How do I disable Restore Previous Session?

Hello, my parents just bought a new computer and I am helping them to set it up. Right now their biggest concern is that when Firefox closes and is reopened, the session from last time is automatically restored. They are worried about privacy concerns in case they're logged in shopping or on their email.
I am using Windows 8.1 and Firefox 33.0.2
Firefox is currently set in the options to "Show my homepage" when it starts. I found this link

browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash. in the config files to false, but I've still had no luck. A search shows that I do not have a "user.js" file in the Firefox profile that might be causing the problem, so that solution isn't working for me.
I also used this page http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.sessionstore.enabled to check my "browser.startup.page" and it is currently set to 1 "Show my Homepage."
I'm out of ideas and would appreciate any help anyone could offer.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file.

why does RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION not work after a few sessions?
I use Firefox twice per day and each time I boot up my PC (WIndows 7), it prompts me to restore my previous session. I realised after a few of these boot-up sessions, it DOES NOT allow me to restore my previous session. Going to History, the tab "restore previous session" is unclickable too.
How does one RETAIN restore previous session PERMANENTLY? I'm using Firefox 24.0

How do I disable the bleeping RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION box

Every time I open Firefox, the RESTORE PREVIOUS SESSION box appears - even if there has been no crash. I've tried the about:config fix and it made absolutely no difference. Please tell me how to get rid of this feature without having to delete all my browsing history every time I turn off my computer.

If you want to completley disable session restore about:config
set browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo and browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo to 0
Then Options > General > When Firefox Starts select home or blank tab.
Set browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to false to stop it restoring after a crash.

How can I disable "restore session" on my homepage so no one sees where I have been?

I downloaded the latest version of Firefox. Now every time I log on the homepage has a "restore previous session" button. It takes me to the last place I was when I signed off. This is counter to me clearing my history. Why bother offering to clear history when you can push a button and be back where you were. Is there anyway to disable that feature?

Did you have an iCloud account set up on it? If so, did you enable the "find my iPod" switch under the account settings?
If not, there is nothing you can do remotely to it.
If you did, then log in to your iCloud account in a web browser and see if it shows up (it will have to be on, and it will have to be connected to a wifi network for find my iPod to be able to do anything).
You cannot copy anything remotely but you can wipe the device if you want to be sure nothing is taken from it. That action will also cause it to disappear from find my iPod (as your iCloud account will be wiped from it too).
If it was not already passcode locked, you should proceed as if someone already has it and already has had access to your content - i.e. change passwords to accounts now.

I really like the "restore previous session" window that shows up sometimes when firefox crashes, being able to pick and choose which tabs and windows to reopen. My question is are there any add-ons or ways of making it so this happens every time I have to reopen firefox? Right now it only does it occasionally, other times it automatically reopens every tab loading them as I go which makes the process of finding which windows I want and getting back up to speed much lengthier. This is quite an annoyance because you'd think after force quiting firefox would default to this every time, but usually it reopens every tab and I have to try and purposely crash the browser hoping I'll get the "restore previous session" window. Yes, you can. Firefox will try to automatically restore once. If that fails, then it gives you the screen to choose. To prevent automatic restoration and always go straight to that windows/tabs list, change a setting here:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box in that tab, type or paste '''sessions''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' and change the 1 to a 0 (a zero) and OK that.
(4) You can close this tab now.
Hopefully you won't need to test it any time soon -- if you are crashing a lot, we should try to figure out how to stop that.

This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
# If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
# Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
# Select Tab Groups.
# Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.

I just opened a link in an email message. It, in turn opened another. I suspected a virus, and did a virus scan. Now when I try to re-open my computer's email program it asks me to create a new account with a new password. I suspect all my email files are lost. And when I open Firefox it asks if I want to "restore previous session", but that one could be the viral link. How do I delete the "restore... message?

Set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes] to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.
That will allow you to deselect the tab(s) that you do not want to reopen, but will allow to reopen other tabs.

There is No option to restore previous session when I go into History. There is No Recent history in the History. It will show my history if I click on show History, but it won't restore it!

Uncheck: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
Uncheck: [ ] "Clear history when Firefox closes"
check everything else and in Accept third-party cookies, set Keep until: they expire

1st how do I get the history menu to have functioning "Restore previous session" and "Recently Closed Tabs" and "Recently Closed Windows" options? They are not usually in black but gray, not useable.

I have a desktop at work, and a desktop and laptop at home and just recently the "restore previous session" button that comes up when I use the desktop icon to start a Firefox Web browser session does not work. How can I restore previous session while fixing Bookmarks and History will not be functional...error?

I was working with two windows and 8-10 tabs in each window when my Firefox became unresponsive, and I received a string of JavaScript error prompts when I attempted any activity in the browser (such as scrolling). After about an hour of being unable to interact with Firefox at all, I Force Quit (on a Mac) the application.
When I opened Firefox again, it was taking a very long time to boot, and the process was locking up my computer, but eventually, I did receive a Restore Previous Session option. I tried restoring, but one tab in each window would stick and fail to load, causing the browser to freeze up yet again (one of the tabs was a Google search result page, which is completely benign). I had to Force Quit *again* and then a couple more times as I kept encountering the same issue.
Finally, I decided to restart my computer. I ran into the same problem. Then, I restarted again. Once more, the same problem. I've followed step 1, which didn't work. I haven't proceeded to step 2, because I know I will definitely lose my previous session along with all recent history. Before I continue to step 2, is there any way that I can grab the URLs that were in my previous session and stash them somewhere to manually restore after fixing the error?

I actually closed out several tabs when attempting to reopen my session, just trying to get things up and running again (and Save All Tabs) before I ran into the database error. I never got the opportunity to save my tabs.
