NullPointerException creating TopLink objects

Hello,
I'm developing an application with JDeveloper 10g, which uses an Oracle 8.1 database. At the beginning I try to create the Data Model using TopLink. I select two tables that I want to be represented as TopLink objects. But just after I click "Finish", an exception is raised :
java.lang.NullPointerException
     at oracle.jdeveloper.offlinedb.handler.ImportHandler.copySchemaObject(ImportHandler.java:902)
     at oracle.jdeveloper.offlinedb.handler.AbstractTransferHandler.copyObjectsForTransfer(AbstractTransferHandler.java:936)

     at oracle.ide.dialogs.ProgressBar.run(ProgressBar.java:551)
     at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
Where does it come from? I know my tables are correct, because I can do queries using both of them...
Thanks

Well it's fixed now, and I don't now how =)

  • Create toplink ofline db objects fails over jdbc-odbc bridge to MSAccess db

    Hi, using JDev 10.1.3.0.4 in an EJB , Toplink, JSF application I cannot create Toplink Objects from tables , I get every time a null pointer exception in the last step when I click on the Finalize button.
    I have seen other threads the recomend to rebuild the Data Model Project using the Run Menu, that didnt work, Checking unchecking Tools/Preference/Show Compile Progress , didnt help neither.
    If the problem is that toplink is incompatible with the jdb-odbc bridge, then where I can get/download a jdbc ms access cappable driver that toplink will work with?
    Thanks,
    Omar

    Look under http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/10.1.3.1/install.html#supported_db to check whether your database is supported (see Offline Database Support column in the table).
    Also you can do the following to check whether importing offline tables is causing an issue. See " Importing Tables from a Database Connection" under http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/dbdevelopment/obe_%20dbasedevmt.htm
    Hope this helps.

    I have tried this out in the EA release of JDev, and have reproduced the problem you reported. However, trying out the latest development build, the problem does not occur, so this bug has been fixed. You'll pick up this fix when we next release the software on OTN.

  • JSF/ADF/Toplink object from multiple schemas

    We are considering starting a new project using JSF/ADF/Toplink using a already existent database.
    How is it possible to create toplink object from tables when tables belongs to different schemas?
    I think there must be a way to do this and in jdeveloper forum suggested me to post the question here.
    Thank you very much.
    Michele

    Michele,
    When you are in the wizard where it lets you select the tables you can select one schema and query and select your tables. Then you can switch schemas and query and select additional tables.
    When using TopLink this way you will most likely need the SQL generated qith schema qualified tables. To do this go to the map (under TopLink node) and edit its defaults tab and check the option 'Qualify Table Names with Schema Name".

  • Java.lang.NullPointerException errors when creating an object in Int.Build.

    We are on XI 7.0 AIX 64bit
    When we try to create an object in Integration Builder we get following errors:
    Internal Problem Occured (Internal Problem)
    java.lang.NullPointerException
    I have seen similar topics reported. They pointed to problems with SDK 1.4.2_10
    We have downgraded our Java 64 on AIX from SR6 back to SR5. So I guess we are back on SDK 1.4.2_2 (in AIX versions are slightly different and the version of SDK is shown as 1.4.2.75 as oposed to previous 1.4.2.100)
    Unfortunately downgrade of JAVA did not fix our problem. Did anyone managed to fix this? This is pretty much stopping us from doing anything on XI:(
    Here is the detailed log we are getting:

    Hi Robert,
    For the same issue I follwed as below.Hope to sort out this problem.
    1)check after installing J2sdk1.4.2.13(you are with 1.42.75(might be some problem with upgrade version.I am not sure)
    2)Restart the J2EE engine.
    3)check the post installation steps again.
    Atlast, I solved this problem after Re-doing the post installation steps and above 2 process. I am not sure from which process it was resolved.

    Could you be more specific on your project, any other toplink objects that might be manipulating the same data?

