Host resolving unawesomeness

Hi Archers,
I can browse the web (http/https/ftp), do some torrenting, all that stuff without any problem.
Now since a few days, when i try to use wget, curl, pulling trees with hg or using aurbuild, here's what happens:
[eb@blackout mercurial]$ wget http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/release/mercurial-1.0.2.tar.gz

Oh and FTR, I'm using pacman with wget and it just works.
TIA
/edit: so i tried:

so i was looking at my pacman logs and downgraded the recently updated toolchain (in [TESTING]) and everything works again... is that a bug, am i doing it wrong or did i just miss something?

  • Slow Host Resolving

    I've discovered another unusual issue that i'm kind of in the dark about.
    When I load a website, it sits for what seems like forever 'Resolving Host'. then, when it's done, the site loads like normal. Here's what I dont get. If I go to other webpages that are part of the same .com address, it loads like normal, very quick, like it should.. But, if I change to a different site (or anything with a different <something>.com, it takes forever to 'resolve host' again.
    After searching the forums, I tried "sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps=0", but didn't notice any change, so I reverted back to the default.
    To me it sounds like a DNS issue of some kind...but I could be wrong.  The other kicker... when I ping websites, my ping time is not higher then normal, that comes back as fast as it should, which eliminates a problem with ipv6 ... i think.
    This occurs in Konqurer, Firefox, and Chromium, so it's not program specific. I had this same problem in Fedora 11 (previous distro) using firefox as well, but no issues with windows 7 RC/ubuntu (used prior to fedora).
    Any ideas?

    Well, I have a 4mb DSL line, and it's configured through DHCP. My dns server's I use would probably be my ISPs. It's a local ISP, and it's normally almost instantaneous.
    I'll look into opendns, but i'm also going to burn an ubuntu livecd quick. I dont remember having the problem in windows or ubuntu prior. It started with fedora, which I just thought was an issue with firefox, but apparently not...
    It seems like the DNS servers are working correctly though, here's an example.
    I load myspace.com, and wait for the host to resolve and load. Once it's loaded, if i click on terms, or privacy policy, they both load extremely fast, because the URLs are myspace.com/something. However, if I click on jobs, it takes forever to resolve the host again because it changes from www.myspace.com/anything to jobs.myspace.com. If i click back on privacy policy, it takes forver to resolve the DNS again.
    The other possibility is it may be something with the firmware of my modem/router and may have a full buffer or something. If the problem continues on a livecd, then I know it's either DNS problem, ISP problem, or modem problem. I'll try that and post back the results.
    Thanks for the idea though, everything helps.

  • Aurget, curl: (7) couldn't connect to host (RESOLVED)

    aurget 3.4.0
    curl 7.25.0
    I can connect to anything else (even pacman) just fine, but in the past week I have seen the
    error message mentioned in the thread's tittle every time I try to update
    aur packages or install new ones. (I have been using aurget for at least two
    years without any problems. My installation is about two years old as well.)
    I can ping aur.archlinux.org just fine.

    No, there isn't. Just as a reference, pkgcl was also having problems with
    curl. Now, it is working again as well.

  • ISE Endpoint Identity Group assignment for 802.1x clients

    Hello
    I'm using ISE 1.3 to 802.1x authenticate AD PC's (machine and user with Anyconnect NAM) and to profile/mab IP Phones, printers, APs etc.
    Phones are profiled (EndPointSource of SNMPQuery Probe) and are placed automatically in the correct Identity Group.
    AD PC's aren't profiled and are listed under Endpoints withthe Enpoint Profile of "unknown"
    To place AD PC's into a particular Identity Group, I created a Radius Profiling Policy to match on the Framed-IP-Address. This works well with the AD PC appearing in the correct Identity Group (with EndPointSource of RADIUS Probe).
    My questions are:
    A phone (profiled with EndPointSource of SNMPQuery Probe) consumes a Plus licence but an AD PC ("profiled" with EndPointSource of RADIUS Probe) does not - is this correct?
    Authenticated 802.1x AD PC's have other attributes (like AD-Host-Resolved-DNs) that I'd like to use to assign PC's to an Identity Group. I can't use these attributes with any of the ISE profilers - is there a way to assign an 802.1x authenticated client to an Identity Group at the authorisation stage rather than use the profiler?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Err, no. There is no provision in EAP-TLS, PEAP (CHAP), or even basic EAP to provide network information (eg IP address/mask/gateway/DNS/etc).
    There is also no provision in Windows 2k or XP interface management software to accept IP details for interface configuration via any wireless authentication protocol.

