Hierarchies About

Hi,
Can some one let me know
1. When should we use hierarchies, pls. explain with a scenario ?
2. What is the concept behind hierarchies ?
3. How to create a hierarchy - step by step ?
4. Are there any varieties in hierarchy ?
5. what are the components of hierarchy ?
KINDLY NOTE: Pls. dont give me any links to any forums or any std. docs.
Answers will be appreciated by suitable points.
Thanks,

Hi,
Hierarchies in general are essential structures for
navigation. Having characteristics and attributes in the
dimension and master data tables that are related in a
sequence of parent-child relationships, obviously
involves hierarchies. But as the real world is sometimes
irregular, so are hierarchies. In BW there are essentially three possibilities for modeling hierarchies:
•     as a hierarchy of characteristics within a dimension table
•     as a hierarchy of attributes attached to a characteristic
•     as an external hierarchy
<b>Hierarchies within a Dimension</b>
A typical example of a hierarchy of this type is a time
hierarchy with levels such as millenium – century –
decade – year – month – day – hour etc. Another typical
example is a geographic hierarchy with levels such as
continent – country – state – region – city etc.
<b>Hierarchies within a master data table of a characteristic</b>
This case is very similar to the one discussed in section
before. The difference is the increased flexibility (i.e.
realignment facilities) that comes with navigational
attributes. The hierarchy should still have a fixed
number of levels. However, changes to that hierarchy
(i.e. changes to attribute values) can be easily applied
to facts that are already loaded into a cube.
A typical example is the hierarchy of sales office –
sales group – sales person. This hierarchy has a fixed
number of levels but is frequently reorganized.
In terms of performance, this is the least attractive of the hierarchy modeling techniques.
<b>External Hierarchies</b>
This is the ideal type if a hierarchy
•     frequently changes
•     has no fixed number of levels (sometimes referred to as a "ragged" or “unbalanced” hierarchy).
A typical example is a cost center hierarchy in which
several (sub-) cost centers belong to one cost center
which itself belong to another cost center and so on.
Such a hierarchy has no fixed number of levels as cost
centers usually correspond to departments or groups
within a company, which might be reorganized into new
subgroups. Thus new levels might be introduced, old ones
disappear. The hierarchy might be deeper at one end (due
to a deeper hierarchical organization) and shallower at
the other.
Another major advantage of external hierarchies in
comparison to their alternatives is that an InfoObject
can have several such hierarchies and all these can be
used within the same cube. With the alternative
approaches the same effect could only be achieved through
difficult work-arounds.

<b>4.Varieties in hierarchy</b>

         Time independent Hierarchies
         Version dependent Hierarchies

  • Hierarchies displayed with variable (IP & WAD)

    Dear Experts.
We are having difficulties in defining value restrictions for (2) hierarchy variables. Unexecptionally all available hierarchies are showing with the hierarchy variables for a given characteristic.
Objective: We are currently building web layouts for planning (with 2 queries per tab page). Now, 2 different hierarchy variables, one for Input and one for Display of queries, are supposed to restrict the listed char. value (rows). We are looking at two sets of hierarchies about 5 each (in total there is about 30 hierarchies on this characteristic).
Background: Within BW-BPS's Web App Builder one had previously an option to use so called "Packages Selection" where planning packages from BPS0 could be defined with different hierarchies underneath a given planning level. Thereby the effect of having filtered a hierarchy selection could be achieved.
Wonder whether there is a way to solve this with the Integrated Planning tools set (QD, WAD)!?
    Thanks in advance.
    Frank

    Hi Marc,
    Thanks for replying,
Problem is i need to do some calculations in FM and call this FM using formula type planning function.in that FM i used RSDRI API to write data to cube(is there any way i can write to buffer or display calculated values in input ready query??).
So when i use custom planning function button..it writes data to cube and then if i want it to displayed again as it is not in buffer  i used save_web_template standard button, which will show values but not in planning mode(and it gives warning infoprovider is locked).so my input ready is lost.
is there any work around. or is there any way to refresh from the request.
Please provide your inputs for the needful.
    Thanks
    R'Man.

  • About Hierarchical Header in ALV

    hi, all
How can i set the hierarchical header in alv?

