History Log Server Setup

Is there a way where we can store the history records of every Firefox installation on the clients on a certain LAN, to say a designated Log Server? Just like the Linux syslog daemon which can receive remotely sent logs from other computer or machine (I have my Wireless Access Points log their activities to my Linux workstation).
For example, let's say that on the LAN there is 3 clients (192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.4), all are installed with Firefox. Then on each Firefox installation, let's say there is a menu item of where we can assign a certain IP address as the log server, e.g. 192.168.0.1, then later the Administrator can view the report on the Server, which its view is similar to the normal history log, but since this is the Log Server, then there is the IP Address as the header (level break).
Perhaps the report would be seen on the Server something like this:
192.168.0.2
Today
- bla
- bla
- bla
Yesterday
- bla
- bla
- bla
and so on
192.168.0.3

- bla
- bla
and so on
192.168.0.4
Today

and so on
Please let me know if there is any such function or service available, even any similar one will appreciate.
P.S. I'm aware that there is this History Synchronization Service to an On Line Server, but I'm asking for the local Log Server.

Concerning configuring SNMP on the sensor, I recommend doing this via
the IDM (https) method of configuring the sensor. You can find the
documentation on configuring SNMP via IDM here:

Here's the SNMP configuration information from the CLI configuration
guide (it lists the MIBs you need for a third-party SNMP server, check
the end of the document for the MIB info):

  • If I resize job history log to see more entries listed under job history, will cause sql server agent to restart or any downtime?

Here is I am going to do:
    Using SQL Server Management Studio
To resize the job history log based on raw size
In Object Explorer, connect to an instance of the SQL Server Database Engine, and then expand that instance.
Right-click SQL Server Agent, and then click Properties.
Select the History page, and then confirm that Limit size of job history logis checked.
In the Maximum job history log size box, enter the maximum number of rows the job history log should allow.
In the Maximum job history rows per job box, enter the maximum number of job history rows to allow for a job.

this change does not require SQL agent restart

  • 10.5.1 Server Setup - Help Make it all Work!

