Honest Opinion of Infinity

Hello guys and gals,
After 3 days of completely misunderstanding from both myself and BT (Mostly) I ordered my Infinity Option 2. I leave in Earlsfield and the best broadband speed I get at the moment is 1.7MBps (yes I know) so BT is my only option. But spending 24 hours in here reading about the service , P2P restrictions and that unlimited is not unlimited I am getting really worried that I made a huge mistake... But at least I can still cancel my order and not get locked in a 18 month poor service and a broadband that is not really quick unless you want to read TEXT HTML pages which I can do easily with my Iphone almost ..
I am not a huge downloader but I am fair I will say. Anything between 50GB to 150GB a month I will say but its all mostly in P2P ... I dont download games or movies (as I have a Blockbuster Home membership for 12pounds a month on nice bluray quality) but I do download TV shows that I cant purchase in UK (Greek or Australian TV SHows not illegal) ..
I have been with Sky (easynet) for 3 years now and the connection has not ONCE dropped or not worked but the speed of 1.7M is a bit annoying just as I paying the same as others that get speeds of 20MB..
So what is your true experience of BT and if I should keep my order.. I need to have P2P connectivity (and I have read all the forums) but I can deal with P2P been at off peak hours as long as I can get good speeds off-peak.. At the monent I get 210Kbp/s MAX at all times ......
I really want to give BT a chance but the India helpdesk and order taking was appalling and look I am not British  myself but at least get a call centre that can speak English and can use some common sense instead of reading a paper sheet infront of them...
Any feedback would be highly appreciated as I have a week to cancel the order... I wonder if this post will ever make it to the forums

I had a new line and Infinity Option 2 installed on Tuesday (8th February).  My IP profile for Infinity is:  38.7 mbit down & 10 mbit up.  So far I've not had any issues with speed - regardless of the time of day/night.
I use Sky Player a lot (daughters don't let me near the Sky remote most of the time so Sky Player is perfect for watching what I want on my laptops or desktops) and it works flawlessly at the top quality at full screen.  I also have another line with Sky Unlimited on it which is also pretty good, but it would stutter/freeze from time to time when watching live football via Sky Player.
Since having Infinity installed I have run 2 speed tests via the BT Speed Tester - (images for the results can be viewed by clicking on my name and viewing my image gallery) -
Test1: Throughput= 33349 Kbps download & 7308 Kbps upload
Test2: Throughput= 32951 Kbps download & 7890 Kbps upload
Test3: Throughput= 34853 Kbps download & 8233 Kbps upload
Test4: Throughput= 33765 Kbps download & 7982 Kbps upload
Test5: Throughput= 35320 Kbps download & 8207 Kbps upload
Test6: Throughput= 32541 Kbps download & 8066 Kbps upload
Speeds have been constant for me & I've been keeping an eye on things via various speed testers and via downloading files.
BBC i-player works flawlessly - used it to watch Panorama & Being Human to name but a few things.
As for dealings with BT staff - I have only dealt with sales of late and they sorted out a human error with my original line & Infinity install order without any fuss.  I've had a phone line with BT for about 15 or so years and never had any great problems when needing work done to fix any faults.  This is the first time I have been with BT as an ISP though and I have had no dealings with Tech Support other than what I have seen here on the forums.
I hope this helps give you an idea of how things are going from my point of view as a new internet customer with BT, but an old hand with regards being a land line customer.
I can't say anything negative regarding my experiences so far as there's been nothing there to complain about, but be sure I'll soon say if I run into problems.
Kind regards... Tom

  • Honest opinion on the iphone

due to this new "price drop" im considering getting an iphone. im a student and couldnt get myself to spend $600 on a phone but now its a little more manageable. i cant really comprehend what the iphone actually has wrong with it. it seems like the people who talk bad about it are the people who dont have one. i need to know the truth about what works and what doesnt. i have a mac so i dont have to deal with that crappy windows corresponding junk.
i just wanna know from people that actually have one. i hear about all these "problems" and it makes me a little weary. ive been to the store and played with the phone many times and it seems really amazing.
so i guess the real question is... is it worth it???
and when you are texting can you turn the phone and have the keyboard horizontal while composing texts??

