Hierarchies in universe build over a flat file

Hi,
I have buit a universe over a flat file which has a single table consisting of all the data(Dimenssions and Measures).
When I built a WebI report over that universe the drill button in the report pannel is showing as dissabled.
Even though I define a custom hierarchy in Universe Designer, it is the same case.
So, Is it possible to have hierarchies in universes that are built over flat files?
If yes, how is it done?
Thanks,
Viswanath.

How to enable Drill option in Webi Report based on BW universe.
Please check the above thread.

  • Build daily Big flat file using SAP R/3 material master data

    Hi all,
I must build an interface between SAP R/3 4.7 and an external application
Daily a flat file must be generated contaning Material data in full exchange mode
    (volume 100 000 materials, <10 fields => ~ File of 30Mo)
No complex mapping, only format mapping (Ex : Price quantity...)
I don't know yet if I will use Idocs or BAPI to extract data. However, I'm sure I must use multiple inbound messages because of volume
After reading documentation, I consider the both following solutions to manage it :
    1) A simple asynchronous interface with a file adapter in construction mode APPEND to build flat file progressively with arrival of SAP messages
    =>
    viable solution ?
Is there problem of concurrent access to file in such a solution  ?
(idocs or bapi data will be processed ones following the others )
    2) BPM Collecting and Bundling Messages - One Interface
(Unlimited Loop with Deadline trigger correspondint to time I must build flat file)
    =>
Each SAP message is a small message but the outbound XML will represent a 30 Mo flat file => Is it a problem ??
Which solution do you advise ?
    Is there another ?
Last question : (more general one)
In such scenario, I can't see XI-value added comparing a creation of flat file directly with R/3.
I will generate a big number of idocs, use a big part of XI memory ...
Can you give me your opinion about it ?
    Thanks a lot
    Best regards

    Hi Jean-Charles,
    >>>volume 100 000 materials, <10 fields => ~ File of 30Mo
    You have a performance task...
    >>>Is there problem of concurrent access to file in such a solution ?
No, the adapter framework has its own queueing, the message would be stored and executed later. If sequence is important, you can use EOIO as well.
    >>>BPM Collecting and Bundling Messages - One Interface
BPM is not required in your case, you should avoid becoz of performance task. You can append at file adapter, no problem. Bundling and splitting is even possible at Integration Server without BPM.
    >>>Each SAP message is a small message but the outbound XML will represent a 30 Mo flat file => Is it a problem ??
    Avoid using BAD words

Use the <a href="https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/quicksizing">Quick Sizer</a> for sizing the hardware.

Trying to build a simple flat file mapping to test out file locations and permissions at a new client and getting the following error: VLD-2407: SQL*Loader map must have a source file. OWB 10.2.0.3. I've added a filename for everything i could find in the mapping configuration screens. Any thoughts?

It can happen if your location for deployment is different than that of development and you have forgotten to make sure the

  • How to convert from SQL Server table to Flat file (txt file)

I need To ask question how convert from SQL Server table to Flat file txt file

    Hi
    1. Import/Export wizened
    2. Bcp utility
    3. SSIS
    1.Import/Export Wizard
First and very manual technique is the import wizard.  This is great for ad-hoc and just to slam it in tasks.
In SSMS right click the database you want to import into.  Scroll to Tasks and select Import Data…
For the data source we want out zips.txt file.  Browse for it and select it.  You should notice the wizard tries to fill in the blanks for you.  One key thing here with this file I picked is there are “ “ qualifiers.  So we need to make
sure we add “ into the text qualifier field.   The wizard will not do this for you.
Go through the remaining pages to view everything.  No further changes should be needed though
Hit next after checking the pages out and select your destination.  This in our case will be DBA.dbo.zips.
Following the destination step, go into the edit mappings section to ensure we look good on the types and counts.
Hit next and then finish.  Once completed you will see the count of rows transferred and the success or failure rate
Import wizard completed and you have the data!
    bcp utility
Method two is bcp with a format file http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms162802.aspx
This is probably going to win for speed on most occasions but is limited to the formatting of the file being imported.  For this file it actually works well with a small format file to show the contents and mappings to SQL Server.
To create a format file all we really need is the type and the count of columns for the most basic files.  In our case the qualifier makes it a bit difficult but there is a trick to ignoring them.  The trick is to basically throw a field into the
format file that will reference it but basically ignore it in the import process.
Given that our format file in this case would appear like this
    9.0
    9
    1 SQLCHAR 0 0 """ 0 dummy1 ""
    2 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 1 Field1 ""
    3 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 2 Field2 ""
    4 SQLCHAR 0 50 "","" 3 Field3 ""
    5 SQLCHAR 0 50 ""," 4 Field4 ""
    6 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 5 Field5 ""
    7 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 6 Field6 ""
    8 SQLCHAR 0 50 "," 7 Field7 ""
    9 SQLCHAR 0 50 "n" 8 Field8 ""
The bcp call would be as follows
    C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinn>bcp DBA..zips in “C:zips.txt” -f “c:zip_format_file.txt” -S LKFW0133 -T
Given a successful run you should see this in command prompt after executing the statement

