Higher qualification for DBA`s (MBA or MS)

Hi team,
To upgrade its tossup between either MBA or MS?
I saw at places where answers posted like if technically interested go MS else MBA!!! But it looks easy to say like that..
A DBA cannot sit like machine and support 24*7 environment all time he needs some career upgrade to next level (recognition)..yes recognition!!
International degree of either MS or MBA which gives more armoury strength for an oracle DBA??
what kind of courses would assist DBA`s in international market??
please correct me!!
thank you

oracle certifications, experience alone cant show that uniqueness to an DBA. What can tell that he has an peculiar DBA profile in market...
thanks teamYou are on a fool's errand.
In so many ways.
You think the "right" piece of paper will bring you "recognition"?
You think the "right" piece of paper will get you a job that will bring you some sort of life satisfaction?
You think the difference between an MBA vs. MS will have any effect on your job prospects?
Guess again.
I've been in IT for 30 years. I've been an Oracle DBA since version 7.3, whatever year that was. I didn't bother getting my OCP until 3 months ago. Want to know what "credential" got my foot in the door 30 years ago? A Bachelor of Music Education. Employer simply wanted a 4-year degree - didn't matter what major. Once my foot was in the door with that first trainee position, certificates were meaningless. Everything since has been because I delivered on the job, not because of a certificate. Have I missed opportunities for advancement or even just interesting job assignments? Not that I'm aware of, which probably means anything I might have missed was probably something I wouldn't have wanted anyway.
Now, I'll admit that the employment situation for people trying to break into the field is probably a lot different now than it was when I started, but I'd be willing to bet that the same principle holds true ... once you get your foot in the door, it's up to you to perform, not show a particular credential. Your options to "advance" will be based on your performance, not on having chosen to pursue an MS instead of an MBA.

  • Need Info Regarding Unix Scripts for DBA's

    Hi,
I'm a oracle DBA with little knowledge of Unix.
I wanted to write some shell scripts which will be helpful for DBA's regular activity.
As i'm a new to oracle with unix can any plese tell me what are all the activities can be done throgh Unix Shell Scripts also suggest me how to learn unix shell scripts quickly.
    Thanks in Advance

Maybe it is about time you leave your ideal world, and take a reality check.
You don't take into account, I would say all over the globe, with the likely exception of the University of Washington, companies unwilling to upgrade to a supported version of Oracle. Then there are companies who can't upgrade to a supported version of Oracle, as the third party sw doesn't support a supported version of Oracle.
Then there are companies who are unwilling to pay for OEM and/or database control.
My company can't afford to use OEM to manage all our customers.
Daniel, I think I know your answers. They are, and always have been highly unrealistic. You need to leave your paradise, and stop making people frustrated, because they have to stick with the (you so often use that word) paleolithic version of Oracle that has been presented to them.
    They simply have no choice.
In the Netherlands 50 percent of the customers use 10g, 25 percent 8i and 25 percent 9i. You can climb your hobbyhorse every day, many of them won't upgrade, simply because management doesn't want to upgrade, as it doesn't buy them anything, apart from support, which is considered unimportant, as the application 'works'.
Apart from that, your assertion scripts aren't portable across platform is not necessarily true when you start using Perl (comes with Oracle).
There are many tasks for which shell scripts are still mandatory.
In fact Rman is one of them. As Rman doesn't support variables, you can't use OEM to set up a script which uses a proper tag in the backup command.
You need scripting to reset an alert.
You need scripting to rotate the log file of a listener.
    Etc, etc, etc.

  • Multiple qualifications for single personal number

    Hi
I have data source i am getting Pernr is character and qualification is attribute ( as text) . now i want to see multi ple qualification for single pernr.
so i can open Pernr and open attribute qualification  and giving compounding as pernr?
    will be  the solution

    Hi Suneel,
Definitely u cannot maintain multiple attributes for different qualifications.Question for you does any employee have multiple qualifications at same time- Say Employee 1000 can do BSc and BE at the same time?.If this is the case, then you need to do compounding .If not, Make qualification as time dependent and system will not treat multiple qualifications of an employee as duplicate records.
    Eg: Employee  Qualification StartDate EndDate
           1000          BE              01.01.2004   31.12.2008
            1000       MBA              05.01.2009    31.12.2009
System will accept multiple qualifications while loading even without compounding and the same can be displayed in report.Hoep this helps!

  • How do you change an iphoto size to 300DPI high res for exporting

How do you change an iphoto  to 300 DPI high res for exporting to email?

Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing.  Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

    Hi there,
I have a skype in number, which today is not working and loosing me business. When anyone calls my skype number they get a message "Sorry there is currently a high demand for this destination please try later"
I am getting this at least 2 days a month at the moment.
What is going on? After using Skype for 3 years now, I must say it is bug ridden, and not fit for purpose.
I fully expect to get no support at all if Skype is consistent, go on shock a customer and offer some support.

Idea:  I personally provided my Google Voice number (free) which then routes to my Skype number.  the benifit has been I can screen my callers, listen/block the caller from the Google Voice web site and it will TRANSCRIBE the message to text and then email it or send it to my phone.  I have the Skype voice mail feature turned off.

  • External Tables preprocessor in 11.2 as a tool for DBAs

I'm really really excited about new 11.2 external tables preprocessor feature. Oracle documentation show examples based on compressed files and how to load uncompress them on a fly and load them to oracle.
Although that is interesting use of external tables preprocessor, I think what is more interesting is the fact that it can be used outside normal ETL and can be great tool for DBAs who run scripts in unix, now they can execute the scripts from oracle environment (e.g. oracle apex) and read the results of the script very easy way using select * from ... (until now I was using JAVA for executing unix scripts from Oracle environment, this is easier way for sure)
I posted few very simple samples on my blog http://jiri.wordpress.com/2010/01/19/no-more-unix-scripts-in-11-2/

    Hi,
I agree the external tables preprocessor is a great feature.
BUT, I have a problem when I use it with Oracle APEX 4.1.
It gives ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEFETCH callout
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Ah, I've just re-read my BT bill and it does indeed say BT Infinity Option 2 !
I took that to mean BT Infinity 2, but maybe it means BT Infinity 1 Option 2 (which gives unlimited usage).
Viewing my account online, it also says "Up to 76Mb download speed" and "Up to 19Mb upload speed", so I think I'm on Infinity 2 but with my IP profile still stuck at the same 38.72 that I was originally given.
    Anyway, to re-phrase my dilemma......
Since I'm consistently hitting the IP Profile ceiling, I feel that my line MIGHT be capable of running faster if it were allowed.
What I don't want to do is apply for the no-cost "up to 76" option, and the discover that the line is not so stable.
When I originally signed up, I was told to expect about 26 down speed, so BT obviously thought that my line would not be good enough for 38 even.
I suppose I'm really asking if anyone has gone from 38 to 76, and regretted it because they then got a less stable line, variable speeds, or even consistently lower speeds (or maybe for any ther reasons).
Or, maybe I'm supposed to be getting a faster speed, but just have a "stuck Ip Profile" ?

  • Is it possible to upgrade a computer that qualifies for Mavericks to Mountain Lion via a content code purchase from the Mac App Store?

I inherited a situation where a previous consultant purchased a Mountain Lion installer code from the Apple Store but Mountain Lion was never installed. I obtained a new installer code from Apple based on the valid purchase of the Mountain Lion software last month.
The Mountain Lion installer appears under Purchases in the Mac App Store, but nothing happens when I try to download it. When I try to redeem the purchase by inserting the content code I get a message indicating that the content code has already been redeemed.
I don't mind spending $20 to purchase a fresh content/installer code, but I would like some assurance that the Mountain Lion software can be installed on a computer that qualifies for Mavericks. Not wanting to upgrade to Mavericks is not my idea but is that of my client.
Or to put it another way, does Apple prohibit such an install unless the computer in question does not qualify for a Mavericks upgrade?

It is your decision which OS you want to upgrade to - Apple does not place such restrictions (unless the machine specs do not meet the OS's specs or vice versa). So, if yours does meet Mavericks specs, it can run any OS newer than what it came with.
So, which OS does the machine have now?
I inherited a situation where a previous consultant purchased a Mountain Lion installer code from the Apple Store but Mountain Lion was never installed. I obtained a new installer code from Apple based on the valid purchase of the Mountain Lion software last month.
Was this purchase done on this same Mac? If so and someone else purchased the OS, then the likely answer is: any OS or app obtained at the app store is not transferable - its' license is tied to the original purchaser's Apple ID forever. So, it may have been a valid purchase, but it is tied to the purchaser, not you.
In order to get past that, you will need to wipe the drive booting from either the original install disk (which OS did the Mac come with?) or using recovery if it was Lion. After wiping the drive, reinstall the original system, and then you can purchase and download any OS version you'd like using your own Apple ID.
Let me know if I misunderstood the situation.
