Hierholzers Algorithm to find the Euler tour

Does anyone know how to use Hierholzers Algorithm to find a Euler tour of a graph with Java?
Or anyone know of any sites that contain a program that already does this?
Thanx

Does anyone know how to use Hierholzers Algorithm to find a Euler tour of a graph with Java?The construction of an Euler tour is not that difficult. The core of the
proof whether or not such a tour exists is the following lemma --
An Euler tour exists if and only if every vertex has an even number of
edges connected to it.
Hierholzer came up with the following construction; for the sake of the
example, we'll use this graph; A is the start/end vertex --     B-------D
   /|\     /|\
  / | \   / | \
/  |  \ /  |  \
A   |   /   |   F
\  |  / \  |  /
  \ | /   \ | /
   \|/     \|/
    C-------E Note that all vertexes have an even degree, so an Euler tour can be
constructed. Step /zero one in Hierholzer's construction is --
0) let 'level' == 1; 'start' == A;
1) Start at vertex 'start' and generate a random tour;
This is easy, simply wander around over any unused edge until you reach
vertex A again. Suppose we created the tour A -> B -> C -> A.
2) label all the used edges using 'level' and remove all used edges;
This leaves us with the following graph --     B-------D
     \     /|\
      \   / | \
       \ /  |  \
A       /   |   F
       / \  |  /
      /   \ | /
     /     \|/
    C-------E Note that every vertex still has an even number of edges connected to it.
3) For any vertex on the tour so far, find a vertex that still has unused
edges. We randomly pick vertex B; if we can't find such vertex, goto step 5;
4) level= level + 1; start= B; goto step 1;
If we've reached this step for a second time we could have generated a tour
B -> D -> E -> B. All the edges are removed, after labeling them with a
level equal to 2. The resulting graph looks like this then --     B       D
A       /       F
    C-------E It's not difficult to see that, after we get at step 4, we have to complete
the last tour, say, D -> F -> E -> C -> D and we remove the corresponding
edges after labeling them with a level equal to 3.
Finally we arrive at this step --
5) All edges are removed and we've collected three tours --
level 1: A -> B -> C -> A
level 2: B -> D -> E -> B
level 3: D -> F -> E -> C -> D
6) Walk the first level tour until you reach a vertex that connects to a higher
level tour (at vertex B); leave the level 1 tour and follow the next level
tour until a similar situation occurs. Apply this step continuously until
you've reached your original starting vertex (A) again.
You've found an Euler tour --
This: A -> B -> C -> A expands to A -> B -> D -> E -> B -> C -> A.
Which in turn expands to A -> B -> D -> F -> E -> C -> D -> E -> B -> C -> A.
Et voila!

  • Hierholzers Algorithm

    Hi, i am using this guide as a reference to try and find Eulers tour
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=494941 (i think this was from the 12k+ posts of the now known josH )!
    The nodes are represented in a 2d array each position holds an integer displaying how many edges it has connecting to other nodes.
    I am particularly stuck with the first check point he has outlined here. How do we walk over any unused edge. Do we go one way through the array, and then as we have taken a step we just remove the last location?
    some tips would be mighty handy if any one can
    thanks

    ok so if i set the start point to 0 , the end point will therefore be 0 as i want to end back where i started.
    if i loop from the start point at 0,0, looking for a link as a 1, then removing the link when i get there, how on earth wil i get back to the start point again lol (is it really that easy and i am making it had?) the reason i say this is because from starting at 0(column) , 0(row) to be able to move, one of these variables has to be incremented until < length of the array right? .
    I am very confused :D
    edit : actually N4 has odd connections so it wont work grrr lol
    still, i am still confused by the looping structure
    edit: actually N4 has even connections - man this is messing my head up now lol i cant even count to 6 lolAs you have noticed yourself you can't find an Euler tour in that graph, you may not even be able to find an ordinary tour. You have to check that before you start all the fiddling: there has to be an even number of edges for all vertexes; if not, too bad, end of the show ;-)

