HotSync Madness!!!

I Have a Palm Centro, and it wanted to HotSync all on its own. Of coarse I hit cancel many a time, after time, after time... And it eventually froze my phone up! I did a soft reset atleast 3-5 times before it plain wouldn't cut back on anymore, so I've been using my old phone and that just so happened to fall into OBX the other day, so I'm trying to get this one working again. I put it on the charger and the screen lit up, so I clicked around on it until I decided I should set it down before I mess it up again. I set it down and once the screen went back it automatically lit up again with the lock screen up. I clicked the 'palm' key and it froze up, so I took it off the charger and did another soft reset, and now it wont come back on at all. Its been on the charger for two days with a red light! Is there anything I can do to get my Centro back?! PLEASE HELP!!!

Centros that suddenly display these symptoms (spontaneous HotSyncing) have usually become wet at the bottom HotSync port.  I'm suspecting this is what happened to yours, as it now won't turn back on.
Turning a phone on that is wet, is a bad thing to do!  First thing to do if a phone gets wet is to pull the battery, and let it dry out.

  • USB Hotsync needs 32-bit hardware or software? or both?

I made the mistake of buying a new computer without knowing I needed 32-bit to do a USB Hotsync.  My new computer is 64-bit hardware. However, I got a 3-year service package from HP and they've offered to send me a 32-bit Windows XP OS installation disk if I want it. They said it will work, you can install a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit computer.
Their question is, and my question for you is, do I need a 32-bit HARDWARE to do the USB sync, or will the 32-bit OPERATING SYSTEM (software) on a 64-bit computer do the trick? Does anyone know? Palm wouldn't tell me ("unsupported device"), and I can't find it anywhere.
I want to avoid doing the bluetooth thing if possible, since reading that people have problems syncing docs-to-go with bluetooth and I don't want to have to buy a bluetooth device and have to try to figure out which one will work with my particular set up. I'm pretty addicted to docs-to-go.
BTW I have a Zire 72 that I can't live without (poor memory/organizational skills) and my new computer is an HP EliteBook 8440p currently running 64-bit Windows 7.
I'd rather avoid installing a new OS (and reinstalling everything else) if it's not going to help.
Thanks to anyone who has an idea, suggestion, or experience to share.

I just switched from a Zire M150 to the TX and I am also getting this message.  When I was using the Zire, I saw the pocketmirror program and files on my pc but now that I made the install for the TX, all of that info is gone. I looked on the install cd that came with the TX and did not find any pocketmirror files or drivers.  Is this a left over from the software that was used to hotsync the Zire?
If so, is there a way to stop the message.
On the other hand, if the .dll file is needed, I would appreciate other tips as the TX info does not have any pocketmirror  references.

  • T|X Windows Hotsync

Spoke to soon. I can't get my T|X to sync wirelessly. On the Hotsync screen on the T|X I chose look for PC on my network. It found my desktop and the wireless sync work. Okay lets try that again. No luck. Tried another "Look for PC on my network" this time and every time since, it can't find my desktop. I checked he desktop name. Even re-entered it and did another Hard Reset (held Power button down while hitting reset on back). Still can't find my desktop. Disabled my firewall, no change. Checked my Hotsync seetings on desktop, right IP address and network check. I should mention that I did a cable sync after the hard reset. It worked fine and provided my T|X with the address. I am getting an error message occasionally which is new and may help. Its titled "SMARTHEAP LIBRARY" and in the box it states "Mem_bad_Pointer" with the ok and cancel buttons.
    Ideas?

You set the static IP addresses in your router's internal settings, correct?
Have you made an exception in your Firewall for HotSync.exe?
Here's my text file I always use for Wifi HotSync.  Sounds like you've covered all bases, but read through it for the heck of it.
    Wifi HotSync with a TX
    1. On your PC, locate the HotSync Manager (little HotSync icon in the lower right tool tray on a Winbox). Click on it and check off "Network", then click again and select Setup.
    2. Pick the Network tab up top in the window that opens, and find your HotSync name in the list.  Make sure it's checked.
    3. Tap the TCP/IP button, and look at the IP address listed for "Primary PC Address". Write it down.
    4. Turn on Wifi on your Palm and connect to your router.
    5. On your Palm, select the HotSync program and tap the word "Network" above the HotSync icon in the middle of the screen.  Below it, enter the IP address you wrote down in step 3. (Include the periods!).  NOTE: If you don't see the "Select PC" entry under the button, open your pull-down menu and tap "Modem Sync Prefs".  Change it to "Network".
    6. Tap the big HotSync icon above the IP address, and hold on!  Your PC should sound the HotSync signal and begin a very rapid HotSync!
    7. If you're holding on, and nothing happens try a wired HotSync, then try the Wifi HotSync again.  Sometimes, information has to transfer from your PC after you check off the Network option.  Also, be sure to watch for any Firewall activity asking you about "HotSync.exe is trying to access your hard drive" etc.  You may need to set a rule to allow it.