  • Session Facade design and TopLink objects

    Hi, we are just about to start using Toplink as our ORM tool. Ideally we want to wrap all business logic behind stateless session bean facades. So instead of BMP entity beans we are thinking of encapsulating the relevant Toplink objects in each facade and querying, updating that object when the session facade bean is instantiated.
    We are using Weblogic 70. Example code:
    e.g. MySessionBean implements sessionbean...
         MyTopLinkObject myObject = null;
         public void populateObject(String myID) throws java.rmi.RemoteException {
              try {
                   MyTopLinkObject myObject = new MyTopLinkObject(myID);
              catch (Exception e) {
         public void setMyTopLinkObjectsName(String name) {
         //persist this change via the toplink object...
         myObject.setName(name);
    Then in MyTopLinkObject:
    public class MyTopLinkObject {
         private String myID;
         private String myName;
    public MyTopLinkObject(String myID) {
              build(myID);
    public void build(String myID) {
              //read TOPLINK cache and populate this MyTopLinkObject name etc
    public void setName(String myName) {
         //persist this change...
         this.myName = myName;
    // more gets sets
    I will then want to update MyTopLinkObject data in for example in calling. MySessionBean.setMyTopLinkObjectsName("my name") from the remote interface on the client.
    So what I want to know is how do I can I do this efficiently. I'm too too versant with TopLink caches etc. For example to read the cache do I have to pass thru a TopLink client/server Session to each Session Facade bean so the cache is available for that read, update etc?
    Any other tips is using this design would be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    J

    Don, thanks for ur advice yet again.
    I think now I am getting a better grasp of how TopLink should be used. However there is very little doco out there in terms of using TOPLInk in as EJB session facade scenario.
    After your advice my thoughts are to provide something like the TOPLInkFactory object as you say which will encapsulate the ServerSession TOPLink API and provide more fine grain access to the TOPLInk API. e.g. instead of having to create a ClientSession in each client call b4 getting a UnitOfWOrk, this factory class would provide a method to do this directly:
    public final class TOPLinkFactory {
         private static ServerSession serverSession = null;
         private static final String TOPLINK_CONFIG_FILE = "C:\\test.xml";
         private static final String TOPLINK_SESSION = "toplink";
         public TOPLinkFactory() throws Exception {
              super();
         private static ServerSession createServerSession(ClassLoader cl) throws Exception {
              try {
              Project builderProject = XMLProjectReader.read(TOPLINK_CONFIG_FILE, cl);
         serverSession = (ServerSession)builderProject.createServerSession();
              serverSession.login();
                   return serverSession;
              catch (Exception e) {
              return null;
         public static UnitOfWork getUnitOfWork(ClassLoader cl) {
              try {
                   return createClientSession(cl).acquireUnitOfWork();
         public static ClientSession createClientSession(ClassLoader cl) throws Exception {
              try {
                   if (serverSession == null) {
    serverSession = createServerSession(cl);
    ServerSession s = (ServerSession)SessionManager.getManager().getSession(TOPLINK_SESSION, cl);
                   return serverSession.acquireClientSession();
              catch (Exception e) {
              return null;
    Then in my Session EJBs I could write a method like this where Thing is a TOPLInk object mapped to the thing table:
         public boolean setThingStatus(String thingID) {
    ExpressionBuilder builder = new ExpressionBuilder();
    Expression expression = builder.get("THING_ID").equal( Integer.parseInt(thingID));
    ClientSession s = TOPLinkFactory.createClientSession(this.getClass().getClassLoader());
    Thing thing = (Thing) s.readObject(Thing.class, expression);
    UnitOfWork uow = TOPLinkFactory.getUnitOfWork(this.getClass().getClassLoader());
    Thing thingClone = (Thing)uow.registerObject(thing);
    thingClone.setStatus("WITH JASON");
    TOPLinkFactory.commitAndReleaseUnitOfWork(uow);
    return true;
    Now if the above looks OK and there are no Thread/Session issues that you could make me aware of (or perhaps you would encourage using a full Singleton pattern instead).
    I have another question in relation to ClassLoaders. In this architecture I have been passing around the ClassLoader (as above) to the TOPLInkFactory methods to create the unit of works etc... Is this necessary? Or could I avoid it?
    Also I think some people in my team are thinking its a good idea for all TOPLink business objects to extend an abstract base class that contains this behaviour and provides these TOPLinkFactory methods. I no expert on TOPLInk but I would have thought this code should not be coupled with the TOPLink business objects for reasons such as:
    1) Why should a TOPLink Person object (attributes name, age etc) e.g. extend a class with TOPLink API methods and attributes - I just don't see the logic there as I thought TOPLink was to be non-intrusive. For example a Person object should not encapsulate a ServerSession object and nor does it need to. To this end they are then coupled and if for example we wanted to move these Person objects to work with another persistence framework then they would have to be rewritten to remove all TOPLInk attribute/method references
    2) I would have thought accessing the TOPLInk API is only necessary when the client code needs to invoke calls to the database for reads and updates. i.e. that's where you start getting your sessions, unit of works etc. Like in the setThingStatus Session EJB method (i.e. the client code) above and NOT in your business methods of for example the TOPLink Person object?
    Please tell me if I am mistaken!
    If you could clear some of this up it would be great.
    Regards,
    Jason

  • Oracle TopLink Object-to-XML - issue JAXBException: Provider not found...