    bcp import completed!
    BULK INSERT
Next, we have BULK INSERT given the same format file from bcp
    CREATE TABLE zips (
    Col1 nvarchar(50),
    Col2 nvarchar(50),
    Col3 nvarchar(50),
    Col4 nvarchar(50),
    Col5 nvarchar(50),
    Col6 nvarchar(50),
    Col7 nvarchar(50),
    Col8 nvarchar(50)
    GO
    INSERT INTO zips
    SELECT *
    FROM OPENROWSET(BULK 'C:Documents and SettingstkruegerMy Documentsblogcenzuszipcodeszips.txt',
    FORMATFILE='C:Documents and SettingstkruegerMy Documentsblogzip_format_file.txt'
    ) as t1 ;
    GO
That was simple enough given the work on the format file that we already did.  Bulk insert isn’t as fast as bcp but gives you some freedom from within TSQL and SSMS to add functionality to the import.
    SSIS
Next is my favorite playground in SSIS
We can do many methods in SSIS to get data from point A, to point B.  I’ll show you data flow task and the SSIS version of BULK INSERT
First create a new integrated services project.
Create a new flat file connection by right clicking the connection managers area.  This will be used in both methods
    Bulk insert
You can use format file here as well which is beneficial to moving methods around.  This essentially is calling the same processes with format file usage.  Drag over a bulk insert task and double click it to go into the editor.
Fill in the information starting with connection.  This will populate much as the wizard did.
    Example of format file usage
    Or specify your own details
Execute this and again, we have some data
    Data Flow method
Bring over a data flow task and double click it to go into the data flow tab.
Bring over a flat file source and SQL Server destination.  Edit the flat file source to use the connection manager “The file” we already created.  Connect the two once they are there
Double click the SQL Server Destination task to open the editor.  Enter in the connection manager information and select the table to import into.
Go into the mappings and connect the dots per say
Typical issue of type conversions is Unicode to non-unicode.
We fix this with a Data conversion or explicit conversion in the editor.  Data conversion tasks are usually the route I take.  Drag over a data conversation task and place it between the connection from the flat file source to the SQL Server destination.
    New look in the mappings
    And after execution…
    SqlBulkCopy Method
Sense we’re in the SSIS package we can use that awesome “script task” to show SlqBulkCopy.  Not only fast but also handy for those really “unique” file formats we receive so often
Bring over a script task into the control flow
Double click the task and go to the script page.  Click the Design script to open up the code behind

  • Load of hierarchies from R/3 via flat file: how to generate the flat file?

    Hello,
I need to build a custom extractor for a hierarchy. The hierarchy exists in R/3, but there's no standard datasource to extract it. I know I can upload it via flat file, but I have a question related to this.
Does anyone know if there's a program (standard or custom by SAP) or function module in R/3 which allows me to generate that flat file, with the required format by BW?
I would appreciate very much any help about this topic
    Thanks in advance

In CO-PA there is a way to generate Hierarchy Extractors (see Note 422175 for more details). With a Custom Program you generate a specific DataSource.
    Hope it helps

    Hi Patricia,
if there is, I'd love to get hold of it.
I have only ever managed this by extracting the relevant data into Excel and then doing a long series of VLOOKUPS to establish parent and child ids.
I have a sample spreadsheet I can send you if you like.