  • About Hierarchical dimension

    Hi experts
I have some doubts about hierarchical dimension (only obiee 11g)
I've a dimension with some levels:
    +Total
    ---+Level1a
    ---+Level1b
    -------Level2b.1
    -------Level2b.2
    ----+Level1c
My first question is how to begin my report with childs of "Total". I get this in selection steps pane and choose all elements of level1. Obiee shows me hardcoded so...if in the future there is new members on level1 I will not see it... I need a function like "childs of Total".
Second question: I want to apply a different Conditional format depending level of hierarchy and I have to choose all members hardcoded...not "childs of"
    Any help about it??
    Thanks!

    Hi Alex,
I need a function like "childs of Total".In Selection steps, start with all members, in step 2, click on New Step-> "Select members Based on Hierarchy" ->In the pop up Action select "Keep Only Members of" -> select all the levels except Total. This will display the report with all child s of total
I want to apply a different Conditional format depending level of hierarchy and I have to choose all members hardcoded...not "child of"Possible. In Criteria tab, click on + icon to display all the levels. If you want to apply conditional format at Level 2 ->Click on Hierarchy Level Properties of Level 2->Conditional Format->Add condition->select your hierarchy column->In the filter click on Search ->In "At Level" drop down select "Level 2" and click on Search-> This will display all the members at level 2->Move the members to the right pane->OK and apply formatting.

  • Merge the total line about header and item in the Hierarchical Seq ALV

    Hello guys,
Now i used CL_SALV_HIERSEQ_TABLE to create a Hierarchical Sequential ALV. but there are two total lines, one is to calculate the numerical fields in the header(main) and another is calculate the numerical fields in the item(slave).
my requirement doesn't contain the calculation for header line, so the first line is unuseful and i want to merge these two  line.
how i should do with it?
    Any clues is appreciated.

  • Question about keyword hierarchies

Hi, I'm relatively new to Lightroom. I'm seeing an "interesting" behavior with respect to hierarchical keywords and I'd like to understand if it is correct.
To start with, I've got an example keyword hierarchy for aircraft:
So far so good. Now, I have brought some images into Lightroom that have all of those keywords (aircraft, boeing, b-17 flying fortress, texas raiders) in the image. These keywords were inserted by another application, prior to me switching to Lightroom and importing into Lightroom. After importing into Lightroom, I arranged these in a hierarchy. So, when I select one of those images, the keyword panel looks like this, indicating that all four of those keywords are explicitly assigned to the selected image:
Now, I find that if I export a version of this image with "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy", then the actual Keyword metadata field in the file contains this:
air show, aircraft, airshow, b-17 flying fortress, boeing, monochrome, texas raiders, aircraft | boeing, aircraft | boeing | b-17 flying fortress, aircraft | boeing | b-17 flying fortress | texas raiders
I understand that this is the actual keywords, followed by the hierarchical keyword paths. However, I notice that parts of the hierarchical path are repeated. In other words, the above includes all of the following:
         aircraft | boeing
         aircraft | boeing | b-17 flying fortress
aircraft | boeing | b-17 flying fortress | texas raiders
Is this because the "boeing" and "b-17 flying fortress" keywords have been explicitly assigned to the image, in addition to these keywords being inherited from the lower level keywords which are also explcitly assigned?
What I would like to see in the exported file is the list of keywords plus just the one long hierarchical path from bottom-to-top, without the "pieces", like this:
aircraft | boeing | b-17 flying fortress | texas raiders
I notice I can get that if only if I unassign all keywords except for the lowest-level keyword, like this:
Is this expected behavior? I assume that it is.
The problem I am having is this. In my pre-Lightroom days, I had all these keywords assigned directly to the images without any hierarchy whatsoever. I imported them into Lightroom, and then arranged the keyword hierarchy inside Lightroom's Keyword List panel. Now, as a result of all keywords in the hierarchy being explicitly assigned, I'm seeing parts of the hierarchy repeated when I export (as shown above), and it is "messy".
Is there any way to clean this up without it being a totally manual process?
Does it harm anything to leave it as-is (i.e. with repeated parts of hierarchy)?
    Thank you
    Chris

Thank you John, KeywordConsolidator has a "Remove Parents" function which (if I understand the description correctly) will do what I'm looking for.