  • RMI Security Exception

    Hi I have followed the sun java RMI trail (tutorial).
    However my server side application is giving me a security exception. I think it s because of the grant code sections:
    grant {
        permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:1024-65535",
            "connect,accept";
        permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:80", "connect";
    };My problem is that I can't understand were to put this code segment, and I read the same page over and over again, and could not find were is says were to put it!!
    As I said I think it is from this, but maybe it is from other parts! not sure! ... Maybe you need to run the server side from a web server??
    The links of the tutorial I am following is the following (from sun java website itself):
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/rmi/
    and the following link is were there is the grant permission code:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/rmi/running.html
    Thanks for any sugestions!

    I still have the exception:
    ComputeEngine exception: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission host resolve)
    java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net.SocketPermission host resolve)I followed the tutorial step by step, reading and writing the provided code so far. So this is what I have now at the moment:
    I create a permision file and I called it java.policy. In this file I have the following code:
    grant {
        permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:1024-65535",
            "connect,accept";
        permission java.net.SocketPermission "*:80", "connect";
    };Then I have the following code sugested by WirajR in the engine class, which is the server side application:
    static{
        System.setProperty("security.policy", "java.policy");
    }I compiled everything, and no errors are given. But when i run just the server side, I still recieve the above error. When I debuged the application it stops on the following line:
    Naming.rebind(name, engine);Were name is a string containing the following text :
    "//host/Compute"and engine is the class to be exposed over RMI.
    I am betting my problem is with name!! ... maybe
    or else my permission file has invalid data.
    Also wanted to add that security seems to have been taken care of in that tutorial by the following lines of code:
    if (System.getSecurityManager() == null) {
       System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    }Aren't these to set the security policy?

    Pls helo me

    You do not need to setup or configure a DNS server in a private LAN, unless you want to be reachable beyond your local home network. The local hosts file provides the same functions in terms of mapping a TCP/IP number to a name and vice versa like a DNS server. It is not designed to maintain large corporate networks with dynamic IP addresses, but easy to maintain in your small home network. Your DSL modem is most likely the a gateway for all internet traffic outside your private LAN and also re-routing DNS requests for public host resolving. Unless you explicitly configured an authoritative internet domain name for your home LAN on your DSL modem your computers may not have been assigned internet host and domainname via DHCP.
    To analyze your current situation you can use the following commands:
    # hostname
    If this shows something like "localhost.local" this means you do not have given your computer a hostname and domainname and it is using defaults.
    # domainname
    It will be "blank" if not configured.
    # ping localhost.local
    This should show resolve in your real IP address like 192.168.2.1, but will show nothing if DNS or /etc/hosts is not configured properly.
    # ping localhost
    This should result in 127.0.0.1, which is a looback interface of the TCP/IP stack.
    You need to make appropriate entries in your /etc/hosts file if you cannot use a DNS server.
    192.168.2.1 localhost.local ovmserver
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    If this does not resolve the issue you can try the below. This is not a very clean configuration, but could work.
    192.168.2.1 localhost.local ovmserver localhost
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    If you have any entry like:
    127.0.0.1 ovmserver - this is wrong and needs to be removed.
    Be aware of possible network address translation if you use VMware, in which case you need to configure your VMware network interface accordingly.

  • Agent 11g on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi all,
    i'm wondering if anyone has managed to get a 11g Grid Agent running properly on Windows Server 2008 R2. I've no issues on any other OS including Windows Server 2008, but on 2008 R2
    - the Management Service http[s]://host.domain:3872/emd/main is returning connection refused
    - OMS is not able to communicate with the Agent, e.g. deploy plugins, add targets
    however the Agent is running and returns data to the OMS, so i can see Agent Stats, the usual host information. Few other things which aren't working are for example
    - the Upload statistics on the OMS's Agent Page
    - on the Host page the Logons for that host
    Checked and played without result with:
    - Firewall
    - UAC
    - running it under administrators accounts
    There is something new in R2 which isn't well documented. Also experience some COM+ issues on R2, but that's aside the problem at hand.
    Thanks for your help.

