How do I create a split track audio recording (2 outputs)?

I am trying to create a two-output track for use with IEM and house sound (right channel with some instrument tracks to house; left channel with click & choral voices to IEM only). I don't know how to assign the output to L or R in Express. I've seen some online answers in Pro, but they don't work the same.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to have to think about instrument numbers when I'm creating music.
"Create with next" requires you to:
1) Highlight the last used instrument (highest by number)
2) Have another (n+1) instrument ready to go in your Environment
If you fail at step #1, you'll get a duplicate, and if you fail at #2, you'll get some other type of track entirely (maybe a bus, a master fader, etc.)
Maybe I'm old-fashioned or something, but when I want a fresh track, I just want a fresh track... I don't want to have to think about existing track numbers, or the state of the Environment That's why I use "Create" and "Create Multiple," and I haven't found much use for "Create with next."
But, hey, really, I'm glad it works for someone!

  • How to add metadata to split tracks

I know how to do it to a single track but when i click on the next track it still show the name from the previous track. How to add metadata to split tracks for like a mixtape?

Thanks for the screenshots, very helpful.
Once you split them into different tracks, and each track is a different file on disk (as shown in your Windows Explorer / Finder screenshot), you'll want to:
    Go through each file
Enter the desired metadata via the Metadata Panel (see below)
    Save each file
If you're working with MP3 files, the relevant fields are the ID3 tags shown in this dialog:
If you're saving as WAVE files, the relevant RIFF metadata fields are shown in this dialog
Once you enter the info you want into those fields and the save the file, then it should show up in Windows Explorer which is what I think you're going for.

  • How do I create a master track from my tracks in garage band?

How do I create a master track in garage band

    Hi Bing,
Are you asking about the master track which controls the global settings in a GarageBand project?  Here is the information from the GarageBand user manual:
GarageBand Help: Work with the master track
    http://help.apple.com/garageband/mac/10.0/#gbnd5e8076d0
    Work with the master track
Each GarageBand project has a master track. When you show the master track, it appears below the last track in the Tracks area.
You can control the overall playback volume of a project using the Volume slider in the control bar or on the master track. Both sliders act as a master volume control for the overall project.
Generally speaking, you should adjust the output volume to a level high enough to eliminate background noise, but not high enough to cause clipping. You can check for clipping by watching the clipping indicators in the master level meter.
You can easily add a fade-out to the end of a project, so that the sound gradually fades to silence.
When you add a fade-out, four control points are added to the master track for the project. The first control point is added 10 seconds before the end of the last region in the project, the second at 7 seconds, the third at 4 seconds, and the fourth at the end of the last region.
    Show the master track
Choose Track > Show Master Track.
The master track appears below the last track in the Tracks area.
    Cheers,
    - Judy

  • Split Track Audio Output Problem

I'm trying to make a split track audio output as one requirement of the deliverables list on my current job. Dialog goes left, music right.
But even though I set up my sequence as two track mono, and have pre-panned the tracks all the way to the left (A1) and right (A2), I seem unable to make a quicktime that will play them as discrete tracks.
Inside Premiere, they play back properly -- A1 is coming out of the left speaker, A2 out of the right. No bleed or overlap.
I'm exporting them as quicktime, 2 mono tracks, ProRes 422. But when I play back the resulting quicktime -- voila, the tracks have been re-mixed together without my consent!
I've tried Media Encoder, with the same results.
FYI, In the "Channel Layout" section I've tried clicking both "mono" and "discrete" without any improvement. I feel like the problem might be that I'm choosing "Stereo" from the "Channels" popup, but there is no option for two channels that are not in stereo. It goes from mono to stereo to 3.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Especially if they arrive soon!  : )
(Using Premiere Pro 2014.1 on a MacPro Quad Core 2.93GHz machine with 16GB of RAM.)

i'm experiencing the same issue since today.
very loud (nearly ear damaging) glitches on crossfades on audio channel. doesn't matter if mp3, aif, or wav.
plus one channel of stereo sometimes randomly gets louder on transitions for a short time.
is still there in export. no matter if directly from premiere or via media encoder. (export as prores 422 with uncompressed audio). disabled native ppro import in AME, didn't help
cleared all media caches and preview files, didn't help.