Definitely not worth the old price! And probably now, definitely worth the reduced price. Beautiful phone, Amazing interface; fun stops there. You are restricted to ATT and ATT is hit and miss; clear and crackly, in and out regardlesss of bars. Edge is slow. Synching is problamatic (windows/Outlook), the "real internet" lacks Flash and other real internet technologies, No games unless you have internet access, No IM, No MMS, No local storage, smartphone portion of device lacks smartphone features and conveniences, phone needs to be reset frequently, locks up quite a bit when trying to answer calls with BT headset, build quality looks great but case is separating from bezel, slippery to hold and extremely expensive to repair, no removeable battery, too many clicks (button presses) to access standard features like phone. You asked for an Honest opinion. My recommendation is to wait for the 2 iPhone rumored to be out this fall, or for the 2nd Generation iPhone. It is a cool phone, but bragging rights are gone, and fixes are slow to come. They've got an 8 cylinder hitting on 6. If you just need a phone, don't want smartphone features, and you have a lot of money, then go ahead and get it. If you need smartphone features then I'd say get something else and don't look back. My recommendation would be to get a much cheaper phone and buy the new iPod Touch. I think you'd get a lot more utility with that combo.
I know this won't be a popular post, but he did ask for an honest opinion, and this is mine. Flame me if you wish, but we all have our own perspectives, mine is just one of them. And yes, I did my homework, I do like the phone, but can find no way to justify the cost of it, the speed of patching, and the customer service.

  • I need an honest opinion on whether or not to buy a macbook now

Here's the deal-- I'm going to college in 4 weeks. I was really looking forward to finally buying a new computer-- my first laptop, my first Mac. I've been following developments in the Macbook line, reading these forums on and off, and I would like your honest opinion: should I buy a Macbook in the next two weeks or so, or do you think that it has too many problems to warrant paying 1500+ dollars?
I'm also going to college in a rather rural location, pretty far away from an Apple Store, so if problems do crop up, I would be basically relying on phone tech support.
My main worry are these reports of Macbooks shutting down without warning. I intend to use this computer for everything, including writing papers, and just the thought of my computer shutting down like that gets me frustrated.
So, do you think Apple has been working to fix these problems that people have been reporting? If you've recently bought a Macbook, are you happy with it? Should I go for this product, or wait until next summer or this Christmas, whenever they release the second generation? (Does anyone have any idea when that will happen, from past product release cycles?)
    Thank you for your advice.

    Hi there!
I just recently bought my first mac, a white Macbook 2.0 Ghz. I am one of those unfortunate souls who happened to get a mac which turns yellow due to sweet...you can imagine how ****** I was when I noticed the discoloration and read about the problem on these forums. Taking into consideration the money I paid, the problem I am facing, and the fact that its my first mac, I think you can accept my opinion as honest.
I say go for it. Even with the unsolved problem I have at the moment I love my mac. Its extremly practical, so easy to use and ever since I got the nack of it I've been encouraging all my friends to switch. When I purchased I was thinking of maybe selling it if I don't like it or getting windows, but I did neither. How long did it take to get the nack of it? I called a friend after I purchased and asked him to give me some tips. He said the most important is "always think of an easier solution, then in windows". He was so right Once i sat over a problem I had for 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do. Finally I searched these forums and than beat myself with a blunt object when I realized how simple it would have been to do what I was trying to. My friends make fun of me and say I praise mac so much I should work at their PR office.
I wouldn't worry about not being close to a store, because as many people mention on these forums also, using phone assistance is often better. Unless your talking to a genious, people in the store say the stupidest things sometimes...I am going to get my discoloration problem solved over the phone also, its much quicker than talking it to a store, even though I am in NY!
The only reason I think you may want to wait, is because supposedly the new os is coming out in august and you may want to get a mac with the new software, if its only a matter of weeks, but gets some info on that from others, cause I am not sure about the exact release date etc.
    Hope all goes well
    All the best
    Rob

