How can i organise my home movie video clips in iMovie in chronological order

Hello,
Can anyone help please?
I have masses of home movies that were taken on VHS, transferred them onto DVDs, then loaded these and put them onto imovies.  Perfect so far!
But now stuck, as they have been imported in reverse order into the Event Library, and I'd like them to be show in chronological order with the earliest taken showing up first, so I can use them for other projects easily without a huge amount of working out what happened, when!
Many thanks,

If you import from a digital camera or camcorder, iMovie will automatically store your events in date order.
However, if you imported clips from an analog camcorder, like VHS or 8MM or Hi8, iMovie does not have any metadata to work with.
In this case, there are two ways to add back this metadata.
The simplest way is to right click on your Event clip and select Adjust Clip Date And Time. Do this for all clips in the event.
The other way is to name your clips before importing to imovie in this format:
clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext
where hh is hours in 24 hour time, and ext is the current file extension. If you name your clips this way, and then import to iMovie through FILE/IMPORT MOVIE then the clips will sort into the proper year.
Sometimes, when you import from a VHS tape ( or DVD of a VHS tape), you get one long clip for several events.
I have found I get good results by chopping up this clip into shorter clips corresponding to real world events (like birthday party, for example) so that the whole clip has the same date.
To do this I use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5.
I first will find the long clip in the Finder. From iMovie, right-click on the long clip and select Reveal in Finder)
Then drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Move the playhead to the beginning of the first short clip you want to make, and click I for in point. Then move the playhead to the end of the first short clip you want to make, and press O for outpoint. (i and o do not have to be capitalized).  Then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME in Apple Intermediate Codec. Name it as I mentioned above. (clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss.ext)
Then repeat for all additional shorter clips you need from that long clip.

How can i sync my home made videos to my ipad, All ar in Quicktime or MPG4 format (it´s not easy as with photo why) I use a PC with Win 7 and Itune.

That alone may not be enough.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.

how can i access my home shared videos from my iPad2 if I now have iTunes match?

That's exactly what I meant, but for some reason Home Sharing stopped working on my iPad2 once I activated iTunes Match.
Since then, I waited for iTunes Match to finish setting up and scanning my iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and I restarted my iPad2. Both Home Sharing and iTunes Match are now up and running smoothly!
    Thanks for the reply!

  • How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2

How can I change the duration for all clips in iMovie 10.2?  I'm used to working in the older version of iMovie where all I had to do was click on the gear on the clip and change the duration. ALso could use the tool bar to set the duration for all clips. Can't figure out how to do that in this new version. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In the timeline select the clip whose duration you want to change. Click the adjust button at the top of the viewer and then click the i button and you can set the duration. For multiple clips select them all and in the i button type in the duration you want and it will be applied to all the selected clips. You can also change the duration of a clip in the timeline by putting the cursor over the beginning or end of a clip and dragging. A popup will show the new duration.

  • How do I convert Kodak Camera .mov video clips to Windows .wav files?

This morning I purchased Apple QuickTime Pro for ONE specific reason and this is so I can convert .mov video clips taken with Kodak cameras to Microsoft Windows .wav files. I have tried everything I can imagine so far with negative results.
I'm starting to think this may not be possible even though APPLE advertised this program as being capable of converting their .mov files to "LOTS" of the usual formats. IF Windows .wav is not a common format then what is?
If this is not possible with this program I am going to be one unhappy guy for having totally wasted $29.95 and will have a very bad opinion of Apple in my mind from now on.
DELL Dimension 8300   Windows XP Pro   XP Media Edition

Open your Kodak file using QT Pro.
Open the Movie Properties window and "Extract" the audio track.
This will open in a new window. Choose "Export" and then Sound to WAV. Name and save the file.

  • How can I import my home movies (.dv) into iTunes?

I'm getting frustrated with the lack of information about converting movies with all the recent upgrades. I have many short home movies in a variety of formats (.dv, .mov. Mp4, etc) - how in the world can I get them into iTunes (and ultimately on my iPad) so I can share them? It looks like Quicktime Pro is no more and Quicktime 10 is grayed out under all the share options? I'm at a loss - do I need to go back to the original iMovie files and save as something else??? Thanks much!
Everything I have is the most recent, most up-to-date version you can have. Quicktime, iTunes, OS, iOS, etc - it's ALL the most recent version. Running a iMac G5 and iPad2.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • How can I convert a home movie on dvd(vob file) to edit on imovie?

I had home movies converted to a dvd- the files are vob. Now I want to edit the movies in imovie.
I am having a difficult time converting from vob straight to mov files.
I purchased Quick Time Pro thinking that could do it, but I haven't been able to.
Also, it just says QuickTime Player Version 7.6.4 (518.35) on my computer.
Is it supposed to say QuickTIme Pro?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

The "Pro" option just unlocks a lot of features in QuickTime Player. If you look at the registration info, it will show if you have Pro installed.
For converting DVD's you have two options; hardware or software.
The hardware option involves connecting a DVD player's analog outputs to a qualified "DV device" (DV camcorder, VTR or converter) then connecting the DV device's Firewire port to your Mac to capture the footage.
The software option involves using an application like DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD's VOB files into an editable format that works natively with your chosen NLE.

And from the TOU of these forums:

Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How can I match sound quality between video clips and audio clips?