  • About Hierarchies and Drill Up/Down

    Hi Forum !!
I need some light about this topic. I have a Materialized view that holds some calculations for me in this way:
    MY_M_VIEW:
    Date_of_year (Is a date)
    CITY
ENTITY (Is the name of an entity)
    CATEGORY (Name of a category)
    SUBCATEGORY (Name of a Subcategory)
    INDICATOR (Name of an Indicator)
    SCORE (Is a numeric measure)
TYPE_SCORE(Is a flag for the score)
For each Entity are many Categories, for each Category are many Subcategories, and for each Subcategory are many Indicators.
The score for Indicator is a number calculated in view's sql definition. The score for each subcategory is the average of the indicator's score belonging to the subcategory. The score for category is a sum of each subcategory's score by N (N is a number obtained by view's definition) SUM(score*N). The score for entity is a sum for each category's score by M (M is a number obtained by view's definition) SUM(score*M).
TYPE_SCORE is 'ENT' when holds an entity's score, 'CAT' for a category's score, 'SUB' for a subcategory's score and 'IND' for an Indicator's score.
Some records in MY_M_VIEW looks as follows:
Date_of_year; CITY; ENTITY; CATEGORY; SUBCATEGORY; INDICATOR; SCORE; TYPE_SCORE
01/01/2006; 'CITY 1'; 'Entity 1'; null; null; null; 1.2; 'ENT'
    01/01/2006; 'CITY 1'; 'Entity 1'; 'Category1'; null; null; 2.3; 'CAT'
    01/01/2006; 'CITY 1'; 'Entity 1'; 'Category1'; 'Subcategory 1'; null; 1.9; 'SUB'
    01/01/2006; 'CITY 1'; 'Entity 1'; 'Category1'; 'Subcategory 1'; Indicator 1'; 2; 'IND'
    01/01/2006; 'CITY 1'; 'Entity 1'; 'Category1'; 'Subcategory 1'; Indicator 2'; 0; 'IND'
I need a Crosstab report in Discoverer Plus using a Hierarchy composed by entity, category, subcategory and Indicator (Hierarchy builded in Disc. Administrator), looking like this (Date_of_year is a Page item):
       DataPoint: SCORE
    ENTITY
        CATEGORY
           SUBCATEGORY
               INDICATOR
    CITY            score
Keeping in Mind the discoverer's way for aggregations, How can I implement a correct Drill Down, Drill Up behavior for such a crosstab ?

    Hi Arun
Find the above text  - 3DDRILL_TO_LEVEL%26LEVEL%3D2 & replace it with text below
3DDRILL_TO_LEVEL%26LEVEL%3D3. this will unable you to drilldown to third node. Like wise you enter the number after "%3D_" to get required level of drill down.
    I hope this will work,
    regards

Use 'WS_DOWNLOAD' function module. it will not show any GUI at runtime like gui_download. you have to give the file path in one of the parameter.
it may be useful for you.

  • BW hierarchies issue with BOBJ Reporting tools

    Hi All,
    Brief about the requirement:
Our client was using Mainframe and other tools for their reporting. Now as they have planned to go for SAP, purchased SAP BW 7 and SAP BOBJ XI 3.1 for warehouse and reporting purposes.
Initial Road map planned for implementation was
o     to use Crystal for operational and formatted reporting
o     to use WebI for Ad hoc and interactive reporting
o     to use Xcelsius for Dashboards
Once we started analysing the requirements, we observed that client requires hierarchies extensively for reporting and they donu2019t want to compromise in that for reporting. At this situation we have explored the options and came to know from the SAP sites that BO got limitations in case of BW hierarchies. But we not able to articulate the what is the exact issue. Is it with only WebI or Crystal also?
What we have articulated is we cannot report the hierarchies in BO in terms of nodes - > Sub nodes -> sub nodes instead we can do as fixed columns. Please add me if i am missing anything else.
And also please let us know options. Options that we were thinking are Implement with BO XI 3.1 considering Advanced analysis tool then upgrade to BO XI 4.1.
Please suggest us, what is the BW & BO hierarchy issue and right tools to use.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bala

Our client uses XI 3.2 but is experiencing issues with Hierarchical BEX queries returning blanks - the mdx is fine - just webi that seems to have a problem and I'm also trying to determine in exactly which instances this occurs.
XI 4.x supposedly resolves mots issues but here again details are not known.
I.e. hopefully someone can point to an info source that describes in more detail what issues are likely to occur re hierarchies and webi.