    I've been asked to update

    don't mind.
Some people don't use Meta Tags or Keywords and you'll find
very few on this site, but I still use them on my own sites, what

That isn't me. I can't really apologize for something someone
    else did.
Since I haven't criticized you or your web sites at all, I
    have no idea why
    you're going after me.
Here's what I said was childish: you running an un-asked-for

appreciate it if you would just leave me alone. If it bothers

  • Honest Opinion about Metalink3 replacing Customer Connection

I had a look at metalink3, and as a PeopleSoft Customer Connection user, I would definitely not log in to that site again.
Its by far the worst possible solution that Oracle has implemented...
    Honest Opinions PLEASE

You are right, it is becoming very painful to find something helpful through the knowledge tab. We should be able to expend the subject and see the subtitel without going inside, means often we have to go up and choose an other link if the first was wrong.
I don't know, but it seems the new design of the Oracle supports are not for technical people who wants fast search, and clear information.
By the new site, nothing help in that way.
One more thing is the search of product, no list, we are force to put something which exactly match to whatever exists...
Let's see by the coming Friday how Peoplesoft will be entirely intregated into Metalink3, but seems hopeless to get a better interface.
    Nicolas.

  • Honest opinion

In your opinion, Is ipad worth the $$$?

Yes, it is worth it to me. I bought it from Best Buy (64 GB 3G). During a recent auto trip it was ideal for my purposes. I used the photo storage to show photos to aged family members who could view the photos easily thanks to the generous screen size. The iBook feature is a wonder but beware it is a not a light weight device compared to the basic types of e-readers. Also, the Apple book library is rather sparce currently. With the nice speed of hotel wifi I enjoyed greatly the access to favorite web forums during the trip. I'm also a movie buff and it is a pleasure for viewing those.
I truly enjoy its portability, informality and ease of viewing for my aging eyes.
I don't recommend this device as a laptop substitute especially for work related purposes.

  • Okay. I want your *honest* opinion

Once upon a time, I needed an MP3 player so I decided to get one at Wal-Mart. It was the Creative Zen Micro and it was almost 200 hundred dollars. This player brought me much joy throughout but eventually, it stopped wanting to connect to the computer 8 out of 0 times. Now it still works and you can play music on it and stuff but this had me fed up. Flash forward a year, a month and some odd days and I decide that it's time for a new MP3 player. I surf the web, going to Wal-Mart's website and voila! I find a Creative Zen Vision: M and it's only 200 dollars! Considering that my 5 gig Zen Micro was almost that much I felt that I'd be getting a deal with this 30 gig player that also plays videos!?Flash forward some odd days. This player acts up just like the Micro did; it doesn't want to connect when I want it to. Maybe about 7 out of 0 times it connects. Even worse, one day it decided to freeze on me and I had to reset it. It took me to Recovery Mode where I saw 4 options:?Clean UpFormat AllReload FirmwareReboot?I tried to Clean Up, but nothing. I Reboot several times only for the player to come back to Recovery Mode. It's been in this stage for almost 3 days now. Some would say I need new firmware (which is probably true) but how can I get that if the player doesn't connect to the computer at all? It doesn't even recognize it. I've tried many, MANY different things including today, I tried following the directions to get it to be recognized but to no avail. The question is this: Do I say 3rd time is the charm and fork over another 200 bucks for one more Creative Zen Vision or do I pay the extra 50 bucks and get a white iPod Video? My brother has used Apple iPods all his life and aside from him smashing the screen on one, his has worked fine. But to be perfectly honest, I don't want to get an iPod that much; I find that Creative's Zen Vision: M is one of the most attracti've players that I've ever seen. Mine is a light blue and while it worked, I was in Heaven (and I don't even believe in God:P)!?Now I'm just pissed. What would you do?!

