Hostname problem

we have about 30 BW web reports being displayed in our portal ep5 sp 6. i have added a custom help context menu option and this should call a bsp using javascript.
the bsp url is formed:
url = "http://" + location.host + "/sap/bc/bsp/sap/z_bpa_help_app/help_docs.do";
i use exactly the same javascript code in all the reports but it doesn't work in four of them because the port is not being returned by location.host in these four instances.
any idea why this might be occurring or is there another way of retrieving the hostname and port??

I don't really know if the client name is part of the OSI model.
You could just setup up static ips for the machines and then disable dhcp on the lan side so each client will log the router's table under a single and consistent ip.
then you can monitor who's not in bed????

We have 10.6 clients attached to a 10.5.8 server using WGM to designate ComputerNames.
Previously, in 10.4/10.5, setting a ComputerName like (Maths-01) would give a hostname of maths-01.local (for example).
The behaviour of the hostname seems to have changed to use the owners name and ignored the Computer Name, so all our computers in labs will be named 'Local-Administrators-iMac.local'
We can work around this with a boot script: -
scutil --set HostName $(scutil --get ComputerName).local
But is this a bug? are others seeing the problem?

I have the same exact problem. I have an open case with apple and will provide this link. Thank you for the command because it looks like we will be doing that until Apple resolves this. Hopefully 10.6.3 will address this issue!

Fully Qualified Hostname problem with 9iAS install on WinNT

I am working within a corporate lan and installing 9ias to a Windows NT Sp 6 PC. I am using a fixed ip address and a fixed dns server. Although in the tcp/ip properties, dns tab I specify the hostname (shashi_build) and the domain (optus.com.au) and have an entry in the hosts and lmhosts files (192.168.218.238 shashi_build.optus.com.au shashi_build), the installer keeps coming up with an error message saying:
"Installation has detected that a fully qualified hostname has not been specified for this host. Oracle 91AS installation requires a default domain name to be specified for each host where it is installed. Please consult your operating system instructions for detials on assigning a default domain name. If you are not using a DNS server, then the file c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts must also include a line of the the form:
<IP_ADDRESS> <FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME< <ALIASES>
After making these changes, please reboot the host and restart the install."

The use dns for name resolution box is checked on the wins tab. Use lmhosts is checked too.
I even tried using DHCP, but to no effect.
I have ensured that the temp directory has sufficient space, page file is a minimum 1024 mb etc.
Can someone please help urgently? Thanks in anticipation.

This is a big deal. Please search the forum for "fully qualified host name" or "fully qualified domain name." You must get this right at install because you cannot make any changes later.
I made several posts relating to this issue in detail ca. Jan. 2003.

Serious Cert and hostname problem

Running Server 2012 with Exchange 2013 since 2012, all ok. SSL Cert ran out recently, bought new from Comodo. In the old UC Cert I had 4 names incleded: mail.domain.ch, autodiscover.domain.ch, hostname.domain.ch and the hostname alone. Comodo (and probably
other Certs) do no longer accept single hostnames in Certs so I omitted that. Now login to EMC is no longer possible and Outlook can no longer connect. EMS works but obviously with limited command set. Tried
Set-ClientAccessServer command. It is not recognized as are others. There are some commands working with "get-excommand" but not those needed to configure FQDN instead of hostname to access the Server. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Local hostname problem

Message on my screen "This computer's local hostname 'xx.local' is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to 'xx-2.local'" Should i be worried?

Sometimes this message means that you have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
Sometimes it happens because a device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
A third-party wireless router that has incompatible settings or firmware may be the cause. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.
Rename the computer in the Sharing preference pane.

Change hostname: Problems with Oracles "chgip" script

During "OracleAS_1\chgip\scripts\chgiphost.bat" script run I am asked:
"Enter fully qualified hostname (hostname.domainname) of destination"
What should I enter in detail to be independent from DHCP IP assignments?
If I enter e.g.
localhost.default
or
127.0.0.1.default
or
localhost
or
soa.127.0.0.1
the script tells me either
"Destination Hostname does not correspond to a valid host"
or
"Invalid hostname"
So what else can/should I enter?

