not damaged at all. I Have taken very good are of it . Is it time for a new iPod or can I fix it please help!!!! Thanks!!

The battery can be replaced: http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipod
As far as crashing apps, it may or may not be related to the battery life. I suggest the usual "restart, restore" routine: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/assistant/ipodtouch/

  • My iPod touch is stuck at the apple logo, and my computer doesn't recognize it as a device, so I can not restore it.

I went to turn on my iPod Touch 2rd or 3rd generation, and it remained at the apple logo, and when I went to restore it, my computer/iTunes does not recognize it as a device, and so I am unable to restore it. I believe it is on iOS 5.0.1, but I am not sure.
    Thank you!

    Try:

    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I've just updated my iPod on iTunes and it asked me to re-connect it to iTunes. As I was about to do this my laptop decided to die on me. Now my iPod only has the connect to iTunes screen and it won't let me connect it to my laptop.

Now my computer isn't recogniing my iPod - it isn't even coming up on the devices - and my iPod isn't doing anything. Any suggestions on what to do?

    - Did you try everything here.  Saying your: "I've tried all the advice on apple and on the discussions boards" provides us little information as to what you tried.

  • My touch shows the connect to itunes with usb on screen however when i try to do so it says it cannot connect because it is locked with a passcode. It will not let me enter the code on the ipod or computer. so i cant do anything. Any ideas?

I have tried rebooting it. nothing seems to help. it always ends up with the same screen a picture prompting me to hook up via usb to itunes. Then without fail i get an error message. itunes connpt connect to the ipod touch because it is locked with a passcode. you need to enter the passcode on the ipod touch first. unfortunately the touch will not show any other screen but the connect to itunes.

Connect the iPod touch to your iTunes library in Recovery Mode and restore it to factory setting.  See this article for instructions on getting your device into Recovery Mode.

Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.

  • Tried to restore my iPod touch, it now shows the 'connect to itunes' graphic on the screen but nothing happens when I do

I basically restored my iPod to start my music collection from scratch because I got a new PC.
I plugged the 32gb iPod touch into my PC and the USB connection sound went on to indicate that it is connected to the PC but the 'Connect To iTunes' graphic is on, even when it is connected to the PC and iTunes is open it doesn't show any devices connected. After a while the iPod shuts itself off, and when I turn it on again the same thing happens. Graphic. Not found in iTunes. Turns off. I think but I can't remember if I updated the iPod's operating system prior to the restore (this all happened 2 weeks ago).
I'm not sure of the model/generation of the iPod. I got it brand new for Christmas of 2009 in Australia.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