  • Flat file over HTTP or SOAP

    Hey Guys,
I need to post a Flat file over HTTP (or SOAP), is this possible without developing my own Adapter module?
I just need to get a Flat file from a FTP server and post to another server via HTTP,since there is no message mapping involved, i developed the scenario without any Integration Repository objects, it is just a pass-through scenario.
Now i am stuck on the receiver side since i am unable to post Flat file over HTTP.
Secondly i have Login URL, Logout URL and upload URL from the receiver system, i don't see any place in receiver HTTP adapter to put all these 3 URL's, can i use SOAP adapter to put all these URL anywhere?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • IDoc flat file over AS2 adapter to IDoc adapter

    Hi,
The scenario is IDoc flat file(.txt) over AS2 adapter to IDoc adapter. Could anyone help on how to convert the IDoc flat file to xml in AS2 adapter to execute the mapping further? we are using PI 7.0.
    Thanks in advance!
    -zameer

    Hi,
Since you are on Pi 7.0, you would not be able to use the modules for this in PI 7.1.
You would need to refer this document for converting from Idoc flat to XML
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/46759682-0401-0010-1791-bd1972bc0b8a?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
In your sender AS2 adapter, you can pass the file as is to an abap mapping which will do the conversion to Idoc xml. the output of the abap mapping goes to your message mapping then for conversion.
Another option would be to use a custom adapter module in the sender AS2 adapter to call the Aabap mapping to do the conversion into Idoc xml.
The custom adapter module would do a JCO/RFC call which will do the conversion before passing the data back to the adpter module.

Hi ZEESR, the best place to store the Excel file is on the BusinessObjects server. Make sure the DSN is set up on the same server as well.

  • Universe Builder on XML file

    Hello Experts,
We have XIR3.1 SP4 and our repositories are on oracle 10g.
I'm trying to build a universe on top of Data Services. I exported the datastore to an XML file from the DS Client tool.
I opened the Universe Builder, selected the Metadata Sources and pointed to the XML file.
The name of the XML file appears in the space of Universe Builder, with file type as "CWM_File. But I cannot select "Create Universe" option. It seems to be grayed out.
I have tried importing the xml file into different Metadata Sources, like CWM Olap 1.0, Data Integrator etc but still the Create Univesre option is grayed out.
Am I doing anything wrong? Is it even possible to build a universe like this?
    Please help.

  • Loading Hierarchies using flat file

    Hi experts,
I have requirement to load hierarchies using flat file.
I have to create hier on Person Responsible, sub nodes are Sales Office, Project Definition, Project Type and Project Definition Description. I have file, i need to load into BW.
I dont know much about hier loading, can you tell me what are the Attributes to be inserted and how to prepare the hier loading file which contains HIENM, VERSION, HCLASS, DATEFROM and DATETO.
I dont know these fields are enough to load my hier.
I have created one hier, when i try to activate it's giving error like ' no data exists'.
Can anyone tell me how to prepare file to load into hierarchy?
    Thanks in advance,
    Venky

    Hi Venkatesh,
There are several formats to load a hierarchy via file. The following two are the commonly used formats.
    1) Default
    Node ID                     NODEID
    InfoObject Name     INFOOBJECT
    Node Name     NODENAME
    Link Name     LINK
    HghrLvlNode     PARENTID
    Language Key     LANGU
    Description - Short     TXTSH
    Description - Medium     TXTMD
    Description - Long     TXTLG
    2) Sorted
    Node ID                     NODEID
    InfoObject Name     INFOOBJECT
    Node Name     NODENAME
    Link Name     LINK
    HghrLvlNode     PARENTID
    First Subnode     CHILDID
    Next Node Along     NEXTID
    Language Key     LANGU
    Description - Short     TXTSH
    Description - Medium     TXTMD
    Description - Long     TXTLG
If Default format is used, the sequence of node IDs appeared in the flat file determines the structure of the hierarchy. Whereas the sorted hierarchy format defines the structure via PARENTID, CHILDID, NEXTID relationship.
You make the selection in DataSource/Tran.Structure tab of InfoSource Page by clicking on the "Hier. Structure button.
    Good luck!
    Bill