  • Recursive algorithm to find maximum

    Hi there,
    I am looking for a recursive algorithm for finding the maximum and minimum values in a double array.
    I did find the code from this forum. It works upto the size of array=200 fine.. it however just waits and waits for larger size of the array.
    The code I am using is:
    public double maxRecursive(double [] array){
    if (array.length==1){
         return array[0];
    double [] next=new double[array.length-1];
    System.arraycopy(array,1,next,0,array.length-1);
    return Math.max(array[0],maxRecursive(next));
    Could anyone help me with a better algorithm? I feel the above code is a overhaul with arraycopy as well as the recursive calls.
    Thanks for all your help!
    JP

    try this exact code, and see the output (System.out.prints). That will explain you the logic.
    public double maxRecursive(double [] array, int pos) {
         if (array.length - 1==pos) {
              System.out.println("So, I read all the elements, Final Value is :"+array[pos]+"\n");
              return array[pos];
         double recMax = maxRecursive(array, pos+1);
         System.out.println("Now I am at "+pos+" Position !!!\n");
         System.out.println("Till now my maximum value is : "+recMax+"\n");
         if(array[pos] > recMax) {
              System.out.println("My previous element is "+array[pos]+" since it is greater than my max value, here onwards, this will be my max value\n");
              return array[pos];
         else {
              System.out.println("My Previous element is "+array[pos]+" since it is less than my max value, my max value will not change\n");
              return recMax;

  • How to find the most matched values in the set of map?

    Hi friends!
    I have two vectors
    vector<int> V1; vector<int> V2;
    and a map<int, set<int>> M1;
    I want to select common values from both V1 and V2 and check those values with the set in the map M1.
    For example:
    V1 contains;
    2  4  6  8  9
    V2 contains;
    4  5  6  9  10
    M1 contains;
    1=>1  2  5  9
    2=>4
    3=>5   10
    4=>2  4  8
    5=>4   9
    6=>4   6
    7=>9  12
    When we select the common values of V1 and V2 it is 4, 6, 9.
    And we search for all 4, 6, 9 from the values of M1 which give more appropriate.
    But, no all values in the set of map.
    Then, we delete any value from 4, 6, 9, then remaining values would match any values from the map.
    From the example, if we delete 6, then remaining 4, 9 will match with 5=>4  9, or if we delete 9, then 6=>4   6. Any one of the keys can be selected.
    I know how to select the common values from V1 and V2, but I do not know how to match with the values and select the appropriate key from M1.
    Could anyone help me to solve this?

    This is not the question you asked, except perhaps in the subject. The subject is not the right place to put key features of the question. It is also important to use the body to ask just the question you want
    answered. For example your real question has nothing to do with V1 and V2, just the common vector V (e.g. 4 6 9).
    One way to solve your problem would be to create a new map
    map<int, set<int>> M2;
    with the same keys as M1. Each set of M2 should contain the elements of V that are
    not in the corresponding set of M1.
    Then pick the key of M2 that has the smallest set. If that set is empty, then the whole of V can be used. Otherwise the smallest set tells which elements of V have to be removed, and which is the desired key of M1.
    In your example, key 5 of M2 will contain just 6, so you should remove 6 from V and select key 5.
    Yes fine. I tried the following code and it creates the map M2 (NewMyMap in my code). But how to find the smallest set starting from size 1?
    #include <vector>
    #include <algorithm>
    #include <iostream>
    #include <map>
    #include <set>
    using namespace std;

    IntVec IVec; //This vector is for selecting certain keys from mySet map.
    IntVec myVec;
    SetMap mySet;
    SetMap NewMyMap;
    int main()
    IVec.push_back(3); IVec.push_back(4); IVec.push_back(5); IVec.push_back(6);
    myVec.push_back(4); myVec.push_back(6); myVec.push_back(9);
    IntSet tempS;

    - for big arrays this may lead to "out of memory" problems because of creation of data copies
    Here's a quick rundown on memory allocations based on the algorithm.
    (case 1&3)
    If you do the "!=0, ?1:0, I32, sum" shuffle, each step needs to allocate a new array, so if the input array is DBL and uses N amount of memory, we need 7N/8 more memory.
    (Total of 15N/8, or 13N/8 if we don't need the I32, but in this case the array are too small to worry about anything )
    The nice thing is that it works for any array dimensionality (1D, 2D, 5D, etc...)
    (Case 2&5)
    If you do the summing in a shift register, No additional array memory is needed. Unfortunately, the code needs to be changed by adding an extra FOR loop for each dimension (see case 5 for 2D inputs).
    (Case 4)
    If we reshape the N-D array to a 1D array, we need to create a second copy, so the memory usage is about twice. This also works for any dimension.
    In real life, and if memory is a potential issue, you should always do some benchmarks.
    Often, the issues are more complex, so this is just a quick summary.