    The IP insides Eric:
    My Target: Windows 2008 R2
    My GC: Oracle EL
    My Workstation: Windows 7
    telnet (to target on 3872) via short name works on on the target itself (guess some M$ loopback)
    telnet via FQDN works also only on the target
    telnet via IPv4 address works
    ping on shortname works from my workstation returns IPv6
    ping on FQDN works from my workstation also with IPv6 (so this shows my workstation finds the target (RDP works), but the agent port is not bound to the IPv6 address)
    ping on both from the GC host results in host not found
    We've couple issues with our own produced software and IPv6, so the easiest here was to take IPv6 out of the game plan and put the IPv4 into the GC hosts file, so that the GC host resolves the short and FQDN to the IPv4 address which works just fine.
    Only one problem which isn't an Oracle problem .... we use DHCP addresses :(
    Mysterious is only that Windows 2008 (R1) works even though those have IPv6 too. It might actually be a pure DNS issue at the end because the ping on GC should resolve at least the IPv4. Need to bug our IT people.

  • Lion web server only displays html... I need help!

    none of my external files linked up properly, but when i view the page in out of the localhost (file://Volumes...etc)  everything works fine.. Any ideas?

    If appears there is a Leopard Server firewall here, and a second and outboard and NAT-capable firewall here, but only the configuration of the latter is mentioned. Anything interesting in the Leopard Server firewall logs?
    If this is dual-NIC box (eg: an up-rated Mac Pro box or an Xserve), this could easily be a local IP configuration issue on the box.
    As for some additional tests, here are the classics:
    dig -x ipaddr - from inside and outside your network.
    traceroute ipaddr - from inside and outside your network.
    Another test is to set up a real (test) web server at the external static address, and see if that works; start eliminating pieces from the puzzle. This would eliminate the NAT layer, for instance.
    The domain does resolve to the specified IP address from out here, both the example.com domain and the www.example.com host resolve to the specified address. So this does look local; router, firewall, NAT, etc.
    I've learned to trust all "it was working before" statements after applying appropriate verification, and to occasionally use a second set of eyeballs to make sure I've entered the IP addresses correctly.

  • Java 1.5.0 Update 13 - DEinstall without MsiExec?

    Hello BoysNGirls,
    I have the JRE 1.5.0 13 on some systems installed and I want to remove them.
    Problem here, the uninstallstring under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{3248F0A8-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0150130} does NOT exists.
    Here, I should found the key Uninstallstring:
    MsiExec.exe /I{3248F0A8-6813-11D6-A77B-00B0D0150130}
    but as told, does not exist.
    Is there a possibility to remove the JRE 1.5.0 13 otherwise?
    I would like to have a clean deinstallation. Just removing the
    C:\ProgfilesDir\Java\jre1.5.0_13 is not a good solution for me.
    If anybody can held me, I'd be thankful.

    Hey Friend, did you get that JNDI problem (javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException: The connection to the remote JNDI server on host) resolved ?
    I am also getting the same error. If you know the solution can you please help

  • Deploying RMI  problem...

    Hi, i`m new at RMI stuff, I`ve been through may problems at this, but I reached the point I can`t to any more.
    Using the example of the "JAVA CONTINUED TUTORIAL", I reached to the point of starting the server.
    I do set the CLASSPATH, and build the "java.policy" files for security.
    I`m able to compile stub classes too, and put the in the JAR file.
    But when I reach to this point:
    java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:c:\jdk1.3\bin/ /*THATS MY PATH*/
    -Djava.security.policy=java.policy
    engine.ComputeEngine
    The app throws this Exception:
    ComputeEngine exception: access denied (java.net.SocketPermition host resolve)
    java.security.AccesControlContext.checkPermission .....
    at engine.ComputeEngine main( COmputeEngine java:25).
    So I`ll show my 25 line:
    ***** class ComputeEngine ****
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    if (System.getSecurityManager() == null) {
    System.setSecurityManager(new RMISecurityManager());
    String name = "\\jdk1.3\\bin\\";
    try {
    Compute engine = new ComputeEngine();
    Naming.rebind(name, engine); /* LINE 25*/
    System.out.println("ComputeEngine bound");
    } catch (Exception e) {
    System.err.println("ComputeEngine exception: " + e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    Im not that stupid for not realise that the "name" variable, is not receibing a good path, but what would the sintacticaly and semantically good to put there???? I mean, should that path exist?? (it does actually), is it badly written???
    Thanks
    Thanks.