  • Centro won't HotSync using Bluetooth & Windows 7

I have been using Bluetooth to HotSync my Palm Centro (Verizon) with my Windows 7 (HP) computer.  The last successful HotSync was 2 weeks ago (9/20).  No hardware or software changes have been made to the computer since then.  When I tried to HotSync today I got this message:
    HotSync Problem
Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.
I tried rebooting the computer, but that didn't help.
Can anybody help me?  In very simple basic words (pretend you're talking to your grandmother) please.
    Thanks,
    Nancy
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

I also get this message.  I thought it was because my wife and I each have a Palm Centro and it meant that the HotSync was still connected to the other person's phone.  But If you are only using one phone, and still get this message, I am now stumped as to why the error occurs.

  • Hotsync will not sync on Windows XP pro on domain

First off let me put a little information about the setup of this computer. It is on a domain and the C:/ drive is locked down so that the person logging in to the machine cannot add/remove things. I came to the machine to get a palm powered symbol SPT1800 device installed so that the user can do inventory on it with a program from follet called in-hand. All that this program does is scan barcodes and then you hotsync it with the PC and it will create a text file in the designated location.
Here is where the problem lies:
I have made the destination folder, and the palmone folder writeable for everyone that uses the computer, so it should not have any issues throwing the text file in the right place when I hotsync it. When I am logged in as the domain administrator on that machine, when I hotsync it does what it's supposed to do, the text file for the scanned barcodes is created, and anything else that was on the handheld is moved over (i.e. calander, notes, contacts, etc). When I login as the user on the machine and hit the hotsync button it states that it's hotsyncing, and it goes through it's process, and then says hotsync is complete but nothing ever comes through; such as the textfile it should create nor the contacts, calandar, or notes.
So I know that it is working but I need to figure out what needs to change so that the user can do this. Perhaps there is a folder or some files that need write access? maybe something in the registry needs write access? I am at a loss and have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out.
We are using Palm Desktop version 4.1.4 and the Hotsync is version 4.0.4
I hope someone can shed some light on this because the user needs this to work for inventory purposes.

Try this, Locate the palm folder. (C:/Program files/Palm or Palmone/*hotsync username*
Copy the contents of your hotsync username then delete it from the original location. (Repeat for each user you have) Then try to open the Palm desktop. It should prompt you to create a new username.

  • Palm Hotsync conflicts with XP SP3?

My Palm Hotsync was working perfectly fine...until I updated my Windows XP with Service Pack 3.  Now when I try to sync, I get an error message saying that the connection could not be made.  Occassionally, if I re-download the Hotsync, that will let me sync once, but then I run into the same problem.  I'm loathe to uninstall SP3 since that has a lot of security stuff in it, but nothing else seems to be working...
...I've done the soft reset and the system reset, and followed every step in the Palm help section.  I've also chatted with a Palm rep who couldn't seem to find the problem either.
So, has anyone else had this problem?  Was it SP3 or something else?  How did you resolve it?
    Thanks...

I have a Treo 680 and I spent about an hour on the phone at my computer with tech support from Palm trying to resolve this and when it
was all said and done I still can not get my calendar and contacts to sync. Tech support told me that I have a corrupted database and that
there is problems with the SP3 and the hot sync manager. They told me they were working on it but couldn't give a timeframe for when
it would be fixed. I can not remove SP3 from my computer. I have enough issues already with security without adding to it. Palm needs
to fix this problem right away.