  • "The Server cannot find the document corresponding to the document id"

    Periodically when we schedule a Discoverer Report (Apps EUL) we get the following error:
    "The Server cannot find the document corresponding to the document id sent for open"
    Months back Oracle told us to do the following as a workaround:
    Log into Oracle Desktop, schedule something, then go back to OracleBI Discoverer Plus.
    The error goes away.
    This is an insane workaround. Has anyone seen this error and found a patch or a realistic workaround.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Bob.
    I haven't seen this problem, but sure makes me wonder what Oracle is up to, when they essentially tell you to "give the scheduler a good slap via Disco Desktop" every now and then.
    Maybe is you created an SR in Metalink you could slap them back on this one!

  • Query to find the list of workbooks and worksheets assiciated to those book

    Hi Gurus,
    Could you help me with the tables / Query to fetch the list of workbooks and associated worksheets names as welll.
    Thanks in advance!!
    Rgds,
    Santosh

    Hi Santosh
    The whole point of the STATS table is to allow you to query performance, who did what and when. The database itself does not keep such statistics so if you disable Discoverer's method of capturing these you have no way of knowing who did what and when.
    Without this it is impossible to say. I would strongly recommend you enable the capturing of statistics.
    The reason you cannot directly query a WORKBOOK to determine what WORKSHEETS are associated with it is because that information is stored as binary information and not in SQL format.
    Discoverer 10g has the capability of providing detailed information on the EUL. This feature is not offered "out of the box" but can be easily enabled.
    The EUL Administrator can enable the feature by completing the following steps (see also MOS Note 556932.1):
    1. Log on to SQL*Plus as the Discoverer Administrator on the machine where Discoverer Administration Edition is installed.
    2. Execute the EUL5.SQL script found in the *$ORACLE_HOME\discoverer\util* directory. (This script will create the necessary database objects.)
    NOTE: If you are using an Oracle Applications mode EUL, you must also run the eul5_apps.sql file in the $ORACLE_HOME\discoverer\util directory.   This script must be run as the EUL owner, and not the Oracle Applications SYSADMIN user.
    4. Exit SQL*Plus and log on to the Discoverer Administration Edition product (as the EUL Administrator).
    5. From the menu bar, select File | Import.
    6. Import the EUL5.EEX file from the ORACLE_HOME\discoverer directory. Once the EUL import is complete, a new business area will be created and visible called The Discoverer V5 EUL. This is the business area that provides the details on the EUL.
    EUL Management Workbooks for Discoverer Administrators
    The EUL5.EEX file also imports four pre-built Discoverer workbooks. These workbooks are automatically saved to the database during the EEX import and can be executed in Discoverer Plus, Viewer or Desktop:
    EUL Workbook Management - shows which workbooks are shared with which users. Examine worksheets to find the folders, items, joins and conditions they depend upon.
    EUL Access - This Workbook indicates if a current EUL exists in this users schema. It also displays the EUL's in other user schemas that this user can access.
    EUL Query Statistics - Find out which workbooks and worksheets are being used by whom. Examine users ad-hoc queries.
    Lineage - Hyper Drill from Discoverer to find a folder or Items Lineage in Oracle Warehouse Builder. To enable the Hyper drill, you will first need to run the Lineage.sql script.
    The Discoverer Administrator can use the pre-built workbooks or build their own EUL management workbooks by using the Discoverer V5 EUL business area.
    Best wishes

  • Help needed to write algorithm to find Direction given lat/lon

    Hello, i need an algorithm to find out the direction being traveled given the starting and ending lat/lon decimal coordinates. Anybody have any clues how to do it? or where i can find one to just plug into my program? thanks for your help
    public String getDirection(double prevLat, double prevLon, double newLat, double newLon) {
        String direction;
        return direction;
    }

    Perhaps this helps:
    http://www.cssd.ab.ca/tech/social/latitude/index.html
    It will help you learn the meaning of lat/long-coords. I think you will end up with somthing like this:
    if ( prevLat < newLat) {
       //we are travelling north
    else {
       // we are travelling south
    if (prevLong < newLong) {
       //we are travelling east?
    else {
       //we are travelling west
    }This could be wrong, since there is a west-long and an east-long..
    Anyhow, hope this gets you on your way.
    ps: is this a class-assignment??

  • Find the direction of a polygon!

    Hi all,
    Thanx all for ur time advance.
    I am looking for an algorithm to find out the direction of a polygon having 'n' vertices-- Means is it clock-wise of anti clock-wise!
    And I would like to get some explanation on that rather than just a code..
    Anyone has any idea... please..
    Thanx again in advance
    Anvar.