Well, first step, when did you buy the Vision? If it was less than a year ago, you could likely get it repaired cheaper than you can buy a new one. In this case, you may wish to contact Customer Support and see what options you have available.

  • Need honest opinion :)

Hey guys need some honest opinions here. I want to get 2 of the MSI lightning 7970's. Well I was also looking @ the powercolor HD 7970 vortex ll it has a nice core clock of 1100MHZ and 1425 memory. The msi lightning has 1070 mhz and 1400MHZ, now according to actual MHZ specs the powercolor is faster, but we all know the MSI is faster. Well I can get the powercolor for almost $100 cheaper its $399 vs $489 MSI. I need a new case and buy going with the power color I can get the one i want because I save almost $200.00, if I go with the MSI it will be a while beofer i can get the case I want but I really do need one know, I currently use a alienware aurora R3 and cards will be sandwhiched to tight, so i really need a case. What are your guys thoughs of the powercolor vortex card?

This is a MSI forum and we can't discuss or recommend products competing with MSI products anyway.
The MSI Radeon 7970 Lightning is a great card. It features a way advanced custom MSI PCB with the unique GPU reactor (an add-on PCB that holds additional tantalum capacitors, which helps providing power for the GPU in extreme situations). It also offers the unique triple overvolting feature when using MSI Afterburner.
The Lightning would therefor be a perfect choice after all.

  • I need someones honest opinion about my classe's lab final

hello, my name is Professor John Mane, i am teaching AP java in a high school and would like to know if anyone thinks that this would be good for the lab final- i would like to know if anyone can do it and if can, how long it takes you to do it,
    thank you
Write a class whose ultimate purpose is to either sum al the numbers or take the product of all numbers between 2 limits, skipping numbers, if desired, at regular intervals. The user is given the opportunity to specify the operation (sum or multiply), the limits (either decreasing to increasing or increasing to decreasing), and the skip interval (for example the user wants to sum every third number between 2 and 9 = 2 + 5 + 8 = 15). The user is also given the option to either add or multiply this calculated value to the previously calculated result. At the conclusion of the operation, the user is asked if (s)he wants to continue or to terminate the program. If continue is the option, the whole process begins again.
There will be a test program whose only job will be to create an object which is an instance of this class and to print out job completed x times (where x indicates the number of calculations performed) after the user elects to terminate. It is required that the class have a constructor, a public method to process input and control the flow of execution from the users point of view, and non public methods to do the calculation and print out the results (when invoking a method from within a class, no object or class needs to be provided; just supply the name of the method).
I plan to begin grading on december 30th, so i would like to know if anyone out there can do this- and if can please send me the finished project- my email is [email protected]

bsampieri: yes, it's a ploy. Even assuming a teacher had decided to wait until this late in the semester to come up with an assignment, do you really think they would've decided on when they wanted to start grading it rather than, you know, when they would assign it?
Also, who introduces themselves as "my name is Professor John Mane"? For that matter, why would someone with the title "professor" be teaching an "AP Java" (high school) class?
And isn't "AP Java" really "AP Computer Science"? This doesn't really prove he or she isn't a professor as much as it proves that he or she is a dolt who doesn't even know the name of the class.
Let's see, there's also the aforementioned fact that "send me the finished project" is inconsistent with the desire to see "if it's a good lab final". If he or she is really a professor, they should have no problem actually doing it themselves. And if they can't do it themselves, they really shouldn't be assigning it to kids just learning the language.
I'd add that teachers wouldn't tend to give an assignment like this due over the holidays, but apparently this guy's teacher is enough of an arse to do that very thing. Unless the OP is giving themselves enough time to customize the code so that a google search for it won't find this thread.
I sincerely hope no one answers this jackanape, so that he or she will have wasted all the time coming up with this elaborate scheme and still fail his or her assignment.