DNS/Hostname problem

Hello,
Config:
Server name: app1.testcorp.local
Network binding order set to Public Int. first.
1 Public Interface 192.168.1.10/24 (DNS configured)
1 Untrusted Interface 10.0.0.10/24 (No dns configured, no default gw)
When i ping from the server itself (app1) and try "ping app1" i get app1.testcorp.local (10.0.0.10) were i expect it to return (192.168.1.10)
How can i change this so i get 192.168.1.10 instead of 10.0.0.10

Hi René,
When you perform a ping that uses a name instead of an IP address, the name has to be resolved to an IP address.
If the name is that of the server, the IP address is returned as an address from the network adapter that is at the top or bottom of the network bindings order.
This usually will be the last network adapter that was installed, and this may not be the interface that you expect to be used. Therefore, the ping command returns an incorrect IP address.
To resolve this issue, we have two options:
Change the binding order.
Change the hosts file.

How can i get rid of the "local" hostname sufix?

i am installing Sun Grid Engine on 4 macpros, but this hostname problem is making the progress a headache.
the cluster tries to resolve hostnames without the "local" sufix, and t fails.
how can i completely remove the "local" suffix on my hostname??
i have tried byt no sucess, this is what i did
at the moment if i type "hostname" i get this
mac-pro-3.local
so i modified /etc/hosts and added a line
myNetworkIP mac-pro-3.local mac-pro-3
it works but only for the same machine, other macs cannot ping or resolve "mac-pro-3".
i dont know what option is there available.
macs are with Leopard 10.5.6
any ideas?

i found another solution, and now i dont have the need to remove the "local" suffix
i edited the /etc/hosts file and added what the computer was trying to resolve from the server, with an alias.

Hostname for Mac OS X Server

Hi,
I have a Mac OS X server 10.5 Leopard and I've installed it on my mac mini.
After installing i tried to go to system settings but it prompted me for my hostname, user name and password. I wasnt sure what hostname to enter though i have my user name and password with me.
I'm setting it up for my friend's office and he doesnt have any domain name attached to it. I googled hostname for mac os x server but they said i need to have a fully qualified domain name.
Can i ignore this hostname problem? Cause its just a home business my friend is running and he just need his ical server up and thats it.

To strengthen Camelot's comments here, most everything in a modern network is dependent on the host name and on the associated DNS. Proper DNS (or proper static definitions) are a prerequisite; if the host name and the DNS or the static hosts pieces aren't configured and operating correctly, then you'll be chasing all sorts of problems. The host and DNS pieces are the foundation of network security, and most everything on a network these days eventually involves network security, hence...

Linux AS4+oracle9i+weblogic815/816+JDK:Sun JDK 1.4 JVM：-Xms1024m -Xmx1024m

架构：集群（通过proxy做代理分发软集群）
AdminServer、proxyServer、server1、server2、server3、server4、server5、server6........
问题描述：
除AdminServer外的所有服务平时均运行正常，从来不会出现挂死，内存泄漏问题。
WebLogic控制台经常出现无故挂死现象，分析过挂死的现象，CPU、内存、IO均正常，通过升级JDK也无法解决，有时候重启AdminServer后，进去随便点几点控制台就挂在哪里不动了。请问这种现象是不是有什么补丁处理。（前提：控制台放在AdminServer上，这个只负责控制台管理，不运行应用）

When you are using a wrong hostname or ipaddress or a wrong port number.It is a perfect guess. May be a IP or hostname problem. I am configuring DataGuard on 2 PC. I installed a DB10g on PC A and want to configure a physical standby database on the PC B. Unfortunately, Both hostnames of PC A and PC B are same(both are "localhost.localdomain". Then I change a new hostname for the PC A(the primary database is on it), and the listener cannot connect to the EM console.
Why didn't you rediscover the listener.How to rediscover it.
Or do you think you will ever get valid respoinses when you keep posting a lot of non-informative junk boiling down to 'Help it doesn't work, and I can't be bothered to investigate the problem, and you need to torture me to get information out of me'?sorry.

Anki cannot download shared plugins [Solved]

I installed anki 1.2.9-2 recently, and I have been unable to download any shared plugins or decks. Below are the errors that I receive.
Has anyone had this issue and was able to resolve it or has any suggestions?

Whenever I try to sync my Decks with AnkiWeb, I receive the following error:

It turns out the the problem was DNS issue. I'm guessing that the DNS through my ISP did not have the hostnames that are used by anki to download plugins.
The solution was to append the following nameservers to /etc/resolv.conf:
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220
These are OpenDNS name servers.