Hello Everyone, I currently have a new MacMini running 10.5.1 with our Calendar, Wiki and File Sharing. I have recently just returned from the Mac OS 10.5 Training Session from Chicago Columbia College and was astonished at what their demo servers did versus what mine has never done lol. We are a small tech company and there isn't much yet in the way of documentation or training or even training materials for Leopard Server. So I wanted to share some of what we learned from the training seminar and hopefully someone will know the proper answers to my questions. This is going to be a bit long winded but I think it's important to convey my questions/concerns.
    1. Ok initial setup of our Leopard server requires you to input a host name and then the domain name. Well after the first install of Leopard we found as I have read amongst the posts for the past 2 hours that if you place let's say macmini in the host-name field then place domain.com in the domain field. After the server setup is complete Leopard Server wants you to chat, vpn, and browse to http://macmini.domain.com/groups as well as mail. This is all well and good if you have access to DNS like I do and can easily make changes to the MX & A records but if your a typical SMB user then you won't and this means that once your e-mail is setup and your ready to start using your server anyone you e-mail will come from [email protected] and not [email protected] which is a huge problem. So be cautious here. I was instructed by Apple after scratching their head to leave the host-name blank and only fill in the domain name here if your on let's say a T1 or other medium with a static IP pointed at your machine or router. So this is my first pet peve, there is a sloppy work around to this by telling the server to receive e-mail for domain.com as well but still whenever you send it comes from the original domain.
    2. Application Setup - Single Sign-on - When I attended Leopard training this week in Chicago I was amazed at how whenever a user (demo -lab environment) logged into ichat, ical, wiki or e-mail there was simple single sign-on kerberos auth. What I mean by this is once the server is up and running and your Mac connects to the network for the first time either by manual add thru the directory application or a new Mac that finds the Leopard server automatically at first boot and you auth a user on the server to that Mac then there is just a single signon from that point on, NOT! For us our users log into their machines, (mind u they are already users on the Leopard server and can log in just fine) and they try to go to their e-mail for the first time it always fails. We then have to disable SSL over SMTP and IMAP and manually type in their passwords because the MacMail clients cannot trust the SSL cert or we simply just delete their accounts and recreate them from scratch. Same happens with iChat. By design when you auth your Mac against the server, the server auto configs the security and client apps, i.e. mail, ichat, directory, VPN, ical. But iCal has consistently failed setup across 5 server builds and 10 clients. What will happen is when you go to prefs in ichat you see your account but it can't auth you and doesn't show up in ical for your personal server calendar. If you manually remove your user account and re-add it works great. But next time you go to ichat, once again you have to recreate. And I can recreate this all day long. But at the demo it worked like magic. So that is problem number two, SSL and single sign-on does not really work and app auto-config does not work at all.
    3. Apple Airport Extreme 802.11N. - As a test and per Apple's recommendation for SMB clients we picked up a new Airport. We patched it and setup user/pass info and setup DHCP on the device for so if server fails we have internet. And during server setup it logged into Airport and tried to configure settings. We were on the net and all was good after server setup. However with VPN enabled per user in Standard mode on server we have only been able to gain VPN access for clients if they are actually inside the network. I have spent about 10 hours back and forth with Apple Support trying to get VPN to work outside. The Manual setup of new Airport Port-Mapping is simple but crude. It does not seem to work. And there is a default hosts setting which should translate to an open DMZ but does not. So that is third on my list, running a MacMini with 2gig's of RAM which is within SPEC for Leopard Server and using the Apple Recommended solution of an Airport Extreme N does not work for s&*% and I would be very surprised if anyone here has gotten that to work.
    4. E-Mail Services - As stated prior Leopards auto app setup utility does not work for crap unless by some magic there are other steps besides the ones outlined and printed with the purchase of server. But the main thing about mail is that we are missing the basics. I mean your going to be hard pressed to find ANY e-mail application on the market today, Notes, Exchange, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, iMail or other that does not include basic vacation/out of the office message replies. This is a huge issue for any small business or for that matter any size business that wants to automate things when they are out and I think this is one of my small peeves but certainly worth a listing here.
    5. VPN - We have tried like **** to get the VPN to work thru the Airport as previously noted but we have also connected MacPro with 2 nics, one for net and one for LAN and not been able to connect to the server from outside our network. Here is my largest frustration, we currently run SBS2003 from MSFT and they run flawlessly. I have literally sat with clients in their office during a new setup for SBS and in 3-4 hours we were up and running with minimal system level changes from the guided path. And for Apple to advertise this in the manual and all online materials as being SMB friendly is a complete slap in the face. Now don't confuse my above descriptions of problems we have seen across 5 Leopard builds as being a rant because it's not but seriously I am a network engineer with 10 years in the field working with 20+ product ranges and in our office we only use Mac because of stability and uptime. But OS X 10.5 is not Small Business Friendly at all even with the half hearted attempt at the new System Admin console for SMB users. However that being said I will still push on and try to get all these little bugs worked out and what I would really like to see is some feedback on my issues and I would love to know if anyone else has had similar issues. I really had hoped that 10.5 could help my firm finally push the proper solution (Mac OS X) for our SMB clients but it just isn't there yet.
    Cheers,
    DM

Thanks for the quick read and response. Do you feel the issue might lie with the fact that it is a Mac Mini? And possibly just not powerful enough to run Leopard Server? I have to say in our trials with MacPro it was like night and day as to how they performed. And if you could elaborate on this "Many VPNs don't play well with NAT so your VPN server should have a direct connection to the public network (preferably firewalled, of course, but not NATted)." Most every SoHo and for that matter uses simple NAT translation for security even our multi thousand dollar Cisco PIX and ASA's are basic NAT devices to start with. How would you put the VPN on public net while keeping the attack surface low for the rest of the services like file, web, mail and print?
Don't get me wrong I want this to work more than you can imagine. We are so tired of supporting MSFT technologies that cost thousands a year in antivirus, antispyware, antispam and other malware protection for the enterprise. We know that Leopard has great potential but for an integrator, getting this system up and functional is not an easy task. And the worst part of it is every time we have called for support the tech always lets out a sigh when they hear we have run standard setup because they are not allowed to walk us thru the server console to make repairs. And have been told by 3 techs so far that this is a new product and the support avenues are not there for standard since it just supposed to work out of the box. But when it doesn't then ohh well. Which is sorta sad...

