HOORAY!!  Apple finally fixed QT!!

Just downloaded and installed the latest software update for QuickTime and it fixed the previous update issues. The problem was that the video would stall a few seconds into a movie but the audio would continue on.
So if you had this same problem due to the previous QT software update [and I know that there are more than a few here] the fix is 'IN'!!
Download & install the latest QT update and you're back in business

  • Will Apple Finally Fix Safari Close X Going Missing Issue?

As many are aware, Safari Tabs suffer from the X close button going missing after extensive use of the browser.  I'm familiar with the two main ways to get it back ie: Force Restart, or Reset Safari.  However, the issue always resurfaces at some point.  Quite frankly, it makes using Safari quite annoying to say the least.
Anyone aware if Apple will in fact have a fix for this at any point in the future? It seems to be an issue that a wide number of people have suffered from.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

No it's not. It's suddenly missing on my iPad as well. In fact, it is just many of the disastrous effects of ios 8. I now have a machine- iPad 2- that feels like my lousy Asus computer running Windows 8-- everything is sluggish, odd things like sounds which used to occur no longer occur- like when plugging in power, notes load like a slug, email loads even more slowly, problems running Youtube, etc. In my opinion the whole rollout of this new system is a disaster. I can't find one new thing I like about it, and it has made me seriously reconsider whether to ever buy Apple again. All the hyperbola...for this??? Absurd. they need to get their shop in order before releasing garbage onto the market. Less money spent glorifying the technology, more time spent doing what Steve Jobs did- make it right, make it bloody simple and elegant, and get it right the first time.

  • When will apple finally fix all the email issues for everyone? Mine is dead

I have read all of the answers to problems and have tried every solution posted and my account email is still acting like is uploading and updating but nothing comes up on the screen. I noticed that a lot of people here has some type of issue with emails which it happens to be at least for me one of the main reasons to buy the iphone (besides how cool it is)
Would apple realize all this issues and help us all to get functionality in the emails? Or there is somebody in this discussion that still have some tricks up their sleeve? I'll take every help i can get, right now I'm the joke of the office as everybody else have Treos and get their email working fine. Its frustrating and frankly the iphone beats the other phones hands down but it wont work!!!!!!!
    Help !!!!!!!

    Zapallin,
Much of what we have to work with is the email servers and settings that your email provider requires.
What type of email account are you accessing?
Do you notice the same behavior on Wi-Fi and EDGE both?
Is this your own account, a work account with an Exchange server, or a domain that you have hosted somewhere?
This article discusses, including an explanation why in the footnote, some of hte issues with sending email:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305634
This article discusses setting up an account to access an Exchange server, such as in an office environment:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305883
The note at the top mentions IMAP must be enabled on the Exchange server. In addition many workplaces put their Exchange server behind a firewall, and need to allow access past the firewall either by opening ports up, or via VPN for the Exchange server to work for users outside of the company network.
Hope this helps, and I will try to help further when we have more information about your specific email setup.

  • Apple: please finally fix the 8600m opengl issues!

When will the nvidia 8600m opengl issues finally be resolved?
Getting quite sick and tired of having to use the sdlmame software renderer this past half year of 10.5. The sdlmame opengl rendering worked fine under 10.4 and it works fine on 10.5 on different video cards, so it's definitely not the sdlmame opengl rendering code. Just a very incomplete opengl driver from apple.
    To check/reproduce:
    - make sure you have the latest xcode installed
    - install the latest stable developer packages of sdl http://www.libsdl.org/
    - download and build sdlmame from http://rbelmont.mameworld.info/?page_id=163
    - download one of the free romsets from http://mamedev.org/
    - run sdlmame using the software renderer: ./mame -rp /path/to/whereromset_wassaved <thedownloadedgame>
    - run sdlmame using the opengl renderer: ./mame -rp /path/to/whereromset_wassaved -video opengl <thedownloadedgame>
The advantage of using opengl will be that the screen will be drawn faster, just too bad it is totally useless utter crap that is being output.
Apple: please fix this! These mbp's aren't the cheapest machines around, some support would be nice.