  • Excel Pivot Table with Date Hierarchies - query performance degradation

For the sake of this explanation, I’m going to try and keep it simple. Slicing the data by additional dimensions only makes the issue worse. I’ll keep this description to one fact table and three dimensions. Also, I’m fairly new to SSAS Tabular; I’ve worked
with SSAS Multidimensional in the past.
We’ve got a fact table that keeps track of bill pay payments made over time. Currently, we only have about six months of data, with the fact row count at just under 900,000 rows. The grain is daily.
There is an Account dimension (approx. 460,000 rows), with details about the individual making a payment.
There is a Payment Category dimension (approx.. 35,000 rows), which essentially groups various Payees into groups which we like to report on: Automobile Loan, Mortgage, Insurance, etc.
There is the requisite Date dimension  (exactly 62093 rows-more days than we need?), which allows visibility as to what is being paid when.
Using this DW model, I’ve created a SSAS BISM Tabular model, from which Excel 2010 is ultimately used to perform some analysis, using Pivot Tables. In the tabular model, for easier navigation (doing what I’ve always done in SSAS MultiDimensional), I’ve created
several Date Hierarchies, Year-Month, Year-Quarter-Month, etc.
There are currently only two measures defined in the Tabular model: one for the “Sum of PaymentAmount”; one for the “PaymentsProcessed”.
OK, in Excel 2010, using a Pivot Table, drag the “Sum of PaymentAmount” measure to the Values section, next to/under the PivotTable Field List. Not too exciting, just the grand total of all Payments, for all time.
Drag the “YearMonth” hierarchy (from the Date dimension) to the “Column Labels” section. After expanding the year hierarchy to see the months, now the totals are for each of the months, for which we have data, for June through November, 2013.
Drag the “PaymentCategory” (from the Payment Categories dimension) to the “Report Filter” section. Filter accordingly: We just want to see the monthly totals for “Automobile Loans”.
Now, some details. Drag the “AccountSK” (hiding the actual account numbers) to the “Row Labels” section. This shows all accounts that have made Automobile Loan payments over the last six months, showing the actual payment amounts.
So far, so good. Remember, I’m using a Date Hierarchy here, in this case “YearMonth”
Now, if any of the other attributes on the Account dimension table, say “CreditScore”, or “LongName”, are subsequently dragged over to the “Row Lables” section, under the “AccountSK”, the results will never come back, before timing out or by giving up and
    pressing ESCape!
If this exact scenario is done by removing the Date Hierarchy, “YearMonth” from the “Column Labels” and replace it with “Year” and “MonthName” attributes from the Date dimension, these fields not being in any sort of hierarchy, adding an additional “Account”
attribute does not cause any substantial delay.
What I’m trying to find out is why is this happening? Is there anything I can do as a work around, other than what I’ve done by not using a Date Hierarchy? Is this a known issue with DAX and the query conversion to MDX? Something else?
I’ve done a SQL Profiler trace, but I’m not sure at this point what it all means. In the MDX query there is a CrossJoin involved. There are also numerous VertiPaq Scans which seems to be going through each and every AccountSK in the Account dimension, not
just the ones filtered, to get an additional attribute (About 3,600 accounts which are “Automobile Loan” payments.).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks! Happy Holidays!
    AAO

Thanks for your reply Marco. I've been reading your book, too, getting into Tabular.
I've set up the Excel Pivot Table using either the Year/MonthName levels, or the YearMonth hierarchy and then adding the additional attribute for the CreditScore.
Incidentally, when using the YearMonth hierarchy and adding the CreditScore, all is well, if the Year has not been "opened". When this is done, I suspect the same thing is going on.
From SQL Profiler, each of the individual MDX queries below (formatted a bit for readability).