  • Split Tracks While Recording w/MediaSource Play

I'm converting some cassettes using MediaSource Player. Can I split tracks while recording, i.e. record the whole cassette and then split that into individual tracks? I've done that with Microsoft Plus!, but can't seem to find that functionality with MediaSource. Also--if I want the absolute best quality recording of the cassettes, am I right in thinking I'd select WAV stereo, w/96.00 kHZ and 24 bits? The cassettes are li've recordings that I'd like to?have professionally mixed in a studio and then released as CD's, so I need the optimal "starting point" as far as the digital files are concerned. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, recording at 24/96 wave is the best that you can go with.
If you have one of the Creative sound cards, check whether you have the Creative Smart Recorder application. It has a split track function.

  • Split track audio glitch

    Hello all,
Just switched from FCP7 to PP 2014. A lot of my video work deals with split track delivery and post. In FCP 7 I would bring in a Pro Res file and have the left track on audio track 1 and right track on audio track 2.
In Premiere 2014, I learned how to replicate this. The problem is that when I pan track 1 all the way to the left I get major distortion on my second track. When I pan the second track (right Channel) to the right the distortion continues. We have two edit suites and I was able to replicate this on both systems.
I thought it was a Pro Res issue, but turns out that I was able to replicate this using PP's own color bar generator. I also experimented with other sequence settings like 29.97 vs. 59.94.
    Here's how to do it:
    1. In PP go File>New>Bars and Tone. Hit Ok to create this file.
    2. In the Project bin, right click on the Bars and Tone and select Modify>Audio Channels...
    3. Set number of audio tracks to "2" and Channel format to "Mono".
    4. drop into a timeline and pan track one to the left. You should hear distortion on the right or 2nd audio track. Pan the 2nd track to the right and its the same.
The odd thing is that if I pan everything to 99%  either way, all is good on both tracks.
I called Adobe and was told that they would look into this as they could not replicate this. I was told I would get a call back in 15 min. 3 hours later I am here sending this out to the community.
This is something that needs to be fixed if I am to use PP at all. Anyone else able to replicate? I am open to any ideas as I have gone through all the settings that I know of. Also, I tried turning off OpenCL with the same results.
Additional issue I found is audio level jumping up when another track comes in. I have a stereo track of music play on track 1. A little into the song I place another audio mono track on audio track 2. I pan the Stereo track to the left and Mono track to the right. When I hit play, the music is at say -12db. Once the playhead hits the mono track, the stereo track jumps up in level even though the mono track is panned to that side.
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

  • How do I create multiple midi tracks each with separate external synthesizer sound

Mac Pro OS 10.10.2, Logic Pro 10.1.1, FireFace 800 (updated), Roland XP-30 synthesizer/keyboard, Mackie mixer.
XP-30 analog output to Mackie, FireFace monitor to FireFace main inputs and FireFace out to Mackie.
What I can't get to work: Sound output for monitoring as I record on each of several midi tracks, each with access to my banks/programs.
Logic automatically set up the multi-instrument and created 16 tracks, visible in the mixer window. I have entered custom banks for the XP-30 and they are working.
Mt problem is two parts. First, my last experience was with Logic Pro 7 way back.
Problem two is that when I create midi tracks (except for the first one I created on channel 1) by control-clicking on one of the tracks in the mixer window I get no sound for monitoring. I can see the green monitor indicator for the track shows midi data incoming. I just can't hear it. It's as if there is no designated output. I have checked audio preferences and see the FireFace as input and output device. If i change the channel to channel 1, I get the sound, but then I have two tracks on channel 1 which doesn't work for designating unique sounds to each track.
I can select "All" for channel and get monitored sound on several tracks; however, they then all play the same sound, of course.
i can create midi tracks (either instrument or external) using the plus icon, but no matter how i set them up that way, they do not allow me access to my banks/programs.
In logic Pro 7 it was no problem creating multiple midi tracks, each with a different sound assigned to it. In Logic Pro 10, I am baffled regarding how to accomplish this and get it all to work as simply and nicely as I was able to with #7.
    Make sense? Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I have it set to Performance mode which according to the owners manual: "This mode makes the XP-30 function as a multitimbral sound
source, and Performance settings can be modified. If you’re
using an external MIDI device to control the XP-30 in this
mode, it will function as a multitimbral sound source."

