How do i connect my Tascam pre-amp?

And then How do I get the Tascam talking to GarageBand?

thank you for taking the time to respond. I did stop by the dealership on Monday to get an answer and the drivers I needed to install my Tascam.
I would suggest asking this in the GarageBand forum - there are people
there who use Tascam kit. It would be helpful to know
the exact model.

  • How do I connect a Tascam US-144    Audio/MIDI Interface

I have no idea what I'm doing.
I also have a Axiom 25 which works just fine when I plug it in.
    ...so
    what's the deal?

not to be rude, but this is really starting to get on my nerves!
Dude, it's not my fault, OK? So you'd better calm down.
This Tascam device obviously has a direct monitoring option, which means that if you connect a sound source to one of its inputs and plug your headphones into headphone jack, you MUST hear something (and it is absolutely independent of any software that you use). If you don't hear anything, then there is a possibility that: a) you forgot to switch it on (hence no lights, no nothing, as you say) or put up the levels; b) the device is broken.
It is not true that its manual refers to Windows only. There are actually sections about how to configure it in Mac OSX (see, I had the trouble to download the manual just to help you). As for Logic, everything you need to know is also in its manual ('setting up your system' section if I am not mistaken).
Just in case, have you reached the stage when you can select Tascam interface as Input device for Logic in Preferences -> Audio -> General tab? If you have, it means OS recognizes it and the driver works.
    So next step would be:
    1) Create an Audio track
    2) Select the APPROPRIATE input (the one where you actually plugged in your instrument) as a sound source (have you done that?)
    3) Arm the track for recording or switch on input monitoring
I don't really know how much more specific can one be here. Also, note that I assume your Mac is in good condition and everything works, including USB ports and audio/USB cables.

How do I connect my MacBookPro to my external amp/speakers.
There's is no choice in sys pref to choose LINE OUT, only INTERNAL SPEAKERS.

The headphone jack is your combo headphone/line out. You use a mini plug on the MBP end and, depending on your external amp/speakers, either a mini jack or a pair of RCA jacks.
PS. Your OS X level can't be 10.3.7 ... MacBook Pro's were first delivered with OS X Tiger 10.4.

  • Using G4 iTunes to connect to pre-amp

Is the headphone port my only way of sending iTunes to my pre-amp? If not, can I use the firewire or a USB port (or something else)? Will I get better signal quality by using the latter?

    Sorry for the late reply,
At the lower area of the back of my G4 MDD Dual there are 3 Holes for mini jacks.
1- (has ear phone icon indicator) for phone jacks
    2- (audio icon) Line in
    3- (audio icon) Line out
From manual, G4 Audio Specs G4 MDD Dual:
    Front headphone jack
    Built-in speaker
Stereo audio line in and line out minijacks
Apple speaker minijack for connection to optional Apple Pro Speakers
which G4 do you have ? perhaps, a different model ?

  • Questions about Pre-amp of the Tascam FW1884 or M-Audio Project Mix...

    Hello everybody,
I'd like to purchase a semi-pro (I hope) audio interface.
The Tascam FW1884 or the M-Audio Project Mix with their "all in one" feature seem to fit for what I want to do.
But I don't know if the Pre-amp or the digital converters are quite good or just awfull.
Are they better or not than the FireStudio from Presonus ?
Since I need at least 8 XLR inputs, the FireStudio seems to be a good choice (but without a remote control, I know...)
Is there someone who have an answer ?
    Thanks
    Vincent
PS : pardon my English, I'm desperatly French

I have a ProjectMix and I like it. There are others that I know that like it, and there are others that don't. I've actually gotten some really nice results at times with it along with my Tube Condenser and Ribbon mics when I need it. I also plug my electric guitar into it, and I like what I get from it. It's not my main interface, but when I do use it for recording, I haven't been disappointed with it.

Hi just purchased airport express, how do I connect it an external dac which is connected to a stereo amplifier, what interconnect cables should I be using"" thanks

Normally, you would need a Mini Toslink to Toslink cable. Example below:

Most electronic superstores will have what you need as well.

