How can I verify CAPWAP/LWAPP access point?

Hello,
I wonder how can I check / what command shoul I use on non-autonomous access points to see wether they are support capwap or they support lwapp??
Thank you folks..

Hello,
I think Leo means how to distinguish by autonomous and lightwieght. not between LWAPP and CAPWAP.
Autohomous APs have in their image nam: K9W7 while lightweight APs have K9W8. That is correct. But I think this is not the answer.
In order to distinguish if an AP uses LWAPP or CAPWAP you have first to know that:
- Some old APs support only LWAPP. They do not support CAPWAP (1010 and 1030 for example).
- CAPWAP started with WLC version 5.2. If you have 5.2 or later then your AP supports CAPWAP. (old APs metnioed above are not supported on 5.x. they are supported on up to 4.x).
- Some APs support CAPWAP only. They work onlyh on WLCs with version 5.2 and above that supports capwap. (1140 for example does not work with 4.x, 5.0 or 5.1). While some other APs may work with either lwapp or capwap (1240 works with lwapp if it joing WLC running 5.0 while it works with capwap if it joins WLC that runs 7.x).
Now, in order to know if your AP supports capwap or lwapp:
- You need to know if your AP has any limitation (if it is capwap only, lwapp only or can run on both).
- if your AP can run on both lwapp and capwap you can do follow the follownig steps:
* show version from the AP to know the IOS version running on it.
* Go to this link (wireless compatibility matrix): http://tiny.cc/k08thw
* in the page, look for your IOS versoin that you knew from show version command.
* find what is WLC version that your AP version corresponds to.
* If the corresponding WLC version is 5.2 or later then you are running CAPWAP. If your WLC runs 5.1 or earlier then      you are running lwapp.

  • How can I monitor the active access point + data c...

My privider (o2 Germany) requires me to use different access points (APN, proxy) on my phone (N80) depending on the type of browsing I want do do (WAP vs. "normal" access), and each of them has a "high cost trap" if I use the wrong one for the particular service.
Very annoying - up to the point that I consider not using the phone for online access at all because I'm so scared to run into uncontrollably high fees.
Anyways. I wonder if there is add-on software for my phone that helps me monitor my data connection, i.e.:
    * show me the currently used access point at the top of the display (yes, I know I can go into some deep menus to look it up, but that's not very helpful or even easy to use)
    * automatically disconnect when the conn is idle for a while (One of the data modes is time-based, meaning I do not want to have it open all the time by accident)
Currently, all I can see at the top of the display is that I have a data connection at all, but that does not give me enough information to know I'm in the right mode for what I'm doing.
    Thomas

You can force a disconnect by pressing the red/hangup key for a couple of seconds when the phone is in the standby state.
And in menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Packet data change the setting "Packet data conn." to "When needed" and leave the "Access point" setting there to "None".
When you or apps on your phone are not doing any data transfer, then regardless of whether it is a WAP or "full" Internet packet data connection, you should not cumulate any charges.
You can also move the Connection Manager app from the Tools submenu to the main menu, or even to the Active standby apps list (or the softkeys) for quicker access. No need to deep dive into menus for it then.
And for individual apps, you can usually set the default access point to whatever is best to use for that particular app. For the browsers ("Web" and "Services") you can also make them ask you to pick the access point every time you connect.

  • How can we disable the OSX Access Point functionality without disabling all wifi.

Curious if anyone knows a way in Lion/Mountain Lion to disable the OSX access point features.
i have about 50+ macs in our company for iOS development. lately we've had a lot of rogue AP's showing up, people bridging the internal network by activating the "become a hotspot" feature in OSX. this is a *GREAT* feature, don't get me wrong. especially the latency and ease of use.. but in our case its causing problems, and i'm looking at a way to disable the AP features without disabling ALL wifi with something like.
    /usr/sbin/networksetup -setairportpower en1 off
this is a bit too much ,it disables the entire airport/wifi. we want to only disable the access point capabilities.
any hardcore guru's out there have some advise?
    TIA!

Enabling sharing services requires administrative access, so one option is to set this and only give folks standard "managed" access. The Internet Sharing service is a process called "InternetSharing" that runs as the root user and establishes all the appropriate services for the needed connection. You could technically remove or even rename this process on systems to prevent it from being used, or remove or disable its launch daemon. These files are in the following directories:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
    /usr/libexec/InternetSharing

  • LWAPP Access points flapping

    Hi,
I have 1252 and 1260 LWAPP access points in 20 sites connected to a 5500 controller over WAN through flexconnect.
Last two weeks, i noticed that the access points associated to the primary controller keeps flapping.(ie) it stay in primary controller for a minute or two and then it goes off again and again. Moved the APs to the secondary controller. Again i see the same issue. Noticed that there is no issue with the bandwidth.
This issue happened so far in two sites. The issue happens with all the access points at both of these sites. Replaced the access points. Still no luck. So converted the APs to autonomous mode as a temporary fix. Please let me know the suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Abinaya

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for your reply...me and abinaya with in same team
yes we have a huge gap between the AP up time and Joining time
Let me tel you in how we are connected...
We have 1000's of WAN link(MPLS) connected to Data Center.
In Data Center we have this WLC 5508
20 Locations are added to this WLC(Flex Connect), each location has 4-5 AP's
    Points we observed.
When we change this AP's to Autonomus mode, its working fine. Even in autonomus mode AP has to reach DC for AAA
If the WAN link has some problem, it should effect other devices which connect to DC.
    We replaced AP's...but no luck.
This happened with different locations, different controllers.
We found the below logs in all the AP's which met this problem.

