How do I add a (vertical) picture to show while my movie is playing?

Im currently making a movie, and I want to have a picture present in the corner of the video while the movie is playing. I enabled advanced options and tried picture-in-picture, but that not only forces ken burns effect but it makes me use a horizontal cropping frame. Is there any way to add a vertically shaped picture to be in my video?

sure, but it needs some preparation.
in a designated 'paint'-application, I recommend Pixelmator, add your portrait shot to a transparent background with 16:9 aspect ratio.
if you don't own a picture-processor, your Macs Preview can do the trick:
open any 16:9 ratio picture in Preview
select-all (cmd-a)
erase (backspace) => a grey, empty 'nothing'
copy/paste your portrait pic => the 'magic' are the grey, transparent areas l/r
save as a png to keep transparency
add pic to iMovie Project => portrait PiP!

OK, my problem is deeper than reading cursor position. My cursor disappears when the VI is first run, never to appear again. I have the X-axis set up for absolute time, and I think that might have something to do with it.

I would imagine that they just have to be in the program you are syncing from. If you are on Windows XP, the pics would have to be in Microsoft Outlook.
You would add it here in outlook...
If you are adding contacts manually (by dragging the vCard files to the iPod) then you cannot have pictures displayed.

I am making grad invites and i keep trying to add a colored picture on top of the black and white background picture and it keeps changing the colored one black and white i am using Photoshop CC 2014! any help is greatly appreciated! I cant figure this one out!

What is the file type? Is it a file that supports layers? Is the color photo in its own layer?

That's correct - Photos supports geotagging, but only allows viewing of that information. Once an image is in Photos, geotags cannot be added, deleted, or edited. This post suggests some apps for editing geotags outside of the Photos app. As you mentioned, you can edit the geotags in iPhoto, export to the finder and then import to Photos. I would guess (and hope!) we'll see this added in an update, and hopefully soon!

How do you add a new portion to the beginning of your project without disturbing the rest of the project that already has perfectly place clips attached to beat markers with the music ?
I forgot to add a tittle intro before the music starts with the attached pictures. When I try to add the whole project goes out of sync.
I want to just add an intro without disturbing the entire project.

Well, if you re-attach your background music under the first clip, the starting point will be at the start of that clip so I think it will still be in sync. If not it's simply a matter of nudging the music track a bit along the timeline. Comparing the audio waveforms of the two tracks should help with this. When its right you can delete the track in the background music position. Now you can add what you like before the first clip without affecting sync.

I would have thrown a prompt to the user in the renderasJpeg
function and removed it in last line of convertToImage function.
Isn't this what you want?