  • How do I connect a phono player?

How can I connect my phono player to my macbook pro?

you will need some kind of pre-amp (either separate or built-in to your stereo). you can get a phono pre-amp from somewhere like radio shack and plug directly into your mac line-in. or you can plug the record player into your stereo phono input, then take an output from the stereo into the line-in on your mac.
    here's a cheap pre-amp: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=phono+pre-amp&num=50&hl=en&prmd=imvns&b iw=1231&bih=940&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=11452916062981367069&sa=X&ei=72n8T82W E8Ha2AXjqOHhBg&ved=0CHcQ8wIwAA

  • How do I connect studio monitors to my Mac?

    Hello all,
I have recently been in the market for sudio monitors for my Mac. I've narrowed it down to the Yamaha HS5. Ideally, I would have to of them. I would like to know how they would connect to my iMac since I've never dealt with studio monitors before. Would I need a quarter-inch jack? Would I need adapters? Pre-amps? I really have no idea what is needed.
    Thanks!

You'll need to split the stereo signal coming out of the Mac into two mono signals (L+R) using something like this HOSA Stereo 3.5 mm Phone Male - Two Mono 1-Tip and 1 ...
Then you would run a mono cable from the splitter to each speaker.
You'll need to check the manufacturer for the size of the connector on the speaker to size the cables correctly.
    regards

  • Using a mixing board as a pre amp?

    Hey all,
I have a decent little M-Audio audio interface but I'd like to record more than 2 real instrument tracks simultaneously for a recording session. I believe I can record up to 8 real instrument tracks at any given time with GB3 and was wondering if I am able to use a mixing board as a pre amp much like my audio interface? If so, how do I connect it up?
Here's the link to our board:
    http://www.behringer.com/UB2222FX/index.cfm?lang=ENG
    Thanks!
    Jay.

For 8 channels you'd need a FireWire interface or mixing console that offers at least 8 channels out.
An example, the interface I use, the Presonus FirePod FireWire Audio Interface
8 Mic PREs and 10 channels out (GB can use 8 of those)

  • How do I use GarageBand as a amp/speaker to listen to my Electronic Drum set? I have a MIDI-USB cord already but I can't figure out how to listen to my set through the software using my computer speakers?

How do I use GarageBand as a amp/speaker to listen to my Electronic Drum set? I have a MIDI-USB cord already but I can't figure out how to listen to my set through the software using my computer speakers?

If you want to listen to the sounds of your drum set, you should use an audio cable and connect it to the computer's line-in, then create a real instrument track.
If you use a Midi/USB interface, you'll have to create a software instrument track and select one of GB's drumsets as the instrument. Hopefully your drumset's midi notes are mapped to the right sounds in GB.

  • How can I connect mini to headphone amplifier?

I used to use windows to play my music when I sit in front of computer and use my headphone. My FLAC music is saved in an external hard drive. I use Foobar 2000 player to play FLAC. Between my headphone amplifier and window mobo is optical cable. Now I want to try that on the mini but it does not have optical output. How can I connect the mini to the headphone amp without having to degrade the sound quality below the optical connection I used to use on the windows? Thanks.

    What model mini?
It should have an optical out included in the headphone jack, You need:

  • How do I connect an Electric guitar to a Mac by Firewire?

Please forgive my lack of technical knowledge, I don't play guitar so the terminology is way beyond me. I am trying to find the best (and economical as in value for money) way to connect a guitar to an Intel Mac mini via Firewire port.
My daughter is getting an electric guitar for Christmas (Cort MGM-1) and a Roland Cube amp. She's been playing acoustic for five years already and is very good on guitar (now studying Grade 4). She will most likely want to record her guitar playing into software on the Mac, and I wondered what the experts here would recommend as being worth looking at.
Apple has a few pages given over to this here
    http://www.apple.com/pro/techniques/connectingguitar/
which mentions using analogue via the mic input, or digital using an "interface" but the problem I find is they only recommend USB connections, and these are pretty expensive anyway. Still, if that's the price, so be it. I would prefer to use Firewire over USB every time, if possible.
The Roland website says you can connect the guitar directly to the Mac with a cable from the amp, but threads I have read and help I have so far received on a Mac magazine forum indicate the need for a separate "audio interface" and others talk of needing a pre-amp. I am getting confused! Is the Roland amp not also a pre-amp.interface itself?
My budget is pretty low now too (actually it's been exceeded, but I'm aware of the "Buy cheap, buy twice" argument and want to think ahead. Her sister plays Flute and Clarinet and they both sing, if that is any help.
I know there are some really professional and top grade experts on this forum, and I would welcome your suggestions, recommendations and opinions. Please help me work out what to do!
    TIA