  • How to find history of CUA setup and usage

    Hi there,
A client is asking me to find out who connected a satellite system to the CUA system, and then who deleted it again. Does anyone know where to find this history of CUA setup? Transaction SCUL doesn't help, as the satellite system says it isn't part of any CUA, and on the CUA system itself SCUL doesn't show anything for the sat. system. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
I don't think that there are some logs available. the only thing I can imagine is to find out, who connected a client to the cua-master.
Start WE20->partnertype LS>select chidl system>open userclone>change to tab 'Post processing: permitted agents'. In the agents-field you should find the user who connected that child (generated partner profile).
Normally it is forgotten to remove the we20-entries after deletion of the cua-model, so this information should be still available. then interview that user about when,what,how,why,...

  • Windows 8.1 VPN Server Setup - No Network softwaare to choose

    Hi Everyone
    Windows 8.1
Setting up an incoming VPN Server.
When I try to create a New Incoming Connection via  Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Alt - F > New Incoming Connection.
The wizard appears so  I check the User Account > Next  > Check Through the Internet > Next  bringing up the Allow connections to this computer window where I should be able select Networking software to be enabled and then go on
to click Allow Access button.   The networking software to highlight window is blank.  Using the Install... button below this window brings up the Select Network Feature Type window where I can highlight a feature (Client, Service or Protocol)
and click Add button .  It returns to the Allow connections window which has not changed and nothing is added.  Still blank.
How do I get the network software to be there to select?
I have done this on other machines and had no problems at all.  It worked the way it should.
After I did an image and reset operating system, the VPN Server Setup worked as it should.  Restored image as it is way to much work to rebuild the machine. So any ideas?
Any and all help will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance. Lowell

    Hi,
Did you mean you have solved this problem by resetting Windows?
Regarding to current information, this issue can be caused by port settings or corrupted Windows components.
Please check if the VPN port 1723 has been set as allowed in both your Firewall and router settings pages.
Also, we may fix such issue by running following repair command:
NOTE: Please run these commands as administrator.
    SFC /SCANNOW
    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
For further help, you can upload %windir%\logs\CBS\cbs.log and %windir%\Logs\DISM\dism.log into Onedrive or similar file service and share the link here for our research.

  • Can I re-run the Server Setup Assistant?

I have a G5 tower with OS X Leopard Server installed. I made some rookie mistakes (such as not setting up DNS) during the initial Server Setup Assistant wizard so I would like to give it a try again. However, I already have a lot of files on the server that I don't want to lose. In the past, I have had to reinstall the server software but when I did, it only wants to do an erase and install. There is no opportunity to archive and install so I can save my data and just redo the server setup.
Further reasons to do this are tonight I discovered that all of my users were gone, including the admin user. I searched the threads and found that I could login as username "Local Administrator" with the password of the previous admin account. I then tried to use the Workgroup manager to add all the users back. I can at least now let the clients log in and access the AFP shared folder that is stored there but I'm getting a log of strange errors with other things. For example, on a fresh client, I used to be able to fire up Directory Utility and have the client automatically configure a few things to work with the server such as Time Machine. Unfortunately, now when I try this I get an error.
Therefore, if someone can tell me if there is a way to blow out the existing server configuration and redo it from scratch, please enlighten me.

Makes sense, although you're in a tough spot. While I can appreciate the notion of an inexpensive server, I'd hesitate to use a mini still. Even with an old G5, you can find eSATA options for RAID devices, or at the very least, install two HD's that you can easily access. One option you always want with a reliable server is to be able to replace HD's and copy from a backup in case of a HD crash. The expansion ports on a tower are also pretty important for a server when it comes to expansion, adding RAID's, and exploring other backup/redundancy options.
Even when we purchase Windows servers, we still buy a box in the 3-5K range. There is certainly a niche for mini servers, but just make sure it will fit your needs and you have a good backup strategy.

