i found this invisible folder ".Trashes" everywhere in my mac and also in my usb. how can i get rid of it?

The .DS_Store file is normal. It holds certain settings related to the folder it is found in. Removing these files is futile, as they will come back, as you have observed.
If you are seeing them on your Mac, that means you have changed settings so that your Mac is showing invisible files in the Finder. To reverse that, run the following command in the Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
This will hide them, and any other invisible files, from view.
If you are seeing them on a Windows machine, just ignore them. They're not doing any harm.
If you found a Terminal command that is supposed to stop them from being created, I would be extremely skeptical as to the wisdom of running it.

Yes you can definitely do this. You'll need an app on the iPad that handles PDF viewing and editing. There are many around - two of the best I've seen are GoodReader and PDF Expert.
In iTunes when you iPad is connected to your PC, go to the Apps tab and scroll down and you'll see the File Sharing section. You can drag files to there to share them to your iPad.
You could also look at online file sync services like PDF to ePub Maker if you prefer not to have to connect your iPad to a PC

You can't. It doesn't work that way.
the new album that you created doesn't contain a copy of the actual photo. It contains a pointer to that photo. If you delete it from the camera roll, you will delete it from the album that you created as well. Albums that you create on the iPad in the Photos app are for local organization only and cannot be transfer or imported to your computer, because there really are no photos in those albums

I am a mental health professional. My supervisor emails me confidential information as Word documents, which I download using Firefox. When the download is complete, I open the document and save it to my secured flash drive. I would like to then delete the file from my computer, so the flash drive has the only copy, to protect my clients' privacy. The only directions I can find are for deleting the entry from the downloads list, but not the file itself.

There is technology known as RMS which you could set series of policies like only members in the company could access certain documents and if someone copy them and attempt to run them in another PC or outside company, it won't work. Take a look at:

I'm new to using Time Machine - I'm making my first backup right now - and I have a few concerns.
So let's say my precious photos are taking up most of my Mac's hard drive space. I back them up with Time Machine on an external hard drive. After that, I want to delete my photos from my Mac because I want more space and my photos are now stored in the external hard drive. I have a few questions about that.
First, does Time Machine's backup system follow the same concept as having extra storage (so would this be a reasonable decision to make)?
Second, if it does, then could I access/open these photos from Time Machine's backup anytime I want?
Third, would I need to use the restore backup function of Time Machine every time I want to open my photos are there alternative ways of accessing my photos, like through opening directory paths to the photos?
Lastly, when the external hard drive becomes full and Time Machine wants to delete my oldest backup files, what can I do to ensure that these photos will never get deleted unless I manually do it? Like, is there a way to lock and secure these files? Or, is it like if these photos are the only copies saved in the backup, I can rest assure that Time Machine will never delete them?

1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.

I bought a external hard drive today...and I've never used TM before.
Basically, I want to back up everything on my computer to the hard drive. But, I'm running out of space on my Mac...is there any way to use Time Machine to back up my computer AND keep all of those files that are taking up all that extra space? I'm assuming it works like an iPhone backup (and deletes contacts, notes, etc. that you delete)...but from what I've read on this site, it seems like Time Machine backups work a little differently. If you delete your files from your main hard drive, TM will eventually purge them from the backups.
If a file existed for more than a week on your hard drive, then TM will keep a copy in its backups until the TM drive fills up, and then the file is at risk of being deleted.
If a file existed for only a few days, there is a chance that all the backups of it will be deleted within a week.
If a file existed for only a few hours, there is a chance that all the backups of it will be deleted the very next day.
All of the above assumes that the file existed *in the same place*. If you moved the file around to different places then there is even less likelihood of it being retained by TM.
If you can manage to keep your files on your hard drive in the same place for at least a week before you delete them, and you always ensure that your TM disk has plenty of space for new backups, then TM will be fine for retaining your deleted files.
If you can't keep your files in the same place for a week before deleting them, and you still want them archived in your backups, then Time Machine is not a good backup program for you to use. Retrospect would be better.

First just try logging out and back in. Whatever is holding on to it may not be running after the logout thus freeing it so you can trash it after logging back in.

How can I delete event files from iMovie to save disk space?

I have been shooting a lot of HD video of my son's soccer games and am now realizing some of the problems with the newer iMovie 10. It appears to not allow for partial video deletion of videos in events (really too bad because previous versions of iMovie did this really well), And, sometimes it will not actually move the deleted file to the Trash to help free up disk space on the computer. This is also a problem because I have to did around in the View in Finder mode to find the events I just deleted in order to move them to the Trash manually. Yeegads! All of this said, what I appear to have happening is a huge amount of video that I never plan to keep (most of a 90 minute soccer game does not make it into highlights -- imagine that?) clogging up my hard drive. My poor computer needs to have a cholesteral check.
Any advice on how to manage large video files 40 minute HD files within (or outside) of iMovie 10 so that I can efficiently eliminate irrelevant content and actually delete files to prevent disk overload would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking about using iMovie 9 to edit down and delete the unwanted footage and then update the files into iMovie 10 for some of its bells and whistles any problems with that?
I must admit, I think iMovie 10 is a failure in certain essential ways. It dropped Keywords, its deletion is not true deletion, and it's all or nothing when deleting an event. I have always been a huge Apple fan, but this new release of iMovie 10 has not been a good user experience for me. I have read a lot of feedback from others with similar problems and issues with iMovie 10 and would really like to understand what Apple plans to do to address some of these defficiencies in what will hopefully be a much better next version.