Presuming this hasn't been addressed in 10.5.3, you can submit comments to Apple regarding Mac OS X by submitting feedback here:

  • How do I tell Apple to fix their software like apps that play sound even though the sound is turned off and not being able to disable features you hate like game center

Apple is suppose to be the pinnacle of usability and, yet, I want to throw my new IPhone 4s as far as I can and watch is smash into a million pieces on concrete. Seriously, I've already got three things that irritate the **** out of me. First, there are Apple apps that insist on playing sound even though the sound is turned off. If I flick a switch to turn the sound off, I want the sound off!!!! Second, if I do not want a totally unnecessary feature like Game Center, I should be able to disable it. I completed most of the Angry Bird levels with 2 or 3 stars and now I have to start over from square one. Maybe, this happened when I upgraded to the 4s but it sure seemed to happen when I joined Game Center. Tomorrow, I am going to reset my 4s to factory defaults to try to get rid of my Game Center account. I don't want Game Center! I do need Game Center! I hate Game Center! Finally, I had an alarm go off to wake me up and there was a Snooze button but no button to turn the alarm off. I flicked the slider to access the main screen expecting to see something to turn the alarm off but there was nothing. The alarm just kept alarming. I had to warm boot my IPhone to shut the alarm off! Really, Apple!!!!

The sound is turned off. Only, some Apple apps like YouTube and Siri make sound when the sound is turned off. It is very embarrassing when this happens at work. My question was how do I tell Apple to fix this?
Turning off game center does not work. The games just prompt me to sign in when they are started.I have tried everything I can find online to stop this behavior. It is annoying and should not happen. My question was how do I tell Apple to fix this?
The alarm went off. There was a green thing that looked like a button but pressing it did nothing. There was a red button that said snooze. I did not want to snooze. I wanted to turn the alarm off. I slid the bar to unlock the phone and there were no running apps with a button to press. The alarm just keep running. I have not had this problem since it first occurred. The alarm now shuts off when I just unlock the phone. It may have happened because I had another alarm app running. The two may have interfered with each other. I would like to tell Apple about it.
It also annoys me that the button that closes apps leaves the phone app running. If I press on a number at 6:00 AM to get information about who called me, the phone automatically dials the person back and my natural reaction is to press on the button to close the phone app but the phone keeps dialing this person at 6:00 AM. It is a bad design. I would like to tell Apple about it.
Finally, I looked all over Apple's site to try to find someplace I could send them a polite message to let them know that I was not happy with these "features" but could not find anything. It is extremely frustrating to have issues with a product and not being able to tell the manufacturer about it. So, you grow up!.
When trying to fix the Game Center issue, I saw a link someone posted to report issues with the IPad to Apple. The answer I am looking for is where is the link to report issues with the IPhone.

  • Mac OSX NOT GETTING IP ADDRESS BECAUSE OF THE DHCP(FINAL FIX)

You may get some errors when trying to connect to the wireless connection.
    LIST OF PROBLEMS:
    -Auto-Assigned IP with 255.255.0.0 Subnet Mask and a 169.x.x.x IPV4 Address
-Unable to renew the DHCP beacuse the DHCP doesn't send the IPV4 address to your iMac/MacBook
    -No IP
    FINAL FIX:
-Log to the Router Configuration page inserting the default gateway address in your browser bar(It should be 192.168.1.1 though my default gateway is 192.168.0.1.....nevermind).
-Go to DHCP tab and make sure that DHCP is ENABLED
-Go to Wireless Settings and set Channel to "1" and the Wireless mode to 802.11 bg(In some routers it's 802.11 bg mixed)instead of 802.11 bgn or 802.11 n.(IN SOME ROUTERS THERE'S ONLY .11 and not 802.11....that's the same s**t though!)
    -Reboot your router
-Shut down your machine and unplug the power cables
-When done press once the power button
-Re-Plug the power cables and turn on your MacBook/iMac
-Go to Network Settings,Advanced settings,TCP/IP and set IPV4 address to DHCP
    SOFTWARE FIX(FIREWALL CONFLICT):
-Disable ANY non-Apple firewall or network management application such as mDNS responder,etc..

    Great work, nice info, thanks!