  • I have upgraded to Infinity 2 but speed is capped!

I have been with BT Infinity for 20 months and very happy with the service. Gaming, surfing the net with super speeds with no problems at all.
So as a result of this excellent service I have been provided, I decided to renew my contract and upgrade to 'Infinity 2'.
I upgraded on 31 May 2012 but as of yet, I have not see any difference in speeds, infant I have done several speeds tests which show my line has been capped. I am sure it takes around 10 days for the upgrade to complete where I will experience high and low speeds until my broadband line is stable. My question is: How can they measure how much more my line can take if it has already shown it is capable or more yet it has now been capped to a lower number.
Below I have posted speed test results of before and after the upgrade using: http://speedtester.bt.com/.
Speeds tests before the upgrade on 31 May 2012:
    Speedtest taken: 28.4.2011
    Download 33025 (capped at 35738):
    Upload 8188 (capped at 10000):
    Speedtest taken: 28.4.2011
    Download 33027 (capped at 36635):
    Upload 7926 (capped at 10000):
    Speedtest taken: 24.5.2012
    Download 36000 (capped at 38720):
    Upload 6500 (capped at 10000):
    Speedtest taken: 30.5.2012
    Download 36.29 (capped at 38.72):
    Upload 7.11 (capped at 10):
Speeds tests after the upgrade on 31 May 2012:
    Speedtest taken: 1.6.2012
    Download 40.93 (capped at 43.55):
    Upload 6.56 (capped at 20):
    Speedtest taken: 3.6.2012
    Download 36.01 (capped at 38.3):
    Upload 6.14 (capped at 20):
What I cant understand is that on 1.6.2012 the screenshot above shows my line achieved a Download of 40.93 yet I see todat that my line is now capped at 38.3! My question is how on earth can the BT testers see if my line can take more if they have capped it to 38.3! In logic tearms and for the fact I am paying for more, I just don't understand why that have capped it at all. As seen in pics above the uploads have never been capped, why the downloads when we are paying for more.
    Thank you for your time

I was thinking more on the lines of a week, DLM won't magically increase your profiles over night, it could be a week or so at least and considering you've only just upgraded it would be worth leave.
However, if you want some help contact the mods: https://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
It takes up to 3 days to get a response from them either by email or phone.
I can't say for sure, but for the moment they may or may not entertain you as from Dean's post on the Infinity board he suggests you leave your line stabilise for 10 days.
In my honest opinion, i would leave it unti the 10 days are up from when your upgrade went through, just to be sure and on the safe side.

  • BT Infinity in the village - or is it?

    Hi,
BT Infinity is in my small village - and I want to get a slice of it.....  My neighbours are signing up and I visit the BT site to be faced by a message that says it is not available in my area?
I am perplexed - for the road I live on I checked the adress checker and numbers 21+ can have infinity.  I live at no 5 and when I call in to the Customer Care they tell me I'm probably on a different exchange (ad nauseum - they have no clue).  My heighbours and I are cabled to the same cabinet, physically we are less than 50m apart.
What is going on?  This is my lifeblood as my wifes small business and my ability to work from home and not spend 1hr45min slogging up to London.
Is there a mistake in the Openreach records, my house was built in the 1980s - so cabling is relatively new (same as my neighbour).  The SamKnows site say it is available - where can you go to find out?
I read the FAQs - the Wholesale checker thinks I'm not even a BT customer (have been to 15 years) thats where I get my 1MB Broadband from (speedy heh!).
The whole thing is frustrating - BT block any attempt to ask any questions - I just feel so upset.
    Where can I get help?
    regards TW

Hi tonywardie and welcome to the forum, as i found out of recent, people on the same road, or even postcode can be attached to 2 different exchanges which is unusual wiring in my honest opinion.
If you let us know your postcode, i can do some checking for you.