    You can use the cross product to determine which way a given angle p0p1p2 turns. You simply check wether directed segment p0p2 is clockwise or counterclockwise relative to directed segment p0p1. To do this you compute the cross product (p2-p0)x(p1-p0). If the sign of this product is negative, then p0p2 is counterclockwise with respect to p0p1, and therefore we make a left turn at p1. A positive cross product indicates a clockwise orientation and a right turn. A cross product of zero means that point p0, p1 and p2 are collinear.

    Trying to migrate workbooks from one instance to other using discoverer 10.1.2.48.18 i am getting the following error
    Unable to open the worksheet requested.
    - OracleBI Discoverer was unable to find the worksheet that was requested.
    - BIB-10310 An unknown exception occurred.
    - Cannot join tables used in the workbook. Join "" not found in the EUL. Attempt to open workbook failed.
    but its fine one instance , and in prod i am getting above weird error.
    does anybody know how to rectify this.

    Note:267476.1 - for those who can't get into metalink but still need to know the answer
    Subject: Discoverer Workbook Fails With 'Cannot join tables.Item dependency "" not found in EUL' After EUL Migration, Importing Or Cloning
    Doc ID:      Note:267476.1      Type:      PROBLEM
    Last Revision Date:      28-APR-2005      Status:      PUBLISHED
    The information in this document applies to:
    Oracle Discoverer - Version: 4.1 to 10.1
    This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
    Opening a workbook migrated from one instance to another results in the following errors:
    * Unable to load EUL item ...
    * Cannot join tables. Item dependency "" not found in EUL.
    * Illegal operation... DIS4USR OR DIS5USR caused an invalid page fault in module....
    If using the workbook dump utility, you may notice:
    * Found in EUL by id *** Name has changed to .. where the new name is really the wrong column
    It seems that items are matched by internal item identifiers (IDs) and not by developer keys and names.
    Changes
    Migrating from one environment to another. For example, you may have performed a database export / import of the EUL schema from DEV to TEST
    Cause
    The timestamp is the same for both EULs, what can be confirmed by the following SQL statement:
    * Discoverer 4:
    SQL> select ver_eul_timestamp from eul4_versions;
    * Discoverer 9.0.2 , 9.0.4, 10.1 the script is:
    SQL> select ver_eul_timestamp from eul5_versions;
    If the result of the sql output is the same in both EULs, it means that timestamp of both EULs are the same. Discoverer assumes that the EUL are exactly the same (e.g. this can happedn when one of them is created with export/import of the other EUL schema using database export/import utilities) and this is the reason it tries to match items by identifiers and not by developer keys or names.
    Solution
    Change the column ver_eul_timestamp in the eul4_versions (4.1) or eul5_versions(9.0.2 - 10.1)tables to be something different in the destination EUL. The format of this column is like year:month:day:seconds:milliseconds
    Example:
    * Discoverer 4.1:
    sql> update EUL4_VERSIONS set VER_EUL_TIMESTAMP =TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS');
    sql> commit;
    * Discoverer 9.0.2:
    SQL> update EUL5_VERSIONS set VER_EUL_TIMESTAMP = TO_CHAR(SYSDATE, 'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS');
    sql> commit;
    * Discoverer 9.0.4 -10.1:
    Run the script: EUL5_id.sql as the eulowner ID
    o For 9.0.4 -- This is found on a PC with the Discoverer Administrator installed in drive:\Oracle Home\discoverer\sql
    o For 10.1.0 -- This is found on a PC with the Discoverer Administrator installed in drive:\Oracle Home\discoverer\util

  • Reader 8.1.x won't let me passed the EULA

    After installing Reader 8.1.2 (or uninstalling and then installing 8.1.3) I cannot get passed the EULA page even if I click on 'Accept'. When I do 'Accept', the EULA screen disappears as does the the Acroread process from System Monitor. I have seen this reported as a problem with Windows and a registry hack to solve it, but nothing for UNIX despite at least one other report of the problem under Linux. Any ideas?
    I am running Linpus (Linux) Lite v 1.0.15 (Linux kernel 2.6.23.9lw) on an Acer Aspire One

    Well, it's not really a solution to get rid of the reader,
    since you will need a pdf-reader anyway.
    You might find a (freeware) alternative, but that will
    not allow you to use that old PDX-index either.
    I'm suffering from the same problem, having a DVD with the
    issues of a historical magazine (non-commercial).
    Always did use an older reader version, but they are no longer
    available at the Adobe site.
    Let's hope some developper will help us out!
    And please, do not ask my opinion on Adobe.....