    A FINAL FIX
Posted: Oct 16, 2006 7:45 AM in response to: Tagliente Reply Email
After much arguing on the phone with apple support, I got a straight answer. The problems are due to old iTunes software and virus protection.
    1) Uninstall iTunes, Apple Update, and Quicktime using the 'Add/Remove' software option in the control panel.
    2) Open your program files folder (Found in My Computer in the C: drive)
    3) Delete any folders that may be left such as iTunes, ipod, Apple Updater, Quicktime)
    4) Download the iTunes 7 install package from the apple website (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/). Be sure to save the file to your desktop.
    5) Exit your web browser
    6) Turn off all virus protection software. This includes firewalls, spyware protection systemguards, etc. The “how” to do this depends on your virus software. For example, with McAfee open the Security Center and click Computer and Files. Click configure. The new window has the options to turn things off. Turn everything off.
    7) Install iTunes 7 (includes Quicktime [needed for iTunes])
    8) Restart
    9) Turn virus protection and firewalls back on
    10) Plug in iPod and you’re golden!
This worked for me and I no longer get any messages about iPod in recovery mode or unable to update iPod.
    Good luck.
    Windows XP
By the way, I think I clearly stated in my post that when trying to update my nano from version 1.2 to 1.3 (after being prompted to do so from launching itunes 7.0.1.8) it will not perform the suggested update offering up a cryptic message about the files on my ipod being in use by another program.
Now, if you have any constructive ideas, it would be appreciated...

  • Nested Sequences Bug is finally fixed?

I just noticed that Apple seems to have patched a significant bug in FCP with the last update.
According to my own tests, Nested Sequences now update automatically and consistently without having to be re-added or refreshed in the timeline.
Nesting is when a sequence is placed into another sequence. Complex projects may involve several layers deep of nesting, but FCP users have been wise to avoid this useful technique because it just didn't work right.
For example, if I were to build a neat animated logo sequence, then nest it inside a standard footage sequence, the animation would play through and be scalable like any other footage. This allows for a simpler "master track" timeline based workflow where everything is not placed into the same huge sequence.
In the past, the sequence containing a nested sequence would not get updated if one made a change to the nested sequence after placing it. So if I were to change the animated logo sequence mentioned above, the change would not show up in the footage sequence that hosts it. I believe this has finally been fixed in 5.04
The nested sequence bug is a very old issue that dates back to version 1 of FCP and has been a real problem for me because of my high-volume workflow. I've been reporting the problem at Apple's feedback site and it appears they finally listened.
Why nest? Nesting is also very useful when format converting or adding letterbox, etc. I mostly use nesting because I have 100's of TV commercials that are identical but use different phone #'s. For this I nest the nearly completed spot into new sequence where the phone number is added. I can then have 100's of sequences that only contain the stuff that changes. I don't have time to explain why this works better than just rendering the master track for me, but it does.
Has anybody else noticed this fix, or am I just dreaming here? I really am excited about this.

It was fixed as I described until about a month ago, when I noticed the problem was back. This could have coincided with an OSX update. It also might have been the update to QuickTime or Pro Applications Support as well. I don't know. But the problem is back and I noticed it "the hard way" during a dub. Sorry for not amending my post when I noticed this.
This is a problem that Premiere and Avid users NEVER experience, FYI. It is a critical bug in my opinion. I believe Apple could fix this with just a few lines of code, but it seems like it just isn't on the priority list. We need to get busy with the Apple Feedback forum requesting the a fix (again). Please everybody that reads this should post a request at that forum for a fix. Thanks!

  • Airport Drops and Freezes---- Finally Fixed!

Ever since I bought my MBP in July, 2009, I have had trouble with total freezes and airport drops.
    The fixes by Apple:
    1. New hard drive, battery, keyboard, logic board
    2. Problem persisted-- new logic board
    3. Problem persisted-- heat sensor was missing the sensor part
    4. Problem persisted-- Genius said it was 3rd party software
5.Problem persisted-- local Apple certified repair shop had no idea
    6. Problem Persisted-- in the meantime I had done several erase and install. It froze up every time I installed SL
    7. Problem persisted and I took it to Apple Store last week in one last final try. After hours of testing, it froze for them. They ordered new hard drive and logic board. Then the tech noticed it freeze and dropped the internet. He checked one of the logs and saw that the airport card had lost power just before the freeze.
He replaced the airport card and it is finally fixed-- the first time since July, 2009.
So if you have freezes and airport drops, be sure to check the airport. The airport was never changed when the logic board, et.al. were replaced.