  • What are the reasons why Server Assistant won't detect Auto Server Setup ?

    Hi there,
I've been having issues with Auto Server Setup mechanism (the mechanism that allows an administrator to install a machine without human user interaction). I actually have the answer to my post question but I post it anyway because it might help someone that stumbles on the same issue. Moreover, the answer raises other questions about licencing.
I had the problem that I had created a NetInstall image that had a "/Auto Server Setup/generic.plist" file; this worked perfectly on the XServe I was testing it on : when I started the client in NetBoot mode, the client was installing without any human interaction, from the disk formatting to the login window... all this was pefectly good. Then I tried to install another machine by starting it in NetBoot mode : the machine installed the system and then waited for human interaction for the configuration step in Server Assistant, as is there was no "/Auto Server Setup/generic.plist" file....
I finally managed to figure out what was wrong (not thanks to Apple, as I couldn't find any clue : no message from "Server Assistant", nothing useful in the logs I found just by luck in /Library/Logs/ServerAssistant.log) : my "/Auto Server Setup/generic.plist" was ignored because of the Mac OS X licence key. When I replaced the key in generic.plist with another key, it started working again. I know that the official documentation says to use site licences when using the generic.plist mechanism but at least an error message somewhere would have helped...
So, it seems that "Server Assistant" talks to apple servers and refuses to use a licence key that is used somewhere else. These policies are perfectly fine, as long as it works and it is consistent, which I'm not convinced of :
    - first, we had success in the past in duplicating Mac OS X 10.5 system disk images (we have lots of xserves with valid licence keys but we found it easier to duplicate system disk images) on our xserves, and even if all xserves had the same osx server licence key, they worked fine (except that Server Admin doesn't like it). As a result, the licence verification policy is inconsistent as it depends on the way mac osX is installed...
    - second, I'm not sure this licence checking mechanism even works : I beleive that apple registers associations between a machine id and a licence key; then, how does apple guarantees that this association (therefore free the licence key) is removed when you format a system hard drive (there is no other way to uninstall Mac OSX, right ?) ?
Does anyone knows how licence key registration works and more specifically how licence keys get freed for reuse on another machine ?

    Hi Stephen,
To login, the internal server should be: https://boot.ciscojabbervideo.com/endpoint/configuration
The external server and domain fields are blank.
Your username only needs the prefix of your @jabber.com video address.  For example, if your video address is [email protected] then your username is "stephen."
Unfortunately, there is only forum support for this free service.
    Regards,
    Jason

  • SQL Server Setup Failure 0x84B10001 (SQL 2012 SP2 and SQL 2014 Standard)

I'm having a problem with SQL Server Setup. I had SQL Server 2012 R2 SP1 installed, and the SP2 installer would fail.
I decided to just get SQL Server 2014. The setup (and system configuration checker) for that fails with the same error.
    SQL Server Setup failure
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:
'.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 231747.
    Error code 0x84B10001
I found this and other posts about similar problems that point at MSDE being the cause.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/bc9f4949-1b45-427c-aa2b-d2222488a13e/problems-installing-sql-server-2012error-code-0x84b10001?forum=sqlexpress
I definitely had MSDE installed, but I went through the steps to manually remove it and rebooted with no luck.

  • Server Setup Wizard / CiscoWorks Assistant - Unable to find Server

I just performed a clean install of Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 on our HP Bl460c server, Win2003 R2 SP2 Enterprise,
8 GB RAM, 146 GB HD, all Windows Updates installed (including ie8), no ciscoworks patches installed.
No errors during the install.  I restarted and logged in.  I clicked on Server Setup (under Setup Center
on the LMS portal) as indicated in the deployment guide.  I put in "admin" as the username and typed the admin password.
The window opens and shows "Collecting existing server information. Please wait"
after about 5 minutes, I get ERROR - Server Discovery timed out. Please try again later.
I'm stuck there.  All ciscoworks services are running according to "services.msc" in windows.