Thanks a lot to everyone for such a wide range of ideas. I've spent most of the day researchng them, and it is confusing. Now we have a number of options that also include software, eg ProTools or Cubase LE 4 or Ableton or some other program. That means even more research! And won't that double up what we are already doing with Garage Band or Logic? SOrry, I'm just a poor Sax player used to playing the dots, unamplified!
One big reason to go with Firewire (apart from its just better anyway) is the USB ports are pretty full on the Mac IIRC but the Firewire is totally unused.
As for plugging the cable straight in the back of the Mac into the Analog In port, that would only allow a single stereo input or two mono ones, and that could be limiting. I agree though that it would allow for something to be done pretty immediately.
I liked the Shure mic recommendation, I hadn't thought of that but it was extremely useful information which was great for you to add in. Very wise advice. Not sure if its a condensor mic or not, and not really sure why a condensor mic is supposed to be better. They are more expensive though but nothing in this world should be acquired because of price alone IMO; sometimes the minimum cost of something really useful is higher than just the minimum cost of purchase.
When I get one of these interfaces, where in the daisy chain should it be placed?
    Guitar - Amp - Interface - Mac
    OR
    Guitar - Interface - Mac
    OR
    Guitar - Interface - Amp - Mac
    or doesn't it matter?
If it is placed in the chain, should the amp effects be restricted to "Clean" leaving the interface or the software to do the effects, or can you change settings in as many places as wanted? I am guessing this is only a question when connecting to the Mac?
Sorry to ask so many questions, as you can see, I am getting hold of bits of ideas here and there, but there are still big gaps in my understanding. You've all brought me forwards a lot since this morning, I owe you all a great big thank you!
To sum up (please correct me where I am wrong or incomplete) what I am looking for then is an Analog to Digital converter with a Firewire (or USB perhaps) connection to the computer. These come in different flavours, often with "free" software, and can add effects in the computer just like some amps can. They all cost something like £100 to £200 upwards (same price as the amp really) and are in effect "amps for the computer" - or is that totally wrong?
As I said, I value your input and corrections.
    TIA

  • How do i set up my pre owned iphone 4 with my giffgaff sim card that was used in my iphone 3gs

how do i set up my pre owned iphone 4 with my giffgaff sim card that i have been using in my iphone 3gs
My 3Gs is on its last legs.... I've just bought a second hand iphone 4 which is unlocked......I put my giffgaff sim card in the new phone and it says activation required ......then it asks me for a passcode???  PLEASE HELP!!!! I have no idea what to do xx

You need to connect the phone to iTunes and then try activating it from there and restoring it as new.
If you have further problems and especially as the iPhone you have bought is second hand, it could be that it is not unlocked.  Are you sure that it is?  If not, then you'll need to speak to the person that you purchased it from.

  • I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it won't print. What is AirPrint and how do I connect it?

I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it still won't print.  What is AirPrint & how do I connect to it?

    Patti-
Is your Epson printer on Apple's list of AirPrint capable printers?  See <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356>.
If it is an AirPrint printer, then your WiFi router may not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint.  Contact the router's manufacturer to see if there is a change to its setup or a firmware update, that will make it work.
One other possibility is that there could be a print job stuck in the iPad's print queue.  Double click the iPad's Home button and a row of recent Apps will appear along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and see if the Print Center is there.
