Homesharing and App sharing; Help?

Hi all, I'm trying to share iPod/iPhone/iPad apps between computers on my network using Apple's Homesharing.
Sharing music, movies, podcasts, books, etc. between said computers works just fine and dandy. When I try and transfer apps from the other computer to mine and visa versa, an error dialogue says "The file "-insert app name here-" could not be copied because this computer is not authorized."
Doesn't the fact that we can share other media mean that my computer is in fact authorized? I've tried deauthorizing all computers through the iTunes Store interface, and reauthorizing the computers on my Homesharing network, to no avail.
On another homesharing network, previous to my deauthorization of other computers, Homesharing of apps has worked for me in the past. I wonder what might have changed?

I buy plenty of apps, and so does my roommate. It just doesn't make sense for us to purchase the same apps, and HomeShare, a solution brought to us by Apple, is exactly what we need to make this work, and its not working.
And the bit about me "really, really, really" needing those apps? Completely a joke.

If Other (the yellow bar) is too big something is corrupted. The only solution (that I know of) is to restore from your most recent backup using iTunes (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766).

No web sign in access for Verizon online backup and file sharing - HELP!

I need to sign-in via web browser to my backup files in my Verizon Online Backup and File Sharing service. The Verizon site redesign redirects the old URL with a sign in to a sales page with no way to reach my stored files.
I contacted Verizon support more than a week ago about this asking for a URL with a sign in option to the cloud, was told that it was a problem affecting many customers (obviously eveyone with the online backup and filesharing service!) created by the redesign and that they would have a page created to allow login within 24 hours. I've heard nothing back and still have no access.
I made very clear that this was a HUGE problem for me, as I'm out of the country and rely on file access, and was on deadline for a critical professional project. The support tech I was on live chat with assured me they were working on it and that he would contact me via email as soon as it was resolved. Lots of apologies, etc. but now, a week later ... still no access and no contact. Astonishingly unprofessional.
When I tried again to find a link and/or contact support on Friday I was given no option to file a support ticket, chat with support or do any other kind of follow up. I've tried every search string option possible, including the name of the service with "sign in" appended (the Verizon nomenclature)--site searches a week ago for the service name returned null results. Web searches produce summaries from the old "My Services" page that include "sign in" but those links now redirect to the sales page that tells me how great it is I'll be able to access my files with a web browser with Online Backup and File Sharing. But no option to access the service.
Has anyone figured out a workaround or have a saved URL that still resolves to a Sign In portal?
I grow more desperate by the day. Thanks for any assistance.

I just wasted a lot of time on this same issue -- it turns out I couldn't find my way into the web application because I normally log into a subaccount, and you have to be logged into the primary. I had tried logging into the primary but apparently hadn't tried all possibilities from there.
So I chatted with Verizon support and got the phone number for Online Backup support, left them a message (because their hold music is so repellent I couldn't stand to remain on the line, maybe that's deliberate) and got called back about four hours later (and a second callback the next day, since I hadn't responded to the the voicemail they left on the first callback).
So here are the instructions (until they change the web site again...)
1. log into the primary account (not a subaccount)
2. click My Verizon
3. click My Services on the left
4. click Broadband Essentials and Extras (right under My Services)
5. click the Manage button next to My Subscriptions
6. click the Verizon Online Backup and Sharing xx MB button

AE CS3 layers + timeline disappear and app freezes - help!!!

I am on a Mac Xeon 8core running Leopard.
as of several days ago, for no apparent reason (no QT updates, no software updates of any kind), AE CS3 started acting crazy, with freezes after layers or the timeline in certain comps would not show up. This was random, as well: not the same comps would have problems each time I relaunched the app. and sometimes, there is no problem at all. In other words: Buggy.
I did a clean uninstall/reinstall from the DMG, things were better briefly, and now it's happening again.
Any help would be VERY appreciated.

Mmh, sounds more like a generic breakdown on the operating system level, possibly some issues with Quartz composer and/or the OS loosing track of your screen configuration. Have you looked into that?

Device and app sharing separate apple I.d's

Hello I am new two apple gadgets but am getting hooked on them.
My situation is I have iPod and another family member has one.
I put iTunes on old p.c. And syncing between both was fine.
I got new p.c. No iTunes on it yet.
Now it may get a little complicated..
I bought an iPhone with different I.d. I will use this in iTunes when I
put it on my new windows p.c.
So when I put iTunes on p.c. I think I can link my old apple I.d. To it
So iPods will sync and iPhone will sync. This should work me thinks.
Now I have another addition to the apple family an iPad this iPad will
Be used by me and another family member with separate apple I.d.'s
So I will have to add another apple I.d. To iTunes on my p.c.
Question 1: can I have three apple I.d.'s linked to my p.c. iTunes?
My iPhone has iCloud maybe that will come in handy and the iPad has iCloud too
But I was thinking the iPad iCloud should be for family members apple. I.d. As
They will use it regularly and I don't want all the apps and stuff off my iPhone going on it.
But the odd app on my phone I would like to use on iPad.
Question 2: can I put certain apps on iPad or vise versa. Using iTunes or icloud?
If you understood all that. Well done it was starting to confuse me a bit reading through it.
I did read lots of FAQ s but they confused me more the more I read of them.