Wow! I would think replacing the airport would be the first step in this madness.

  • Vista - Sleep FINALLY fixed, still annoying Random Shutdowns

Ok, they FINALLY fixed it so the Mac Pro wakes from sleep in Vista RC1 with the recent EFI update, now they need to fix the Random Shutdowns. These occur as if you were telling your system to shutdown, I do not suspect the power supply because it is not an abrupt power loss, it gracefully shuts down, but of-course is annoying as h3ll...
Here's looking forward to the Leopard/Vista releases when all of this should be worked out!
    SH
Does Vista RC2 run any better? Have better Bluetooth support?

... well... that was really a (slap in face) help ??
I never tried sleep or hibernate, but I read the latest RTM had some fixes in there regarding better support now for laptops and sleep.
Ignorance is bliss perhaps? or, it is a mixed world? or, there is still software that is not available...
How about, curiosity? that's always been man's greatest strength, too.
Being able to run Windows Vista on Mac Pro must be something even Apple engineers are keep to do and improve on.
Every release for OS X takes a couple updates to be "ready" for use. Long-term that has meant 2-3 updates for the last three+ releases, and each release meant more work for everyone, developer and end user, while "rules" change and hardware and software has to be updated to accommodate those changes. Even good changes are still costly, and some have been costly.
I've lived and survived FIVE releases, $600+ for one machine license, and over a year of that was "1.0" issues all over again. And the same story will get played out next year, too, bet on it.
Some people like to explore linux and alternatives. I have, and while I've never felt linux offered the desktop experience I want, I thought SuSE 6.4 gave OS 8/9 a real run for the money at the time.
    Things to Love/Hate about Vista
I can now help my Dad 1200 miles away with his PC Windows w/o needing a PC. I can run multiple VMs. One computer, multiple OSs. VMware, Parallels, CrossOver, as well as native installs.
And maybe, just maybe, a more secure desktop PC will help everyone. However, a really good balanced review might actually be one from ComputerWorld - Vista may make Mac converts of IT folks!
IT folks can support XP/Vista and be running Mac OS X

  • Apple, Please Fix Your Cinema Display Adapters Already

I know this is not a new issue since there are already topics identical to my problem.  I bought my Cinema Display in 2007, since then I have had to buy 3-4 power adapters.  When they fail the screen goes black, then you unplug it and it works for a short time but as you keep using it the time they work keeps decreasing.  My question here is why, Apple, have you not fixed this problem which  I have had for the last 5 years?  The other issue besides money spent is my computer is basically worthless until Apple sends me the new part.  I either have to have a backup power supply for the Cinema Display or have a different brand monitor as a backup.  Apple, please fix this problem, I like the display, fix the adapter.

    Brian,
I had this same issue and finally found a prefPane called SwitchResX that addresses the issue that I wish Apple had. It is designed to many other things but I only use it to deactivate a second display and it seems to work well for that.

My MacBook Pro 15-inch with NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processors just failed. Do you guys know if apple still fixes them?

I tried last week. The best I could get was a discount on the repair, but the damage to my logic board by the GPU caused it to no longer boot. The program ended in December last year, but it has been extended in the past.
If you have no other damage you might be able to get a flat rate tier 1 repair if you are in the USA.

  • Tap to click not working properly in Mountain Lion. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse.  The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?

Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected.

  • The lcd screen of my 15-inch Macbook Pro (mid 2009) is separating from the case. The glue failed due to the heat.  How can I get Apple to fix this factory flaw?

The heat vented from the back of the laptop caused the glue to fail and now the screen is separating from back of the lcd case near the hinges. I know for a fact that this issue is known by Apple as I have seen the issue reported at least a dozen times.  This laptop was considerably more expensive than any comparable laptop at the time I bought it. I bought it believing that I was buying a quality product from a quality company.   I've owned many laptops and I have never seen anything like this.  My laptop is out of warranty but this is really besides the point.  This is clearly a factory defect that Apple should remedy.  What do I need to do to get Apple to fix this design flaw?
