Hotplugging: no kbd layout switching any more

Hi,
After the most recent upgrade (xf86-input-evdev, xf86-input-keyboard, etc.) no keyboard layout switching for me any more.
Present configuration:
(1) KDEmod 3, Keyboard Layout: Evdev-managed keyboard (as it used to be)
(2) No fdi files updated, either in /etc/hal/fdi or in /usr/share/hal/fdi
(3) /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi:

CapsLock works as usual, layout icon toggles as it's supposed to, but I'm having only English characters, regardless.
Any ideas?

Here they discuss the same thing.
This, too, sounds familiar, though the perceived cause is different.
rocknice, do you mean that the problem is recognized, the but reports filed, etc.?

  • In iTunes, how do I switch to an Ipod nano from and old ipod that doesn't work any more

in iTunes on your computer, how do I switch to an Ipod nano from and old ipod that doesn't work any more?  It has all the folders and songs I had on my old ipod, but does not recognize my ipod nano and cannot sync with it?

    Hi bob12345S,
If your iPod nano does not appear in iTunes when connected to your computer, you may want to troubleshoot using the steps on this page -
Apple - Support - iPod nano - iTunes Troubleshooting Assistant

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • WHY CAN'T I COMBINE FILES WITH RIGHT CLICK ANY MORE? HOW LONG AM I EXPECTED TO WAIT BEFORE SWITCHING TO A COMPETITOR'S PRODUCT?

I used to be able to select a set of documents in the Windows file explorer, right click these highlighted documents, and then right click-->Combine Files in Acrobat.
This used to open the combine files page in Acrobat and I would be able to combine the files directly.
Now when I use right click to combine files in Acrobat it simply opens Acrobat. If I want to combine the files I have to go to Acrobat, select the option, and then navigate to the files.
This similar issue exists for edited PDFs. I used to be able to right click a document and select "Edit with Adobe Acrobat" and the document would open when this option was selected. Now if this option is selected it opens Adobe Acrobat and I have to navigate to any files I want to use.
How do I use the right click features in the file explorer? These features don't work any more and they used to.

    Hi
Could you please tell which Acrobat version you are using and also the OS- Windows 7 or 8.1?
Also can you please tell whether you are getting Acrobat specific combine and Edit options in the right - click menu?
If yes, are they working or nothing happens on clicking them?
If possible, can you also try to restart your system and then try Right-click -> combine files in Acrobat?
    Thanks
    Tanvi

  • Keyboard Shortcuts for "Sleep", "Restart", "Shutdown" and switching the screen off don't work any more

    Hi,
I am running OX Yosemite Version 10.10.2 on an iMac 27 inches.
A couple of days ago a realized that a few keyboard shortcuts that I use a lot didn't work any more. They are:
    Sleep --> cmd + alt + eject
Turn of the screen --> **** + ctrl + eject
    Shutdown --> ctrl + alt + cmd + eject
    Does anybody know why?
Thank you so much in advance.
    Regards.

Does single-user mode work? Command-S at startup. Since that doesn't rely on anything but the keyboard, this might be a good test.
Have the other keyboard shortcuts ever worked on your computer, or did they recently cease to work?

  • Can't update apps bought from different stores efficiently any more, why?

After the latest update of iTune 11, I found I can not any more update iOS Apps efficiently in iTunes. I have three different iTunes Store accounts for different country stores and they are all active.
Before this iTunes update, I had been able to update apps by store - which means when I am in a certain App Store, iTunes shows all apps need-to-update in that store only. I could press 'Update All" and sign-off so as to switch to another App Store while the updating running by itselfs and do the same in another store. This has been quite an effective way when there are more than 10 apps to update.
The new iTunes has a category "Update", which is good. However, it doesn't further categorize the apps by Store. The problem now is that I had 300+ updates waiting there and they belong to 3 stores. When I start updating with Store A, I can't sign-off (so no way to switch) until the apps update in Store A completes. Then it comes another big problem - when app No 22 to 26 were bought through Store B, 27 to 30 from Store A, 30-31 from Store C, etc, the udpate will stop when app 22 is detected and iTunes pops up a dialogue saying something like "this app was from another store, you have to switch to that store". If I don't switch, the udpate will not continue; if I do, it will stop the updating of app 20 and 21 (if haven't finished by then).
Once I switch, the same thing will repeat when app 27 is detected, then app 30, then app 32, then... then it is a total catastrophy.
On iOS devices, I don't have to switch to update apps from multiple stores, except when some apps were for certain store only, such as China Sore. Even the latter, I don't have to switch "BACK and FORTH".
Why can't iTunes on Mac do the same? At least, iTunes should continue to allow app update by Store and allow updating continues when the accounts is signed off.
Has anyone had the same problem? Is this a bug or not?