Whether or not a sound system is plugged into the Airport Express has no influence on the generation of this error message by the Airport Setup Assistant.
I have a distinct feeling I'm going to be reiterating everything the people at Mac support told you to do (so it would be helpful to tell us at the start what you have tried thus far to solve the problem) but the next thing I would recommend is a factory default reset of the Airport Express per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
The other thing that can cause all sorts of grief is any non-Apple firewall software you might have installed on this Mac - that includes firewalls, "internet protection" software, and VPN client software. The MacOS built in firewall is OK - but all this other baggage should either be disabled or uninstalled.

  • LMS 4.0 Multi-Server setup

I have a problem setting up a multi-server setup. On my remote LMS/slave servers, I can import the Peer Certificate from my master LMS server and on the slave servers I can import the Master server cert. However, when I go to the Single Sign-On of the slave server it states that the cert is not installed/valid. So, I go back to the Peer Server Certificate setup and look at the cert imported and states it is valid. All self signed certificates.
Question: Should I make new self signed certs for each server? Or/How do I make new cert within LMS(I believe in the setup you added the values)? Is there a log in LMS that I can check this process?
From reading the docs, I don't see anything. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    John

There is a perl script, sslutil.pl, in your LMS installation (under $nmsroot\MDC\Apache) that will allow you to validate your server's certificate. Assuming a  default installation on Windows, you can use:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\bin\perl.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\CSCOpx\MDC\Apache\sslutil.pl"
    from a command window
My experience (using 3rd party signed certifcates) is that LMS is very particular abou the ownership (casuser needs to own) of the file and directory in which the certificate and key files are stored.

  • SQL Server Setup Error

    Good Evening,
I've been having an issue today whilst trying to install SQL Server 2012 to a newly built server running Windows Server 2012 R2. Whilst going through the 'Database Engine Configuration' where you assign parts of the installation to different directories.
We are trying a new method of installing each part of SQL to an SMB file share on our Netapp. After pointing each part of installation to a specific directory and pressing next I receive the error attached
I can see that it says that you need to give the SQL Server setup account the  Manage Auditing and Security Log policy on the local policy console. I've gone to this policy and added myself (Local Administrator), The server itself, the SQL Server
Agent account and also the database engine account. I have rebooted the server and tried again running the installation both as myself and Administrator but still get the same error. Please could someone help me with this issue.
    Regards,

    Hello,

  • Server Setup Success!

I have struggled with setting up OSX Server for almost 2 years now.  Had a few apple consultants come try, and like me, they failed to be able to get Open Directory to be stable and for users with network homes to be able to work reliably.
So, I finally just took one of my mac minis from work home and started working on setting it up as a test.
    Followed these steps:
    1. Reformatted drive
    2. Installed newly downloaded mavericks 10.9.4
    3. Setup a local admin user account
    4. Set DHCP with manual IP address and set DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    5. Downloaded Server.app 3.1.2
    6. Opened server.app.  Let it setup DNS services.  used test.miller.private as computer and host names.  Server setup DNS and edited the DNS settings in my network control panel, it added an entry for 127.0.01 before the google entries.
    7.  Setup Open Directory.  For some reason, the certificate it created was only being used to secure OD, so i told it to use it for everything.
    8.  After that though, i was disappointed to see errors like this in the logs:
slapd[2168]: conn=4041 op=3: attribute "entryCSN" index add failure
    slapd[2168]: => bdb_idl_insert_key: c_put id failed: DB_LOCK_DEADLOCK: Locker killed to resolve a deadlock (-30994)
And those errors got worse after binding a client.
BUT, on the server, I opened Keychain access and set it to always trust the various certs that the server had setup, kdc, open directory, etc.  It was a bunch of certificates.  Since then, the logs are clean.  No more deadlocks.  Very little actually shows up in the logs now and so far, network users are working well.
So maybe this **** thing does work after all?

Congratulations!. Thanks for sharing this with the community.
