Ho to pack my applicatoin in a .epa file

Hi everyone,
I am trying to develop a small iview, and the request is to send it as a .epa file. I dont really know how to do this. Can anyone please help me with a explanation?
Thank you

Hi David,
Suppose you have 3 different environment viz Dev, Test, & Prod, first you will deploy your par file in Dev, do all your development activity.
Once all the dev activities are complete then you have to transport the 'par' file into Test and NOT to deploy the par file in Test. In order to transport the par file from one EP to another, the portal design is to create an EPA.
In realtime, an application will consist of more than 1 par file. In this case think of deploying(as well as creation of iviews, pagees etc) in different environments? So you have to create a transport package with all the files(par==>iviews, pages, etc) which will be saved in a .epa and import into the destination EP.

Here is the short dump in the ABAP system.
    Short text of error message:
INTERNAL ERROR UPDATING REQUEST DESC OF RP1K900690
    Long text of error message:
    Technical information about the message:
    Message class....... "PU"
    Number.............. 601
Variable 1.......... "INTERNAL ERROR UPDATING REQUEST DESC OF"
    Variable 2.......... "RP1K900690"
    Variable 3.......... " "
    Variable 4.......... " "
I have checked the RFC destination in the J2EE Admin and that works OK.  This has me kind of stumped.

  • Error while importing the epa file..help needed urgently..

    Hi,
I am facing a severe problem, I have developed a portal application, designed the pages, iViews roles etc and exported to a file and later downloaded the epa file.
For testing purpose, I deleted my content folder of the pages and iViews from the content administration. But when i tried to import the file, I am getting an error message
<b>" Error extracting the package file. Check the log files for details. "</b>
When i lokked the log file, i found the exception as
    <b>" [com.sapportals.portal.transport.ui.ImportComponent] Error while extracting EP6.0 package C:
    usr
    sap
    J2E...
    MyEpafile.epa "</b>
and below the erro i found an exception message as <b>"error in opening zip file"</b>
When i tried to extract the file using winzip, I can extract it with out any problem..
Can you please tell me how this happened?
Please help me to solve this problem,
    Thankyou,
    Sudheesh...

    Hi Christopher,
Well, I have solved the problem. But I don't know whether it will be the correct technical way.. Because i have to solve the same under a very little time constraint. The solution is given below,
I unzipped the epa file which i have downloaded using winzip. inside the extracted file, i found a zip file with the same file name and extension. when i uploaded that file, it worked fine with out any problem. I tried the same many times. and each time i got the same results.
Please try this if you are still facing the problem..
    Best regards,

  • How to Open .EPA files.

    Hi Gurus,
I have one file with .EPA extention, which i got from SDN on Portal Development Kit.
Please help me out how to open and consume that file.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Udaya Bhaskar

    Hi Uday,
EPA file is created when we transport any package. this file is contains all the iviews, pages, worksets, roles that you have to transport to another system. so if you want to see that contatints and upload it you need to get that containts in another server i.e you need to import that. for importing this containts you need to do following things :
In SAP portal you must have System Administrator role or you can take your colleges id who has that role. then do the following Steps for opening the items that are present in the .EPA file.
    1) Click on System Administrator
    2) Click on Import option
    3) Then there is Source for Package Files opetion and you have to select one of the opetion.
    a) client : this option you can select if you have that .EPA file in your local system. then you can browse it and upload it.
    b) server : this option you can select if you have that file in another server and you have to browse that file from server and then upload it.
    4) after uploading file you can get all the contents that are present in that .EPA file.

  • Error importing EPA file into Enterprise Portal

I am trying to work on EPA file deployment.  For a simple test case, I have created a single folder, created a transport file and exported to an EPA file.
I then delete the folder and try to import the EPA file.
I get "Error extracting the package file. Check the log files for details."
I have trouble figuring out which log file to check so I searched for all .log files in my "c:\usr" directory.  The only one I can see recently changing is "server.1.log" and all it says is:

    Hi Derek,
You can find detail messages in the \usr\sap\SID\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log\defaultTrace.X.trc
file. Please check that first and you'll see more detail.

  • Is there a way to Import EPA file using SDM?