    Env:
    OS:XP
    Java dev env: JDev 10.1.2 production
    Toplink Workbench - 10g Developer Preview 3 (10.1.3.0) build 041116
    I am attempting to use the toplink object to xml functionality through carefully following the tutorial titled Oracle TopLink Object-to-XML on OTN (link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/preview/10.1.3dp3/howto/ox/index.htm)
    The first 11 steps are nice and clear and very easy to follow. However, when I hit 12 I run into problems. I believe I have done all I am required to do.
    My demo test code falls over on the attempting to create the JAXB context:
    JAXBContext jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance("examples.ox.model");
    The exception I get is:
    javax.xml.bind.JAXBException: Provider oracle.toplink.ox.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory not found
    - with linked exception:
    [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.toplink.ox.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory ]
    The code is capable of loading the jaxb.properties file, and has toplink.jar in the classpath. I am able to create a is located JAXBContextFactory prior to calling the new instance logic, illustrating that the class is in the classpath.
    Using google I have seen it mentioned that the newInstance call could be making use of a different JVM to the Application (https://jaxb.dev.java.net/faq/#classloader) hence may not be able to pick up the JAXBContextFactory class. I have attempted to follow their advice of passing in a class loader - but this makes no difference.
    I.E. JAXBContext jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance("examples.ox.model", this.getClass().getClassLoader());
    Does anyone recognise this issue and have a solution.
    Here is my code:
    try
    File file = new File("D:\\Toplink\\demo\\Customer-data.xml");
    JAXBContext jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance("examples.ox.model);
    Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller();
    Customer customer = (Customer) unmarshaller.unmarshal(file);
    System.out.println(" customer.getFirstName() : "+customer.getFirstName());
    catch(Exception e)
    System.out.println("Error: "+ e.toString());
    As mentioned earlier it falls over on JAXBContext.newInstance("examples.ox.model);
    cheers
    Nick

    Hi Blaise,
    thanks for your response.
    My session.xml file is located:
    D:\Toplink\demo\classes\session.xml
    And contains:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>

    <login xsi:type="xml-login"/>
    </session>
    </toplink-sessions>
    My classpath references only jars downloaded with the links on the How To tutorial titled Oracle TopLink Object-to-XML on OTN (link: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/preview/10.1.3dp3/howto/ox/index.htm)
    This is the JDev output indicating the classpath and error:

  • Error while creating info object

    error while creating info object a character
    Info object may be a maximum of  000060 digits...... what would be the error?
    Thanks ALL

    Hi,
    The maximum length supported by one CHAR type infoobject is 60. Check whether you have assigned more.
    If you have to load more length ( more than 60) split the total thing into different infoobjects. Create different infoobjects and split the total thing into them - like 1st 60 char in 1st infoobject, char 61-120 in 2nd infoobject and so on. Then you can again concatenate them.
    Thanks,
    Indrashis

  • What is the diffrence between extends and creating new object?

    HI ALL,
    what is the diffrence between extends and creating new object?
    meaning
    class base{
    class derived extends base{
    class base{
    class derived {
    derived(){
    base var = new base();
    can u people tell me diffence from the above examples.
    THANKS.
    ANANDA