  • Please Give me your opinion on my website

Ok first off let me say I am not a professional and am doing
our webpage on a real low budget because we are a non-profit. I am
still learning how to use Dreamweaver, but I would love an honest
opinion about how I am doing. As of now I have a good start on the
About us section and am slowly working into the others. I just want
some feedback from some of you about how it looks.
Thanks in advance for any advice and/or tips you may have.

It looks okay from here. Anything in particular you're

  • My opinion on WD Raptor as boot drive

After doing much research, I decided to buy the WD 150 ADFD and use it as a boot drive in my MacPro 2.66. In the other drive bays, I have two WD RE320's as RAID 0, and a single WD 500 for storage.
The reason I'm posting is not to specifically ask a question, but to give my honest opinion on whether a single Raptor makes for a good boot drive or not. As I did my research on the web, I found the general consensus that the Raptor was the drive to buy if you could afford it. The noise was supposed to be not that noticiable, and the speed vs lack of storage was a reasonable trade-off. It's supposed to be the premium SATA drive! As it turns out, I found that consensus to be wrong, and my trust in others opinions is going to cost me a 15% restocking fee. I bought a Raptor last week and have been trying it out over the holidays. I'm sending it back tomorrow and eating the restocking fee that Newegg charges for returns.
The reason I'm returning the drive is because, first off, the speed is not that significant when you consider the premium you are paying for it. The Raptor shaved about 3 seconds off my boot time. Big deal (sarcasm). Applications open maybe a second or two faster (big deal again), though it's hard to tell on my MacPro because it's so fast to begin with. As for general "snappiness" to the OS and general computing, I found NO discernable difference between the Raptor and the stock Seagate that shipped with the computer. Working with Final Cut Pro, I didn't notice any difference in performance and that is my primary application. The RAID 0 is probably having more positive effect on rendering than the Raptor. Then there is the noise... first let me say that the Raptor is quiet when it's at idle. I have no issue with that. The problem for me is that when the head starts seeking, the sound is jarring. Like microwave popcorn? Tadadadadadada...tick....tick....tick....tadadadadada.
What makes the seek noise so bad is that the computer is normally so quiet by comparison. So, if I'm sitting in my office and it's really quiet, all I hear is the faint sound of my X1900 fan. Then the Raptor kicks in and it's like finger nails going across a chalk board. Okay... maybe that an exaggeration, but it really is distracting! I also really hate when the Raptor just does a random loud click when your surfing the web or not doing anything disk intensive. Like, as I'm writing this post... click.......(silence)................... click, click...............(silence)... you get the idea. None of my other drives do that.
I think the Raptor is probably the way to go if your using them in a Raid configuration AND in an area with fairly loud ambient sound, or if you have a tendency to always have music on. However, if you are fairly sensitive to jarring noise and don't need to worry about shaving a few seconds off boot times, then I suggest to go with something besides the single Raptor as boot. Raptors in RAID is another issue entirely and I'm not knocking that. What I am knocking is when I read where someone posts that the noise in their Raptors in RAID are barely noticable. I call BS on that so beware.
I'm sending my Raptor back soon as I get an RMA and going back to the stock Seagate until I figure out what else to use. Maybe the WD SE 320 Caviar or the Maxline Pro? Something around 320GB for OS and applications only and a Windows partition.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading. Your comments are appreciated!
    Al