  • Hotsync related 'popup' document following upgrade of Macintosh HD

    Hi,
I've been using 'Palm Desktop' v4.2.1 for several years on my G5 Dual 2Ghz (currently OS 10.4.11) to sync data with my PDA. I've just upgraded my main 160Gb HD to a 750Gb and successfully cloned the original drive. System and apps are all working perfectly but every time I boot up my Mac or log in, a Pkginfo document automatically opens up in TextEdit and appears on the desktop, containing only the text: GldcGld1.
I've traced the origin of the document as being at the end of the following path:-
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/Notifiers/Conflict Notifier/Contents/Pkginfo
Although the Pkginfo document is contained within 'Conflict Notifier' it does not appear to be an error message, so why does it 'pop up' ?
I'm having no apparent problems with the Palm software or with syncing my PDA, but the consistent popping up of this document is quite annoying as well as being a little worrying.
Any ideas anyone? - thanks for listening!
    Post relates to: Tungsten T3

Just found the answer to my problem.....
Somehow, the Pkginfo document had found it's way into the 'Login Items' list (Accounts Preferences) which caused it to open every time I logged in.
After deleting it from the list, all is running smoothly again. I've never made any changes to 'Login Items' before so I've no idea how it found it's way there.
    Sorry to trouble you all.

  • Unable to find Hotsync

Me again.  I've recently upgraded computers (still running XP Professional), and using Laplink's PDASync 4 to synchronize my Palm m515 with Lotus Notes.  Prior to the upgrade, I had been using both successfully.  Now, when I try to do a full synchronization with PDASync, I get the following message:  "Unable to find HotSync.  Please restart HotSync.  If this doesn't work, please reinstall HotSync and try again."
I have everything in (as far as I can tell) an identical confguration with the old computer.  All applications are present and running.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Palm Desktop and PDASync. I have even foudn an update for HotSync and installed it.  However, I have not been able to run PDASync with HotSync.
I have communicated with Laplink's service and their best answer is that it sounds like it might be a security issue with Palm, but that makes little sense to me, when I amusing an identical setup and have not made any changes to the pda, but only the computer.
Can anyone here point me in a direction that can resolve this?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
I have exactly the same problem. I think it can me caused by the changes in some of the last security patches for windows xp pro that were applied in last days/weeks. I am also working in the corporate environment. I cannot influence what patches are being installed. I have found on the Internet hint regarding the right during installation and how is Palm Desktop and PAD sync installed. If it is installed by user administrator that is using the software or if it is installed by IT administrator and then used by another user, who no administration rights has. But I cannot prove it as I cannot get administrator rights to my PC. Maybe it can help.

  • Successful Hotsync - Palm T3 Windows 7 64-bit by Bluetooth

After a lot of frustration and some blue screens trying other methods, it worked for me...
    HP p6675uk - 2 x dual core - Windows 7 64-bit
Downloaded Palm Desktop 6.2 and installed it, but skipped the hotsync.
Installed a Buetooth dongle - I used a dirt cheap one - the Dynamode BT-USB-M2
It did not install properly, but I ran the Troubleshooter and Windows found the updated driver (CSR is the maker)
Then the dongle kept dropping out - a yellow exclamation mark on the icon in the Devices and Printers window.
Then I ran services.msc (Start - Run - type in "services.msc" - OK) to discover that the bluetooth service wasn't running! Enabled it in automatic mode.
Opened Bluetooth properties and made the dongle discoverable.
On the Palm, started Bluetooth and made a new trusted connection to the PC.
On the Palm set Hotsync to use the newly created Bluetooth conection
On the PC opened HotSync Settings → Connections to use Bluetooth only
    Start Hotsync from the Palm.
    That worked!
Tried again, got the “can't connect being used by another program" error message on the Palm.
Looked in Devices and Printers, the yellow exclamtion mark was back. Experimented and found an answer that works reliably for me.
    Now I have a routine:
After Windows start-up, when I want to run Hotsync, open Devices and Printers. Bluetooth has the exclamation mark.
    * Open the Device Manager. Open the Bluetooth device. In the Driver tab, disable the driver, click OK. Go back in, enable the driver, click OK. Look again at the Devices and Printers window:
    1. Exclamation mark gone. Switch on Palm, Palm appears in Devices screen, run Hotsync. Goto End
    2. Exclamation mark there. Remove dongle, replace dongle
2a. Exclamation mark gone, goto 1
2b. Exclamation mark returns, goto * above
End - It worked, I'm happy.