    Hi,
is there another way to import EPA files in the portal NW04S?
I do not have access to import in the system administration.
    Thanks
    Jean Seguin

Never tried but, i think SDM does take SDA's also. nevertheless,
import EPA into NWDS as a DC, deploy it to the server through NWDS.
snap....i am sorry, its an EPA file. EPA file can be directly imported in the server and does not require to be through SDM.
Go to Security Admin > Transport > Transport Packages > Import .... and follow the instructions there.
use client / server based on where your EPA file is located. and upload and import.

  • CTS+ Close coupling for transporting epa files

    Hi all,
Is this possible? We have set up CTS+ in our landscape. The domain controller is an ECC 6.0 dual stack system. We would like to be able to create transport package in the portal and automatically assign it to a newly transport request.
We now have problems stating " No valid transport request found; consult your system administrator". We have also had some issues saying that the epa file does not exist, but it is definitely there.
    Ant ideas?
    Best regards,
    Jan Laros
Note: I have read the several blogs and how to guides concerning CTS+ and the configuration already.

    Defaulttrace states the following:
#1.#005056A13B4B006900001C25000003250004413CCA59E699#1197629255525#com.sap.portal.pcdadmintools#sap.com/irj#com.sap.portal.pcdadmintools#CBALLEMANS#125576##neith.efteling.nl_POD_3367950#CBALLEMANS#c8c3b220aa3111dc96e5005056a13b4b#SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_3##0#0#Error#1#/System/Server#Java### [com.sapportals.portal.pcd.admintools.export.ExportCTSHandling] Could not attach epa file to transport request

  • Best Practice EPA files...

    Hi,
i found the the following  EPA files from SAP Best Practices for Portals- V1.70 :
    1)BP_ALL.EPA
    2)BP_EC_ALL.EPA
    3)BP_ECC_BL.EPA
....The question is that whether i can use the "iviews" in these files to give to my users ...or whether this iviews are only for demo purpose(i could see that this are a prototype files)....if this files are a prototype ....can i find the original EPA files...any where else?
    Rgds,
    P.Navakanth

Apple has already hidden about half of the folders on a typical OS X install. The ones that make up the Unix core of the OS. So unless you know how to find those, you'll never have to worry about them.
Aside from that, you just want to keep away from the System folder and any of the Library folders. Nothing else should be too crucial to the OS running.
Of course if you wanted to elaborate on "a little strange" we might be able to be a bit more helpful.

  • Can you use PDF Pack to open and read PDF files?

Can you use PDF Pack to open and read PDF files?

    Hi Keith,
PDF Pack is a conversion tool which would convert PDF to different formats and vice versa. It cannot be used for reading PDFs.
If you want to open and read PDF file you can use Adobe Reader.
You can download Adobe Reader from below mentioned link.

  • Programmatically create transport packages (*.epa files)

    Hi fellow SDN members,
Does anyone know is it is possible to programmatically create transport packages, i.e. *.epa files using an SAP API?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robin van het Hof

    Hi Michael,
Actually your blog was a great help as well.
I had created something similar, with the addition of deployment dates of PAR files, displaying certain manifest properties, dependencies, etc.
I am able to select all modified objects from a certain period, but the missing part is creating the actual export
(ps: I consider myself an expert as wel )
    Kind regards

  • Viewing example EPA files

In my BO integration kit install there are some sample iview files with a .epa extension.
I'm wondering how I can view them.
Do I have to import them into my portal before I see them using Sys Admin -> Transport Packages -> Import or can I see them some other way?
    example file is called:
    com.businessobjects.pct.sap_pik.epa
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hi ,
You have to see the epa file after importing into portal.
Whatever you mentioned is one method and you can deploy using sdm also.
    better to choose import method.
check below thread for more information

  • How to import .epa file from local m/c

    Hi All,
I am trying to import .epa file from client (local machine), but the "client" option is disabled under the Import. Also, I don't have remote access to the server.
Is there any other way to import this .epa file from my local m/c
    Regards,
    Nikhil

    Nikhil,
I would also suggest you to check your portal permission to perform this option. Once you click on the "client" option you get a browse option to browse and select .epa file from the local system.