  • Split track audio in Premiere CS5

    Greetings all,
I'm getting acclimated to working in Premiere CS5 after years of editing on Avid Media Composer and Symphony.  There are of course similarities and differences, some of which I can figure my way through and others where I'll need to ask for help.  Here's one.
Suppose I have a piece of video that was shot split-track.  On channel 1 we have the lavaliere mic worn by an interview subject.  On channel 2 we have the on-camera mic so while searching I can hear the interviewer's questions which aren't so audible in the interviewee's mic.  In the final edit I wish to discard channel 2 and center-pan channel 1.  On an Avid the audio channels are on separate tracks on the timeline - you can literally remove the channel 1 or channel 2 audio clip and then use a pan tool to take the remaining audio clip and pan it as desired (typically center-pan is what you want with an interviewee but in fact you have infinite choices between full-left and full-right).
How do we approach this issue in Premiere?  I'm sure this has been addressed before but after a lot of searching I guess I don't know the correct search terms to find it.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
    Peter

    Thanks Colin (and Jim).
It's amazing how wedded one becomes to a particular way of working, and how unusual it feels (after nearly 20 years) to start using a different platform.
For anyone who has NOT used Avid (the Meridian and pre-Meridian versions, anyway): imported materials are literally split up into components and stored/handled separately; thus, video ends up in a video file and each audio track ends up in a separate mono .wav or .aiff file, so when they're brought into a sequence they are quite literally individual and totally independent tracks.  One major disadvantage of that generation of Avid is that materials need to be imported and reprocessed into Avid media; they don't come in natively.  Newer generations of Avid (I believe) have improved this.
Premiere's handling of native clips, where stereo audio is just that instead of individual and independent tracks, is an alien concept that takes getting used to.  Modifying the clip to treat audio channels as "mono" is exactly what I was looking for.  The "fill left" and "fill right" effects, while they would work, seem a little bit more limiting.
Thanks, incidentally, for not saying "RTFM."  I have the download of CS5 and there ISN'T a FM nor can I find pdf FMs as an additional download anywhere.  So I'm stuck with tutorials (none of which seem to cover this) and the help files (which don't cover this unless you already know the name of the function).  My oh my do I miss software suites with complete read-'em-in-the-tub printed manuals!
    Thanks again,
    Pete

  • Step 1 - how does one create a video track in FCP X?

Just purchased FCP X & wow ... sparing all the rants I've been hearing, I'm sure it can do what I'm looking for, just that all the features are now hidden from view.
Step 1 - anyone know how to create additional video tracks?

Tried that & a Pandora's box of other questions opened up. Doing some research, watching videos, etc... just need to scrap most/all knowledge of previous FCP versions & start from scratch with this new interface philosophy it would seem.
One other symptom that seems disturbing: sometimes activiating a feature does not activate a feature.
Example, I wanted to silence the audio while skimming, so unchecked "audio skimming" in the view menu.
    Audio still plays while skimming.
Decided to try unchecking all four options at the bottom of the view menu (skimming, clip skimming, audio skimming, snapping).
    Nothing changed.
I can still skim clips, and audio still plays.
    Why would this happen?

  • How do I create a splitting effect when I make a scene "glitch"?

This is probably quite simple, but I am still very new to the program so I appreciate your help in advance. I am working with after effects CC on a MacBook Pro.
I am working on a music video and I can't seem to find any answer on how to create a specific "glitching" effect.
This scene from the Ring has a perfect example:
    http://youtu.be/hpb2-ZOzc_o
I want to replicate many of the effects used on Samara crawling out of the well in that video, but the MAIN one I need help with is how to make an image "split" the way hers does. It looks like copies of her are stretched out across the screen for a second, then come back into place when the glitch is over.
How do I make a person's image split like that?
I have Video Copilot's Twitch effect if that can help, but whatever works is just fine.
    Thank you so much!

Don't try and pull this off with a single layer. Break down the shot and make each element a separate layer then composite them. At this point how many layers do you see:
I see the background shot, the fill for the TV and a rotoed shot of the girl climbing out of the TV. None of it is particularly difficult but it is impossible without layers.
There are some Bad TV presets that will get you started with the tv distortion. Again, it's just a matter of layers and not necessarily a single plug-in. Noise, distortion, blend modes, color, and other effects combined to create the effect.