Just updated to iTunes 11 two days ago and am also seeing
the same behavior.  The only way to find out if there is an update
to an app in iTunes is to enable the side bar, click on Apps.  Then in
the lower right corner, click check for updates.  If you are already logged
into the iTunes Store, I believe it will show the updates automatically.
But yes, it should show that an update is available in the store, as it used to.

  • Disappointing support - will not buy creative products any more

    Hi,
just wanted to share my experience with creative support. Just to keep in mind for those planning to buy creative products...
I bought a Zen X-fi 2 last summer. Mainly the features of sleep-timer and alarm using any mp3 file have been my selection criteria for this player, because I was interested in automatic switch-off in the evening and a wakeup in the morning by some nice music instead of a standard beeping of my alarm clock.
Unfortunately, I am really disappointed now by creative. As I already reported here (<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/Zen-X-Fi-2-Problems-with-snooze-function/m-p/56477)"]http://forums.creative.com/t5/MP3-Players/Zen-X-Fi-2-Problems-with-snooze-function/m-p/56477)[/url] I experience some bugs with the above mentioned features. Let me summarize:
    - interestingly, the alarm will repeat 3 times AT MAXIMUM, i.e., even if you choose "snooze" after the 3rd repeat, it will not repeat again.
--> official (!!) statement of creative: "it is the intended behavior of the player, which shall avoid discharging of the player in alarm mode."
?Well I cannot understand this, because it should be a simple "if" statement in the firmware, to check whether the user pushed the screen or not. Of course I understand, that if the user does not do anything after the alarm went off, the repeating signal of alarm should be restricted in repetition to avoid the complete discharging. But as soon as user interaction takes place, the player should behave like it is expected from the labeling on the screen, right?
?- One reproducible bug: In general the player repeats the alarm 3 times at maximum also, if you just hit the touch-screen once, but do not choose "snooze" or "turn off alarm" (in addition, the buttons on the screen are too tiny in my opinion - just try to push the right button if you're sleepy in the morning...). BUT: at certain initial times of alarm (e.g. 6:40, 7:45 or 6:50, 7:50, 7:5), if you just hit the touchscreen once without further selections, the alarm does not repeat 3 times, but only once or twice AND it will repeat one or two hours later.
?--> Very interesting behavior. The only reaction of creative support: "we forwarded the feedback to our developers, but we cannot tell you if your recommendations will be implemented into the next firmware."
?Why are bugs like that treated as "feedback" or "recommendation" that apparently have not to be resolved?
?- finally, if you use the sleep-timer and your player powers-off in the evening (in the middle of a song, if you listen to music), then the player will continue the song as soon as you turned off the alarm the next morning. This is annoying, because you have to go to "Music -> now playing" and stop it also. A behavior I would not expect, do you agree?
I waited for a corrected firmware for half a year now - nothing changed, only standard replies of the support, no offers how to solve these problems.
Perhaps you now understand why I cannot recommend creative any more and definitely will not buy or recommend any creative product in the future.
Originally, I thought that companies are interested in satisfied customers - seems like creative is going a different way...
Keep this in mind before you finally choose creative...
    regards
    pacman2

    Hi Susan WW,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your issue. If you are saying that you are having issues connecting to the iTunes Store directly from your iPad, for example to purchase music, you may find the troubleshooting in the following article helpful:

  • Can not start J2EE any more

    Hi expert,
my J2EE engined worked well in hte past weeks. However since yesterday it can't be started any more. I noticed that I didn't have much space left on C drive (was around 700 MB) and DB files were written to my F drive. Any way, I cleaned space in C, but it didn't help.  I also noticed that I don't have the JVMX.jar in the required folder, but my colleague doesn't have it either while he has no issue starting the J2EE engine.
Can you please help on this?

  • IPad alignment issues - any more suggestions in late 2013?

    Hi,
I realise that this question has been asked before, but many of the replies are from over a year ago, so I am wondering if anyone can shed anymore light on it?
I have a site I designed in Muse that displays justified left on an ipad and iphone, rather then centered.
I have gone through the pages and there seems to be no objects that are sitting to the right of the page which would cause the problem.
I tried adding 'overflow:hidden' in the css file, and while this fixed the issue on the ipad, it stopped the full browser width images and footer diaplying at full width.
Any more ideas on how to fix this?  Is it possible to add 'overflow;hidden' to the css file AND keep the footer and full browser with images displaying at full width?
The site in question is http://www.wearebrightlight.com
    Many thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    Ben