To be honest, I haven't run extensive scientific
tests but the ones I did perform didn't show much of
an advantage using a single Raptor as the
OS/application boot drive. Last night I booted off
the Raptor and then loaded a Final Cut project and
rendered out the timeline. The scratch disk was set
to the RAID and the media was coming off a storage
drive. It took 4 minutes 49 seconds to render the
timeline. Next, I booted off the stock Seagate 160
(7200.09) and ran the same render. The OS was an
exact same version that I'm running on the Raptor (I
had cloned the Seagate from the Raptor using
SuperDuper!). Anyway, I ran the render on the same
file and it took exactly the same amount of time. 4
    minutes 49 seconds.
Again, am I missing something here?
    You are not missing anything.
Using a "fast disk" as the system drive will improve some things, and if you are used to an older, slower disk drive then you'll probably notice a bigger difference. A Raptor in a macpro for OS use is only going to help marginally, in the way you have noted. Better, but not that much.
I'm not sure about your expectation of seeing FCP perform better in your test though. I wouldn't expect there to be any improvement there. Rendering speed tends to be limited by processing rather than disk speed for a start. Where a fast drive helps is when applications need fast reads and writes. Writing a 100GB self-contained movie from the FCP timeline to some external storage wont be speeded up no matter what system drive you have (unless the original footage is stored on the OS disk of course!). The speed will be dictated by the drive your writing to and the drive you are reading from. Unless you have set your scratch disk as your boot drive or footage is stored there or you're writing to it then the boot drive will have no effect.
Like everything in computer land, whether you need that extra power, speed, size etc always erm... "depends". having just 5% extra kick might be the difference between a realtime preview or a render for eg.
I agree with a "vibe" I am picking up from you though: that all those reviews and user comments on the web can be very misleading. If you've spent $50 more on something then its not easy to admit (even to yourself) that it wasn't ~really~ worth it. Once you see the quoted benchmarks for yourself and the 2sec reduction at boot most folks will feel the purchase was worth it. Will it make you work better? Not really. I went from a G3 B/W mac to a MacPro but the music I make is no more jolly than it was before
If you ~really~ want to see big improvements to any standard drive you have to look at RAID and more specialist solutions like scsi and fibre channel - but even these wont make your processor work any quicker!

  • Location, Location, Location

I was intrigued to find that when we moved in to purpose built block of luxury apartments in Peterborough called Connect 21 the main sales office which is at one end of the road has the facility for a 69mb Infinity line but it seems that the brand new housing development which is scheduled to have over 500 properties (in various phases) is only capable of 8mbs on a good day.
Now I understand Infinity is very much location based as to who gets it and who doesn't but this development is probably the flagship development of the area and to find much to my shock that the average broadband speed at one end of a 100 yards road is 69mbs and the other 8mbs quite frankly is crazy.
Come on BT get your act together surely if the cabling was put in when the development was built it would just be a case of connecting the darn box up.
This is the 21st Century and BT are making a big deal about Infinity but more people can't get it than can. I lived in the Netherlands 10 years ago and they had 100mb broadband then and Malaysia also. Yet we are supposed to be at the cutting edge of business. Who are you kidding??
To add to my chagrin due to circumstances beyond our control we have been living at a different apartment after a flood in the centre of town when just last week I recieved an invitation to join BT Infinity just out of curiosty I counted the nunber of homes in the street sadly it is significantly less than our new development but it seems the handfull of large solicitors, estate agents and other businesses are a far more exciting prospect for BT to provide a rapid broadband service.
An investment in Infinity is an investment in the future of our city so if you really want us to buy your products make them available or is it really a case of Location, Location, Location?

Hi and welcome to the forum, it is much more than location in my honest opinion. Firstly, only a certain amount of cabinets are upgraded per exchange ranging between 70-85% There is also planning permission from the council to dig and powering up the cabinets.
Here is a good link to find out: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/the-big-build/not-straightforward.aspx
It is sometimes luck of the draw that your cabinet does or doesn't get upgraded, in my area the same happened. They upgraded everyone's else's except for mine, logic? i don't know to be honest.

  • Pay for InContext ???

