Hi! So I am using a MacBook Pro with Retina Display, and I am having some trouble issues with sharing documents on Google.
I am part of a 2 person group, who's entering a documentary for the NHD competiton. If you don't know what that is here's a link: http://www.nhd.org. Anyway, that doesn't really matter. What does matter, is that my partner and I, we're using Final Cut Pro X to make the documentary. I downloaded the Final Cut Pro X trial on my MacBook Pro so I could work on our documentary at home. My partner Cecilia, wanted to work on it as well, but using Windows Media Player or something like that. My family uses a lot more Apple than windows. So I come home, work a little on our documentary, go under file ---> share ------> masterfile---> settings-----> Video Codec -----> H.264. A couple seconds/ miniutes (it didn't take very long) later, I see our documentary as a Quick Time file pop up under my documents. I then log into gmail. i click compose, type in my partners e-mail, and then click the little paper clip to attach my new quick time file. Considering that it's 11 minutes long and is filled with media and audio, It's no suprise when I see that it exceeds the limit of ...gigabytes i think. So i send it to her using google drive. However, a couple minutes later, my partner says that she can see the file, but can't seem to download it. I double-check and make sure that I, as the owner, allowed her to edit the file. Then I check to see if i accidently clicked: "Prevent viewer from downloading" which I hadn't. Then i, myself, click on the file and click download and it works fine for me, but apparently doesn't work at all for her windows computer. This means that there's somethig wrong with her computer, or I did something wrong while sharing the file. Any ideas as to why the whole downloading process worked on my Apple Laptop and not her Windows Computer?

I've encountered this error myself upon occasion. If I remember correctly, it was a permissions/ownership issue with the some of the files I was copying.

I've basically been living off my iPad for Internet and stuff for the past two years and writing my papers at campus, but now that I'm going to be taking more English and writing-based classes, I'm going to need a laptop.There's only one non-Retina MacBook Pro being sold by Apple now - the 13" on the left of the Apple Store page for MBPs.
If I were you, I would look for a refurbished 2012 15" from Apple. You can add RAM and a SSD (should you choose) yourself.

Hi! so like i said in the title, i tried to play any game like assassin's creed and minecraft, but the keyboard wont respond but the trackpad does, also i tried restarting reinstalling checking if mouse key is on or off and all that, and it still wont fix this problem. Outside of gaming though, the keyboard works with no problem. Please help me!

I have installed Windows 8 perfectly ia boot camp but on booting the windows 8 does not load up fully. It comes upto the windows green screen for a moment and then goes blanlk. It is very frustrating.

So yes like mentioned above...i am a new mac user...have only had it about four days and have had a windows based system always before this. The issue I am having is that I will be in safari and it will work perfect for a while and then i will open a new tab and attempt another website and it will either be extremely slow or will give the error that it cannot connect to the server, however, when i run diagnostics my internet is fine. The only solution i have found is to reboot and geeksquad has been unable to replicate the problem while connected to my computer to try to do so. Does anyone have any suggestions or anyone else with this problem? If you have a "fix" please try layman's terms because again I have no idea about macs haha. Thanks,

DO I need Anti-Virus for my Macbook Pro w/Retina Display?
I am currently awaiting a MacBook Pro w/Retina Display and I am having an ongoing discussion with some work colleagues, since the Flashback Trojan appeared to infiltrate Mac's back in early 2012... DO I need Anti-Virus.. My argument is no, but everybody elses is yes!
I would love to see some indepth feedback to send my PC lovers running!

Joe1. This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files. This feature is transparent to the user, but internally Apple calls it "XProtect." The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets (see below.)
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been another layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't actually been tested by Apple (unless it comes from the Mac App Store), but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. For most practical purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed can be considered safe.
Gatekeeper has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could find some other way to evade Apple's controls.

4. Beyond XProtect and Gatekeeper, there’s no benefit, in most cases, from any other automated protection against malware. The first and best line of defense is always your own intelligence. All known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the malware attacker. If you're smarter than he thinks you are, you'll win.
That means, in practice, that you never use software that comes from an untrustworthy source. How do you know whether a source is trustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "archive extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn users who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
Pirated copies or "cracks" of commercial software are likely to be infected.
Software of any kind downloaded from a BitTorrent or from a Usenet newsgroup is unsafe.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
5. Java on the network (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related) is a weak point in the security of any operating system. If a Java web plugin is not installed, don't install one unless you really need it. If it is installed, you should disable it (not JavaScript) in your web browsers. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those obsolete versions has known security flaws that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. The flaws will never be fixed. Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java can never be fully trusted, even if no vulnerabilities are publicly known at the moment.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
6. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good, even supposing that they do any good at all. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
By modifying the operating system, the software itself may create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
7. ClamXav doesn't have these drawbacks. That doesn't mean it's entirely safe. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
ClamXav is not needed, and should not be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful only for detecting Windows malware. Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else. Windows malware attachments in email are almost always easy to recognize without computer assistance.
8. The greatest danger posed by anti-virus software, in my opinion, is its effect on human behavior. When people install such software, which does little or nothing to protect them from emerging threats, they get a false sense of security from it, and then they may behave in ways that expose them to higher risk. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices.
9. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default. -

Got to any of the virtual machine software forums and take a look. Why do you thing there are 3 different virtual machine program available for the Mac to run Windows, let alone Apple's own Boot Camp system.
If it wasn't needed do you think Apple would have there own system for installing and running Windows on all Mac computers.
I personally don't know of any Mac users, and I know quit a few, that do not have a version of Windows installed on there Mac computers. Either in a boot camp partition or in one of the virtual machine programs.
There is some software that has just Windows versions. If you need that software and you own a Mac you need Windows to run it. -

Hi, ive been having trouble passing my logic sessions to another computer, we're both using a macbook pro 10.6.8 and logic pro 9 with the same plugins (native instruments komplete 7), the session opens in the other computer but all the synths reset to presets, this didnt happen the first time I shared a session, but its been happening lately quite often

The amount of RAM is not dependant on the operating system. It is all about the model of you Mac.
10.6.8 is the version of OS X that is installed on your system. It has no real baring on the amount of RAM that CAN be installed.
Personally I have never had good luck with Corsair RAM. I have always had good luck with Crucial and Kingston.

please can anbody help or advise?You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor. This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow. What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer. The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".

It is, but be aware, Windows 8 requires approximately 16GB's of storage space and you would have to partitition the hard drive.

Firstly, I found some information on page 11 of the MacBook Pro User Guide about what each color of the LED means on the Power Adapter:
When you first connect your power adapter to your MacBook Pro, an indicator light on the
MagSafe connector starts to glow. An amber light indicates the battery is charging. A green light indicates that the battery is fully charged.

It sounds like you are not getting the amber light indicating your computer is charging, and you are noticing that the battery level is depleting. I recommend resetting your System Management Controller when something like this is occurring:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
