Did you place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

When you get iTunes to see the iPod try the standrd fixes to rule out a software problem:
- Reset. Nothing wil be lost

You could have a bad battery that needs replacment. I can't really tell since you did say how long the battery lasted.

IPod Touch 3gen Water Contact Glitch

Couple days ago my ipod touch was in contact with water. I placed my ipod touch in a bag of rice for about 4 days without touching it. I was scared to turn my ipod touch back on so I decided to take it to apple to see if they can do anything. I took it to apple today and the guy that was helping me said that my battery was not accepting the charger and the only thing I could do is to trade in to get a new one for $150. I decided to go home and think about it. I decided to plug in my ipod touch to my laptop to see if it worked. At first nothing happened, but I just left it there and then few minutes later the screen appeared and it started to charge. Everything works except the screen was a bit glitchy. Anyone else have this problem?

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media. You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else. You should be able to just place them in your Books library in iTunes and check to ensure that your Book library is configured to sync to your iPod when you sync your iPod to iTunes.

right, figured it out. had to put it in disk mode, then reconnect, then it was recognized, then i restored and put everything back onto it. hope this helps anyone else who has a similar problem