    Hi guys,
First of all let me say that I enjoy using the latest Media Encoder. However, as a novice, I have two related problems.
1.I am recording video to use with PowerPoint slides in Adobe Captivate. I am encoding the video with best quality FLV. This produces very good video,
but with a degraded audio track, even though I had filtered the audio in soundbooth. The post encoding sounds like it did before Soundbooth corrections.
    2. Some of the video recording has been set cut into audio clips to be used as background narration behind PowerPoint. The logic behind this is: that if both are
recorded at the same time, the voice quality should match.
This is far from the outcome. I have tried MP3 for the audio which of course produced the best sound- but is entirely unlike the rest of the video. I have also encoded the audio with Windows Waveform preset figuring that since the soundbooth edit was a .wav file, that there should be a reasonable match. Wrong again!
So, the audio quality of all clips is poor, and the difference between the encoded video clips, and the audio encoded clips spoils the otherwise professional result in Captivate.
Please help, all of you experts.

    Thank you.
    OS Windows 7 x 64; 3.2 MHz; 2 TB; 12 GB Ram-9GB ram allocated to Adobe.
    My process is this:
    1. The whole video and audio narration material is shot in one continuous video sesseion.
    2. The microphone is only mono, but the camera is set to stereo. Noone can work out how to change the camera to mono.
    3. In Premiere Pro 5, I select render and replace in SoundBooth.
    4. In Soundbooth, I choose Add Multichannels.
    5. In Multichannels, I delete the unwanted noisy channel, and any other unused channels.
    6. With the remaining mono channel, I then select Export and Save As option, then Stereo.
    7. Next I edit the stereo channels as needed.
    8. The imported stereo won't automatically update in Premiere Pro, so in PPR I import the new edited stereo track.
    9. I test this track in PPR, to check that it is playing R & L channels. It is. OK.
10 On the timeline, I proceed to cut apart this single stereo wavelength .
11.These clips are saved as Video, or Audio subclips.
12 From the video subclips, I export to Media Encoder, and choose either FLV4 match attributes (High Q). This I modify to custom 2 pass (Custom save).
The summary says that this is saved to MP3 Stereo.
    13. I import this into Captivate 5, but the Video outcome is Left channel only. I have tested this on Media Player/Real Player where it is also L channel only.
    14. I export my Audio subclips to Media player, and select MP3 option and this summary also reports stereo. The Audio outcome is stereo, when played in any player and in Captivate 5.
I cannot understand how a single, continuous track edited uniformly in Soundbooth to stereo, can produce different outcomes in Media player.
I would so appreciate a solution to this problem, because, in the Captivate 5 e-learning production, the switch between stereo audio (behind PowerPoints), and l. channel video is distracting. Naturally, the l. channel only is a thin sound. It is as if it had never been edited in SoundBooth at all.

  • How can I reset/undo a movement stabilized clip?

    Hello everybody,
My question is regarding the dominant movement stabilization that Final Cut Pro X can do. It's very clever, but sometimes does more harm than good, the clips turn into funhouse funhouse mirrors. I believe it's doing its best with my shaky footage, but I can't figure out how to undo a stabilization of a given clip, or reset it – does anyone know how this can be done?
On non-stabilized clip I have the option to Analyse and Stabilize, as well as a Stabilization item in the Inspector. Here I can customize it manually.
But on a clip already stabilized via Analyze and Stabilize there is no Stabilization item in the inspector, and no mention that the clip has already been stabilized. It's a bit too Microsoft for my taste ('I know what's best for you') if I have to accept the application's fix.
Of course I could reimport the media all over and not have it stabilize it, but this clip is already edited on my Timeline.
    Any input appreciated - thanks!
    Thomas

    Just some images for illustration.
    Inspector for non-stabilized clip:
Inspector for stabilized clip (via Analyze and Stabilize) – no stabilization item:
And the contextual menu option Analyze and Stabilize on a non-stabilized clip, any mention of stabilization is gone on an already stabilized clip ...

  • How can I speed up loading of video clips in Elements 9.0?

    Hi,
I upgraded from 7.0 to 8.0 and was unhappy with the product, so upgraded again to 9.0 (Elements and Premiere). Right now the problem is that it takes 20-25 seconds to load a short video clip, i.e. to play it.
I am running with an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.20 Ghz/2.20+GHz with 3 GB of ram.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

As a practical example it originally took 3 min to load a 1 hour 29 minute wedding & reception I shot in ACVHD 1080x1900. This was using one disk for all PE9 functions.
I defraged my drives and arranged the program and pagefile on one disk (C:), the project on another and recaptured the media onto the third drive
The same project then  took 1 minute to load or if I do it seperately, 20 seconds loading the program and 40 seconds the media
I can move up and down the full length of the long timeline quite quickly.
I have 2.4g core duo and 2mb ram
This is discussed to in many posts in this forum
So you know what to do!

  • How do I burn my home movies to a DVD?

I have a MacBook Pro which I purchased in June of 2012. I would like to put my home moives onto a DVD to mail to my relatives. (I don't want ot put them on You Tube.) How can I burn my home movies onto a DVD? I guess you could do this with iDVD in iMovie 11, but the MacBook Pro that I have does not have this feature under Share. What do I do?

Personally, I use iMovie to edit my home movies, then I use Burn to burn it to a disk. Burn will automatically set the necessary files and everything for you too! Just drag and drop, and click burn.