    When you create a new object you have to supply the class to which that
    object belongs. A class can extend from another class. If it does so
    explicitly you can define the 'parent' class from which the class extends.
    If you don't explicitly mention anything, the class will implicitly extend
    from the absolute base class named 'Object'.
    Your example is a bit convoluted: when you create a Derived object,
    its constructor creates another object, i.e. an object from the class from
    which the Derived class extends.
    Extending from a class and creating an object don't have much in common.
    kind regards,
    Jos

    drangineni, assuming you know the service requestid or externalId of the
    Sr you are dealin gwith you would first set that value.
    ServiceRequest1[] objSRList =new ServiceRequest1[1];
    objSRList[0] = new ServiceRequest1();
    objSRList[0].ServiceRequestId = <YourSRId>;
    Then you create an array of activities and initialize the first one:
    objSRList[0].ListOfActivity = new Activity[1];
    objSRList[0].ListOfActivity[0] = new Activity();
    Now set the data fields
    objSRList[0].ListOfActivity[0].Subject ="My Subject";
    objSRList[0].ListOfActivity[0].Description ="My Description";
    objSRList[0].ListOfActivity[0].Display = "Task"; //valid values are either
    "Task" or "Appointment"
    Then call the ServiceREquestInsertOrUpdate method on the ServiceRequest
    WebService and pass in the above variable.

    Ah yes, I forgot you also need to specify a unquie Id for the activity.
    It's kinda strange.
    Try adding this:
    ServiceRequest[0].ListOfActivity[ActivityLength].ActivityId = "DummyId";
    //OD will overwrite this with a real Id
    Or if you have a unquie ID for your Activities you can use:
    ServiceRequest[0].ListOfActivity[ActivityLength].ExternalSystemId = <Your
    Unique Value>;
    Hope that helps,

    Hi all,
    I have a similar problem, but mine is returning a message that field
    "Display" is required. Looking at this post and the documentation it is
    obvious that Display is a required field, but my WSDL did not include a
    field called "Display", so my proxy did not generate one.
    I tried adding a field called Display to the WSDL and the proxy class, but
    I get a different error... I figure I maybe cannot add it manually like
    that - but I think the bigger problem is it is not part of the WSDL that
    Siebel OD generates for me in my admin account.
    On top of that Display is not shown in the list of fields for Activity
    through the admin interface.. is it possible my account is bugged? Am I
    missing something simple here? BigSlick, I see you mention a .Display in
    your code sample so I thought you might understand what is wrong. Here is
    my code (I am trying to add a activity to a lead).
    Thanks for any insight into this!
    private void InsertLeadActivity(Session session, NameValueCollection data,
    string leadID)
    try
    if (blnDebug)
    Response.Write("Setting up Activity<br>";
    // instantiate the proxy service
    Activity_Service.Activity activityProxy = new Activity_Service.Activity();
    // set up the target URL
    activityProxy.Url = session.GetURL();
    activityProxy.CookieContainer = session.GetCookieContainer();
    // set up input argument
    ActivityNWS_Activity_Insert_Input input = new
    ActivityNWS_Activity_Insert_Input();
    input.ListOfActivity = new Activity1[1];
    input.ListOfActivity[0] = new Activity1();
    if (blnDebug)
    Response.Write("Getting Data<br>";
    // dg note: name value
    // input.ListOfActivity[0].MrMrs = data["MrMrs"];
    input.ListOfActivity[0].LeadId = leadID.ToString();
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Description = DataToString(data);
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Subject = "Website Submission Activity";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Priority = "3-Low";
    //input.ListOfActivity[0].DueDate =
    DateTime.Now.AddDays(7).ToShortDateString();
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Owner = this.defaultLeadOwner;
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Type = "Call";
    //input.ListOfActivity[0].Display = "Task";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].ActivityId = "DummyId";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].ExternalSystemId = "web";
    activityProxy.Activity_Insert(input);
    catch (Exception exInsertActivity1)
    if (blnDebug)
    Response.Write("<br>Error inserting activity.<br><br>" +
    exInsertActivity1.ToString() + "<br>";

    Figured it out.. the field "Display" is also known as "Activity"........
    Here are some notes for other people.. good luck and feel free to write me
    at raskawa-at-gmail-com if you want a code sample.
    Some unpublished nice to knows for Siebel On Demand Activities....
    In summary:
    - .Activity is also known as Display in documentation and on the error
    messages coming back from the WS. Also, it appears based on these boards
    some people actually have a .Display field. Maybe different accounts
    generate different WSDL's.... buggy.
    - If a error message is thrown saying "Description is required" it really
    means "Subject is required" (make sure .Subject has a value)
    - If a error message is thrown complaining that ActionType is not right..
    that is really .Type.. make sure it's lookup value is valid for the
    dropdown values in your CRM OD system.
    My code/values that worked..
    input.ListOfActivity[0].LeadId = leadID.ToString();
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Description = DataToString(data);
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Subject = "Website Submission Activity";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Priority = "3-Low";
    //input.ListOfActivity[0].DueDate =
    DateTime.Now.AddDays(7).ToShortDateString();
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Owner = this.defaultLeadOwner;
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Type = "Call";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].ActivityId = "DummyId";
    input.ListOfActivity[0].ExternalSystemId = "web";
    //input.ListOfActivity[0].Display = "Task"; //doesn't work
    input.ListOfActivity[0].Activity = "Task"; //does work.