    Hi,
What's the specific model of your 4402? How many access points do your controller support?
Can you also check if the uplink or distribution ports on your WLC goes up and down. Thanks.

How can I verify that my App data is actually stored in the iCloud. I can see and access my notebook, contacts etc. on the iCloud website, and I can see my photos in a folder on my Windows-based desktop compter (iCloud/Photostream). But no app data.
With Dropbox, I can actually see all of my stored files. With iCloud, it seems, I'm supposed to just trust that Apple has my back. Short of deliberately trashing my app data and then attempting a restore, is there no way to check the data?

You can't access them on Windows (unless you have iCloud enabled Windows programs) and I don't think any are, yet.
iCloud data is accessed via Apps/Programs, the Windows programs vendors will have to step up (just to make it worse Microsoft have not yet enabled their Mac programs, such as Office yet) I doubt that iCloud access is much of a priority for them, complain to MS, when enough Windows users complain maybe they'll do something.

I'm suddenly unable to join my Airport network with my PowerBook G4.  I am able to access my network with all of my other devices.  How can I once again establish access using my PowerBook G4?

Bruce777 solved this for me, thank you Bruce! My printer now works perfectly on my new wifi network!
Bruce's  instructions, for anyone else having the same issue:
    - delete any previously set up printers
    - scrub old hp software and update software to get the hp 2.8 drivers
    - remove the usb cable from the printer if you have one connected
    - reset the printer network to hpsetup (hold down the power button and press network button 2x and then cancel 3x, release power button.)
    - print out the wireless network test report (hold down the network button and press the update button 2x). verify the network name / ssid is hsetup
    - got to sys prefs > network and change the mac wireless network to hpsetup
    - go to the sys pref > print scan
    - add the HP 8000 printer
    - click on the options and supplies button and click on the Show Printer Webpage
    - click on the networking tab > wireless in the left pane > start network wizard and change the network from hpsetup to your network
    - finish (this page may freeze up.  close the browser)
    - go back to the sys prefs and change the wireless network back to your networt
    - go to the printer and print out the wireless network test report (press network button and update button 2x).  Check that the SSID is your network
    - go to sys prefs > print scan > select your printer > options & supplies > show printer webpage > network info (check ssid and compare to wireless network test report)
    - try printing something to your printer.  It might take a little time the first print.

  • How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

How do i ensure the new access point is joined the controller or not

To Verifying that Access Points Join the Controller or not there are two ways as below.
Please go through the step by step to find the APs joined state
When replacing a controller, you need to make sure that access points join the new controller.
Using the GUI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 Follow these steps to configure the new controller as a master controller.
    a. Click Controller > Advanced > Master Controller Mode to open the Master Controller Configuration page.
    b. Check the Master Controller Mode check box.
    c. Click Apply to commit your changes.
    d. Click Save Configuration to save your changes.
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
Step 3 Restart the access points.
Step 4 Once all the access points have joined the new controller, configure the controller not to be a master controller by unchecking the Master Controller Mode check box on the Master Controller Configuration page.
Using the CLI to Verify that Access Points Join the Controller
Follow these steps to ensure that access points join the new controller.
Step 1 To configure the new controller as a master controller, enter this command:
    config network master-base enable
Step 2 (Optional) Flush the ARP and MAC address tables within the network infrastructure. Ask your network administrator for more information about this step.
Step 3 Restart the access points.

  • LWAPP Access Point IOS Upgrade?

Using a 4400 Wireless Controller and WCS how do you upgrade the LWAPP IOS on Access Points to the latest version or is this even necessary? My LWAPP access points are fully functional 1131's and converted 1230's, but I would like to know what the procedure to update ios's are when a new one comes out. Do these automatically install when you update the controller software or do I need to download new IOS periodically and copy it to the controller or WCS, etc? What do you think?

    Hi Jim,
When a Lightweight AP is connected to the WLC it has the same Version as the WLC. For example if the WLC is running 4.0.155.1 the AP is running 4.0.155.1. If you upgrade the WLC to a new version the AP's are upgraded at the same time. There is no need to do anything with the AP's themselves.
    Hope this helps!

  • Autonomous vs LWAPP access point

I am new to these 2 terms.
What's the main difference between autonomous and LWAPP access point?
Autonomous AP can work on it's own, while LWAPP need to be used with WNC?
If I need to deploy an wireless enironment, I should use LWAPP, right?

The main difference is autonomous do not require a controller to control the AP and it use WLSE for management software; the LWAPP require a WLC wireless controller to control all of the AP but provide ease of management for the communication / setting between APs, it use another management software call WCS.
If you will deploy many APs, LWAPP will be better for easier management. If only a few APs, autonomous is fine because do not require additional WLC.

  • How can I verify if SHRNK or MOVE will reclaim space?

    Hi all,
    I need to optimize a 9.2 and a 10.2 database.
I suspect fragmentation to be one of the causes of slowness (some queries do a lot of full table scan), but I want to rebuild only the objects which really contain unused .
How can I verify in advance if an ALTER TABLE SHRINK or ALTER TABLE MOVE will really reclaim free space? I'd like to verify if some segments are good candidates for shrinking rather when do an "ALTER TABLE MOVE" on the whole database...