When the time past and Adobe bought the Macromedia (18 April
2005) there was a couple of major questions about Macromedia's
    products futures in Adobe's hands.
What did just happen since that time was actually very
satisfying as all of them became more stronger day by day.
Adobe introduced many other new features which are very
useful for every of us who do use those software's for different
    reasons.
Adobe InContext Editing was one of the greatest feature which
came with the Dreamweaver and let web developers create "Editable
Regions" in their home pages to edit those areas via regular major
    web browsers.
There is no charge for the moment for Adobe InContext Editing
    service.
But; THERE IS A BIG QUESTION
for people who do currently use Adobe InContext Editing in
    their web pages.
The Question is " Will Adobe Charge People For InContext
    Editing?"
Answer is very important for many of those users who did
integrated InContext in their sites as they use it free for the
    moment.
Here is an official answer from Adobe
How much does InContext Editing cost?
While in free preview, InContext Editing is available at no
    charge. The final pricing for the service has not been determined;
    however,
it will be offered as a monthly or annual subscription with a
price of US$10 to US$20 per month. Use of the service will likely
be limited to five domains, and users will be able to add domains
for an additional fee. The service may be bundled with other
value-added services for web professionals. It is up to web
professionals how they charge their clients for the service.
    Yeah US$10 or US20$, which will become US$120 or US$240 a
year for limited domains (maybe 3 domains) and additional fee for
    more.
    So
Do You Think This Charging Is Fair?
Do you think you can make ur clients pay that money?
Do you think Dreamweaver should have build in paid features?
Do you think you are going to buy it?
Do you think CushyCMS (which makes the same job for free) can
not handle the same thing for you?
Do you think you are going to buy DW for US$699 and pay more
for InContext or should be inContext for always free as Adobe will
not host nothing for us expect of ftp connection information and a
    couple of line connection reports?
Please let us about your honest opinion...
The same inquiry is posted on
    http://adobeincontext.blogspot.com/
    too.
Thank you all who do share their own opinions on this
    topic...

    Say What You Wanna Say...
Thank you all who did spend time and keep the discussion alive...I would like to summarize some very important lines which are taken from your posts regarding the "Adobe InContext Editing".
The only reason I bought Dreamweaver CS4 was because of InContext. The online videos and literature from Adobe convinced me to buy this new version. Otherwise CS3 would have done just fine for the foreseeable future.
    By doeydude
Advertised new feature of Dreamweaver CS4 ends up to be an extra that will cost HUNDREDS of dollars every year into infinity. This has to be the biggest mistake Adobe have ever made. This is only going to turn people away from Adobe products and lead them to find other companies that will provide the same product/service but give it as an included service with their software.
    By doeydude
I have registred some of my clients to InContextEditing because it is really cool for them. But when I discovered we will have to pay for that, I told them they wil be charged if they want to keep it.THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED  and it seems it is cheaper if I do the editing myself.  So I won't offer this service anymore.
    By C.MJS
Most of my clients simply will NOT pay for this simple service. As long as it remains free, I can justify our time costs, but if they start charging money, I will discontinue the service.
    By Tommy Logic
I find that the minimal changes most clients require, cost us very little time & money as it is... I would rather just do the updates in house. There are too many FREE solutions that fit most users needs. If they need a full featured comercial solution... I would go with Expression Engine all the way. Their yearly cost is less than $40!!! And they get a whole lot more.
    By Tommy Logic
Unreal, we were swayed from using a text editor and purchased DreamWeaver CS4 because of the supposed "included" content manager InContext, for our clients that desired to make simple edits. Apperantly we should have gone with Joomla or Drupal. Now we'll have to explain Adobe's surreptitious marketing tactic of "hook'em and bleed'em!" We will be sure to inform every client about Adobe's game. BAD move especially after Grant Collaborative worked so hard to straighten out this company's very disconjoined departments and recreate a new unified Adobe brand.
    By C_T
    I now realise that:
    1. It is not yet available for my country and no release date is mentioned by Adobe
    2. There will be an extra fee for the option
    3. The extra fee will be a recurring charge
I have the bad feeling I have been cheated by Adobe. The ad is misleading,
    By cocoon234
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED WEEKLY, PLEASE SAY WHAT YOU WANNA SAY...
We hope the Adobe Employees here who do help in the support forums will not take this personal and forward our voices to related persons as there are substantially of people been stuck in a difficult situation with this very important mistake of Adobe's MarketingTeam have done...
