Hi. I have a MacBook Pro, my wife has a MacBook Air - is it possible to share a photo library and still be able for both of us to access it when not on the same network?
For example, she often works away and we both obviously would like access to the photo library while she is away.
Upon her return I would then need to sync the library with any new photos either of us has taken. We also both have iPhones with separate apple id's so would need to sync both to a single library if possible?
There is not yet a reliable way to keep an Photo library on a network volume, that you can access remotely and share between multiple users. The syncing over the network will corrupt the libraries, and merging two iPhoto libraries requires third party tools, like iPhoto Library Manager.
With Aperture instead of iPhoto you could merge libraries, but still not have the library on a server for remote access.
It would be easier, if both of you kept your own copies of the iPhoto library on your macs and used the shared photo streams to add any new photos taken by each other.

Sorry, but the AirPort Express....or any other Apple router......cannot do this.
In order to do what you want, you will need to establish an Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on your "main" router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.
Configure the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" using a wireless network name, and password that you select. As far as controlling connections, you can use the settings in Timed Access to establish rules about when the kids and cannot connect. -

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

can I move all my photo that I can see on iPhoto from my Mac hardrive and put them on an external hard drive and still be able to see them as thumbnails in iPhoto? Thanks! The reason, I need to know if I can do this is b/c I am running out of HD space!sp
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Is there anyway to have an 11 inch mac air connected to an external monitor with lid closed and still be able to see content. I have a wireless ketboard and mouse and have tried everything. Only works when plugged in.
You are referring to a feature called Clamshell Mode, please read Clamshell Mode setup for instructions.
BTW when posting when you use generalities such as "have tried everything" this tells us nothing. When posting please be specific and try to paint a complete picture. It just makes things easier for those trying to help you. -

As far as I can tell the three formats (psd, ai, indd) should open in the corresponding versions of the respective programs on either platform.
Fonts can of course be an issue.

My family and I have always had our music on iTunes the family Mac computer. I'm moving and just got my first macbook (woo!). Is it possible to share or move the iTunes library from the family Mac onto my computer which will not be on the same network?

You can't share music over different networks with homesharing. Put the content on an external drive or USB stick and import it to the other computer. -
I would like my music to appear organized in the same way on my iPad as I have done it on my Mac Book. (and on my iPhone as well) Since it is in the cloud, why does it not appear the same way in all devices?
The purpose of iTunes match is to make your music library available to all of your devices anywhere. It will sync Playlists, but no other type of organization you may have made.
If you're having trouble, be sure you are logged into the same Apple ID on all devices but be sure to read this article and pay special attention to associating your devices with an Apple ID. There are important restrictions you should know about. -
How can I transfer files between a PC and a Mac NOT on the same network?
I have an iCloud account, a Time Capsule and a Seagate Free Agent portable hard drive. Which ways can I transfer files (any or all three?) and how? Here's my dilemma: I'm a graphic designer and I work on a PC at my office. At home I use my MacBook Pro...same programs, save files. However, I had trouble earlier saving my new documents onto the Free Agent from my MacBook Pro as the Free Agent was Read Only and original files on it were from the PC. The PC is not on my Time Capsule network and not accessible or even close to my MacBook. I simply want to be able to save the files I updated/changed on my Mac to somewhere that I can access them later from that PC...right now they are saved to my Documents folder. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Format the external drive as FAT32 or ExFAT. Both computers will then be able to read and write to it.

My Internet was changed to Fios and Frontier installed a new router with different Essig and wep key. How do I connect my air printer to wifi. Your new router may not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint. Contact Frontier to correct the router's setup. A firmware update may be required.

I cannot connect to FaceTime on my MacBook Pro. I use it on my iPhone and iPad without a problem. Any fixes? I am not very bright when it comes to computers, so simple language please!

Remote for ipad, cant find songs, but my iphone can, on the same network
hi all
have a very odd problem, and apple cant seem to help me, i´m using the app called remote, to control my itunes music, from both my iphones, ipod touch and the ipad, they all connect to the same itunes music library and i can control them just fine, and choose the music and which airplay unit i want to listen to.
so far so good
but on the ipad, if i do a search for BEE GEES, it shows the artist name BEE GEES, but when i press the artist name, to view the songs, it says no songs, and that i should buy some from itunes.
but when i do the exact same search from either the iphones or the ipod touch, the search then again shows BEE GEES and when i press the artist, it shows the songs that i have with that artist.
the strange thing is that if i search for a song name on the ipad, like NIGHT FEVER it see´s the artist as BEE GEES and i can play it, i just cant seem to do a search by ARTIST, then it returns with no songs????

I made some short "tests" and it seems that if the "Album" field on the info of a song (ID3 tag) is empty, it doesn't appear on the search result of an artist (only on iPad's remote app).
So, if you fill the "album" field of a song (on the "get info" option) then it will be displayed on the list of songs of the particular artist that you have searched for, on the "remote app" on the iPad.
As a fast solution (mostly a stopgap) I would recommend that you will open iTunes on your computer and highlight all the songs that have empty the "album" field on the "get info" window (ID3 tag). Then right click and choose "get info". In the "Album" field, type a space or let's say the word "unknown" and click ok. Of course if you know the real name of the Album, you will fill that field with the right information.
After that, all the tracks should be displayed under every artist in the iPad's Remote app.
Apple should give a solution on that bug. It is strange that there is no such problem on iPhone's Remote application, but only on iPad's. -
Accessing a file not in the same directory
I would like to get the first line of a txt file and perform certain analysis on it, I can do this when the file is located in the same directory but i'm experiencing problems when it comes to trying to get a file outside of my current folder .
What do I need to do when I recieve the string from the user containing the directory and name of the file (e.g. C:\Test\file.txt).

I have Windows XP Pro as my Bootcamp option under Snow Leopard which works very well indeed.
I would like to upgrade to Lion but am concerned re its lack of support for Bootcamp Windows XP
Can I upgrade to Lion and boot into my old Windows XP BootCamp partition as I do at present OR
must I buy Windows v7 and install under the new Bootcamp system.
Also what happens to my Snow Leopard Time Machines backups - can I see them under Lion?