Printing and File Sharing Help

1) My school recently upgraded my Mac lab to the new 27" which has Mavericks on it. I have been unable to print to our two printers, Canon Pro9000 and Canon iP4300. I installed the driver that Canon had on it's website. I reset my printers. When I readded them it tried to install software it detected as missing, but was unable to and told me I may still be able to use the printers. I did all software updates available, but it did not help. After adding the printers, I try to print something and the printer icon comes up and instantly flashes and disappears. When you open the print queue through system preferences nothing is there but a warning message stating that there is software missing.
2) File sharing does not work like it used to! I went through and turned on guest access for file sharing so that students could send files to each other. They are not able to just put items in the public drop box like our previous computers (Snow Leopard 24") without connecting to the computers, but they cannot connect unless I have a password on the user account. If they do put a password in and send the files that way, the files cannot be opened on the other computer because the permissions are not right. I tried changing the permissions in the information box, but that didn't work. They have the little red icon on them.
On our previous computers we were always able to file share and the files were never restricted so this is new territory to me as to why it doesn't work the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as my extensive research has not led to the results that I need.

Update, in case anyone sees this... I did a software update on the old iMac that the printers are connected to and found a different driver update there. I don't know why I didn't think to check there first. That all works now.
However, I could still use help with the file sharing issue, if anyone knows.

Setup Leopard for Email, DNS and File Sharing Help!!

I'm new to configuring Leopard and I'm a bit confused. I already configured windows server but it's my first Mac Server
My questions:
1- Which name should I use for the DNS? I have a domain registered, do I use mydomain.com? I won't be hosting websites here as they are hosted somewhere else.
2- How do I configure email to use mydomain.com? I'm really confused here, because on my first try, when sending emails it was coming as [email protected] instead of [email protected] I don't want to redirect the MX records until I do this.
3- when creating users it doesn't take @mydomain.com as default on the email address, do I have to type it manually?
Please help!! I need to have this working ASAP!!

hi, and welcome to Apple Discussion.
1. There are no hard and fast rules, but it is a good idea to have a dns A record and reverse record in the format of say 'myservername.domain.com' and call your server myservername.
2. the fact that you have the term 'local' in there, would suggest you don't have a correct forward and reverse DNS setup. That is not the end of the world for email, but best to get the DNS setup first then reboot the server.
3. Correct. You can add the format [email protected] as a secondary name in the workgroup setting.

My iPad 2 will not download/sync books, music, movies, and apps. HELP ME!

My BRAND NEW iPad 2 that I opened yesterday will not download 4 books and a Rosetta Stone Application. I have been waiting for two hours now, and have done everything I can think of. I disconnected it from the internet, I shut it down and restarted it, I tried downloading a small, free app to see if it would jump start the download process, but nothing has worked yet. I am extremely frustrated that this $850 tablet will not do something as basic as download an eBook on it's second day of use. Does anybody have any ideas???

Brand new? Heck, I'd call Apple.
However, if you prefer, we can walk you through some standard procedures. Start with a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

Then stop trying to use HomeShare and use one of the other options listed in the document from which your question was posted.

Remote app and home sharing

remote app & home sharing worked on my new iPad (3rd gen) but did not work on my iPhone 4. this went on for a week or so but now both of them (remote app and home sharing) work on my iPhone but stopped working on iPad. I tried re installing itunes to 10.6.1.7 (latest version) with no luck. please help because i prefer using my ipad to control my pc

Be sure that all devices are on the same network.
If apple tv and remote are on same homeshare you should be able to select and control the apple tv from with in the remote app.
If apple tv and the itunes are on the same homeshare the apple tv will see the itunes library (and shared photos) in the computer section.
Additionally if these are all on the same homeshare you should see both the apple tv and the itunes library in the remote app.

Help with LTE and Internet Sharing for BUIlD Lumia...

I received the Lumia 920 when I was at BUILD 2 weeks ago. I followed the instructions and the phone mostly works on AT&T. I had a 900 so I assumed my LTE and Internet Sharing plan would easily transfer. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. I called AT&T gave them my IMEI number but it's not in their system and is not recognized as a Lumia 920. Because this is not an "AT&T phone" they wouldn't do much more to help. My data connection only ever shows 4G, never LTE as my 900 does and I cannot enable Internet Sharing even though it's on my data plan. I believe this is all controlled by the IMEI number.
Is there anything Nokia can do to help us? I can't imagine I'm the only one having this problem! I'm going to try again to see if I can get the issue escalated and maybe they can force the IMEI number to be recognized as a 920.

Sorry I never came back to update. The fix, as has been noted already, is to make sure AT&T has your IMEI as another 920 or your old 900 so that you get LTE (which appears as "4G"). Then, in the Nokia Access Point config setting (under System Config), make sure LTE2 is selected, then install an additional keyboard (I tried both Spanish and Chinese). This will force an OTA update that seems to enable Internet Sharing. I had to redo it a second time when I updated my Nokia Access Point app last week, but I just re-installed a NEW keyboard and got Internet Sharing back. The recommended solution for most families is to share the same Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases, so you can share your purchases, but us different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud. With this arrangement, each person can automatically download purchases made on the shared ID (by turning this feature on in Settings>iTunes & App Stores), while keeping their FaceTime calls, text messages and iCloud data (including photo stream) separated. There is no requirement that the ID you use for purchasing be the same as the ID you use for these other services.

but can only see songs, and movies in the sharing, but not books and apps.
what is the problem?