    a Activity to a Lead. Via the Lead object (by getting a ListOfActivities)
    OR by creating a Activity directly and just adding your "LeadID" to it (or
    you can also add a "ContactID" to relate the activity to a Contact.)
    Feel free to email me for a code example (raskawa....at....gmail)

    Hi Stephane,
    You can definitely read the categories using Tables in CRM. The logic is a bit complicated though.
    Use the following steps to retrieve Categories using Std. CRM Tables:
    1. Pass transaction GUID in field GUID of table CRMV_REPORT_SUBJ and get KATALOGART, CODEGRUPPE and CODE field values in lv_catalog, lv_codegrp and lv_code.
    2. Now you need to concatenate these 3 fields values carefully like this:
    CONCATENATE lv_catelog lv_codegrp '    ' lv_code into lv_category1.
    Remember there are 4 spaces between lv_codegrp and lv_code.
    3. Now pass this lv_category1 in field OBJEXT in table CRMC_ERMS_CAT_OK and get OBJGUID in field lv_objguid.
    4. Pass this lv_objguid in field OBJ_GUID and LNK_TYPE = 'IS_CODE' in table CRMC_ERMS_CAT_LN and get value of CAT_GUID in lv_cat_guid.
    5. Pass this lv_cat_guid in field CAT_GUID in table CRMC_ERMS_CAT_CA and get value of CAT_ID in field lv_cat_text.
    Remember this lv_cat_text is the text value of your last level of category of transaction.
    6. To get its upper cateogry level value, simply use table CRMC_ERMS_CAT_HI and get parent guid value and pass this as CAT_GUID again in table CRMC_ERMS_CAT_CA to get its text.
    Alternatively, you can also use class method cl_crm_ml_category_util=>get_parse_all to get all levels of categories.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks
    Vishal

  • When I try to open an embedded PDF file I get an error "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.exe.

    When I try to open an embedded PDF file (Word doc) I get an error "The program used to create this object is AcroExch.exe. That program is either not installed on your computer, or is corrupt..."  I've tried  about everything from unchecking
    protected mode at startup to removing & reinstalling Adobe.  Nothing seems to fix this issue.  Any other ideas?
    This is happening on Adobe reader 9, 10 & 11 with MS Word 2010 & 2013.  I've uninstalled, cleaned & reinstalled Reader 9, 10 & 11, as well as Acrobat 10 Pro & 11 Standard.  Removed "Protected mode at startup, and changed
    the default program for viewing from reader to Acrobat.  This will not go away.  It is affecting production at our company.

    " Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder" . i can't find open containing folder in profile directory. it does give me the option to open the places.sqlite file using graphic converter. when i try that, graphic converter gives me a window saying that it can't be opened because it is corrupted or is not a file type supported by graphic converter.
    i appreciate your help with a workaround to get the old bookmarks. that works. however, the problem has morphed from that concern to why adobe reader [the default app.] won't open firefox .sqlite files. is the problem in adobe reader or firefox? also, how can i tell if the places.sqlite file is corrupt?
    i'm getting in over my head here and do appreciate your help.

  • How to create multiple objects within a class

    I have a item.lvclass which has an item.ctl (contains a cluster of class private data).  I need to add another object (item2.ctl) within that same class so that I can reuse the code for that class.
    So how do you create additional objects within the same class?

    Well... right now...  I've cornered myself going down this path:  http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/LVOOP-Interfaces/idc-p/1314637#M8918
    Seems like the solution in the idea was not implemented yet....
    Okay.  I will try to describe the situation differently...
    Let's say I have a Car.lvclass
    I want to have two objects:  sedan & roadster
    both have similar properties, but also have different properties:
    4 doors vs 2 doors
    hardtop vs convertible
    silver vs white (color)
    I want the two objects to be of the same class so that they can share the same private and public VI's.  As a matter of fact, I want to have both objects in the VI's within the Car.lvclass.