    You're trying to start the server, right? After launching your rmiregistry?
    You do in fact have a java.policy file, right??
    (specified at the top of:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/rmi/running.html
    I recall having a permission problem at first and I resolved it I belive by defining this file and having it in the directory I was running 'java ... engine.ComputeEngine' from.
    Hope that helped. I'm encountering a similiar problem when trying to run my client, but I have my server up and running (it binded succesfully).

  • RAC and DNS balancing

    Hello. I'm interested in DNS-level load-balancing for Oracle RAC. Would clients work in the same way, if host1-vip resolves to address A, host2-vip - to address B and host resolves to both addresses A and B and we specify in tnsnames.ora:
    RAC =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = service)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
    RAC =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host1-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host2-vip)(PORT = 1521))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = service)
    (FAILOVER_MODE =
    (TYPE = SELECT)
    (METHOD = BASIC)
    (RETRIES = 180)
    (DELAY = 5)
    )

    I've tested this configuration. Client-side load balancing and failover works. I'd like to do it this way to hide infrastructure details from several application servers and to be able to add new nodes to rac without application servers' and clients' reconfiguration.

  • Help needed from ARD expert : Client  Status always VNC  ON

    Hello,
    Lorna has posted the following problem which I have also encountered and I could not solve it by re-installing ARD and upgrading to version 2.2:
    I administer a small office network (all 10.3.9) and I am running ARD 2.2 Admin on a G4 Powerbook, controlling a number of other laptops and some desktop machines on a mixed airport/wired ethernet network.
    On one G4 desktop I just re-installed OS 10.3.9 using the Apple Sotware Updater and since then I get the "VNC ON" status on that Mac. The other Macs work fine. I have deleted this machine from the ARD Master List, and I tre-defined it,but all in vain. It always shows a VNC server status.
    Obviously, the ARD admin does not "see" that the ARD client is active and I can only connect via VNC.
    Does anybody know what could be the cause of this problem ?
    Thank you so much

    Hello,
    I could locate the culprit in the meantime:
    I had a hunch that Netbarrier X, which is installed on my Powerbook could be causing the problem. Although I believed I had switched Netbarrier off ("No restrictions") for troubeshooting purposes the host entries in the so-called "stop list" remain active. And there I had one single entry : 127.0.0.1. Deleting my "own" host resolved the problem. I don't understand why the other wireless Macs still worked but I am not a network specialist.
    Netbarrier's illogical behaviour has caused me other troubles in the past (such as not being able to print because the cupsd app was in a stop-list!)
    I think that I shall now get rid of it, it's doing more harm than good.
    Thanks for responding.

  • Web server only accessible via intranet lan.. help!

    This is really making me nuts, and my brain is dry at the moment. I have reinstalled my Leopard Server twice, and I don't manage to solve this. It was working before upgrading to Leopard, so I don't know what the catch is.
    I set up a couple of websites via SA, as always. And I can only access them from our internal network (192.168.1.100, the server's IP) and from our fixed IP address (80.39.112.16) only when we are in the same lan. If you open 80.39.112.16 or the domain name www.i-publishingservices.com, DNS hosted at Network Solutions, it does not open.
    It is not a firewall issue (I have all web ports open and it does not work with the firewall deactivated either) and I don't think it is a router thing, as it was working before. The router has NAT translation on, and serving all ports to 192.168.1.100, the server's internal IP.
    Any ideas? Maybe it has to do with our internal DNS? We've never used the DNS service...Maybe there should be a www user in the Workgroup Manager? I am really lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Chema.