  • Split Track Audio

Ever need to provide the client (networks most often) with a split track master of your show...with Stereo mix on Ch1 and Ch2, and Music and Effects on Ch 3 and Ch 4? Well, here is how you do that:
    http://proapptips.com/tips/article.php?story=20060721234257115
This really only works if you have a capture card. This will not work over firewire.
    Shane

Ah...thanks Jerry. I forgot about that. Never tried it because of the yuckiness. If you care to share how to do that (iffin you know) I will add that to the tip.
You know, I got my monitor...but the HD/SDI card wasnt' installed, and it required that the motherboard be replaced with the one supplied. So I took it to Sony and they installed it for free. Woo! But then I bring it home and connect it to my Decklink HD, and can only get an SD signal out of the card. So I move the card to the other slot and turn on the monitor and...and...nothing. No power. So, back to the shop it goes.
Man I have bad luck with equiment.

  • How do I create a split screen on a motion clip in Photoshop CS6?

I have a project due soon and the last requirement is to "create a split screen on a motion clip". Any ideas? Thanks!

In the time line panel you will either need to split the video by moving the playhead to the location then click the split button. Or you can add another video if you want two different video's playing.
Because one video is on top of the other you need to scale both videos so they fit the screen. Select one video the press ctrl-t on windows or cmd-t on mac to enter transforms mode. Click and drag the corner to scale the video. Then repeat for the other video. You will also have to move the video's into place.
When satisfied click enter or return on keyboard.
Ex. For standard video the document should be (in the USA) 640x480 pixels. (I believe Adobe states it should be 720x480 for video, but this is only an example)
So, to place two video's side by side each video would have to be divided by 2 for the width. 320x480
When you move the video's they should snap into place.
For two video's that stack, the height would be divided by two - 640x240

  • How do I create an xControl with multiple inputs and outputs?

    Hello,
i am trying to write a new Xcontrol Element. In the data model I can create data types using the cluster to create compound types, eg an int and an int array. But how do I create an xcontrol which has multiple data inputs and outputs?
    Kind Regards

    Limping_Twerp wrote:
Alright: I see: An xcontrol is either an input OR an output. How do I achieve an output? Secondly: So you are saying the only Elements that can have multiple inputs and outputs are VIs?
Can you take a few steps back and explain what you are actually trying to do. SubVIs and Xcontrols have nothing in common and it is not clear why you even try to compare them side by side (e.g. in terms of the number of connectors).
Your questions about input or output tell us that you seems to have some misconceptions about xcontrols. Xcontrols are like regular controls, except they have some built-in intelligence that you can program. Most front panel object can be either controls or indicators and the same is true for Xcontrol. You create an Xcontrol, and after placing it on the front panel you can decide if it should be a control (where the code reads the value) or an indicator (were the code writes values to it). When you define the xcontrol facade, you also need to program how the visuals change if it is changed from control to indicator or vice versa.
As a first step, you should opend the example finder and look at some xcontrol examples.
Again, what are you actually trying to do?

  • How to view score of one track while recording another.

I want to record audio on one track. I want to read the notes and chords from another track while recording. ( I want to use the previously recorded track only for providing me with the score ) I would very much prefer to have Logic chase the score so that I know where I am in the arrangement while recording.
I am aware I can print out the score as a a pdf file and view that, and its not so bad, however I would prefer Logic to follow along the score and let the playhead indicate the location.
I can do this when not recording. I can view the previous track just before I go into recording, but when I go into recording, the score switches to showing currently track being recorded ( which is empty)

    Hi there,
Floating Windows all but disappeared with Logic 8 and many of us mourn their passing. Although some windows are, by default, floating (eg transport), the only one that you can choose to make float nowadays is the Environment, useful if you're setting up faders or some other real-time control.

  • Splitting tracks from recorded minidisc?

I have just recorded a minidisc though GB and exported to itunes. Problem is in itunes it shows as one continuous track of 38minutes and not 12 tracks as the album should be, how can i split these into tracks so it shows as 12 seperate tracks in itunes??

GB was written to create single songs, while you can use it for what you want, it's not the best tool, an Audio Editor is much better suited:
    http://thehangtime.com/gb/gbfaq2.html#audioeditors
If you're set on using GB then you can use the Cycle Region function to isolate each part of the project that is a song and export.