  • Material Item Hierarchies in SRM 7.0

    Dear Experts,
we are on PPS 3.0, SRM 7.0, Extended Classic scenario and using the MM-SUS scenario for sending POs from SRM to SUS via ECC and PI.
The issue we are facing is the message mapping errors in PI, when  the PO from SRM contains a material item hierarchy with  free text subline items that do not have quantity, price or delivery date defined.
A free text item does not have any information defined, but XI expects the fields like quantity, Price, delivery date etc and hence the error.
The process flow is an item hierachy PO is created in SRM, replicated to ECC successfully and a Idoc is sent successfully to PI. The failure occurs in PI on its way to SUS.
Did any one face this issue with free text subline items in Item hierarchies and what is the resolution.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

    HI
This speaks about the status of the Cart. This means that the Status of the Cart is AWAITING APPROVAL...I dont know which document you have gone through but procedure for adding a Custom Field in SRM 7.0 is:
    1. Create a Custom field in the Database in SRM. Preferrably add the field in an include and extend thta include to the table in SE11.
    2. Go to Portal Login of SRM and right click the part of the screen where you want to add the custom field. Click on More Field Help. The popup will give you the name of WebDynpro Applicaiton which controls that area.
    3. Login to SRM via GUI and display the webdynpro application using SE80. Enhance the Webdynpro application.
    4. Add the custom field to the Context of the WebDynpro Application View. You will be selecting the field from the database table while adding the custom field to the context
    5. Add the field at the specified place in Layout Tab of the WebDynpro View,
    6. Create a binding between the Layout Field and the Context
    7. Activate the changes.... you will see the field in Portal login of SRM....
For more details , refer to the Webdynpro help of the application...

  • PL/SQL Hierarchical Profiler: plshprof  output - meaning of Ind% column

    Hi,
During analysis of an PL/SQL Performance issue I started using the DBMS_HPROF Profiler, but could not find a good source of information about interpreting the out html-files.
I went through the Database advanced Application Developers Guide chapter: "Using the PL/SQL Hierarchical Profiler" which has a small section explaining the html output generated by this tool.
I'm aware of the possibility of using the analyze function for populating the DBMSHP_* Tables, but I would like also to use the html output too.
Unfortunately there is no explanation about the Ind% column in the various html pages in the documentation. Searching the internet didn't bring up much information either.
    for example:
Function Elapsed Time (microsecs) Data sorted by Total Subtree Elapsed Time (microsecs)
18824664856 microsecs (elapsed time) & 23390789 function calls
Subtree      Ind%      Function      Ind%      Descendants      Ind%      Calls      Ind%      Function Name
    18598289260      98.8%      42540820      0.2%      18555748440      98.6%      697210      3.0%      __static_sql_exec_line34 (Line 34)

  • Time-dependent BW hierarchies in Analysis for OLAP

    Hi all,
We are using time-dependent hierarchies in combination with a key date variable.
Tools used: Query designer based on SAP BW 7.4 and BO 4.0.
    The following steps are executed:
Report is executed and key date is prompted
According to the key date, the correct time-dependent organisation hierarchy will be used in drill-down
Bring up variable screen again and select different key date
The drill-down changes according to the now correct time-dependent organisation hierarchy
The above scenario works for BEx Analyzer, BEx Web, Analysis for Office - but not for Analysis for OLAP.
Whenever I run through this scenario and confirm the updated key date, the following error is displayed:
cube.get.dimension.info.runtime.error : java.lang.IllegalStateException: There is no default hierarchy for dimension [ORG].
In the user guide I don't find any specifics about the hierarchies and since it works in all the other applications, I wonder where the error is coming from. I also could not find it anywhere else in the forum.
Has anyone experienced the same error or any suggestions?

    Hi Peter,
This issue is captured in SAP Note 1941865. Resolved in 4.0 (8.5, 9.2 or SP10) and 4.1 (1.6 or SP03).

If the problem persists, please contact your administrator. (AOC00041)" and/or "cube.get.dimension.info.runtime.error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: There is no default hierarchy for dimension [DIMENSIONNAME]"
The BW Query the AOLAP workspace is created against has 2 different hierarchies that have the same text description
    Environment
SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0
SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.1
    Analysis, edition for OLAP
    Reproducing the Issue
In CMC, create an OLAP BICS connection to a multi provider
Connect to BI launchpad and launch Analysis, edition for OLAP.
Use the connection to create a new workspace.
    The error is observed
    Cause
This issue has been logged as a defect under ADAPT01720287 for BI4.0 and ADAPT01713663 for BI4.1