This is an error related to programs that have been installed on your TX that do not belong there.
Programs like My Palm, or My Treo were not made for the TX, and cause this error.
See if you have either of these installed and if so, Delete them.

  • Palm Z22 hotsync with windows 7 64 bit-using IRD

I have been trying to hotsync my input from Palm Z22 into my new OS Windows 7 64 bit using first the USB-unsuccessful.
I purchased an IRD to try and hotsync onto OS windows 7 64 bit- but also have failed.  Any advise?

I do not know if it will work. In his post at brighthand that he made the Aceeca driver available to the palm community Alex stated that it should work with many Palm devices that were os 4 or 5. You are using an older version of the palm desktop and one of the older os 4 devices. I do know of people with the palm m505 and m515 using the Aceeca driver with success, but they were using a newer version of the palm desktop. I believe most were using the 4.1.4 palm desktop version. I do not know if experimenting with a newer desktop version will help either.

My calendar and address book havn't been 'HotSyncing' for a couple of weeks now. Have re-loaded software, done a hard re-set etc. When I do a Hot Sync, both say it has worked OK, but it hasn,t.Info doesn't pass between PC and PDA. However, I've just discovered something interesting that may be the problem, but I can't resolve it.
On my PC, I have (on left of palm desktop page) both Calendar and Date listed. Calender has info on it, date has no info. When I look at the Hot Sync applications section, calendar is not listed, but date book is. Hence, when I do a HotSync, the PC and PDA don't talk to one another!
Same with address etc. On PC I have both address and contacts listed. On HotSync Applications, address is listed, but not contacts. The PDA has contacts listed, but not address.
I have Tungstan E2, Palm 6.2.2, HS manager 7.0.2, Windows XP. Hot Symch with Palm OS, not Outlook

  • Centro Hotsync problem: two Date Books, second never finishes syncing

I have a Centro. It worked fine syncing for many months using the USB cable. For some reason, now it won't synchronize. All the information in Palm Desktop on my computer disappeared -- I only have my calendar on the phone now. When I try to sync, the HotSync Progress box appears on my computer, and if I show the details, it gives me the following, where there are two Date Books and the second one never completes:
    Package Installer -- done
    Install -- done
    Install Service Templates -- done
    Install To Card -- done
    HotSync Exchange -- done
    Date Book -- done
    Date Book -- synchronizing
    Address Book
    Address Book
    To Do List
    To Do List
    Memo Pad
    Memo Pad
    Addit
    Media
As you can see, several items from Date Book on are doubled, and the second Date Book gets stuck in perpetual synchronizing.
I haven't found any answer for this in searching the forums. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop. I followed advice on Palm's troubleshooting page to rename my username on Palm Desktop and to delete my username from the phone. None of it made any difference.
    Thanks for your help.

try see if you can find any significant error message or codes.
also try to attempt syncing the 2nd centro and this time change the action of the datebook/calendar to handheld overwrites the desktop.
that if your desktop is good to be overwritten.
it is very unusual to behave this way where both of the centros have 2 different user ID's and both are syncing to palm desktop.

  • Calendar hotsync issue

Have two email accounts in Outlook that also send messages onto my phone. When I hotsync the calendar to my phone it's fine (going from personal folder onto phone) but when I make an appointment on my phone, at the top of the screen it gives me either email address but not the default option that links to the Calendar in Outlook so any appointments I put onto my phone don't hotsync. I can see a default option on the phone when i go into the Options screen but when making the appointment, the option is not available. Any suggestions?

Hello suematthews and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Sorry to hear you're experiencing synchronization issues with your BlackBerry and Outlook.
First of all, you can change your Default Calendar that makes the entries by going to Options>Advanced Options>Default Services or Options>Device>Advanced System Settings>Default Services (depending on your software version on your BlackBerry Curve 9300 smartphone). Where you see Calendar [CICAL] you can change this to the desired email account.
Once you have the desired default Calendar set, backup your data using BlackBerry Desktop Software. Since you have more than one calendar list, you will need to merge them to transfer the appointments made with the wrong email to the one you sync with.
Follow the steps in KB19240 How to merge multiple calendars into one calendar on the BlackBerry smartphone. Again, it is essential you back up your data as this will change the Calendar on your device.
Once the Calendars have been merged into the new default that you want to use, retry the sync.
Let me know how you make out.
    Thanks!