Lol, sorry about that. It seems we exchanged typos. Yours in the original URL and mine in neglecting to type "not" a Muse generate site.
Now that I'm looking at the correct (very nice) site, a couple notes.
First, when scroll effects are used, the pinch to zoom functionality on mobile devices is disabled. Due to idiosyncrasies of mobile browsers we have yet to find a way to have scroll effects work correctly/reliably across mobile browsers when combined with pinch zooming. (If you find sites with scroll effects that have pinch zooming enable, please point them out to us. Perhaps we'll be able to determine a way to enabling pinch zooming with scroll effects in the future.)
Second, when a site is loaded into a mobile browser the browser will zoom the view such that the left edge of the page is at the left edge of the device and the right edge of the content (which is the page width if everything is within the page width) is at the right edge of the device.
From the appearance of your site in a mobile browser I expect the content in the Work section of the page is flush with the left edge of the page and that somewhere on the page there's content that extends to roughly ruler location 1333, since the browser appears to be zooming out so roughly 1333 pixels are scaled down to fit in the width of the device.
If this doesn't appear to match what things looks like in Design view, a screenshot of the Work section in design view with guides displayed and everything unlocked, visible and selected may help us better understand the layout.
If this does match the current appearance, then moving everything to the right on the page would provide a left "margin" and verifying no content is outside the right of the page will cause the area between zero and the right page edge to scale to fill mobile browsers.

  • Any more updates to 10.4 after 10.5 is out?

Once Mac OS X 10.5 comes out, will we users that continue to use 10.4 get any more software updates? I'm a recent switcher and i'm used to being able to use, say later versions of internet explorer etc. on earlier versions of Windows; will Safari 3.0 be available as an update for 10.5? I understand if things like the calculator widget or general little apps aren't updatable but surely something as omnipresent as the web browser should be?

The last major OS update for Jaguar was 10.2.8.
    With Panther, it was 10.3.9.
This does not take into account later Security updates.
With Tiger, the current version is 10.4.7 so there are only 2 numbers remaining and only Apple can answer this question which can't and won't be answered here.
You cannot use an Apple software version released for 10.5 on an earlier OS X version with the exception of the iLife and iWork suites.
You can't use the Tiger Mail.app version with Jaguar or Panther and I'm sure the same will hold true for basic/included Apple 10.5 applications.

  • ALV to Excel export - rowmarks not considered any more?

    Dear experts,
as you know there are at least 3 different ways to export ALV-Data to MS EXCEL:
    1. Switching the ALV View to Excel Inplace
    2. Export to Excel
    3. Export to local file -> Excel (just download, no automatic opening of the file)
The last mentioned variant was up to now the only one that just downloaded the rows that were marked in the ALV.
The first two variants always transfer all the lines regardless which rows have been marked or not.
This was not only the case for the ALs in our own programs but also in standard programs as i.e. SE16/data browser.
This seems to have changed now, and nobody (here) knows due to what kind of changes this had happened.
Now the variant 3 also doesn't care any more about the row marks.
Unfortunetaly our customers want to be able to specify the lines/rows that are supposed to be exported to Excel.
Does anybody know what to do in order to get that functionality back again?
    Thanks in advance
    Andreas

Why not simply add an event with a button that does a selected row download...you could get the rows selected into your rows table in your event, get the corresponding rows from your internal table that drives the ALV output, put them into a download table (after a clear, in case it aready had been used by this user/session), and proceed to download that to the desktop.

  • Mail settings are not saved any more

    Hi,
after my mailbox structure has crashed, I tried to reset Mail as explained in this answer: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22302114#22302114
After restarting Mail all settings were deleted (as expected) and I set up my accounts and settings again. Then I recognized that the settings are not saved any more. I tried some times but Mail didn't save the settings.
I hope there is a chance to fix this problem.
    Thanks for help.

Thanks for linked document but I find it funny and someone rude that the article assumes that EVERYONE knows the lingo used - i.e. Profile Folder is in "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\" . Where the hell is that???? Jesus, it's much easier to switch to Chrome.

  • When choosing protection, no IP address any more although password entered

    Hi,
    I have the following problem:
I configured my Airport Express Base Station to use WAP2 with an appropriate password and to act as a pure Etherenet-WLAN bridge without NAT.
Unless I use any kind of encryption like WEP, WAP or WAP2, everything works smoothly: I get IP addresses from our DHCP server in the LAN, can configure the base station etc.
But if I switch on any kind of encryption, no connectivity any more. Although I am successfully connected to the base station, I do not receive an IP address. I can see the base station in the admin tool. It asks me to enter the password to configure the base station but then there pops up an error: Could nor read configuration of the base station.
I then always have to reset the base station and reconfigure it, to get access to it.
This is a brand new Airport Express base station and it is working perfectly but with no encryption at all.
    What could I do?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

After plugging off the power it was working.

  • I just made the update with "Mountain Lion" on may MAC. Now I am not able to open all my Word-Documents any more. What can I do?

I just made the update with "Mountain Lion" on my MAC. Now I´m not able to open all my (old) Word-Documents any more. What can I do?

Office 2004 Applications Won't Work in Lion
You must have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite and will not work in Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • FF is not saving my passwords/websites any more.

All of my websites with username & passwords in the Tools>options>security disappeared and none are being saved. The popup box asking if I want FF to save passwords does not show up any more. What do I need to do to get this feature working again? Is it possible to get the ones that disappeared to show up again?
