How do I code PL/SQL using files instead of directly against the database

Hi All,
My current project, like pretty much all I've every worked on, requires all developers of pl/sql routines to code those routines in source controlled files. We then edit the files (normally using TOAD - trying to move to SQL Developer) compile them against the DB, fix the errors, test etc.
I've been trying to do the same in SQL Developer (1.2 and 1.5EA) and it appears as though I can't get the tool to understand my .pks and .pkb files are packages - and thus when I compile them I will receive a "compiler" window containing the errors. It appears to simply run the code as a script returning me:
Warning: execution completed with warning
PACKAGE BODY XYZ Compiled.
This is not the same behavior I receive when I edit objects directly in the database (something I never do).
I hope I'm not missing something obvious.
Thanks in advance.

Your latest EA fixed this, at least for subversion and cvs, hooray! and I'm quite happy with it.
But I think our posters need a quick how-to for subversion:
* the latest EA has subversion and cvs installed
* open VIEW menu->Versioning Navigator
* create your SVN repository in Versioning Navigator, that will establish all of the authentication stuff for your later work
* use VIEW menu->Files and navigate to your subversion working checkout directory.
The File navigator will become your main work zone, if you're anything like me.
for unconventional file suffixes:
* open TOOLS menu->Preferences
* click the File Types topic
* click "Add.." to add the file name extension
* it won't let you specify content type in the little "add" dialog; just click OK
* when you return to the main Preferences screen for file types, your new type will be selected, and below there is a content type drop-down under "Details for type .blahblah"
* choose SQL Script as the type for your new file type, and click OK to commit the changes
* I find "SQL Script" much easier to work with than PlSqlNode, which seems to suppress the file handling and versioning features
Good luck!

How can I run a SQL script file from a location on my computer without providing the whole path?
Is there some way I can set a "Working folder" in SQL Plus??
    Thanks!
    Tom

You can create an environment variable called "SQLPATH" which is a list of directories that SQL*Plus will search for your .SQL
    scripts.
I would like to use another directory than the oracle/bin...
How can I do this ??
    Hello,
U can do this by this way:
Save odm_script.sql file to the default Oracle
directory i.e. Oracle-Home/bin and Run following command
    through SQL Plus.
    SQL>@Script_Name
I hope this will resolve ur problem.

  • How to load data from a  flat file which is there in the application server

    HI All,
how to load data from a  flat file which is there in the application server..

    Hi,
Firstly you will need to place the file(s) in the AL11 path. Then in your infopackage in "Extraction" tab you need to select "Application Server" option. Then you need to specify the path as well as the exact file you want to load by using the browsing button.
If your file name keeps changing on a daily basis i.e. name_ddmmyyyy.csv, then in the Extraction tab you have the option to write an ABAP routine that generates the file name. Here you will need to append sy-datum to "name" and then append ".csv" to generate complete filename.
Please let me know if this is helpful or if you need any more inputs.

  • In my SOA Composite, Can I use file/FTP adapter to get the EDI X12 850

Our requirement is to build a SOA Composite to dump all the details in a EDI X12 850 ( Purchase order ) document in to a database table. In my SOA Composite, Can I use file/FTP adapter to get the EDI X12 850 element details to map them to a base base columns.

Drop the File Adapter to the left lane of the composite i.e., Services lane...
Go to Step 2, give a meaningful name....
Step 3, select "define from operation and schema"
Step 4, select the operation type as "read"
Step 5, select physical path and give the folder path in the "Directory for incoming files" field.,
Step 6, select wildcards and give the expression depending on the file name it would be at run time...
Step 7, select the polling frequency as required....
Step 8, in the URL field, adjacent to that , select "browse for schema file" and select the XSD which you have exported from B2B Editor.
say next and finish, you will be good to go.
    Hope this helps,
    Thanks,

Captivate 8 - How to change to producing "project.json" file instead of a "project.txt" file?  Having issues with viewing published projects due to this.   Would be thankful fo rany/all advice.

I'm having the same issue. I've been able to work around it by opening the txt file and copying the contents. Then I open a new file in Sublime Text 2, paste the contents and save the new file as "project.json". It seems to work, but it'd been nice if I didn't have to do this everytime I publish a new project.

  • Panagon and MGETDOC Application:open a doc, the doc goes to .zip file instead of going to the doc directly

Application: FileNet content SG (Panagon) and MGETDOC(Web application)
Issue: when open a doc, the doc goes to .zip file instead of going to the doc directly. Only this issue happens for .xlsx, docs and pptx document.
Note: On all client machine, we are using office 2007 and IE8 browser
Cause: On 16th July 2013, . Net framework 4.5 is install on all our GI-D desktop machines. There after the issue is started .
Application Background: Applications built on .net framework 1.1 and it can support up to 4.0 version on client machine to view the documents through panagon and MGETDOC application. Panagon (Filenet content services) is
not supported in .net framework 4.5 and above.
Work around: After I had troubleshooting and tested with one of our  system which has .net framework 4.5, IE8 does not support with HTML5 and tested with IE9 and Chrome, documents were able to open successfully.
I had removed .Net framework 4.5 uninstalled and able to open the documents w/o any issue. And also we had give the work around as if the doc goes to zip file, they open the doc by removing the . zip extension and they can save it as .xlsx or docx file and
they can able to open file.
Please let us know if you there is a fix to export the files through framework 4.5 and do contact us if you need further details, we shall discuss on the same. Thank you for your support. Request you to email @

    Presumably you're using Safari?
You can change that in Safari Preferences (at least in 5.0.3, might be different in 5.1.x)
The checkbox at the bottom will do that for you. However! I strongly advise against permitting that; there have been, and no doubt will be again, malware that uses that to bypass authentication.
Just select Desktop as the default download location so you don't have to dig for the files.

  • How to apply row level security against the database administrator

I would like an advice in applying row level security against the database administrator. We need to prevent DBA from editing data in some table rows or have any indication that data was corrupted.
There is no problem in viewing the data so we considered one way hash function or digital signature which will be stored in the same table, but we see following disadvantages:
HASH - DBA may use the same hash function to update the stored data after he changes the sensitive row.
Digital signature - the is a need to manage and keep the private key in a safe place outside of DB
Is there additional ways to achieve the aim?

Does VPD helps to prevent from DBA to edit/view a data in specific rows?Yes.
If I correctly understand, DBA has full access to security policy used by VPD to control the access and can grant himself privileges that I don't want. You can to define which users can be exempt of the politics, for the context or by Grant EXEMPT.
    This includes DBAs.
The simple fact of being DBA doesn't guarantee the exemption.
Everything goes to depend of the VPD config.