I am completely up to date now, however, I still experience the same issue. In terms of it being a network problem, I have been experiencing another issue that may be related to this one. Whenever I try to ssh into one of my campus's servers, I am unable to connect through the hostname. I always receive the following message:
Could not resolve hostname .... Name or service not known
However, if I ssh using the server's ip address, I am able to connect. The same thing occurs whenever I specify the hostname of the campus gateway to vpn. If I give the ip address, it works. Otherwise, same error. When I do establish a vpn tunnel, I am able to ssh through the hostname.
I thought it might have something to do with ipv6, since I prevent it from autoloading. But I tried enabling the module with modprobe and I still have the same issue, so I'm thinking maybe the anki problem and the hostname problem are dns issues.
I don't know much about networking, so I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions?

Putting Identity Server behind firewall

Hi All,
I have an application running on SunONE app server 7 with agent in order to control authentication and authorization. I would like to put the identity server behind firewall. However, everytime when the agent redirect to identity server to perform login, it redirects directly which user can't access the login page. May I know how can I put the Identity server behind firewall? Must I use web proxy server instead? Any other solution? Thx a lot.

Hi, this is Tobey again. I have installed Identity Server 6.1 and a web proxy server 3.6 in front of the Identity Server.
The web proxy server succeed in reverse proxying all usual applications. However, when I try accessing amconsole through proxy server, the console service always re-direct me to Identity Server host directly. And my client browser is not allow to resolve that hostname.
What I have configured is setting regular and reverse url mapping in Web proxy server. In Identity server, I have set the fqdn mapping, dns alias, adding one more in server list and cookies domain.
Any one had experience on putting Identity Server behind firewall? How to solve the hostname problem that redirected by Identity Server service? Thx a lot.

How do I fix the problem with PTD rejecting iCloud email because the hostname can't be resolved (17.110.78.42)?

I get this message: "Client host rejected: cannot find your reverse hostname. [17.110.78.42]". The recipient domain is ptd.net and this is coming from an iCloud account. PTD refused to help. Is this an Apple problem? When can this be fixed? I have an email account that is rejected by half of the recipients!

Thanks, but I've been on the phone with AppleCare US (where I am and live) and AppleCare UK. They continue bouncing me back and forth without helping resolve the problem.
Perhaps someones knows how to further escalate the issue at Apple?

Problem with hostname Solaris 10

I am a complete newbie to Solaris. I purchased a Sun machine with 9 on and upgraded it to 10 without many problems apart from not geting the network to work.
On the install of 10 I was asked for domain name and hostname.
Following much differing and I would say incorrect advice on setting up network on 10 gathered from these pages I used the sys-unconfig to try to get the network to work each time with no problem.
Following advice to create 3 files dhcp.le0, hostname.le0 the last one I forget I rebooted. On reboot there were a number of problems and nothing loaded I removed the files rebooted and then did a sys-unconfig.
Eventually I got the network to work but I had lost the hostname even with placing it is hostname.hme0 and rebooting. I sys-unconfig a number of times but was not asked for the hostname as on previous occasions.
I then went for a total new fresh install but I was not asked for a hostname on trying to use sys-unconfig to install the hostname it somehow on reboot would not load the screen.
I am as typing this on another fresh install of 10 but I have not been asked to give the hostname or domain. This implies when the new install runs it will be as "unknown".
Can anyone point me in the right direction to getting a hostname now that I have cracked the network and Samba.
It appears in my very limited knowledge of Sun and Solaris that the hostname and domaon name are not part of a new software install but are read by the software from somewhere else otherwise why should it miss out on these two crutial pieces of information.

Put the desired hostname in the /etc/nodename file, then edit the /etc/default/dhcpagent file and remove "12" from the PARAM_REQUEST_LIST which can be found in the bottom of the list.
The /etc/nodename controls the hostname of the machine, the dhcpagent file instructs your DHCP agent what information it should get from the DHCP server, 12 indicates that it should ask for a hostname, if no hostname is found it will use "unknown".
Personally i'm not much in favour of sys-unconfig, but ive also noticed that a lot of people here likes it..

OK, then pls follow below steps;
- Go to step 'Create Users' in solman_setup System Preparation scenario and make sure the user SM_INTERN_WS has a green status. Use the 'Test Login' button to make sure the user is not locked and has correct credentials maintained in solman_setup
- Immediately after checking the user status, navigate to Configure Connectivity->Enable Web Services and execute again the 'Create Logical Ports' automatic activity, in order to propagate the correct credentials to the Logical Port definitions.
- If the above operation is not successful, repeat the two steps above, providing a different user Id in 'Create Users' step, eg SM_INTERN_W1. This will prevent situations where the user gets locked by Logical Ports using an obsolete password.
